A memorial service for Albert Sidney “Dutch” Reynolds, 87, was held Dec. 2, 2000 in the Chapel at The Hospice at the Texas Medical Center in Houston with Hospice Chaplain Jim Barclift officiating. Interment will be at the Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Reynolds was born Aug. 6, 1913 in Palacios to David Hiram and Mary Powell Reynolds. He died Nov. 27, 2000. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 1881st Engineer Aviation Battalion in New Guinea, Leyte and Luzon. His peacetime occupation was that of geophysical seismograph surveying in many states with Taylor Exploration and Amerada Hess. He is survived by nephews George Reynolds, Jr., and Elbert Reynolds Glaze; niece Edna Mayo Heath; great nephews Charles and John Glaze; great nieces Leanna Jackson and Sharon Reynolds; as well as Christopher Reynolds and Lauren Elizabeth Glaze.

Funeral services for David Hiram Reynolds were held in the Palacios Cemetery at 11 o’clock this Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. G. F. Gillespie. Mr. Reynolds, a former resident of Palacios died Tuesday morning in Houston where he had made his home since 1941. He was 92 years of age. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mary Reynolds, daughters, Miss Loretta Jane Reynolds and Mrs. Ivy Lee Glaze, of Corpus Christi, and Mrs. Lizzie Crawford, Marathon; sons, J. Edgar and Albert S. Reynolds of Houston, and Monroe Reynolds, San Antonio, and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were held March 25 at the Palacios Cemetery for Loretta Jane Reynolds, 89, of Houston. Miss Reynolds was born on September 17, 1901 and died March 23, 1991. She grew up in Palacios and graduated from Palacios High School in 1919. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Houston, taught school before joining GMAC on March 5, 1929 and retired after 38 years of service to GMAC on March 6, 1966. Miss Reynolds was an active member of the San Jacinto Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She is survived by a brother, Albert S. Reynolds of Houston; nephews Elbert R. Glaze of Houston and George Reynolds of Texas City; niece Edna Mayo Heath of South Carolina; great-nephews Charles and John Glaze of Houston; great-great-nephew Christopher Glaze of Houston.

The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Reynolds died Monday morning from whooping cough. Funeral services were held at the family residence Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Israel of the Baptist church, and which were attended by a large number of the friends and neighbors of the family, followed by interment at the city cemetery. The family have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.

Graveside services were held at 11 a. m. last Wednesday at the Palacios Cemetery for Mrs. Mary Lavada Reynolds, 87, of 3111 Plumb, Houston. A former resident of Palacios, Mrs. Reynolds was a native of Wood County, Texas, and had lived in Houston the past 20 years. She died at 5:30 p. m. Monday in a Houston hospital. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Iva Lee Glaze of Corpus Christi and Miss Loretta Reynolds; two sons, Albert S. Reynolds and J. Edgar “Dutch” Reynolds all of Houston; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Williams, San Antonio; granddaughter, Mrs. Erna Heath, McAllen; grandson, George Reynolds, Jr., Texas City, and Elbert R. Glaze, Corpus Christi.

Miss Addie Rible died at the home of her nephew, Jim Wiley, Jan. 22, 1938, at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 18 days. She was born in Newark, Ohio, Oct. 4, 1848 moved to Texas in 1956 with her parents, a brother T. Rible, of Edna, Texas, a sister Mrs. Deliah Wiley and a younger sister of Indianola, who have preceded her in death. Her parents died in 1858 at Mission Valley, Victoria County, Texas. Miss Rible had had a very active life up to a few months ago when she became ill. Funeral services were conducted at the Brandon-Duffy Funeral Home at 3:30 Sunday afternoon by Jehovah’s Witnesses with Rev. Peoples of San Antonio officiating. Interment was made in the Palacios Cemetery under the direction of Brandon-Duffy Funeral Home. She is survived by three nieces, Mrs. W. J. Harris of LaWard, Mrs. F. J. Crawford and Mrs. W. S. Fields of Pacific Beach, California, and three nephews, J. S. Wiley of Palacios, Ben Wiley and C. H. Wiley of Bay City, Texas.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Jane Rice were held at the Palacios Funeral Home at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday, November 12 with Mr. King Culbreth of the Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Kelley, she was born March 15, 1894 in Bastrop County, Texas and died Sunday, November 10 in the hospital in Bay City. She and her husband had been a resident of Palacios for more than 25 years. She is survived by her husband, W. R. Rice, one son, Virgil Rice and two grandchildren all of Palacios; three brothers, A. Kelley, Thornt and John Wofford; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Sharpe, Mrs. Nannie White and Mrs. Alice Wilborn.

Funeral services for Darrell Alan Rice, 19, of Olivia, were held Tuesday at Palacios Funeral Home with the Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Rice died Aug. 16 in an automobile accident south of Ganado. He was employed with Critendon Water Well Services. Survivors include two sisters, Sherry Sullivan and Carol Critendon, both of Olivia; grandfather, Robert Rice of Palacios; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Laval Simons, Scott Abraham, Joe and Johnny Behrens, Ruben and Henry Zarate.

George “Jake” Rice, father of Mrs. W. S. Gillette, Jr. died Tuesday, September 2, in the Methodist Hospital in Houston. He was born August 15, 1887. Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p. m. Wednesday, September 3, at the Palacios Funeral Home. Requiem Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Thursday, September 4, at 10 a. m. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Rice of Palacios, one son, Joe A. Rice of Pueblo, Colorado; one sister, Mrs. Teresa Hastings of Monett, Mo.; one brother, Ed Rice of California and seven grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Neal Rice, residents of Palacios until 1968 when they moved to Olivia, were killed and four other persons injured in a 2-car accident at the intersection of U. S. Highway 87 and Farm Road 616 at Placedo Thursday night about 9:20. Mr. Rice was pronounced dead on arrival at a Victoria hospital and his wife died in the same hospital shortly after 10 p. m. Hospitalized in Victoria were Mr. and Mrs. Jack McKelvy of Olivia, C. E Woods and Vernon R. Singleton of Crescent Valley. Jimmy R. Johnson of Crescent Valley was treated for cuts and released. Mike Woods also of Crescent Valley was not injured. Highway Patrolmen Jim Kaelin and Steve Holder said Mr. and Mrs. Rice, Passengers in a car driven by McKelvy, were thrown from the vehicle on Highway 87. Mr. Rice was sitting in the front seat and Mrs. Rice in the right back seat with Mrs. McKelvy. The patrolmen said the other car, owned by Singleton and driven by C. E. Woods, was eastbound on the Farm Road with Mike Wood, Johnson and Singleton as passengers. The four were enroute to an oil rig near Bay City where they were employed as roughnecks. Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Rice were held Sunday, May 25, at 2:20 in the afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios with Mr. Nolan E. Balch pastor of the Church of Christ and Rev. Leslie E. Webb, pastor of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Rice, son of Robert and Bessie Rice, was born in Palacios on February 6, 1929. He was employed as an assistant gas plant technician at Alcoa Point Comfort Operations. The couple is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Larry Sullivan and Mrs. Van Critendon, one son, Darrell and two grandchildren, all of Olivia. In addition, Mr. Rice is survived by his father, Robert Rice of Palacios. Other survivors of Mrs. Rice include her mother, Mrs. Rosie Schneider of Palacios; three sisters, Mrs. Otto Marek of Green Lake, Mrs. Rudy Kusak of West Columbia and Mrs. James Milam of Palacios; ten brothers, Edgar and Marvin Schneider of Bay City, Walter Schneider of Victoria, Melvin Schneider of Hobbs, N. Mex., Weldon Schneider of Houston, Louis Schneider of Olivia, Alfred Schneider of Point Comfort, Erwin Schneider of Port Lavaca, Theodore and Herbert Schneider of Palacios.

Mrs. Margaret Rice, mother of Mrs. Margaret Gillett of Palacios, passed away Saturday, April 17, in Wagner General Hospital after a lingering illness. Rosary was recited at the Palacios Funeral Home Tuesday evening at 7:30. Requiem Mass was held at 10 a. m. Wednesday, April 21, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Armand Florizoone officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. A resident of Palacios for three years, she was born March 28, 1890, in Pierce City, Missouri, a daughter of Joseph and Clara Cerf Baumann. She was married to George “Jake” Rice, who preceded her in death on September 2, 1969. Other survivors include a son, Joe A. Rice of Pueblo, Colorado; a sister, Catherine Baumann of Monett, Mo.; a brother, Joe F. Baumann of Clyde, Mo.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Loyed Lee Richey, 54, of Palacios, were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with the Rev. Leon Maxwell officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Richey, a native of Dell City, Okla., died at St. Luke’s Hospital on Nov. 6. A resident of Palacios for 27 years, Richey was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Palacios Eagles Area No. 3821 and a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Dorris Richey of Palacios; daughter Sandra Johnson of Palacios; three sons, Owen and Lee, both of Blessing, and Edwin of Orchard, Tex.; three sisters, Eva Kinney of Aransas Pass, Tex., Joana Portier of Galliano, La. and Charlene Huffman of Portland, Tex.; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers were David Anders, Cliff Elliott, Howard Gibson, Marvin Curtis, Dr. Jim Howard and Elton Brister. Arrangements were made with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Palacios.

Funeral services for Irma May Blankenship Richman, 72, of Palacios, were held Dec. 16, 1996 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Steve Meadows and Paul Carter officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Richman was born June 11, 1924 in Cotton Valley, La. to Alton Felix Blankenship and Thelma Josephine Kimbrough Blankenship. She died Dec. 14, 1996 in Sweeny, Tx. A resident of Palacios since 1952, she was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Molly and John Schmidt of Freeport, Tx., and Susan and Lee Barber of Sweeny; three sister, Evelyn Broze, Lillian DeWeese and Martha McDaniel, all of Angleton, Tx.; and by three grandchildren, Cole, Bryan and Kevin Barber all of Sweeny. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Bryan Richman; a sister, Lois Wright; and a brother, H. L. Blankenship.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 17, at 4 p. m., for John Patrick Richman in the First Baptist Church here with Rev. Rayford Harris officiating and Rev. William Hodge assisting. Mr. Richman, who was 24, died after a brief illness in Jeff Davis’ Polio Center in Houston Monday, August 15. He was born November 17, 1930 in Lane City, Texas, and later moved to Danbury, Texas, finally coming to Palacios while a high school student. Recently discharged from military service, Mr. Richman married the former Phyllis Helen Holsworth of Collegeport in Waco on October 11, 1953. He was a 1949 graduate of Palacios High School and was graduated from Texas A and M College in 1953. A member of Alpha Zeta honorary fraternity while in college, Mr. Richman was also a member of the First Baptist Church and was active in church work. Pallbearers were John Heft, Jesse Allan Derrick, Thomas Holsworth, Leon Shipley, Carl Bergland, Wallace B. Travelstad, Jack Halliday and A. M. Burkett. In addition to his widow, Mr. Richman is survived by one daughter, Priscilla, 10 months, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Richman and one brother Phil Richman. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lillian Phillips Richman, 93, of Palacios were held Aug. 6, 1996 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. Hollis Hoffman officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Richman was born March 19, 1903 in Sipe Springs, Texas. She died Aug. 4, 1996 in Palacios. A long time resident of Palacios, Mrs. Richman graduated from Palacios High School in 1926. She was also very active in her church, the First Baptist Church of Palacios. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Alfred Richman; a son, Patrick Richman; and a grandson, Patrick Nathaniel Richman. She is survived by Jack Phillips, Nathan Phillips, Randall Phillips, Perry Phillips, John Schmidt and Lee Barber. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Palacios.

Funeral services for Patrick Alfred Richman, 77, of Palacios were held last week. Born in Louis on June 23, 1903, Richman died Dec. 2 in Palacios. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Richman of Palacios; a son, Phillips Richman of Brenham; a sister, Ella Beall of San Antonio; and four grandchildren, Pricilla Richman Owen, Keven Richman, Patrick Richman and Michael Richman.

Funeral services for Sidney Bryan Richman were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Friday, July 3, at 5 p. m. with the Rev. Rayford Harris officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Born August 1, 1906, in Clemville, Texas, a son of Patrick A. and Molly Hughes Richman, he had been a resident of this area since 1924. A farmer and rancher he passed away at Wagner General Hospital on July 2 after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Erma Blankenship Richman, two daughters, Mrs. Molly Schimidt and Miss Susan Irene Richman; one brother, Pat A. Richman, all of Palacios and one sister, Ellen Irene Beall of San Antonio.

Funeral services for William Earl Ringo were held at 2 p. m. Friday, January 2, 1970, at the Palacios Funeral Home with the Rev. Rayford Harris officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. A son of J. W. and Mary E. Arnold Ringo, he was born December 12, 1905, in Cordell, Oklahoma. A resident of Palacios and an employee at the brick plant for many years, he was retired. He died December 30 1969, in Wagner General Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Stella, of Palacios; four daughters, Mary Bell of Houston, Elsie Plachy of West Plains, Missouri, Starlene Motes of Point Comfort, Kay Heath of Sweeny; one son, Calvin Ringo of Palacios; one sister, Edith Stahlman of Anadarko, Okla.; three brothers, Orval Ringo and Eugene Kelly of San Saba, Alvin Ringo of Brazoria; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Bessie Maud Rinks was born Feb. 6, 1886, in Berryville, Arkansas, where early childhood was spent. Later she moved with her parents to north Texas. In 1907 she was married to Elijah Hall Rinks and to this union were born four children, two daughters, May Mosier and Ruby Erickson, of this city, and two sons, Luther Rinks, North Little Rock, Ark., and John Hall Rinks, in the service in the South Pacific. She had lived in and around Palacios the past 30 years, where she raised her family and one granddaughter, Onita Rinks. Besides the children and six grandchildren, she is survived by her mother, three sisters and one brother. She had been an invalid the past several months and her death occurred March 29, 1944. Funeral services were held from the Palacios Funeral Home and burial made in Palacios cemetery.

Funeral services for Clarence “Shine” George Ripke, Sr., were held at 3 p. m. on July 23 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lewis A. Petmecky of Port Lavaca officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery. Ripke, a resident of Palacios for 50 years, was a seafood dealer and the owner of Pat’s Fish Market. He was born June 16, 1916 in Glen Grove, New York and died July 14 at Wagner General Hospital. He was the son of Albert Earl Ripke and Adeline Krula. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Olivia Flores Ripke of Palacios; one daughter, Mary Louise Fernandez of Houston; two sons, Clarence G. Ripke, Jr. of Palacios and Philip Don Ripke of Baytown; one sister, Florence Escalante of Brownsville; one brother, Albert Ripke of Williamsport, Penn.; and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ricky Ripke Darrell Fernandez, Johnny Flores, Gilbert Flores, Jr., Cliff Elliott and John Perez.

Services were held Monday, April 9, 1990 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel for Clarence George Ripke, Jr. of Palacios. Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiated at the ceremony and at the burial at the Palacios Cemetery. Nick West gave the eulogy. Ripke was born in Palacios on April 17, 1940 to Clarence G. Ripke, Sr. and Olivia Flores Ripke, and died April 7, 1990 at Wagner General Hospital. He is survived by his wife Roberta Anthis Ripke; mother Olivia Ripke; son Richard Ripke; two daughters, Kimberly Ripke Garcia and Felicia Ripke, all of Palacios; a sister, Mary Louise Fernandez of Houston; a brother Phillip Dan Ripke of Baytown, and a granddaughter Kristen Ann Garcia of Palacios. He was preceded in death by his father (July 14, 1982). Pallbearers were Richard Gamertsfelder, Leonard Lamar, Dale Porter, Robert Long, David Bloomburg, Halley Anderson, Johnny Guess and Dr. George Roberts.

Adam G. Rivas, 19, of Palacios died Saturday, May 4, at 3:30 p. m. in John Sealy Hospital, Galveston from injuries sustained in a one-car accident three miles north of Palacios on the morning of April 27. A native and lifelong resident of Palacios, he was born November 22, 1948, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Telesforo Rivas of Palacios. Rosary was recited Monday and Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the Rendon Funeral Home Chapel. Requiem mass was held Wednesday, May 8, at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Harrold officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. He is survived by his parents; a brother, Daniel Rivas of Palacios; seven sisters, Mrs. Betty Bruderick, Mrs. Joe A. Solis, Jr., Eva Rivas, all of Palacios, Mrs. George Llanes, Jr. of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Minnie Quirarte and Esther Rivas of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Henry Resendez of El Campo and his grandmothers, Mrs. Rosa Flores and Mrs. Simona Gatica both of Palacio.
