Graveside services for Thelma Clyde Oakes, 87, were held May 31 at 4 p. m. at the Palacios Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Cude officiating. Mrs. Oakes was born Oct. 22, 1897 in Missouri and died May 29, 1985 at Wagner General Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Lexie B. Oakes, Sr. of Palacios; four sons, C. G. Oakes of Palacios, Michael Oakes of Morgan City, LA, D. L. Oakes of Palacios and Lexie Oakes, Jr. of Arizona and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Angelita Rodriguez Ochoa, 56, of Palacios, were held Aug. 10, 1996 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Ochoa was born September 23, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Tex. to Ricardo and Louisa Martinez Rodriquez. She died Aug. 6, 1996 at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston. She had been a lifelong resident of Palacios and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. She is survived by one son, Richard Lopez, of Houston; by four sisters, Ramona R. Gonzales of Corpus Christi, Aurora R. Silvas of Lubbock, Mary R. Montalvo of Corpus Christi and Carla R. Diaz of Corpus Christi; by one brother, Alfredo M. Rodriguez, of Houston; and by three grandchildren, Anthony Richard Lopez, Monica Lynn Lopez, and Charles Lopez all of Houston. Pallbearers were Anthony Richard Lopez, Charles Lopez, Danny Franco, Ruben Silvas, Alfred Silvas, Joey Gonzales and Jerry Gonzales.

Concho Ochoa, aged 59 years, 11 months and 1 day died at her home in Palacios, Saturday, Dec. 2. Funeral services were held from the residence Sunday afternoon at 3:30, with Rev. L. W. Crouch, officiating. Burial was made in the city cemetery under the direction of the Palacios Funeral Home. The deceased is survived by one daughter, Katie Lopez, and a son Alex, who is in a CCC Camp near Houston and was home for the funeral rites.

Cruz Ochoa, aged 53 years, died of a heart attack, Thursday, Oct. 12. He, with some other Mexican helpers were out on the sloop, “Hustler,” near Tiger Island, oyster fishing, and early that morning Cruz said he would go prepare him a cup of coffee. Some time had elapsed and his companions hearing nothing from him, one of them went down in to the hold and found him dead. The body was brought here to his home and prepared for burial. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon by C. F. Conner and interment made in the Palacios Cemetery, under the direction of the Duffy-Rittenhouse Undertaking Company. He is survived by a wife and two adopted children.

Felix G. Ochoa, maintenance man at the Luther Hotel, died Sunday July 20, in Wagner General Hospital after suffering a stroke the previous Sunday. Rosary was recited at Rendon Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday July 22, at 8 p. m. Funeral services were to be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Wednesday, July 23 at 10 a. m. with the Rev. Brian Crookes officiating with burial in the Palacios Cemetery Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Felix Ochoa, Sr., he was born February 22, 1911 in Port Lavaca and had been a resident of Palacios for 64 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Freda Ochoa of Palacios, one daughter, Mrs. Robert Garza of Escondido, Calif., two brothers, Cady Ochoa and Joe Ochoa and one sister, Mrs. Janie O. Castro, all of Palacios.

Funeral services for Guadalupe Ochoa Jr. were held Oct. 28 at 3:30 p. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Larry Matula officiating. Interment followed at the Palacios Cemetery. A rosary service was held Oct. 27 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Ochoa was born Jan. 26, 1926 in Palacios and died Oct. 25, 1984 in a Galveston hospital. He was a shrimper for W&W Marine. His parents were Guadalupe and Carmen Lopez Ochoa Jr. Ochoa was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Angie Rodriguez of Palacios; six daughters, Carmen Longoria of Aransas, Mary Ann White of Lewisdale, Miss., Delores Alemon of Aransas, Mary Louise Stevens of Aransas, Dora Rodriguez of Aransas and Julia Ochoa of Aransas; four sons, Martin Ochoa of Aransas, Raymond Ochoa of Sugarland, Lupe Ochoa of Huntsville, and Michael Ochoa of Aransas; one step-son, Richard Lopez of Houston; five sisters, Amelia Zarate of Bay City, Frances Pena of Bay City, Lelia Roberts of Houston, Emma Conpaino of Port Lavaca and Vidola Ochoa Jalomo of Bay City; two brothers, Louis Ochoa of San Leon and Jancito Longoria of Houston; numerous aunts and uncles; 41 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Thomas Flores, Abelardo Flores, Juan Tapa, Juan Carlos, Henry Longoria and Richard Ottino.

Funeral services for Guadalupe Hernandez Ochoa, 89, of Palacios, will be held at 10 a. m. Jan. 24, 1996 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Hernandez was born Sept. 11, 1906 in San Benito, Tx. She died Jan. 21, 1996. A resident of Palacios for most of her life, she lived in Galveston for a few years and returned to Palacios after the death of her husband. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church. She is survived by four children, Katherine Miranda, Rosalie O. Garza, Joe Frangullie and Olga F. Henderson (deceased); 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-[great]grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Albert Rendon III, John F. Rendon, Aza L. Guillen, Ronnie Solis, Steve Frangullie and Joseph Frangullie.

Funeral services for Joseph Ochoa, 77, were held June 27 at 10 a. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Ochoa was born August 7, 1906 and died June 25, 1984. He was the son of Felix Ochoa and Amanda Guterriz Ochoa. Survivors include his sister Mrs. Janie Harvey of Palacios and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Henry Longoria, Darell Buckley, Adam Hernandez, Tony Rojas, Arnold Maseda and Gerald Castro.

Funeral services for Lloyd Morris Olson, 71, were held April 3 at 4 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. R. Gwin and Rev. Barry Bauerschlag officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery. Olson was born July 21, 1910 in North Dakota and died March 31. He had been a resident of Palacios (Schicke Point) for 50 years and was associated with the Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Loff Olson of Palacios; one daughter, Martha Hebel of Palacios; one son, Edwin Olson of Palacios; three sisters, Vivian Harris of New London, MN. Blanche Erickson of Los Angeles, and Phyllis Norskag of Bird Island, MN; one brother, Alton Olson of Lake Lillian, MN; and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jamie Hebel, Clinton Loff, Donald Shimek, Warrie Schicke, Kenneth Peterson, Clinton Rolomn, Raymond Frankson and Earnest Schicke.

Graveside services for Elaine Oras were held at 10 a. m. Monday, May 8, at the Palacios Cemetery with Father Armand Florrizoone officiating. Daughter of Robert and Hope Marroquin Oras, she was born at Wagner General Hospital, Saturday, May 6, and lived for only eight hours. Other than her parents, she is survived by her twin sisters.

William M. Ortis, a resident of Matagorda County for 85 years died in Wagner General Hospital Saturday, July 15, after a lengthy illness. He was born April 21, 1882. Rosary was said at 7:30 p. m. Monday, July 17, at the Palacios Funeral Home. Mass was held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Tuesday, July 18 at 8:45 a. m. with the Rev. Father Jerome Stryk, of St. Peter’s Church, Blessing, officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Hodgen of Sweeny and Mrs. Francis Whitaker of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, William J. Otis and Vernia Ortis of Galveston.

Funeral services for Patricia M. Ortiz, 51, of Pasadena, were held Aug. 14 at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery. A rosary was recited Monday at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Ortiz was born March 17, 1939 in Palacios to Antonio P. and Theodora Cantu Morales and died August 11, 1990 at Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena. A resident of Pasadena for three years, she was a former long time resident of Palacios. Survivors include her father, Antonio P. Morales of San Antonio; six daughters, Theodora V. Hinojosa, Sylvia Kaizer, Rachel Valencia and Lenora Alaniz, all of Pasadena, Beatrice Villanueva and Alice Hernandez of South Houston; one son, Luis Valencia of Houston; brother, Raymond Morales of Lilburn, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services for Roy Albert Ostland were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Tuesday, September 24 at 2 p. m. with the Rev. John Brannon, of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Ostland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ostland, was born May 1, 1906 in Lincoln, Kansas. He was married to Helen Loff on September 4, 1945 and had been a resident of the Carancahua Community for 12 years. He passed away Saturday, September 21 at the Veterans Hospital in Houston. He is survived by his wife, four sisters, Mrs. Andrew Gottberg, Salina, Kansas; Mrs. E. F. Cooper, Battle Creek, Michigan; Mrs. E. L. Frevele, Lincoln, Kansas and Mrs. C. M. Lynn, Hutchinson, Kansas and one brother Leonard Ostland of Topeka, Kansas.

Palacios—Eufemia A. Ottino, 68, of Palacios, died Monday, July 10, 2000. She was born March 20, 1932, in Raisin, to the late Margarito and Bartola Mesa Alvarado. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Survivors: daughters, Sylvia Garcia, Mary P. Mrs. Patricia B. Ottino, a resident of Palacios for 46 years, died Sunday, March 7, at Wagner General Hospital. She was born in San Pedro, Texas, on May 24, 1898, a daughter of Toridio and Francisca Menoza Bentran. Rosary was recited at the Palacios Funeral Home at 8 p. m. Monday, March 8. Requiem mass was held Tuesday, March 9, at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Armond Florizoone officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Victor Ottino of Palacios; two daughters, Mary Louise Ramirez of Port Lavaca and Viola Duran of Palacios; two sons, John M. and Richard V. Ottino of Palacios; twenty-three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Victor Ottino, a retired fisherman, passed away suddenly Wednesday, March 7, at his home at 813 Humphrey. Rosary was recited at the Palacios Funeral Home Friday, March 9, at 8 p. m. Requiem Mass was held at 10 a. m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Armand Florizoone officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. A resident of Palacios for 56 years, he was born February 15, 1897, in Corpus Christi, a son of the late Juan and Paula Ottino. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, two years to the day, on March 7, 1971. He is survived by two sons, John and Richard Ottino of Palacios; two daughters, Mrs. Yameal Ramirez of Port Lavaca and Mrs. Robert Duran of Palacios; one sister, Mrs. Fidela Kouches of Freeport; one brother, John Ottino of Bay City; 23 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
