Mrs. Jos. M. Stainbrook died last Saturday afternoon, after a long illness. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, of which she was a most devoted and earnest member, Monday morning at 10 o’clock, which were conducted by the pastor, Dr. Green, and were attended by a large assembly of sympathizing friends and neighbors. The deceased is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Trowbridge, and Mrs. Ruth Nelson, and to whom the sincere sympathy of all the people of this city is extended in this hour of bereavement. The funeral service was one of the most beautiful and impressive ever held in this city. The discourse by Dr. Green was a beautiful tribute to the memory of the departed, and his sermon was such as to bring comfort to the sorrowing and lift the thoughts of all his hearers to loftier and noble ideals. In the service Dr. Green was assisted by Rev. Williams, pastor of the Methodist church, and Rev. Bristor, pastor of the Christian church, the former reading the scripture, and the latter offering prayer. Though flowers are scarce just at this season, the floral offerings were beautiful. The ladies aid society of the church gave a rich collection of white roses and white carnations, and the adult Bible class of the Presbyterian Sunday school brought a handsomely designed pillow of violets. Of both these organizations the deceased was a most highly prized member and for them was always an earnest worker when health would permit. The pulpit platform of the church was tastefully decorated in white, evergreens and violets. The remains were carried from the residence in the adjoining block to the church by the pallbearers. After the funeral services at the church, graveside rites were performed at the city cemetery. Mrs. Stainbrook had been a sufferer for many years. Five years ago the family physician at their home in Pennsylvania told Mr. Stainbrook that his wife could live but a few weeks or months at most. This decided Mr. Stainbrook, and he at once arranged to remove to Palacios, which he did, and has the satisfying consciousness of believing that by his prompt action Mrs. Stainbrook’s life was prolonged for five years, as her health was much improved after coming here, and continued better until this last illness, which baffled both the physicians and the climate.
