Miss Emily Maria Margerum was born June 14, 1892 in Middletown, Ohio. She left the teaching profession at the age of 79, having dedicated the last five years of that time to teaching students with learning disabilities. The news of the death of Willard Margerum in Freeport Sunday came as a shock to many of our citizens who were not aware of his serious illness. Willard Aaron Margerum was born to Robert W. Margerum and Naomi Wilborn Margerum at Palacios, November 5, 1920. On August 5, 1940 he married Miss Dorothy Jean Bridges and to this union was born one little daughter, Laura Jean. Besides his father and mother, his own helpmate and daughter he is survived by his grandmother, Mrs. S. W. Margerum of Palacios, and his brother, Robert Carroll Margerum, who is at present an aviation cadet in Austin, and his three sisters, Dorothy Olive, Evelyn Fae, and Hattie Jean Margerum of Houston. These together with other relatives and friends lament his early going. Willard spent the greater part of his life in Palacios, having gone to school here and been converted and baptized into the Baptist Church while yet a young man. He followed in general the trade of his father, that of a carpenter, and had been a member of the union of that trade for several years. He had been working in the trade for the defense of our country for some months at Freeport. One of the outstanding characteristics of Willard was his happy mood even under the most trying circumstances and he refused to be pessimistic even about his own serious condition. Funeral services were held in the Palacios Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock conducted by Rev. L. W. Crouch and burial made in the Palacios Cemetery under the direction of the Palacios Funeral Home.
