W. H. Lawson was born in Arkansas Feb. 5, 1856, came to Texas with his parents, who settled in Hays County when he was ten years of age. On November 4, 1877 he was married to Miss Augusta Turley of Travis County, near Austin. To this union was born five children, four sons and one daughter, all living but the latter, who died about twenty years ago. Mr. Lawson moved with his family to Palacios twenty-five years ago, when it was only a little village on the prairie beside the sea. He was interested in many of the things that helped to develop Palacios and saw it grow from a town of one store into one of many good sized business houses, and made this his home until about three years ago. When 16 years of age he was converted to the Baptist Church. Mr. Lawson and wife had made their home with their son, Leroy and family at Taft, the past two years, and it was there that he suffered a stroke of paralysis, just eleven months to the day before he died. His right side was totally paralyzed and he was confined to his bed during the entire time. He was conscious the greater portion of the time but had been speechless for several months. He passed away at 4 a. m. on Sept. 26, 1928 Funeral services were held in the undertaking parlors at Taft, after which the remains accompanied by relatives and a large number of friends were taken to Sinton from which place they were shipped to Blessing. Here the funeral party was met by other relatives and friends and came to Palacios where burial was made in the city cemetery, Thursday evening. Services were conducted at the grave by Rev. J. A. Derrick of the First Baptist Church and Rev. G. F. Gillespie of the Presbyterian Church. To the bereaved wife and sons, Elmo, of Alice; Gordon, of Houston; LeRoy, of Taft; and Grover of this city, we join their many friends in extending deepest sympathy.
