The funeral of Mrs. C. P. Mims was held Tuesday afternoon, in the Methodist church, services were conducted by Rev. F. G. Clark. Mrs. Mims had been ill for several weeks with flu and relapsed, from which she never recovered. Medical aid and all kindness and attention were given by friends, neighbors, nurses and loved ones. Mrs. Mims, nee Lizzie A. Marsh, was born in Burr Oak, Iowa, March 1, 1867 and died March 18, 1929. She became a Christian at the age of 13, and throughout her years always lived a consistent, useful Christian life. She taught school successfully in Kansas, Iowa, California, and Texas, and married Mr. G. P. Mims in Palacios, Texas, in 1911, who preceded her in death last Oct. Mrs. Mims was a lovable Christian woman, a kind neighbor, a true friend, a faithful wife and loyal to her loved ones. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. W. H. Hathaway, of California, one brother, Elmer Marsh, of Pangburn, Ark., and three step-sons, John, Ben and George Mims. Funeral services for Ruby Hayes Mims, 79, of Bay City will be held 11 a. m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. L. C. Cunningham. Burial will be at Palacios Cemetery. Visitation is this afternoon. There will be a wake at the chapel of Green’s Mortuary 7 to 9 p. m. today. The body will lie in state 10 to 11 a. m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Mims was born July 27, 1913 to D. H. and Martha Whitley Hayes and she died Nov.28, 1992 at Hermann Hospital in Houston. She was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include two sisters, Frankie M. Hasley of Houston and Gussie Jones of Palacios and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Minich were held at 10 a. m. Monday, May 14, at the Palacios Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Connolly officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Power, she was born on July 7, 1886 in Milmine, Illinois. A resident of Palacios for 21 years, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Funeral services for Orlando Miranda, 15 of Bay City, were held Dec. 2 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Orlando Miranda was born Oct. 22, 1976 in Bay City to Dalia Galvez and Arthur G. Miranda, Sr. He died Nov. 28, 1991 at Hermann Hospital in Houston. He was a student at Bay City High School. Services were held July 5, 1989 for Joe Mireles of Palacios who died July 3 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Victoria. Rev. Joe Pham officiated at the ceremony at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and at the burial at Palacios Cemetery. A Rosary was said Tuesday night at the Palacios Funeral Home. Mireles was born December 17, 1907 at Brownsville, Texas to Pedro Mireles and Rosa Gomez. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served in the U. S. Army during World War II and retired from Alcoa after 23 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Reyes Telles Mireles of Palacios; a daughter, Mary Rose Thrulkill of Port Lavaca; a son, Joe L. Mireles of Port Lavaca; sister, Jesus Maseda of Port Lavaca, Teresa Valdez of Beeville; and four grandchildren. Interment will be at Palacios Cemetery. Rosary is 7:30 p. m. Friday at the Palacios Funeral Home. Mrs. Mireles was born July 16, 1914 in Laredo to the late Luis and Cecelia Rivera Tellez. She died Sept. 19, 1997 at Methodist Hospital in Houston. She was resident of Palacios since 1919, a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She is survived by daughter: Mary Rose Thurlkill of Palacios; son and daughter-in-law: Joe Louis and Gayle Ann Acosta Mireles of Port Lavaca and five grandchildren Carlos M. Thurlkill, Christopher A. Funeral services for Othel O. Mixon were held at 2 p. m. Sunday, October 13, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Rayford Harris officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Son of William Hugh and Tidy Mae Cline Mixon, he was born October 23, 1906, in Navasota, Texas. He died at 12:30 p. m. Friday, October 11, in Wagner General Hospital. A retired employee of Sun Oil Company and Owner and operator of the Enco Service station, he had been a resident of Palacios for 22 years. He resided at 1111 Second Street. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church. Funeral services for Floyd A. Mize were held Monday afternoon at 2 p. m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Lyons officiating. Interment followed in the Palacios Cemetery. A resident of this community for the past thirty years, he was born October 2, 1893 in Madisonville, Texas, the son of Ophelia Brown and C. H. Mize. He was found dead, sitting in his pickup at the Richman Ranch, Saturday evening, April 9. He is survived by his wife, Otha Corinne Mize of Palacios; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Mize of Corpus Christi, three daughters, Otha Floyd Allphin and Margie Nell Allphin of Corpus Christi and Corinne Mize of Palacios; five sons, Bennie C. Mize of Wallis; Lee A. Mize and Charles R. Mrs. Otha C. Mize, a resident of Palacios for 43 years, died Friday May 11, at Wagner General Hospital. Mrs. Mize, daughter of Benjamin B. and Otha G. Perry Gabbert, was born December 6, 1898, in Brady, Texas. Funeral services were held at the Trinity Baptist Church, of which she was an active member, Saturday, May 12, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, with the Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. She was laid to rest in Palacios Cemetery beside her husband, the late Floyd Mize. Survivors include three daughters, Corinne Connelly of Houston, Otha Floyd Allthin and Margie Nell Allthin of Corpus Christi; five sons, Bennie C. Mize of Wallis, Lee A. Mize of Cuero, Jim A. Mize of Victoria, Oran D. Mize of San Antonio and Charles R. Mize of Palacios; three sisters, Mabel L. Edna—Alta Mae Byers Bishop Moore, 87, of Edna, and formerly of Palacios, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000. She was born Oct. 4, 1912, in Henderson County, to the late Granville Marcus and Mollie Pearl Reed Byers. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. Survivors: daughters, Edwina Fenner, Bobbie Burditt and Mary Brown, all of Edna and Charlene Rigdon of San Antonio; sons, Clarence Bishop of San Antonio and Kenneth Bishop of South Padre Island; sister, Ann Charnetski of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; 24 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: husbands, Ernest “Eddie” Bishop and Charlie Moore; son, Ernest Howard Bishop; parents; sisters, Opal Williams and Edith Harris; brothers, Thurman Byers and R. C. Byers. The death messenger entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Moore early Tuesday morning and took from them their only child. Ara, their infant daughter, aged seven months and twenty-one days. The child had not been well, but its condition was not considered at all alarming, but it was found dead in bed when the parents awoke early Tuesday morning, its death having been caused from strangulation resulting from a severe cold. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock conducted by Rev. Israel, pastor of the Baptist Church, and were attended by relatives of the family and a large number of sympathizing friends and neighbors. Immediately following the funeral the little one was laid to rest in the city cemetery. Out of town relatives who were in attendance were Mrs. Kate Moore, of Bay City, mother of Mr. Moore; and Mr. S. S. Moore, Mrs. Addie Phillips and Miss Gladys Moore, brother and sisters of Mr. Moore, also from Bay City, and Mr. W. T. Gray, of El Campo, an uncle of Mrs. Moore. The remains of Mrs. W. A. (Ashby) Moore who died at Edinburg, Texas, on February 18, arrived on this morning’s early Missouri Pacific train and were conveyed to the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Fullingim. This afternoon at 2 o’clock religious services were held at the Fullingim home after which the body was conveyed to Palacios, her former home, for burial. Mrs. Moore, who was Miss Bertha Henderson, was born at Rogers August 13, 1892 and died at Edinburg, Feb. 18, 1931. She is survived by her husband, W. A. Florence D. Moore, died at her home in this city, Sept. 10, 1936, at 5:30 a. m. She was born in Greenville, Texas, Oct. 2, 1876 and was 59 years, 9 months and 8 days old. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Moore, who preceded her in death, and the family had lived here some 33 years. The deceased was a member of the Baptist Church, having accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior some 43 years ago. It was her desire to see others accept her Christ. She had taught school in this and adjoining counties many years, and was a member of Woodman Circle Grove #1074. She is survived by two brothers, Byron T. Moore, of Houston, and Rose B. Moore, of Shreveport, La., two sisters, Mrs. B. P. English, Rosharon, and Mrs. Fred H. Sanders, Palacios. Eight nieces, one nephew and two grand nieces. H. L. Moore, who died in this city Friday, August 1 at 2:15 A. M., was born in Iowa, October 19, 1858, moving to Missouri with his parents when quite young and where he grew to manhood. He was twice married and six children were born to the first marriage, five of whom are still living. In 1906 he was married to Mrs. Luella Peterson at Enid, Okla., who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Moore came to Palacios from Oklahoma in 1913, and Mr. Moore soon became known as an expert brick-mason also paper hanger and many of our buildings stand as evidence of his work. About a year and a half ago Mr. Moore’s began to fail and a change of climate was suggested, hoping it would be beneficial. Sixteen months were spent in New Mexico, where he and Mrs. Moore traveled and visited. Two weeks ago they returned to Palacios and Mr. Moore was planning to soon be able to return to his work, purchasing quite a lot of new brushes, etc. It was known he was not well, yet his death was unexpected and a shock to all. The deceased had been a member of the Baptist church since early in life and was very true to its faith and teachings. Funeral services were held in the B. Y. P. U. grounds Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. a. Derrick, pastor of the Baptist church at New Gulf, assisted by Rev. Carroll Be. Ray of the First Baptist Church. James B. Moore was born at White Plains, Kentucky, on Feb. 7, 1851, and died, enroute home from his daughter’s Mrs. H. M. Sanders of Montgomery, at Willis, Texas. 3:41 a. m. on April 28, 1918. He was the youngest child of James and Adeline Moore and came to Greenville, Texas, with his parents in 1874. In 1875 he was married to Miss Susan D. Moore, and to this union were born nine children, four of whom preceded their father to the Great Beyond. At an early age Mr. Moore was converted and lived a truly Christian life up until his death. He was a sufferer for many years but was never heard to murmur or complain of his lot. He has lived in Palacios for the past twelve years and has many friends here who learned to love him because of his goodness. He leaves to mourn his death a loving wife and five children, Mrs. B. P. English, of Willows, Cal.; Roscoe B. Moore, of Sacramento, Cal.; Mrs. F. H. Sanders, Montgomery, Tex.; Byron T. Moore, of Shreveport, La., and Miss Florence Moore of Palacios. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the city cemetery conducted by Rev. Ammons of the Baptist church. Mrs. Susan Demarious Moore, who died at her home in this city Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 25 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 19 days, was born October 6, 1859 in Hunt County, Texas. She was the youngest of four children of whom she is the last to pass away. She was united in marriage to J. B. Moore of White Plains, Ky., November 6, 1875. To this union nine children were born of whom five survive: Byron T. Moore, Houston; Roscoe B. Moore, Shreveport, La.; Mrs. B. P. English, Rosharon, Texas; Mrs. F. H. Sanders, Montgomery, Texas; Miss Florence Moore of Palacios, Texas, and nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Moore accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour thirty three years ago and united with the Baptist Church at Rosenberg, Texas, of which church she was a member until she moved her membership to the First Baptist Church of Palacios, Texas. She had been an invalid for a number of years during which time her daughter was a constant companion and devoted nurse. By her request funeral services were held at the grave, conducted by Rev. George D. McClelland, pastor of the First Baptist Church, on Wednesday afternoon, and interment made in the Palacios cemetery under the direction of the Walker-Matchett Funeral Home of Bay City. Mrs. Morales was born August 20, 1913 in Mexico and died June 14, 1988 at Bayou Glen Nursing Home in Houston. Survivors include a son, Indalecio M. Olvera, Jr. of Houston; a sister, Lorenza Alamia of Palacios; brother, Agapito Morales of Palacios; step sons, Robert and Carlos Torres; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Antonio “Tony” Morales, 38 [59?], of Bay City died May 13, 1996. He was born in Palacios on Feb. 15, 1937 and worked for Arnold’s Seafood in Bay City as a commercial fisherman. Morales was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios. He is survived by his wife Mary Whiddon-Morales of Bay City; one son Juan “Joe” Morales of Bay City; one sister Angie Carrillo of Palacios and five brothers Florencio Morales, Marcello Morales, Frank Morales and Thomas Morales all of Palacios and Manuel Morales of Corpus Christi. He is preceded in death by his parents Juan Morales and Mercedes Alvarz Morales. Visitation will take place after 5 p. m. Friday, May 17 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church is Palacios. A rosary will follow at 7:30 p. m. at the church. Funeral mass will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Fr. Casimir Jarzombek officiating.
