Funeral services for Edward Lee Boring, 44, were scheduled for 3 pm today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. W. D. Baker officiating.  Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mr. Boring was born Dec. 3, 1942, in Madisonville, Texas, to Joseph Fermon Lee and Lena Lorraine Gray Boring and died Sept. 24, 1987, at Herman Hospital, Houston.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Boring of Houston; mother, Lorraine Boring of Bay City; stepdaughter, Jocelyn Heacock of Houston; two sisters, Frances Johnson of Houston and Kay Smith of Bay City, a brother, James Boring of Houston; four nephews and three nieces.

Pallbearers include James Barlow, Richard Bock, Bill Winans, George Cabeen, Charles Hahn and Gary Stell.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Fermon Lee Boring, in 1978 and a sister, Virginia Darnell, in 1975.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Tessa Nicole Chancey, 18 days old, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2002 in Galveston, Texas. She was born March 3, 2002 in Galveston to Robert Steven Chancey and Rachel Renee Bliznak Chancey.

She is survived by: parents, Robert and Rachel Chancey of Sargent; brothers, Ryan Austin Chancey and Timothy Alan Chancey of Sargent; maternal grandparents, Rod and Daphne Carlsen of Sargent; paternal grandparents, Robert and Annette Chancey of Sweeny. She was preceded in death by her sister, Whitney Nicole Chancey.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck with the Rev. Mike Hanks officiating.

Betty Parks Coney, 69, of Bay City passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Matagorda General Hospital.

Betty was born on September 4, 1936 in Milburn, Oklahoma to parents, Bud and Maggie VanDeventer Parks. She married Charles Coney in Richardson, Texas on August 22, 1958. She worked for the Bay City Independent School District as an attendance clerk and secretary and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the 100 Club of Matagorda County and the First Baptist Church of Bay City.

She was preceded in death by: her parents and a sister, Laverne Pierce.

She is survived by: her husband, Charles of Bay City, a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Connie Coney of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Dennis McCulloch of Bay City; brothers, Theo Cloyd and Francis Parks of Dallas, Kieller Parks of Kingston, Oklahoma, Hoyte and Christine Parks of Lone Oak, Texas, Pat Parks of Milburn, Oklahoma and Buddy and Ola Mae Parks of Milburn, Oklahoma. She is also survived by sisters, Wanda Allen of Chandler, Arizona, Helen Holdridge of Rowlett, Texas, and twin sister, Wilma and Jim Branch of Buffalo, Missouri; as well as grandchildren, Shannon and Ryan Petersen, Heather McCulloch, Kimberlee Coney, Rebecca Coney, and Avery Coney plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation is scheduled at Bay City Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 12, at the First Baptist Church in Bay City with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charles Leon Coney
November 24, 1934 - March 20, 2023

Charles Leon Coney, 88, of Bay City passed away March 20, 2023.  He was born November 24, 1934 in Ladonia, Texas to the late Roy “Buster” Leon Coney and Millie Dee Roderick Coney.

After graduating from Garland High School, he attended Clarendon Junior College where he was Captain of the Basketball Team and East Texas College.  He married Betty Lou “Tot” Parks and located to Corpus Christi, Texas to pursue a teaching career.  After receiving his Masters Degree from Kingsville A & I, he moved to Bay City, Texas to become Principal at Tenie Holmes Elementary.  He retired from there after 25 years.

Charles was a lifetime member of the Bay City Lions Club where he held numerous positions and received numerous awards.  He was very involved with the 100 Club of Bay City, Bay City Chamber of Commerce, Matagorda/Wharton CPS and the Retired Teachers Association.

He was a staunch supporter of Bay City High School sports.  He attended almost every Football Game, both home and away.  He refereed both Boys and Girls Basketball throughout his career and beyond and really enjoyed the Bay City girls softball games.

Later in life he enjoyed spending time with family, eating breakfast at Diamond S, traveling to see relatives and making trips to Praseks in El Campo to buy steaks.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Parks Coney; brothers Elam Coney, Billy Coney, Donnie Bobo and Freddy Bobo and sisters Rita Joe and Roseann.

Survivors include son Jeff Coney (Connie); daughter Terri McCullough (Dennis); grandchildren Kim and Adam Rodriguez, Rebecca and Haydn Hutson, Avery and Sarah Coney, Shannon McCullough (Issam) and Heather and Clayton Hales and great grandchildren Jude, Teddy, Leo, Lynnie, Kasen, Ava, Henri, Troy, Tripp, Rhett and Ryder.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday, March 24, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City.  Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Ron Autin, William Dale, Richard Carlin, Bob Klepac, Richard Walton and John Arlitt.  Bobby Kimball will serve as honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the 100 Club, Lions Eye Bank, CPS or the Retired Teachers Association.

Leroy Patrick Cooke, Jr.

Funeral services for Leroy Patrick Cooke, Jr., 24, of Bay City, will be held at 10 am Wednesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Mr. Cooke was born March 22, 1961, in El Campo, and died March 24, 1985, at SH 60 and FM 521.

He was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include his father, Leroy Patrick Cook, Sr. of Pearland; mother, Betty Cooke of Van Vleck; sisters, Valerie Keith and Paul Beekman of Bay City and Mary Anne Cooke of Van Vleck; a brother, Larry Cooke of Oceanside, Calif.; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Leula Burton of El Campo; maternal great-grandfather, Paul LaBay of El Campo; and paternal grandparents, Fred and Paula Cooke of Nacogdoches.

Pallbearers include Jeffery Dornak, Craig Dornak, Tommy Dornak, Burton Berger, Steve Roach, and Less Raynes.

Funeral Services for Loyd Lindell Cross, 68, of Centerville, will be 10 am Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.  Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 pm Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Cross died Dec. 19, 1999 at East Texas Medical Center Hospital in Crockett after a long battle with Emphysema.  He was born in Beeville on May 11, 1931.

He is survived by: his wife of 19 years, Raedona Cross; sister, Pauline Hacley and husband, Frank; his mother-in-law, Sylvia Landry; his daughter, Vicky Avants and husband Larry, Cheryl Klaiber and husband Dave, both of Bay City; son, Jeff Cross of Kasper, WY; step-children, Stephen Saha and wife Monica of Longview, Tibble Urban and husband Mike of Friendswood, Tammy Evans and husband Jerry of Houston, Craig Saha and wife, Dawn, and Russell Saha of Bay City; special person, Tama Cross, Ann Saha and Allen Townsend, all of Bay City; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Keith and Scott Avants, Michelle and Sean Klaiber, Jeffery, Amanda, and Danica Cross, Kimberly Penland, Kyle and Cade Urban, Ashley and Brittney Townsend, Jonathan and Stephanie Evans, Bonnie, Jacob, Darbi, Megan and Cory Saha, and Trey McCullers; and great granddaughter, Madison Avants.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Ruben Franklin Cross; mother, Ethel Stout Cross; and by his sisters, Nila Ivene Cross, Christine Highberg, and Celia Elkins.
