Funeral services for Donald Arthur King of Longview were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Sunday, January 21, at 4 p. m. with the Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Born July 27, 1968, in Palacios, he was the son of Donald Lee and Mary Jane Jenkins King. He passed away Saturday, January 20 in the Polk County Hospital in Livingston. Besides his parents he is survived by one sister, Denise Lanell King; paternal grandparents, Arthur L. King and Velma King of Rose Vine, Texas; and maternal grandparents, Lee Jenkins and Myrtle Jenkins of Palacios.

Funeral services for Fred Allen King, 48, of Palacios, were held April 1, 1995 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. A Rosary was held March 31 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. King was born Sept. 18, 1946 in Carnegie, Okla. to Fred Robert and Frances Wick King. He died March 30, 1995 at his residence. A member of the Catholic Church, Mrs. King was a commercial shrimper and had been a resident of Palacios since 1950. He was a member of the Texas Shrimpers Association. He is survived by his wife, Dollie Bram King of Palacios; his mother, Frances Dornak of Lake Jackson; a daughter, Michelle King of Palacios; a son, Allen King of Waco; two sisters, Jeanie Ballentine of Friendswood, Tx. and Debbie Hightower of Spring City, Tenn.; and a brother, Robert King of Palacios. Pallbearers were Tommy Beard, L. J. Brister, Donnie Harvey, Pat Jurek, Fred Harr, Tony Jurek and Jimmy Lee Jurek. Honorary pallbearers were Garry Seaman, Nelo Seaman, Craig Wallis, Keith Wallis, Howard Barker, Hoot Gibson, Quinten Seaman, nephews Craig King and Kevin King, and brothers-in-law Scott Bram and K. R. Bram. The Family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Fred. R. King were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Tuesday, April 24, at 10 a. m. with the Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. A resident of Palacios for 25 years, he was born December 6, 1920, in Singer, Texas, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry King. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Army. He passed away Sunday, April 22, at 2 p. m. in the VA Hospital in Houston after a lengthy illness. Survivors include his wife, Frances; two daughters, Deborah King and Emelie Jean Thompson; two sons, Fred Allen King; all of Palacios and Robert Wayne King of Del Rio; three sisters, Mrs. Ray Shackleford, Mrs. Floyd Shackleford, and Mrs. Emner Fox all of Oklahoma; one brother, Joe King of Houston and four grandchildren.

The community was shocked Sunday morning when word of the sudden death of Mrs. Hazel Dale King was received. Mrs. King, a hostess at Petersen’s Restaurant, was on a short vacation and had visited in Oklahoma and was enroute to Sulphur Springs, Texas to visit her brother when she became ill and pulled onto the shoulder of the road near Denton, where she was found dead in her car, November 30. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 3, at 2:30 p. m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Leslie E. Webb, Jr. officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Daughter of the late J. E. Byrd and Willie Wilson Byrd, she was born June 18, 1913, in Winnsboro, Texas, and had been a resident of Palacios since December 1938. She is survived by her step-mother, Mrs. Minnie Byrd of Grapeland; one daughter, Pat Burden of Port Neches; two sons, Kenny Joe King of Houston and Mickey Jim King of Okeene, Okla.; one sister, Joyce Agnes Pendergrast of Alvin; two brothers, Lynn Byrd of Colorado City, Texas; two half brothers, one half sister and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for James Elmer King, Jr., 67, will be held today (Wednesday) at the Palacios Funeral Home at 1 p. m. with Bro. Moore of the First Pentecostal Church of Bay City officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery. King was born Oct. 19 1914 and died at his residence in Deutschburg. He was a resident of Deutschburg for 43 years and was a member of the First Pentecostal Church. He owned King Mobile and Oil Co. and King Oil Co. Survivors include his wife Margaret King; daughters, Mrs. Patricia Barden of Quito, Ecuador; step-daughters Lisa Garcia of Palacios and Judy Webb of Houston; sons Mickey J. King of Portland and Kenny J. King of Houston; sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Bocks and Mrs. Wanda Siefres of New Iberia La. and Mrs. Wanda Seifres of Roswell, New Mexico; brothers, Pat R. King and W. E. King of Fort Worth and Bobby King of Burleson; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Kingsley were held Tuesday, June 24, at 4 p. m. at the Church of Christ of Palacios with Mr. W. T. Carter and Mr. N. L. Balch officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Funeral services were under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of the Bay City Funeral Home. A native of Palacios, she was born February 13, 1919 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Conner. She passed away Monday, June 24, in Wagner General Hospital. She is survived by her parents, one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Rogers and two grandchildren.

Graveside services for Ledia Frances Kirkpatrick were held in the Palacios Cemetery Friday afternoon, September 29, at 2 o’clock with Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. A daughter of the late J. W. and Laura J. McReynolds Kirkpatrick, she was born in Rockwall, Texas, on July 8, 1888. She passed away in San Antonio Monday, September 25. She is survived by one sister, Miss Mabel Kirkpatrick.

A resident of this area for approximately 30 years, she was a daughter of the late J. W. and Laura J. McReynolds Kirkpatrick. She was born January 16, 1893 in Rockwall, Texas and died January 13 in Cleburne, Texas.

Funeral services for John Burt Kitchens of Point Comfort, brother of Mrs. Ernest Tresselt, Jr. of Palacios, were held Monday, September 29, at 2 p. m. at the Rendon Funeral Chapel in Port Lavaca with the Rev. Charles Simpson of Alamo Heights Methodist Church in San Antonio officiating. Graveside services were held at the Palacios Cemetery at 4 p. m. Mr. Kitchens was born May 8, 1941, in San Angelo, the son of Lewis C. Kitchens of West Columbia and Mrs. Ted Redding of San Angelo. An employee of William Clancy Barge Co. of Dickinson, he drowned about noon Saturday while working on a barge near Dickinson. Survivors in addition to his parents and sister include three brothers, Don of Point Comfort, Jim of McAllen, Robert of Kirbyville; a half brother, William Redding serving with the U. S. Army in Germany and three step brothers, Marion Madding of San Angelo, Jack Sophia of Brazoria and E. J. Sophia of Lake Jackson.

Funeral services for Edward J. Knapp, 78, were held Aug. 24 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R. H. Zumat officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery. Knapp, a retired oil field worker, was born May 9, 1895 in Bastrop County and died Aug. 22 at Wagner General Hospital. He was a resident of Leisure Lodge and had been a resident of this area since 1932. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ellen Rooks, Ardine Ryman, Caudell (Covey) Tweedle and Analee Chanik, all of Bay City; one son, E. J. Knapp of Edna; four sisters, Eder Benight of Elgin, Missie Knapp, Trudie Curtis and Allie Mae Freeman, all of Austin; one brother, James Knapp of Austin; 25 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren and 28 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charlie Rooks, Cecil Rooks, Willie Strelig, Lee Strelig, Tommy Joe Chanik and Raymond Tweedle.

Funeral services for Daniel D Kobbe, Sr., 85, of Palacios, were held Sept. 29, 1992 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Kobbe was born July 2, 1907 in New York City to Phillip and Mary Washington Kobbe. He died Sept. 28 1992 at a nursing home in Sweeny. A Navy veteran of World War II, he had been a resident of Palacios for the past 14 years and was a daughter of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Mr. Kobbe is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Lawrence Laskoskie of Richmond, Tex.; a son, Daniel D. Kobbe, Jr. of Palacios; and grandsons Christopher David and James Patrick Kobbe of Austin, Tex. He was preceded in death by his wife, Benita E. Kobbe on Nov. 19, 1989.

Requiem Mass for Adolph Koch was held Monday, October 12 at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Harrold officiating. Interment followed in Palacios Cemetery. Born August 8, 1892 in Cuero, Texas, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Koch, he died Saturday, October 10, in a Ganado hospital following a lengthy illness. Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae Koch of Palacios; one daughter, Mrs. H. D. Burns of Port Neches; three sons, Freddy of Vidor, Ernest of Beaumont and Herbert of La Ward; two sisters, Tressa Jaines [Theresa Joines] and Lema Koch of Beaumont; two brothers, John of Palacios and Bill of Beaumont and eight grandchildren.

La Ward—Mrs. Annie Mae Koch, 85, of LA Ward died Sunday in a Ganado rest home. A rosary will be recited at 7:45 p. m. Monday in the Jackson County Funeral Service Chapel in Edna. Services will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday in the Ganado Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. John Bily officiating. Burial will be in the Palacios City Cemetery. Mrs. Koch was born May 2, 1895 in DeWitt County. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Adella Burns, of Beaumont, two sons, Ernest Koch of Lumberton and Freddie Koch of Vidor; a sister, Mrs. Tillie Bumgarden of Del Rio; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Bertha Pearl Koch, 88, were held Saturday, August 10, 1991 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eugene Davis officiating. Interment followed at the Palacios Cemetery Mrs. Koch was born May 4, 1903 in Angelina County to Ernest William Foster and Della Elizabeth Scarborrough. She died August 8, 1991 at the Coastal Health Care Center in Port Lavaca. She was a resident of Port Lavaca for the past six years, a member of the Olivia community from 1974 to 1985 and a former long time resident of Palacios. She was a member of Francitas Baptist Church. Mrs. Koch was preceded in death by her late husband John Koch and two sons, Ernest and Robert Koch. She is survived by three daughters, Ruby Parrish of Olivia, Pearl Bozeman of Sweeny and Lydia Cheatham of Beaumont; one son, Johnny Koch of Palacios; nine grand children; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. John Koch, he was born in LaWard on February 7, 1926 and died Saturday, June 10, in Luling where he was visiting. He was an employee of Aluminum Company of America, Point Comfort Operations. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Raye Koch, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Koch, two sons, David Lee Koch and James Lowell Koch, all of Palacios; three sisters, Pearl Bozeman of Sweeny, Ruby Parrish of Port Alto, Lydia Carvell of Beaumont and two brothers, Robert Koch and Johnny Koch, of Palacios.

Funeral services for Cassie Launa Koenig, 68, of Palacios, will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at Palacios Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Boykin officiating. Burial will be in Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Koenig was born July 24, 1916, to R. T. and Allie R. Williams Ezell in Maydelle, Texas, and died June 4, 1985, at Wagner General Hospital, Palacios. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Robert Swain Koenig of Palacios; a daughter, Judy Ethridge of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Raye McDonald of Rusk, Texas, and Wilma Johnson of Palacios; three brothers, M. E. Ezell of Rusk, R. L. Ezell of Jacksonville, Texas, and E. T. Ezell of Matagorda; and one grandchild. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Palacios.

Funeral services for Eddie Fritz “Sarge” Koopman, 69, of Palacios were held Oct. 11, 1995 at the Palacios Funeral Chapel with Rev. Karl M. Choate officiating. Burial was in Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Koopman was born Oct. 14, 1925 in Warrenton, Tx. to Henry John and Olga Arndt Koopman. He died Oct. 8, 1995 at Wagner General Hospital in Palacios. A resident of Palacios for 24 years, he was a member of the Lutheran Church, a member of V. F. W. Post 2467 and a retired Staff Sgt. from the U. S. Army. Mr. Koopman is survived by his wife, Dollie Williams Koopman of Palacios; a son, Eddie J. Koopman of Hagerstown, Md; four step-daughters, Illa Jalufka of Palacios, Martha Seaman of Bayou LaBatre, Ala., Wanda Gonzales of Galveston, and Dottie Epperson of Galveston; two sisters, Coralee Highsmith of LaGrange, Tx. and Henrietta Dooley of Katy, Tx.; eight step-grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Koopman. Pallbearers were Roy Kelly, Augustine Gonzales, John Jalufka, Ricky Milam, Gary Hunter and Gerald Highsmith. Honorary pallbearers included Daniel Gonzales III, Edward Jalufka Jr., Gilbert Epperson, Edward L. Seaman Jr., and all VFW comrades.
