BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas] - Lillie B. Karl, 72, of Bay City, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003.

She was born July 17, 1930, in Glen Flora, to the late Ed Calvin and Leva Ann Cromeans Morris.

Survivors: daughter, Charlotte Hines of Sweeny; son, Michael Karl of Bay City; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.

Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck. Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, 979-245-4613.

Thomas Jeanne Poole Keen

BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas] - Thomas Jeanne Poole Keen, a lifetime resident of Bay City, died Oct. 20, 2007 in Katy. She was born Feb. 17, 1916 to Thomas Jefferson Poole Jr. and Jessie Logan Poole.

Mrs. Keen is survived by her daughter, Patricia Anne Keen; her cherished granddaughter, Anna Logan Keen; her son, Patrick Logan Keen; niece, Deborah Davis Brand; and nephews, Robert M. Davant Jr. and Michael L. Davis.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jeanne Keen; her husband, George Richard Keen Jr.; her twin sister, Jessie Poole Davis, and her elder sisters, Fannie Louise Poole Davant and Beatrice Poole Schultz.

The family would like to thank the caregivers for the love and devotion extended over the last several years: Debra McAdams, Denise Meyers, Ester Williams, Katarsha Tillman, and Sherel Allen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bay City Public Library Association, The Matagorda County Museum, or the charity of choice.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Robert M. Davant Jr. Davant Jr, Michael L. Davis, Charles B. Baker, Kenneth Brand, Gary D. Green, Allen Green, and George R. Harrison.

 Funeral Services for Mary Jeanne Keen, 32, of Bay City, were held at 4 pm today at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating.  Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Keen was born June 5, 1952, in Dublin, Ireland and died at 11 am Oct. 19 at Matagorda General Hospital.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. George R. Keen Jr. of Bay City; a sister, Patricia Anne Keen of San Antonio; and a brother, Patrick Logan Keen of Hong Kong.

Pallbearers include Robert M. Davant, Jr., Michael Logan Davis, Allen Green, Gardy D. Green, Kenneth W. Brand and Don Haley. Arrangements are by Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Rubena Keen
(August 10, 1915 - January 4, 2008)

Rubena “Sugie” Keen, 92, of Bay City passed away January 4, 2008. She was born August 10, 1915 in Jacksboro, Texas to the late William and Texie Worthington Nelson. She and her late husband W. Q. Keen owned and operated Bay Drug Store in Bay City from 1946 until 1975. She loved her family and friends, enjoyed traveling, cooking and playing golf and took great pride in her dress and appearance.

Survivors include daughter Carolyn Sue Burford & husband Dick of Van Vleck; son Nelson Keen & wife Mona of Bay City; grandchildren Bret & Amy Burford, Blaire Popek, Troy & Tina Keen, Jennifer & Shane Smith and Lisa & Shannon Smith; great grandchildren Garner & Travis Burford, Maegan & Leighton Keen, Amber & Lacy Smith, and Brooke & Dylan Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband W. Q. Keen and a great grandson, Logan Smith.

The family will receive visitors from 6 PM to 8 PM Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Harrison officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date.

William Quitman “W. Q.” Keen

Funeral Services for William Quitman “W. Q.” Keen, 81 of Bay City are scheduled for 2 pm Sunday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Dugger officiating.  Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.  Mr. Keen was born Dec. 5, 1906, in Suntag, Miss., and died Jan. 8, 1988, at his home.

He was a long-time owner of Bay Drug Company and was a retired pharmacist. He was a former member of the Bay City Chamber of Commerce, president of the Bay City County Club, chairman of the House Committee and the Greens Committee of the Men’s Golf Association.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bay City.

Survivors include his wife, Rubena Nelson Keen of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Sue and Dick Burford; a son and daughter-in-law, W. Nelson and Mona Keen; five grandchildren, Rubena Blaire Burford, Jennifer Marie Keen and Lisa LeAnne Keen, all of Bay City, Bret Garner Burford of Corpus Christi and Nelson Troy Keen of Austin; four sisters, Maggie Tolar, Grace Berry, Lillie Errington and Elizabeth Polk, all of Mississippi. Contribution may be made to the charity of choice.  Arrangements are by Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Weida Kennon, 79, of Bay City will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Mrs. Kennon passed away Saturday, April 22, 2000 at Matagorda General Hospital. She was born April 16, 1921 in Locker, San Saba County, Texas to Louis Bearon Skelton and Myrtie Taylor Skelton.

She was a resident of Bay City since 1950 and a member of the Baptist Church.

She is survived by: her sisters, Nelda Richmond of Victoria and Novella Crain of Bay City; her brothers,
L. B. "Buck" Skelton, Jr. of Alvin and Emmitt Skelton of Wellington, Texas.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Harold Kennon; her parents, Louis B. and Myrtie Skelton; and by a brother, J. E. Skelton.

Pallbearers will include: Jackie D. Skelton, Rickie L. Skelton, Farris, Randy, Gary and Joe Mack Crain.

Honorary Pallbearers will include: Scott, Cory and Heath Crain, Jamie O'Neal, T. G. Osina, Donald and Chad Skelton, and David Krenek.

Pleasie John “PJ” Kinard

Funeral services for Pleasie John “PJ” Kinard, 86, of Bay City were scheduled for 2 pm today at First Presbyterian Church in Bay City with Rev. David Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.  Mr. Kinard was born March 8, 1904 to Isaac W. and Etta Jones Kinard in Mangum, Okla., and died 2:32 am Aug. 11, 1990, at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a former resident of Oklahoma.  A resident of Bay City for 56 years, he was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bay City.

He is survived by his wife, Nola Mabel Harris Kinard of Bay City; a daughter, Shirley Kaye Franklin of Bay City; five sisters, Vietta Ratcliff of Midland, Arlene Smitherman of Angleton, Ruth Tomlinson of Clute, Elva Lee Darby of Baytown and Jessie Smitherman of Franklin; three brothers, Jewel Kinard of Sebastapol, Calif., Cecil Kinard of El Campo and Truett Kinard of Warren; grandson, Jeffrey Layton Franklin of Bay City, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers are Johnny Fausto, W. B. Morrow, James Mote, Jo Frank Griffith, Al Wind and Virgil Fetters.  Honorary pallbearers are the domino players and staff of the Matagorda County Farmer’s Co-op and members of the Pleasant Wade Jones Family.

Nola Mabel Harris Kinard

Nola Mabel Harris Kinard, 92, of Bay City died Nov. 16, 2001 at Matagorda General Hospital.

She was born Aug. 6, 1909 in Anadarko, Okla. to the late James Layton and Effie May Long Harris.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a resident of Bay City since 1935.

Kovar died April 8, 1983 at her resident.

Kovar was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and resident of Bay City for 36 years.
