Funeral services for Margaret Suniga Yanes, 69, were held Jan. 12 at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Matula and Rev. Jacinto Guin of El Campo officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery. A rosary service was held Jan. 11 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Mrs. Yanes was born June 10, 1914 in McFadden and died Jan. 10, 1983 in El Campo Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of Camerino and Gila Garcia Suniga and had been a resident of Palacios for 40 years. Mrs. Yanes was very active in the arts and crafts at the senior center, nursing home and hospital and church prayer group. Survivors include seven daughters, Irene Benavidez and Mary Lou Veca of El Campo, Lucy Mata of Palacios; Margaret Nunez and Jo Anne Rodriguez of Houston; Gloria Sanchez of Dime Box, Tx., and Linda Villagram of Claybourn; four sons, Gilbert Yanes of Point Comfort, Joe Yanes of Dallas, Victor Yanes of Rockdale and Joe Morales of Palacios; five sisters, Santos Estrada of Pasadena, Lupe Magenea, Faustin Zboral, Manuela Zboral, all of Bay City, and Tomasa Pacheco of Florida; two brothers, Victor Suniga of Galveston and Tidora Suniga of Bay City; 44 grandchildren and 70 great grandchildren.

George Gibbs Yarbrough, 68, a former longtime resident of Victoria, died Sunday night in a hospital in Little Rock, Ark., following a long illness. Mr. Yarbrough, an Army veteran of World War II, was born Dec. 23, 1912, in Mansfield, La., He was an active certified public accountant, and was also associated with several Victoria real estate companies. He was a former employee of A. B. J. Hammett investments and Developments of Victoria. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Victoria and Keatchie, La. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby J. Yarbrough. Graveside services will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at Palacios Community Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel O. Sanderson of First English Lutheran Church officiating. Surviving are two sons, George Gibbs Yarbrough of Soudertton, Pa. and John C. “Jack” Yarbrough of San Antonio; a brother, John Burns Yarbrough of Shreveport, La., and a sister, Mary Blanche Young of Popular Bluff, Mo. The family has requested that in lieu of the usual remembrances, that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Graveside services for Ruby Redmon Yarbrough of Houston were held at 1 p. m. Friday, March 17, in the Palacios Cemetery. A native of Palacios, she was born here April 14, 1918, attended Palacios schools, graduating with the class of 1934. A former freelance court reporter of Victoria for about 20 years, she died Tuesday, March 14, in Houston. Surviving are her husband, George Gibbs Yarbrough of Houston; two sons, Dr. George G. Yarbrough Jr. of Landsdale, Pa. and John C. Yarbrough of Austin; a daughter, Sarah Yarbrough of Victoria; a sister, Mrs. Thomas (Norine) Kazan of Houston; a half-sister, Mrs. Glenn (Clara) Claybourn of Victoria; a half brother, L. E. Hastings of Houston and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Emil Albert “Sonny” Yates, Jr., 68, of Palacios, were held May 29, 1998 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Cruz officiating. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Yates was born Aug. 9, 1929 in Houston to Emil Albert Yates, Sr. and Mildred Lucile Bender Yates. He died May 26, 1998 at DeTar Hospital in Victoria. He was a resident of Palacios for the past 40 years. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aries 3821 in Palacios. He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe Rocha of Palacios. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Lucile Yates; and a brother, Jack Yates. Pallbearers were Martin Rocha, Mike Dudley, Jack Beard, George Cepak, Mike Shimek, and Greg Seaman.

Funeral services for Alfonse F. Ybarra were held at 2 p. m. Thursday, November 15, at the Second Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Leslie E. Webb officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. A prayer service was held at Rendon Funeral Home Chapel at 9 p. m. Wednesday, Nov. 14. Mr. Ybarra was born Jan. 23, 1897, in Darth Port, India. A retired commercial shrimp boat owner-operator, he had lived here for 55 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Woodmen of the World and the Masonic Lodge. He passed away at 6:45 p. m. Tuesday, November 13 in Wagner General Hospital following a long illness. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edwin H. Young, Jr., three stepsons, Peter Martinez, Telesforo Rivas, Manuel Rivas; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of Palacios.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa Flores Ybarra were held Thursday, March 6, at 9:45 a. m. from Rendon Funeral Home Chapel and at 10 a. m. from the Second Presbyterian Church with the Rev. L. E. Webb officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Prayer service was held at 8 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Born August 30, 1886 in Las Flores, Texas, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Flores, she had been a resident of Palacios for 59 years. She died Tuesday morning in Wagner General Hospital following a short illness. Survivors include four sons, Lupe Martinez of Freeport, Pedro Martinez, Telesforo Rivas and Manuel Rivas of Palacios; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Young of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Santiago “Jimmy” Flores of Palacios; 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Marjorie M. Bell Yoesel, 81, of Olathe, Kansas, were held at 11 a. m., April 17, 1995 at College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery with the Rev. R. H. Zumalt officiating. Ms. Yoesel was born August 26, 1913 in Forrest Grove, Oregon, to Authur Leslie and Anna Baker Matteson. She died Friday, April 14, 1995. She was retired as senior cashier from CP&L in Palacios and was a member of College Church of the Nazarene. Ms. Yoesel is survived by her daughter, Karen Bell McClellan of Olathe, Kansas; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Mid America Nazarene College, 2030 College Way, Olathe, Kansas 66062.

Funeral services for Manuel Zaragoza, 67, were held Jan. 30 at 2 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ruben D. Flores officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Zaragoza was born May 24, 1918 in Rowlett, Texas and died Jan. 28, 1986 at Wagner General Hospital. The daughter of Francisco and Genoveva Lozana, she had been a resident of Palacios for three years. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joe Gonzales and Virginia Zargoza Gonzales of Palacios; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ignacio and Pearl Zaragoza of Houston and Lupe and Julia Rodriguez of Huntsville; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jose Gonzalez; Joe Rodriguez, Lupe Rodriguez, Geronimo E. Vaca, Roy Garcia, Max Zaragoza, Andrew Davila and Daniel Garcia.

Graveside services for Nick Zero were held in the Palacios Cemetery Monday, September 8, at 1 p. m. with the Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. Born January 15, 1930, in Palacios, he was killed in an industrial accident in Houston Friday, September 5. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Katie Zero; three sisters, Mary Jane Zero and Mrs. Dorothy Ward, all of Palacios; Annie Marie Zero of Austin and two brothers, Jesse and Joe Zero of Galveston.

A mass was held for Amelia “Molly” Mardaluna Zickuhr, 70, July 6 at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery with Rev. Larry Matula officiating. A rosary was held July 5 at 7:30 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Zickuhr was the daughter of Adolph Heinrich and Anna Simecek Heinrich. Zickuhr was born Dec. 10, 1913 in Dilworth, TX and died July 3, 1984 at Canterbury Villa Nursing Home in Navasota, TX. She was a lifelong resident of Palacios and was of the Catholic religion. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Ann Garett of Navasota and Margaret Marie Broderick, also of Navasota; five sisters, Mary Bohuslav, Betty Vacek and Annie Kutach and Ethel Cavromvic, both of Wharton; and 4 grandchildren.
