Requiem Mass for Julio Librado Alamia was held Monday, February 19, at 8 p. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Armand Florizoone officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Rosary was recited at the Palacios Funeral Home Sunday, February 18, at 7 p. m. Son of Julio and Lenora Alamia, he was born in Rockport, Texas on January 18, 1898. A retired employee of Alcoa, he had been a resident of Palacios since 1935, residing at 809 Lucas. He passed away Friday, February 16, at Wagner General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Margarita Alamia of Palacios; six daughters, Mrs. Tony Rodriguez, Mrs. Manuel Morales, Mrs. William Rodriguez, all of Palacios, Mrs. Wilburt Burger, Mrs. Allen Hebert and Mrs. Carol Hebert of Lafayette, La.; five sons, Octavio Alamia and Julio L. Alamia, Jr. of Palacios, Gontran Alamia of Port Lavaca, Arthur and Eli Alamia of Pasadena; one sister, Mrs. Ilasiro Asocar of Corpus Christi; 43 grandchildren including Tony Pardo and Jimmy Rodriguez of Palacios and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held January 14, 1989, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for Margarita Alamia of Palacios who had passed away January 11. Rev. Gerard Cernoch officiated at the ceremony. A Rosary was said Friday evening at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel and interment was at the Palacios Cemetery. Margarita Alamia was born of Marcelino Asocar and Chona Comacho on October 18, 1902 in Port Lavaca and moved to Palacios shortly thereafter. She leaves five daughters: Lupe Rodriguez of Palacios, Didia Morales of Victoria, Olivia Roung, Dona Hebert and Ellen Hebert, all of Carencro, Louisiana and Angelita Rodriguez of Port Lavaca; five sons, Octavio Alamia and Julio Alamia, Jr., both of Palacios, Gontran Alamia of Victoria, Elojio Alamia of Pasadena, and Arturo Alamia of Houston; two sisters, Janie Ramos of Victoria and Nacha Asocar of Bay City; one brother Raymon Asocar of Victoria; forty-two grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Edmond Hebert, Abel Anthony Lucio, Anthony Pardo, Mario Rodriguez, Richard Alamia, Ismael Rodriguez.

Palacios—Octavio Asocar Alamia, 78, of Palacios, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001. He was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Gulf, to the late Julio and Marguerita Asocar Alamia. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving in World War II and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Survivors: wife, Lorenza Morales Alamia; daughters, Estella Alamia and Alfa Flores, both of Palacios and Amparo Brangan of San Antonio; step-daughters, Mary Duran of Palacios and Isabel Garcia of San Antonio; step-sons, Jesse Alvarez and Tony Alvarez, both of Palacios; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Ellen Hebert and Didia Morales; and brothers, Gantran Alamia and Arthur Alamia. A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. tonight at Palacios Funeral Home chapel. A resident of Palacios since 1951, she was a member of the Catholic church. Survivors include her husband, Aurelio R. Funeral services for George Herrera Alderete of Freeport were held at 5 p. m. Saturday, May 19, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Brian Cookes officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Rosary was recited at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel at 7:30 p. m. Friday. George Alderete, his nephew Johnny Alderete, 19, and Andy Ramirez, 18, both of Edna were killed in a two vehicle accident late Thursday night about one mile west of Freeport on Highway 36. Another nephew, Frank Alderete, 29, of Freeport was critically injured. He was carried to Hermann Hospital in Houston by Life Flight and later transferred to John Sealy in Galveston. A rigger for U. S. Contractors, George was born in Palacios on March 2, 1954 and was a member of the 1972 graduating class of Palacios High School. He is survived by his father, Aurelio R. Alderete of San Antonio; his mother, Francesca Alderete of Palacios and five sisters, Eva, Anita, Rosemary Alderete of Palacios, Teodora Vallejo of Houston and Adeline Gamio of Sweeny.

Funeral services for Martha Alderete, 37, of Palacios were held Sept. 16, 1995 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Burial was in Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Alderete was born Nov. 2, 1957 in Mexico to Mr. and Mrs. Arturo Tagle of Del Rio. She died Sept. 14, 1995. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. Mr. J. H. Alldredge, who died at his home in this city Sunday, March 23, was born April 9, 1867, near Lufkin, Texas. In 1900 he was married to Miss Annie McNeil and to this union four children were born, two of whom, A. N. Alldredge, of Palacios, and Mrs. Ollie Caldwell, of Orange, with their mother survive, to mourn his passing. Mr. Alldredge lived the quiet life, following the humble trades. The early part of his life was spent around Lufkin, while these later years he has lived in the southwest part of the state near Sandia and Orange Grove, coming to Palacios a little more than a year ago. He became a member of the Baptist Church in middle life and was an active deacon in his church as long as health permitted. Besides his immediate family he is survived by two brothers, Tommie and M. M. Alldredge, of Lufkin and four sisters, Mrs. Jim O'Quin, of Trinity, Mrs. J. a. Brown, of Huntington, Mrs. Sam Messingill, of Alto, and Mrs. Benton Hawkins, of Lufkin. Funeral services were held Tuesday with Rev. L. W. Crouch, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating, and burial made in the Palacios cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clyde Ross Aldrich were held at 2 p. m. Sunday, November 30, at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Daughter of the late Donald William Ross and Sallie Elizabeth Fletcher Ross, she was born July 27, 1898. A former resident of Palacios, she had lived in Tyler for the past 35 years. She passed away November 28 in the Medical Center Hospital in Tyler. She is survived by two nieces, Barbara Lee Mixon of Baytown and Mary Jane Schroeder of Corpus Christi; and two nephews, Fortune E. Ross of Blessing and Don Ross of Corpus Christi.

Funeral services for Mary E. Alessandro were held at 11 a. m. Saturday, October 15, in the Church of Christ building in Palacios, with Joe Williams of Medina officiating, assisted by N. E. Balch, local minister. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Daughter of Samuel D. and Sarah J. Kynerd, she was born January 30, 1894, in Killeen, Texas. She and her husband, Michael, moved to Palacios in 1938 and were employed at Camp Hulen during World War II. They moved away for several years, but returned to Palacios in 1960 for retirement. Since the death of her husband in 1969, she has resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ira C. Prindle, and another daughter, Mrs. Virginia Post, all of Palacios. She had been a member of the Palacios Church of Christ for the past 17 years. She died Wednesday, October 12, at the age of 83, in Wagner General Hospital after a short illness. Besides the two daughters, she is survived by three sons: Michael E. Alessandro, San Marcos, Calif., David J. Alessandro, Cheyenne, Wyo., Van B. Alessandro, Boulder, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Michael E. “Mike” Alessandro, resident of Palacios for the past nine years and formerly in business here, died Thursday in Wagner General Hospital after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Alessandro moved here in 1939 and was employed at Camp Hulen during the years of World War II. He moved to Temple, Texas in 1945, but returned to Palacios to retire. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was 78 at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Mary Alessandro, Palacios; two daughters, Mrs. Cornell Prindle, Palacios, and Mrs. H. S. Post, Longview, Texas; three sons, Michael N. Alessandro, Riverside, Calif.; David Alessandro, Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Van Alessandro, Boulder, Colo.; three brothers, Victor Alessandro, Houston, Tex.; Alex Alessandro, Los Angeles, Calif.; G. O. Alessandro, Temple, Texas; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday at the Palacios Funeral Home conducted by Norris Neeley, minister of the Church of Christ, Goliad, Texas and Henry Doublet, minister of the local Church of Christ. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Final rites for Mrs. Sarah Anne McNeil Alldredge, 82, were held here Monday afternoon with the Rev. Rayford Harris officiating. Born December 26, 1869, in Angelina County, Mrs. Alldredge died March 1 at the home of her son in Edinburg. She had suffered a broken hip in a fall last December. Mrs. Alldredge and her late husband came to Palacios in 1939 with their son, Albert Alldredge, who was depot agent here until 1944. Mr. Alldredge passed away in 1941. Pall bearers were Dr. Norman E. Runyon, John C. Richards, P. R. Treacy, C. F. Carter, Joe Ruth and L. G. Margerum. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Ollie Caldwell of Gila Bend, Ariz., and a son, Albert Alldredge of Edinburg. Palacios Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements and burial was in Palacios Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Tabb Allen were held Tuesday, October 7, at 2 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. T. C. Hebert and Brother N. E. Balch officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Daughter of the late Theadeous and Sallie Tabb, she was born March 16, 1887 in Mount Pleasant, Texas. A former resident of Palacios, New Gulf and Bay City, she had lived in Kerrville the past five years. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She passed away in the Colonial Nursing Home in Kerrville Sunday, October 5. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. B. H. (Oleta) Horn of Kerrville and Mrs. P. R. (Lorene) Treacy of Palacios; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Bertha Allen of Blessing and Mrs. Vivian Allen of Pasadena; 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Bertha Green Allen, 75 of Blessing, were held March 11 at 11 a. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Holden officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Allen was born May 10, 1911 in Palacios to George Bryant and Ethel Harris Green and died March 8, 1987 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston. She had been a resident of Blessing since 1945. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Michalik of Brazoria and Ethel Ann Guynes of Palacios; one sister, Millie Green of Blessing; two brothers, Ernest Green and Howard Green, both of Francitas; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her son, Joe Allen, in 1958.

Joan Carroll Allen, 19 year old daughter of Mrs. Price M. Barnett and the late Harley Allen, was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon about six o’clock when she was crushed between two driverless cars. Police Chief Tom Hill reported it as “a freakish accident.” Joan Carroll made a heroic effort to protect the car of her fiancé when she saw the Rowton’s compact car creeping towards it and in an attempt to stop the moving car was crushed. She was rushed to Wagner General Hospital by Mrs. Clifford Wright who she was visiting and died shortly from a punctured lung. Joan Carroll, a native of Palacios, was a member of the 1964 graduating class of Palacios High School. She recently completed a beauty course at Victoria Beauty College and was employed at Aggie Lou’s Beauty Shop. Her engagement to Pat Phillips was announced only a few weeks ago. At press time Wednesday, funeral services were pending. Funeral services for Joe Edward Allen were held Saturday afternoon at 2 in the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Rayford Harris conducting the services. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery with graveside services conducted by fellow members of the I. O. O. F. Joe Allen of Blessing died instantly in a head-on truck-car crash on Highway 35 about a mile west of Markham about 3:15 Thursday afternoon. Allen, enroute to his job with the Ohio Oil Company near Clemville, was driving east in his Isetta and was involved in a crash with a pickup driven by Arnold Manna of Bay City. Manna sustained bruises about the body. Sheriff Jack Cole said that Allen apparently dozed momentarily while driving and crossed into the west bound lane. Allen was born September 29, 1931 in Palacios, the son of Mrs. Bertha and the late T O. Allen. He attended schools here until the family moved to Blessing some years ago. He is survived by his wife, Iris Allen of Blessing; his mother, and two sisters, Mrs. George Guynes of Blessing and Mrs. Walter Cromer of Baytown.

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Mae Allen were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Friday, June 2, at 10 a. m. with the Rev. Rayford Harris officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. The daughter of James W. and Elva Jane Coppock Welch, she was born April 23, 1892 in Kansas and passed away of an apparent heart attack at her home Tuesday, May 30. Mrs. Allen and her husband, the late E. R. Allen came to Palacios in 1919. For many years they operated charter boats for hunting and fishing parties. They later built Allen’s Courts, which was destroyed by Hurricane Carla but re-built. Mrs. Allen was operating the courts at the time of her death. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her two children, Esther DaProne and Harley Allen. Her survivors include two granddaughters, Betty Jane DaProne of San Antonio and Jeannette Oglesby of Palacios, two grandsons, Robert Earl Allen of Medford, Oregon and Bob Allen DaProne of Edna and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Maurine Lawson Allen were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Tuesday, March 13, at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Thomas E. Connolly officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Daughter of the late Willie Schley and James Gordon Lawson, she was born in Palacios on December 25 1908. She lived here many years before moving to Houston, where she passed away in Memorial Hospital on March 11. Survivors include her three sons, James Gordon, Gary Dean and Gale Allen; one daughter, Gwendolyn Harris, all of Houston and six grandchildren.

Funeral services for Patricia Ann Allen, 59, of Palacios will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at First United Methodist Church in Palacios, with the Rev. Charlie Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Allen died May 6 at her residence. She was born June 4, 1939 in Gary, Ind. to Walter James Talmadge and Mary Ellen Heims. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Athena Club. She has been a resident of Palacios since 1957. On May 27, 1959, she married Roy Eugene Allen. She worked for the cafeterias of Palacios Independent School District and recently was food technician for the Friends of Elder Citizens. Matagorda County marked up its eleventh highway fatality of the year Saturday when Raymond Glenn (Perky) Allen was killed instantly about 8 p. m. when the car he was driving hit a bridge on Farm Road 521 near Tin Top. Earl Rogers, also of Palacios, a passenger in the car which he owned, escaped with minor injuries. Funeral services for Allen were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. Ralph Masters of St. John’s Episcopal Church conducting the last rites. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Allen of Pasadena, he was born June 22, 1932. Other survivors include his wife, Leta, of Palacios, two sisters, Linda and Elizabeth of Pasadena, and a brother, Gene, of Palacios.

Funeral services for Roy C. Allen, a former resident of Palacios, were held at the First Baptist Church of Palacios on Thursday, April 5, at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Wilson E. Nunn of Pasadena and Rev. Leon Maxwell of Palacios officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Son of J. H. and Anne Tabb Allen, he was born February 12, 1909, in Big Spring, Texas. The family moved to Palacios in 1924 where he lived for many years. He was married to Vivian Mae Cox on May 20, 1928 and to this union four children were born. One son, Raymond Glenn “Perk” Allen, preceded him in death in 1958. A resident of Pasadena, Texas, the last 28 years he had been an employee of Houston Lighting and Power Company for 27 years and was Head Journeyman Electrician. He died April 3 in Baptist Memorial Hospital in Houston of injuries sustained in a fall from a light pole on March 14. Forty of his fellow employees with H. L. & P. attended the services and served as honorary pallbearers. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Allen of Pasadena; his mother, Mrs. Annie Allen of Kerrville; one son, Roy Eugene Allen of Palacios; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann “Tuttle” Hogg of Pearland. Funeral services for Vivian Cox Allen, 90, of San Antonio, were held Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000 at the Palacios Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charlie Parker officiating. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery. She died July 31 at the Methodist Specialty & Transplant Hospital in San Antonio. A resident of San Antonio for 4 ½ years, she had previously resided in Pasadena for 56 years and was a member of Westfall Baptist Church in Pasadena. She was born Sept. 5, 1909 in Richmond, Tex., to the late Robert Collier Cox and Elizabeth Schley Cox. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Roy Lee Hogg of San Antonio and Linda and Ron Matlock of Dallas; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Jane Allen of Palacios; four grandchildren, Melody Allen of Dripping Springs, Raymond Allen of Hyannis, Mass., and Bruce Allen and Robert Hogg of San Antonio; and three great-grandchildren, Rickie Lee Keim of Dripping Springs, and Jennifer and Brianna Hogg of San Antonio; and her sister-in-law, Lorene Treacy of Palacios. Pallbearers were James Kruse, Bruce Allen, Billy L. Ray, Raymond Glenn Allen, Gilbert Dixon and Robert Hoggs.
