Funeral services for Kenneth Joseph Sanchez, 37, of Houston, were held Aug. 28, 2003 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Sanchez was born Feb. 18, 1966 in Houston to Lucio and Lucy Garza Sanchez, Jr. He died Aug. 24, 2003 in Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston. He was a member of the Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Houston. In addition to his parents, he is survived by brothers David Sanchez of Missouri City, Tx., and Gerald Sanchez of Wharton, Tx.; and god-daughter Audrey Sanchez of Houston. Pallbearers were Michael Rios, Gary and Larry Garza, Mario and Thomas Garcia, Rodelio Duran and Daryl Gallardo. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Samora, Rick Mendoza and Tom Savedra.

Services were held June 5, 1990 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Palacios for Leo M. Sanchez, Jr. of Palacios who had died June 2. Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiated at the ceremony and at the burial which followed at the Palacios Cemetery. A rosary was said Monday night at the Palacios Funeral Chapel. Sanchez was born in Palacios on September 18, 1943 to Leo and Felipa Gonzales Sanchez. His mother survives him as does his wife, Lorraine Martinez Sanchez of Palacios; a daughter, Martha Valdez of La Porte; sons Jimmy Valdez of Palacios, Edward Rojas of Austin and Leo Sanchez III of Houston; brothers Henry Sanchez, Phillip Sanchez, and Louis Sanchez, all of Houston; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers were Henry Sanchez, Louis Sanchez, Leo Sanchez III, Santo Aluiso, Jr., David Sardovar, and Andrew Longoria III.

Funeral services for Louis Sanchez, 57, of Humble, were held Feb. 27, 1998 at the Palacios Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Garcia and Bro. Ernest Gonzales officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Sanchez was born April 19, 1940 in Palacios to Eladio and Felipa Gonzales Sanchez. He died Feb. 24, 1998 in Humble. He was employed as an Electrical Designer for XYSYS Corp. of Houston. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his wife, Eva Sanchez of Humble; a daughter, Sylvia Sanchez of Humble; his mother Felipa Gonzales Sanchez of Palacios; a brother, Phillip Sanchez of Palacios; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were Kenny Reed, George Frangullie, Jr., Alfred Garcia, Rogelio Garza, Christopher Davila, ad Domingo Torres.

Funeral services for Lucio G. Sanchez, 72, of Palacios, were held Sept. 1, 1991 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Sanchez was born Jan. 9, 1919 to Manuel and Josefa Garcia Sanchez in Blessing. He died Aug. 30, 1991 in Victoria. He was a member of the 25 Year Club of Alcoa. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his wife, Margaret Sanchez of Palacios; a daughter, Hope Terrasas of Palacios; three sons, Lucio Sanchez Jr. of Houston, Robert Sanchez and Eddie Ray Sanchez, both of Palacios; a brother, Gilbert Sanchez of Port Lavaca; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Phillip Sanchez, 60, of Palacios, were held Dec. 29, 1998 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Sanchez was born April 9, 1938 in Palacios to Eladio and Felipa Gonzales Sanchez. He died Dec. 26, 1999 [1998]. He is survived by his mother, Felipa Gonzales Sanchez of Palacios.

Funeral services for Randy E. Sanchez, two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Sanchez, were held at 2 p. m. Saturday, September 16, at the Rendon Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. C. Henning officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 30, 1965 and died Thursday in a Houston hospital after an illness of two weeks. Surviving besides the parents are three brothers, Louis, Rudy and Danny, all of Palacios; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cruz Sanchez of Palacios and Mr. and Mrs. Abel Escobedo of Gonzales and a great grandmother, Mrs. Natividad Sepulveda of Gonzales.

Funeral services for Salvador A. Sanchez were held at 3:15 p. m. Sunday, December 7 at the Second Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Leslie E. Webb Jr. officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Born in Fannin, Texas on December 11, 1907, he had resided in Palacios since 1957. He died at 8:45 a. m. Friday in Wagner General Hospital following a long illness. Survivors are a son, Simon Sanchez of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Willie Gonzales of Eagle Lake and Mrs. Abel Castro of Corpus Christi; three brothers, Gilbert of New Gulf, Lucio and Frank Sanchez of Palacios; a sister, Stefana Sanchez, of Palacios and 13 grandchildren.

David Louis Sanderfer, two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie J. Sanderfer, was drowned in a watering trough at the home of his parents on the former Oscar Cavallin place 2 ˝ miles northwest of Palacios, Friday, November 26, 1943. The body was taken to Port Lavaca, former home of the parents, where funeral services and burial took place Saturday. Mr. Sanderfer is an employee of Camp Hulen. The grief stricken parents have sympathy of the entire community.

Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Moore Sanders, wife of Mr. F. H. Sanders, passed away in a hospital in Palestine, Texas, March 14th, having gone there for an operation. Mrs. Sanders was born in Clebourne, Texas, December 24, 1886. At the age of 18 she married Mr. H. F. Sanders at Rosenberg, Texas. In her girlhood she became a Christian and a member of the Baptist Church. She lived a consecrated life and was faithful to her Church as long as her health would permit. For several years her membership was in the First Baptist Church of Palacios, but recently she had moved to Brownsville and had affiliated with the Church there. She is survived by her husband, F. H. Sanders, two daughters, Mrs. W. B. Baldwin of Houston and Mrs. D. C. Schenck of Neches; one granddaughters, Ouida Baldwin of Houston; and two brothers, Mr. Byron T. Moore of Houston and Roscoe B. Moore of Shreveport, La. Funeral services will be conducted in the First Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 with Rev. L. W. Crouch in charge and Palacios Funeral Home as funeral directors.

Funeral services for Billie Sanders, 77, of Palacios were held at 4 p. m. Tuesday, February 14, 1995 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Rev. Hollas Hoffman officiating. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Sanders was born August 12, 1917 in Ochiltree, Texas to William Harvey and Mary Elizabeth Butler Forbes. She died February 12, 1995 at Victoria Regional Hospital. She was a resident of Palacios since 1945, a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired Registered Nurse, having worked for the Old Bayview Hospital, Wagner General Hospital as well as being the school nurse for Palacios ISD. She worked for the Leisure Lodge Nursing Home. Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband, Richard E. Sanders of Palacios; two daughters and sons-in-law, Billie Ruth and Henry Jackson of Hempstead; Mary Helen and Johnnie Johnson of El Campo; one son, Richard E. Sanders of Palacios; one sister and brother-in-law, Dessa and Chuck Wright of Hope, Idaho; three grandchildren Stacy Murrell of Cottontown, Tennessee, Sara Jackson and David Jackson both of Hempstead; two great-grandchildren, Heather and Ricky Murrell of Cottontown, Tennessee; two nieces, Mary Del Jacobs of Garland and Cindy Mahuka of Fort Colling [Collins], Colorado; two nephews, Mark Mahuka of Hawaii and Steve Wright of California; and mother-in-law Beatrice Sanders of Houston. She was preceded in death by parents and two sisters, Marianne Saunders and Elizabeth Mahuka; brother W. H. Forbes, Jr. and grandson Michael David Jackson

Sanders was born Nov. 17, 1969 in St. Petersburg, Fla. and died Aug. 24, 1986 at Hermann Hospital in Houston. Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Mae Sanders, 82, were held Feb. 27 at 3 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Elree Smithheart [Smithart] officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Sanders, a resident of Palacios since 1930, was born March 25, 1903 in Butler, Alabama and died Feb. 25, 1986 at Wagner General Hospital. Survivors include three daughters, Thelma Flock of Bullhead City, Arizona, Jessie Hairston of Houston, and Ruby Penland of Palacios; three sons, Frank Sanders and Thomas Sanders, both of Palacios and Ronald Sanders of Houston; one sister, Sarah Willett of Bayou LaBatre, La.; 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons, Tim and Alan Hairston, Paul and Keith Penland, and Gary, Scott and John Sanders.

Death by accident has taken the life of another son of Mr. and Mrs. William Sanders of Palacios. Donnie Ray Sanders, 24, was fatally injured in a one car accident near Portland, Texas, Saturday night. Critically injured in the crash was James Leroy Evans, 19, also of Palacios. He was admitted to Memorial Medical Center in Corpus Christi. Highway patrolmen said the car driven by Sanders ran off Highway 181 about a quarter mile north of Portland and hit a palm tree. Law enforcement officials had difficulty in identifying the two victims as neither was carrying identification papers. On May 26, 1967, Joseph E. Sanders, another son of Mr. and Mrs. Sanders, was accidentally killed when the tractor he was driving overturned, pinning him beneath it, while at work at the brick plant. Funeral services for Donnie Ray were held at 10 a. m. Tuesday, August 5, at the Palacios Funeral Home with the Rev. Wesley Vandiever, of the Church of God of Prophecy, officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Survivors include his parents, three brothers, James Harold Sanders of Blessing; William Lee Sanders of New York and Charlie Wayne Sanders of El Campo.

Graveside services for Mrs. Flora E. Sanders were held in the Palacios Cemetery, Sunday, September 9, at 5 p. m. Mrs. Sanders, who had lived with her sister, Mrs. Dora Lofton, since the death of her husband in 1935, died Friday, September 7 at the age of 85 years and 11 months. A native of Mississippi, she moved to Clarksville, Texas, when she was married during her early twenties. Her husband, the late H. M. Sanders, was at one time a Matagorda County Commissioner, where they lived for many years. The couple moved to Houston in 1924, where Mr. Sanders was in the real estate business. She was an active member of Grace Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Roland C. Spivey; son, Marvin M. Sanders, and sister, Mrs. Dora Lofton, all of Houston; brothers, M. A. Monroe of Wallis and a granddaughter, Mrs. B. W. Thurman of Dallas.

Funeral services for Gary Allen Sanders, 36, of Palacios were held Dec. 28, 1992 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Sanders officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Sanders was born April 14, 1956 in Portsmouth, Va. He died Dec. 23, 1992 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. A longtime resident of Palacios, he was affiliated with the Baptist church. The remains of Henry M. Sanders, who died at his home in Houston Saturday night, were brought here Sunday and interred in the Palacios Cemetery after services at the grave conducted by Rev. T. C. Jester, at 3 p. m. Mr. Sanders was 57 years of age and is survived by his wife a daughter, Miss Vera Sanders, besides two sisters Mrs. J. A. Brown of Buckeye, and Mrs. J. K. Darnell, of this city, and three brothers, J. W. Sanders, of Markham, L. M. Sanders of Houston and C. D. Sanders of this city. He came to Palacios about 1907, became one of our most progressive and successful farmers, and enterprising citizens. He owned a nice farm just north of town where he made his home until he moved to Houston some seven or eight years ago. He served the county as commissioner from this precinct eight years and was ever interested in Palacios and her growth. After moving to Houston he became interested in business there and continued with it until failing health made it necessary for him to lead a more quiet life. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church, also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Woodmen of the World of Houston. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a. m. Sunday at the Heights Funeral Home in Houston by Rev. Jester and Rev. E. L. Ingram after which the body was brought overland here. Active pall bearers from Houston were Jas. W. Sartwelle, C. W. Purdy, R. R. Lewis, Dan Nelson, O. W. Banks and H. Blair. Active ones were Frank Gillespie, Oscar Hart, George McKissick, L. L. Loyd, W. E. McNabb and W. W. Wilkerson, the latter three from Bay City. A large concourse of relatives and friends accompanied the body here while many others from near by communities were present attesting the high esteem held for the departed. Among the relatives here besides the immediate family from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Brown, Buckeye; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Sanders, Markham; Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Sanders, Mr. and Mrs. Davie Brown, and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Munroe of Wallis; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Munroe, Mrs. Dora Lofton, Herbert Marshall and children of Houston; Rev. Aubrey Sanders and family, Miss Margaret Kennerly, Miss Bobby Lee Sanders, Mrs. Onie Brown and daughter.

Joseph E. Sanders was fatally injured Friday afternoon at the Pal-Port brick plant when the tractor with a hydraulic lift loaded with bricks which he was driving, overturned pinning him underneath. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 27, at 3 p. m. in the Palacios Funeral Home chapel with Rev. H. N. Hartsfield officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. A son of Mr. and Mrs. William Sanders, he was born November 12, 1941 in El Campo but had lived most of his life in Palacios. He is survived by his wife, Dora M. Sanders, his parents, four brothers, James H., William L., Donnie R., and Charlie W. Sanders all of Palacios.

Mrs. L. G. Sanders passed away at the home of her son, C. D. Sanders, on Saturday, Feb. 25, 1933, following an illness of many weeks. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Robt. Paine, of the Methodist Church. Music was furnished by a quartet from the choir of the First Baptist Church, which consisted of old songs cherished by the deceased and were beautifully and touchingly rendered. Four grandsons, Marvin Sanders, Dave Brown, Royce Darnell, Richard Sanders and two nephews, Raymond Hart and C. P. Ewing acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in the Palacios cemetery, under the direction of the Palacios Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Marvin Monroe Sanders, 66, of Houston, were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday, July 8, in the Palacios Cemetery following services at 10:30 a. m. at the Settegast-Kopf Kirby Chapel with Rev. D. Orval Strong officiating. A former resident of Palacios and son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sanders, he passed away at 8:55 p. m. Saturday, July 6. A retired Exxon superintendent, he was serving as manager of the Allen House. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, Daylight Lodge No. 1288 A F & A M, Knights Templar, The Houston Commandery, Arabia Temple, Drum and Bugle Corps. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth E. Sanders of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Roland (Vera) Spivey, Houston.

Daughter of Charlie and Ethel Foster Ingram, she was born in Centerville, Alabama, on September 6, 1912. A resident of Palacios for approximately 30 years, she died Sunday, April 26, in Wagner General Hospital. Survivors include her husband, W. J. Sanders of Palacios; four sons, James H. of Blessing, William L. of Syracuse, N. Y., Charlie W. of E. Campo and Joseph E. Sanders of Palacios; two brothers, Leo Ingram of Centerville, Ala., and Raymond Ingram of Paris, Texas.

Funeral services for Robert Allen Sanders of 414 ˝ Lucas will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, January 9, in the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. Interment will be in the Palacios Cemetery. A resident of Palacios for approximately 50 years, he was born August 23, 1893, in Monroe, La., a son of the late Charlie and Cynthia Hamilton Sanders. He was a retired commercial shrimper and a veteran of World War I, having served in the U. S. Army. He died Monday, January 7 in Wagner General Hospital after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Daisy Mae Scott Sanders of Palacios; three daughters, Thelma Flock of Anaheim, Calif., Jessie Hairston of Houston, and Ruby Penland of Palacios; three sons, Frank Sanders of Port Lavaca, Tom Sanders of Eagle Lake and Ronald Sanders of Katy; three sisters, Lillie Tackett of Poteet and Pearl Crossland and Fannie Sanders of Fort Smith, Arkansas; 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
