Death came very suddenly early last Wednesday morning to another old citizen of Palacios, when Mrs. Sarah Lou Anders was called from this life. She was born in Erath County, Texas, Feb. 4, 1864. In early life she was married to J. B. Anders, and to them were born nine children. She also has one daughter by a former marriage. In all, five sons and five daughters all of them except one son survive her. She also has 36 grandchildren and 13 great grand children. Many years ago, she with her husband and family moved to south Texas and settled at Olivia, where for the most part, their family was reared. After the family was grown and they were growing old, they moved near Palacios, but her husband died soon after that, and for thirteen years she has lived in Palacios. Grandma Anders had just a humble little home here, but, as she said “it was good enough.” Many years ago she became a Christian, and since that time she has endeavored to obey the word of Christ. “Lay not up for yourself treasures upon the earth. . . but lay up for yourself treasures in heaven.” We sorrow when death separates us, but it is a wonderful thing that God’s children may go home. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Brandon-Duffy Funeral Home by C. F. Conner and C. E. Metcalfe. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery.

The funeral rites were held at the Brandon-Duffy Funeral Home, Rev. Metcalfe officiating. Mr. Anders had been a resident of the Carancahua community for many years. His wife preceded him in death eight years ago leaving him with five children, Vernon, Jack, Weldon and Melvin. He was an excellent father giving to his children something better than gold—a rich heritage of character. He is mourned by a host of relatives and friends. To the family we offer our sincere sympathy. We fell sure that they will carry out their father’s wishes expressed in a beautiful letter written just before his death in which he asked his sons to become noble men, and his daughter, a true and lovely woman.
