Paul Stone, A WPA worker at Camp Hulen, met death Tuesday when he fell from a truck on which he was riding with other employees. The wheels of the heavy truck passed over his head, crushing his face and caused almost instant death. Paul Worth Stone, son of W. W. and Montana Stone, was born Dec. 8, 1888, at Ellinsburg, Washington. He came to Texas with his parents when they came to this state to make their home. In 1912 he was married to Stella Null and to them were born 4 children, two of whom preceded him in death. Two daughters, survive, Mrs. Alola Campbell, of Galveston, and Mrs. Frances Harpel, of San Antonio. Other surviving relatives are his mother, with whom he lived, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Baar, of Houston and a brother, Barton W. Stone, of Brewerton, Wash. At the age of ten eyes he was baptized into Christ, and lived so far as man could see, a faithful Christian life even unto death. His life among the people of Palacios, has been such that during the seven years of residence here he has won a host of friends. His life has been the type that manifested itself in helping his fellow man and serving his heavenly father. Since the death of his father six years ago he has been a constant companion of his mother, to whom his whole life was devoted. He has been a strength and stay for her during all her troubles and cares. Besides the immediate family there are friends to whom he has become very dear, who will miss him. Funeral services were conducted by Eld. C. F. Connor, Tuesday afternoon at 5 o’clock at the Palacios Funeral Home after which the remains were interred in the Palacio cemetery. Palacios Beacon, March 7, 1940 Correction In giving the report of the death of Paul W. Stone, we stated he was working on a W. P. A. project in Camp Hulen. This was an error as Mr. Stone was employed on a Purchase and Hire Project for the National Guard Bureau, which is a branch of the War Department at Camp Hulen. Dr. Stone was accidentally killed Tuesday, March 5, and following funeral services at the Palacios Funeral home Wednesday, March 6, at 5 p. m. his remains were interred in the Palacios Cemetery, Eld. C. F. Conner officiating.

W. W. Stone, was born in Wise County, Texas, Nov. 25, 1857, and departed this life March 4, 1934. On March 20, 1886, he was married to Montana Stapp in the state of Washington. To them were born three sons and two daughters. One son died in infancy, while the other four children, Paul W., of Palacios, Barton W., of Paga Paga, American Samoa, in the South Sea Islands, Mrs. Elizabeth Baar, of Houston, and Mrs. Adlyn Bryon, of Dallas, with their mother remain here on earth to await the happy reunion is a better world. In Sept. 1878 Brother Stone was baptized into Christ and for more than 50 years he has lived a life in service to his Master. Much of his Christian life was spent preaching the gospel, telling other of the Savior of whom he had learned in early life. He taught many singing schools and composed a number of good sacred hymns. He has resided in South Texas for over 30 years and for many years he was a medical doctor. Later in life he graduated from the school of Chiropractic in San Antonio and helped to alleviate suffering in this manner. For the past 11 years Dr. Stone and wife have made their home in Palacios. Something over two years ago he suffered a partial stroke of paralysis and since that time his health has gradually failed. The second and fatal stroke came just a week before his death. During the past year their son Paul, has been here to assist in caring for his father. Brother Stone leaves a rich heritage, a noble family, a host of friends, both far and near, and multitudes who have heard the story of the Christ from his lips. He left this world, as many other Christians have done without receiving a proper reward, but his reward will come from God his maker, whom he served. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C.F. Conner after which interment took place in the Palacios cemetery under the direction of the A.A. Duffy Undertaking Co.

Harold James Stratton, 11-year-old son of Beatrice and Chester Haynes was killed in a fatal accident which occurred Monday noon. The child tripped and fell under the wheels of a wrecker truck driven by Wiley Logan, as the truck was moving not over 5 miles an hour. The driver saw the youth holding on to the side of his truck and told him to get away just as the boy tripped and fell. The accident occurred in front of the youth’s home on Ninth Street between Ritchie and Humphrey Avenue, according to Police Chief Tom Hill. Chief Hill reminds all youths to stay clear of the middle of the roads as they go to and from school. If you have to walk in the road, walk on the side, he added.
