Dora Cole

Mrs. Dora Cole, a native of Palacios, died at 7 a. m. Thursday at her home in Corpus Christi.

Rosary was recited at the Palacios Funeral home Chapel Friday, April 23, at 7:30 p. m.

A funeral mass was held at 10 a. m. Saturday, April 24, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Brian Crookes officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Born here on November 14, 1911, she was the daughter of Lazaros and Sophia Frangullie. She was a member of the Catholic Church and had been a resident of Corpus Christi for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert M. Cole of Corpus Christi, one daughter, Mrs. John V. Ottino of El Campo; three sisters, Mrs. Tony Flores of Palacios, Mrs. Katie Willibe and Mrs. Olga Henderson of Galveston; two brothers, George Frangullie of Palacios and one granddaughter, Debbie Ottino of Houston.

Herbert Miles Cole

Graveside funeral services for Herbert Miles Cole, 85, of Palacios, were held May 13, 1999 at the Palacios Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Evans officiating.

Mr. Cole was born May 23, 1913 in Vanceburg, Kentucky to the late Thomas and Gertrude Burch Cole. He died May 10, 1999.

Mr. Cole was a member of the Nazarene Church and served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was a resident of Palacios for 45 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary T. Cole of Palacios and a sister, Agnes Landers of Alabama.

Marvin P. Cole

Funeral services for Marvin P. Cole, 66, of Palacios were held Thursday at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Shan Jackson officiating. Burial followed at the Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Cole was born April 16, 1925, to Monroe and Minnie Nicholas Cole in Porter, Okla., and died August 27, 1991 at Wagner General Hospital.

He retired in 1985 after serving 30 years with Tennaco, Inc. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Cole of Palacios; two daughters, Diane Anderson of El Campo and Wanda Ledford of Corpus Christi; six sons, Marvin E. Cole of Round Rock, Eddie J. Cole of Clyde, Gerald W. Cole of Hamland, Larry D. Cole of Houston and Horace L. Cook and Danny G. Cook, both of Texarkana; a sister, Alma Hands of Guthrie, Okla.; two brothers, Miles Cole of Palacios and Morland Cole of Denton; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Melba J. Cole

Graveside services for Melba J. Cole, 76, of Texarkana, Tx. were held March 6, 2004 at Palacios Cemetery with Bro. Shan Jackson officiating. Mrs. Cole was born April 28, 1927 in Simms, Tx. She died March 3, 2004 at St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana. A former longtime resident of Palacios, she was a member of the Rorem Street Church of Christ in Palacios. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Jane Cook, and Horace and Mary Jo Cook, both of Texarkana; a sister, Margie Frazier of Tyler, Tx; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, M. P. Cole.

Vernon Avon Cole

Vernon Avon Cole, aged 16 months, 15 days, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Cole, died at the home of her parents last night at 8:15, after an illness of two weeks. The funeral will be held in Palacios tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock.

Vernon was Mr. and Mrs. Cole’s only child and his death comes as the keenest blow that could have visited them. Their many friends cannot assuage the grief, but they can and do extend their deepest sympathy.

Mrs. Bobbie Collins Killed in Car Accident

Funeral services for Mrs. Bobby Ruth Brown Collins will be held at the Palacios Funeral Home Thursday, November 22, at 3:30 p. m. with the Rev. N. F. Dunning, pastor of the Church of God, officiating. Interment will be in the Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. Collins, 15, of El Maton died Tuesday morning when she lost control of the 1956 Pontiac she was driving. The accident occurred about 2.4 miles west of Bay City.

Mrs. Collins, the eighth traffic fatality of the year for Matagorda County, was driving alone towards Bay City when the car left the road and went into a ditch, as she tried to pull out of the ditch the car struck a tree. She received a broken leg and severe head injuries. The car was completely demolished.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley Collins, and her mother, Mrs. E. Ledwig of El Maton.

Collins Services Sunday – Fannie Ella Collins

Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie Ella Collins were held Sunday, Sept. 2, at 2 p. m. at the Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Van Dickens and Rev. T. E. Bradley officiating.

Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

A native of Ellis County, Tex. she was born Sept. 15, 1895, the daughter of Elijah Hall Burns and Docia Eiann Erwin Burns. A resident of Palacios for 23 years, she resided at 208 Commerce St.

She was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She passed away at 3 a. m. Friday, August 31, at Wagner General Hospital.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Emma Walker of Bay City and Mrs. Mattie Sanders of Palacios; two sons, Wesley Collins of Port Lavaca and Claude Collins of Palacios; one sister, Mrs. Sally Kidd of Bay City; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Harry Collins

Funeral services for Harry Collins, 75, of Houston, will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City (time not determined as of press time). Interment will be in Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Collins was born May 17, 1930 to Cynthia Collins in Caney Creek, Tx. He died Jan. 13, 2006 in Houston.

He was a long-time resident of Palacios, as well as well known and respected mechanic in the community.

He is survived by sons Harold Collins of California, Danny and Ray Collins of Palacios, and Robert Collins of Lake Jackson, Tx.; daughters Equella Collins-Goodal of Palacios and Nel Collins of Lake Jackson, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Collins, and a daughter, Darlene Collins.

Harry Collins

BAY CITY - Harry Collins, 75, of Bay City, and formerly of Palacios, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006.

He was born May 17, 1930, in Bay City.

Survivors: daughters, Equella Goodall of Palacios and Nell Edwards of Bristol, Conn.; sons, Bobby Collins of Clute, Harold Collins of Pamona, Calif., and Ray Collins and Danny Collins, both of Palacios; and 14 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Agape Sanctuary in Palacios, the Rev. Eric Young officiating.

Henry Collins

Funeral services for Henry Collins, Palacios, were held Saturday, March 2, 2002, at 1 p. m. at West Palacios Church of God of Prophecy in Palacios, with pastor Roosevelt Ellis presiding, and Elder Eric Young, eulogist. Burial followed at Palacios Cemetery.

Survivors include: son, Henry Collins, III of Houston; five brothers and a host of other relatives.

Henry Collins

PALACIOS -- Henry Collins, 68, of Palacios, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002.

He was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Collegeport, to Cynthis Collins and Andy Campbell. He was a retired diesel mechanic for Alcoa and Dow Chemical Companies.

Survivors: son, Henry Collins, III of Houston; brothers, Harry Collins and Rev. Myron Campbell, both of Houston, Andy Campbell, III. of Los Angeles, Calif., Carrol Campbell of Charlotte, N.C. and Ernest Campbell of Paramount, Calif.

Visitation will be 9 p.m. tonight at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 1 p.m. at West Palacios Church of God of Prophecy, the Rev. Roosevelt Ellis and Elder Eric Young, officiating. Burial will be at Palacios Cemetery. Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, Bay City.

Death of J. M. Collins

Mr. J. M. Collins, who was employed as night watchman in the railroad yards here, died at the Houston sanitarium Tuesday night from abscess of the brain, having been taken to that institution for treatment last week. The remains were shipped to Palacios Wednesday and funeral services were held at the family home at the corner of Welch ave., and 6th street immediately after the arrival of the train. The services were conducted by Rev. Israel, pastor of the Baptist church, followed by the interment at the city cemetery. He leaves a wife to mourn his loss, and who has the sincere sympathy of the entire community.

Nettie Sue Collins

Graveside services for Nettie Sue Collins, 73, of Port Lavaca, formerly of Palacios, were held March 7, 2005 at Palacios Cemetery with Rev. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Mrs. Collins was born Feb. 22, 1932 in Lyfort, Tx. to the late Eddie and Lula Mae Mayes Hall. She died March 4, 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Everett of Lockhart Tx.; son, Danny Ray Tumblinson of Humble, Tx; sister, Geraldine Hagens of San Antonio; and brother, Leslie Hall of Bedias. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Collins; and sisters, Jody Gunther, Mable Tumblinson, and Janice Stanley.

Wesley H. Collins

Funeral services for Wesley Hall Collins, 57, of Olivia will be held today (Wednesday) at 10 a. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery.

Collins was born March 16, 1924 in Palacios and died March 7 at his residence in Olivia. He was retired from Alcoa and had lived in Olivia since 1937. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Collins is survived by his wife, Nettie Hall Collins of Olivia; two sisters, Mattie Sanders of Palacios and Mrs. Emma Walker of Bay City; and one brother, Claude G. Collins Jr. of Palacios.

Clarence Fred Conner

Funeral services of Brother Clarence Fred Conner were held Saturday, December 22, at 10 a. m. in the Palacios Church of Christ with the Bro. N. E. Balch officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

A retired minister of the Church of Christ, having served in Palacios, Boling, Olivia and Port O’Connor, he died Thursday, December 20, in Wagner General Hospital.

He is survived by one sister, Bessie Bixter of Mesquite; granddaughter, Hazel Rogers, two great grandchildren, Rechelle and Rhonda Rogers, all of Palacios.

Hazel F. Conner

Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel F. Conner were held Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 2 p. m. at the Church of Christ of Palacios with George Fare of Wharton and Nolan E. Balch officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Dick Elkins of the Bay City Funeral Home.

Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Frame, she was born in Kansas on Nov. 19, 1887, and moved to Palacios in 1918. She married Fred Conner and to this union one daughter was born, Gertrude, who preceded her mother in death on June 24 of this year.

Mrs. Conner passed away Sunday, Sept. 22. She is survived by her husband, one granddaughter, Mrs. Hazel Rogers and two great grandchildren.

Philip Connis

Funeral services for Philip "Phil" Connis, 66, of Palacios, were held Nov. 26, 1995 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Connis was born May 6, 1929 in Elmira, N. Y. to Charlie and Ethel Thomson Connis. He died Nov. 23, 1995 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

A member of the Methodist Church, he had been a resident of Palacios for 23 years and owner of Phil's Shellarama in Palacios since 1973. He and his wife, Pam, received the Palacios Chamber of Commerce's Merchant of the Year Award in 1986.

Mr. Connis is survived by his wife, Palma "Pam" Connis of Palacios; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine "Chris" and Bob Kunefke of Palacios; a brother, Wally Connis of Pennsylvania; and a granddaughter, Nicole Kunefke of Palacios.

Pallbearers were Leonard Lamar, Bob Christianson, Eric Carpenter, Armando Garza, Donald Kelly Jr., and Dale Porter.

Guadalupe H. “Lupita” Constancio

Funeral services were held Sunday Sept. 22, 1991 for Guadalupe H. Constancio, 81, of Palacios at the Palacios Funeral Home, the Rev. Tony Flores officiating. Burial followed in the Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. Constancio was born July 16, 1910, in San Marcos to the late Brigido G. and Faustina Ramos Solis Hernandez. She died in a local hospital Sept. 19, 1991.

She was former owner and operator of Lupita’s Café & Bar in Palacios. Mrs. Constancio was a member of the Church of God Prophecy and had lived in Palacios since 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband, Trinidad Brown Constancio, in 1953.

She is survived by one daughter, Rosie C. Sanchez of Dallas; three sons, Edward, Trinidad and Jesse Constancio, all of Palacios; three sisters, Elvira S. Martino of Palacios, Caroline S. Hernandez and Gloria G. Sotelo, both of Del Rio; two brothers, Santana S. and Presiliano Hernandez, both of Del Rio; 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons Gary, Rudy, Jaime, Louis and Roland Constancio and Michael Rodriquez served as pallbearers.

Trinidad "Nito" Constancio III

PALACIOS - Trinidad "Nito" Constancio III, 62, of Palacios, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008. He was born on Dec. 30, 1945, in Del Rio, to the late Trinidad Constancio Jr. and Guadalupe Hernandez-Constancio. He was a member of The Living Word Church.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served his country as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the following decorations and citations: two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Cross of Gallantry. He had been a member of the Palacios High School State Champion Football Team.

He is survived by his daughters, Sara Trevino and Martha Valdez of Palacios; his son, Jaime Constancio of Port Aransas; his sisters, Rebecca Ottino of Palacios, Elida Valdez of San Jose, Calif., and Rosie Sanchez of Dallas; his brothers, Jesse Constancio of Palacios and Raymond Constancio of Stockton, Calif.; and his grandchildren, Jonah, Johnny Blade, Madilyn, and Jesse Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eddie Constancio and Richard Constancio.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. on Saturday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at The Living Word Church. Visitation will continue from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday at the church.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the church, with the Rev. Tony Flores officiating.

Burial will military honors under the auspices of Veterans of Foreign Wars-Queen Hamlin Post No. 2467, Palacios, will be at Palacios Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jonah Solis, Rudy Constancio, Mark Rodriguez, Samuel Constancio, Gary Constancio, Manuel Rodriguez, Jason Constancio, and Louis Anthony Martino.

Services Pending For Trino B. Constancio

Funeral services are pending for Trino B. Constancio, local café operator, who died at 4 p. m. Wednesday April 8 at his home.

Constancio was born September 1903 at Del Rio, Texas. He has lived in Palacios for 21 years. He was a Woodman.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lupe Constancio of Palacios; father Trinidad Constancio; three daughters, Rebecca, Palacios; Elida of Del Rio, and Rosaura, Palacios; four sons, Riche and Raymond of Del Rio and Trino Jr. and Jessie of Palacios, three sisters, Mary Gabriela, and Rosie, all of California; and five brothers, Frank, Nieves, Charlie, Pete, and Eddie, all living in California.

The body is at the Palacios Funeral Home.

Albino R. Contreras

Albino R. Contreras, 62, died at 4:15 Wednesday morning, April 10, in Wagner General Hospital following a long illness.

A resident of Palacios for 18 years, he was born March 1, 1912 in Saltillo, Mexico, son of Mrs. Maria H. Contreras and the late Jose Contreras.

Rosary was recited at 8:30 p. m. Thursday at Rendon Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services were held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church Friday at 9:30 a. m. with the Rev. Armand Florizoone officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Felicidad Contreras of Palacios; son, Juan Albino Contreras of Bay City; five daughters, Mrs. Lucio Auayo of Victoria, Mrs. Robert Cabarubio of Palacios, Mrs. Armonda Torres of Houston, Mrs. Saturio Palacios of Austin and Mrs.. Pete Villarreal of Pascagoula, Mississippi; brother, Jose Contreras of Midway; two sisters, Mrs. Victor Velasquez and Mrs. Gregorio Navarro of Port Lavaca and 14 grandchildren.

Jack Bryant Cook

Funeral services for Jack Bryant Cook, 11, of Lake Jackson were held Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Palacios Funeral Home chapel with Dr. W. D. Baker officiating. Burial followed at the Palacios Cemetery.

Master Cook was born May 5, 1981 in Lewisville to Kenneth and Bonnie Rowe Cook and he died Nov. 11, 1992.

He is survived by his father, Kenneth Cook of El Campo; mother, Bonnie Rowe Cook of Wharton; maternal grandmother, Russell Rowe of Wharton; paternal grandmother, Emily Harvey of Palacios and two brothers Keith and Kent Cook, both of El Campo.

Pallbearers were L. J. Brister, Aaron Brister, Elton Brister and Dickie Lang.

Services Held Saturday For Mrs. S. F. Cook – Lellah Shaw Cook

Funeral services for Mrs. S. F. (Lellah) Cook were held at 10 o’clock Saturday morning at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. John Fluth, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Shaw, she was born October 25, 1870 in Boone, Iowa. In 1893 she was united in marriage to Samuel F. Cook, who preceded her in death on June 28, 1947. To this union four children were born, namely Mrs. Fern Schulz of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Leah Holloway, Mrs. Esther Smith and Ward S. Cook all of Palacios, who with eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren survive.

Mrs. Cook moved to Palacios from Cawker City, Kansas with her late husband in 1925 and has made her home here ever since. While living in Kansas she joined the United Brethren Church, transferred to the Methodist Church after moving to Palacios. Always active until her illness of several weeks ago, she died last Thursday morning, July 4, at her home in this city.

Ward Samuel Cook

Funeral services were held Monday, August 16, at 10 a. m. in the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel for Ward Samuel Cook, a prominent businessman, who died Saturday morning, August 14, in Wagner General Hospital. Services were conducted by Rev. Leon Maxwell and interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Ward Cook was born June 7, 1908, in Cawker City, Kansas, son of the late Samuel and Lella Cook. In 1925 he moved with his parents to Palacios, graduating from the local high school. For several years he was a baker, later operated the Green Lantern Inn and for the past several years was a contractor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.

He is survived by his wife, Emily Cook of Palacios; one son, Kenneth Cook of Sands Springs, Okla.; one daughter, Kathy Cook of Palacios; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Smith of Palacios and Mrs. Fern Schultz of Long Beach, Calif. and one grandson, Keith Cook.
