Addie Allen Traylor was born near Columbus, Texas, Feb. 2, 1872, and died at her home in this city at 11 a. m. January 23, 1934, following an attack of apoplexy shortly after noon Saturday. At the age of five years she was left an orphan and taken by an elder sister, Mrs. Carrie Clapp, who raised her as one of her own family. On July 17th, 1893, Addie Allen was married to John Traylor, of Edna, where they made their home for ten years and where their two children, Carrie Joe and Edwin were born. From Edna they moved to the ranch home in the southern part of Jackson County, where they became one of the most hospitable families of that section. Seventeen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Traylor moved to Palacios and continued to make this city their home and became two of our foremost and beloved citizens. This union was broken on July 5th, 1932, when Mr. Traylor was suddenly take to the other shore. In early life Mrs. Traylor united with the Methodist Church, and rendered efficient and faithful service to this church wherever she made her home. She served as president of the Missionary Society here twelve years. Was a Sunday School teacher a number of years and in all parts of the church her influence was recognized. Not only was she interested in her church but the community in which she resided as well, and was ever alert and willing to do her part whenever called upon. Her cheerful greeting, pleasant smile and words of cheer and comfort to those she visited as well as those with whom she came in contact with every day will be sadly missed. To visit the shut-ins, sick and needy was one of her greatest joys, and the morning before she was stricken she had spent an hour or more with a friend, who was not able to be out. Her life is a sacred memory to all who came within her circle, as well as an inspiration, and we can say she filled her place in this life to the utmost. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. C. E. Latson of Lubbock, one son, E. A. Traylor of this city; one brother, Augustus Allen of Beaumont; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Clapp, of El Campo and Mrs. Sadie Leeds, of Wharton; four grand-daughters, Misses Evelyn, Johnnye and June Latson, and Mary Traylor, besides a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock, conducted by Rev. E. F. Kluck, pastor of the Methodist Church. Special music was furnished by a male quartette from El Campo, of which two of her nephews, Hester and Noval Clapp are members. The remains were then taken to the Palacios Cemetery, followed by one of the longest processions of friends and relatives ever witnessed here, where interment was made beside her loved companion, under the direction of the Palacios Funeral Home. Four nephews, Monroe Sells, Garland Brooking, Sam Clapp and Carroll Traylor, with Thomas Brandon and Frank Gillespie were the pall bearers. The many beautiful floral offerings, many from out of town churches and societies, and friends attested the love and high esteem held for the departed one.

Mr. John Traylor, who died in Palacios on July 5, 1932, was born May 6, 1868, in Jackson County, Texas. He was a son of J. C. and Mary A. Traylor. In 1875 his parents moved to the Swan Lake community in the southern part of Jackson county and here he grew to manhood. On July 19, 1893 he was married to Miss Addie Pearl Allen, of near Columbus, with Rev. Sterling Fisher performing the ceremony. He took his bride to the Swan Lake home where they lived and reared two children, a son E. A. Traylor, of Houston and a daughter, Mrs. Carrie Joe Latson, of Brady. In December 1915, Mr. Traylor moved his family to Palacios and in February 1916, he purchased the Joiner Hardware store on the south side of Commerce Street. In the early part of 1920 he moved his stock to the Smith building at the corner of Commerce and Fifth streets, and in May of the same year purchased from John Davis the former Sparks Hardware Store, consolidated the two stocks and moved into the building Mr. Davis was using, which is now occupied by the Golden Rule Grocery, and remained in this building until he moved into the present location of the Traylor Hardware Co. Mr. Traylor was very progressive in his business and his stock was complete, neat and clean at all times. He was of a quiet unassuming nature, but a true friend, ever ready to lend a helping hand. Never a time did we pass him on the street or meet him in his place of business that he did not have a smile or some word of cordial greeting. He took great pleasure in planning his store, and his home, and was ever ready to help in anything for the benefit of the town. Living close to the water as he had done all his life he was especially interested in boats, and many a boat of his design and workmanship has sailed gracefully on Tres-Palacios and Carancahua bays. Mr. Traylor was a devoted member of the Methodist Church, having united with it in early life, and enjoyed any service he could attend. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter, four grand-daughters, one brother, R. K. Traylor, of Kendalia, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. A. A. Coates, of Edna, and Mrs. J. T. Brooking, LaWard; one half-brother, W. L. Traylor, and one half-sister, Mrs. L. Hensley, both of LaWard; besides a number of nieces and nephews. The sudden death of Miss Mattie A. Turner, at noon Monday came as a shock to her friends and neighbors. She seemed in her usual health that morning and had visited with neighbors, never dreaming her life's journey was so near at end. Relatives and friends were notified and a nephew from Salem, Oregon, and a niece in Bloomfield, Iowa, are on their way here, expecting to arrive Friday. Funeral arrangements will be made after their arrival. Miss Turner, with her brother, came to Palacios about four years ago for their health and both were so greatly benefitted they decided to remain and make this their permanent home, purchasing the Wm. Hall property on Lucas Ave., just west of Pavilion St. Miss Turner soon became a strong booster for Palacios and told her many friends about its wonderful climate and beautiful location. Her brother, Charles Turner, passed away a year ago last November and buried in the Palacios cemetery. Miss Turner was ever cheerful, had traveled extensively and could converse intelligently on most any subject. She made friends readily and during the time she has been here as hostess of the Imenda. Rooming House, she endeared herself to many of our visitors who stopped with her, who with Palacios citizens regret her demise.
