Carl Abraham Abrahamson was born in Sweden, March 20, 1855. He came to America in 1882 with his family, making their home in Iowa. To this union was born six children, three having died in infancy. The three surviving children are Charles, of Canada, Mrs. Ralph Snyder, of Sanforn, N. Dak., and Gust of Spicer, Minn. In 1889 his first wife died, and in 1891 he was married to Hilda Louisa Larson, who preceded him in death thirteen months. To this union was born six children, all who survive him, Ruth, Dolph and Elmer of Carancahua; Mrs. Guy Cavallin, and Albert of Olivia, and Ernest of Waterville, Ohio, also seven grandchildren. He united with the Lutheran Church when a young man. In 1909 he came to Texas, settling on a farm in Carancahua, where he united with the Church of Christ, living a conscientious Christian life. He passed away at his home after a short illness, Oct. 15, 1930, 11:30 p. m., at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 25 days. Services were held at the Carancahua church at 3:30 o'clock, conducted by C. F. Conner, of Wharton. He was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Palacios Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ernest Edwin Abrahamson were held at the First United Methodist Church Sunday, April 26, at __ p. m. with the Rev. Irving King officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. A son of Carl Albert and Hilda Louise Abrahamson, he was born in New London, Iowa, on November 9, 1895. A retired farmer, he had been a resident of Carancahua for approximately 45 years. He was a veteran of World War I. He passed away in a Victoria Hospital Friday, April 24. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; two daughters, Betty June Condie of San Antonio and Isabel Louise Greenawalt of Palacios; two sons, Ernest Burton Abrahamson of Silver Springs, Maryland and Lawrence Edwin Abrahamson of Palacios; two sisters, Mary Snyder of Valley City, N. Dak. and Ruth Hetchler of Longview; three brothers, Dolphy C. Abraham of Lindsay, Calif., Albert E. Abraham of Olivia and Elmer H. Abraham of Palacios, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Hilda Louise Larson was born November 9, 1858, in Linkoping, Sweden. She came to America in the year 1890 making her home in Iowa, where she was married to Carl Abrahamson. To this union were born six children. They moved to Minnesota, where they lived six years, coming to Texas, in 1909, they settled on a farm in the Carancahua community. She united with the Lutheran Church in Sweden when but a child. Four years ago she joined the Church of Christ at Palacios. She had always lived a conscientious Christian life and was greatly loved by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and the six children: Ruth and Dolph of Carancahua, Albert, Elmer and Mrs. Guy Cavallin of Olivia, Ernest of Waterville, Ohio; three step children, Charles of Canada, Gust of Spicer, Minn., and Mrs. Ralph Snyder of Sanborn, N. Dak. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. A. Frankson of Carancahua and Mrs. Hannah Adolphson of Duluth, Minn., also six grandchildren. She passed away at her home, after a short illness, September 17, at 8:15 p. m. Funeral services were held at the Carancahua Church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. F. Conner, of Wharton.

Funeral services for Lawrence F. Abrahamson, 59, of Carancahua Community, were held Aug. 23 at 2 p. m. at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios with Rev. Bernard “Buck” Ritchea, and Rev. T. Ervin King officiating. Interment followed at the Palacios Cemetery. Abrahamson was born Dec. 6, 1928 in Waterville, Ohio, the son of Ernest E. and Myrtle F. Falls Abrahamson. He died Aug. 20, 1988 at his residence. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Palacios, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U. S. Army. He was a lifelong resident of the Carancahua Community, Unit Supervisor for Alcoa Gas Plant, member of Port Lavaca VFW Post #4403 of Texas, Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and a member of the North American Limousin Foundation. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Edwards Abrahamson of Carancahua, two sons, Rickey Abrahamson of Port Lavaca and Larry Glenn Abrahamson of Austin; two sisters, Betty Condie, of San Antonio and Isabell Greenawalt of Carancahua, one brother, Ernest Burton Abrahamson of Silver Springs, Maryland and three grandchildren. Pallbearers were Allen, Paul, Carol, John E. and Robert Abraham and Harry L. Frankson. Honorary pallbearers were fellow employees of Alcoa Gas Plant, Lavaca Pipe Line and Nieman Production.

Funeral services for Mary Ruth Abrahamson, 70, of Mission, Tx. were held June 23, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios with Rev. Charlie Parker officiating. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery. Mrs. Abrahamson was born May 21, 1931 in Telephone, Tx. to the late Clyde and Eva Owens Edwards. She died June 20, 2001 in Mission, Tx. A former resident of the Palacios area, she was a past state officer of the Texas Extension Homemaker Association. She is survived by her husband, Virgil Bosma of Mission, Tx.; daughters Deborah Mouser and Denise Clark, both of Albertlea, Minn.; sons Larry Abrahamson of Austin, Rick Abrahamson of Yoakum, Tx., Davis Bosma and Doug Bosma, both of Emmons, Minn.; sisters Sarah Baber of Houston, Juanita Shoemaker of Port Lavaca, Betty Jo Arliss of Houston, and June Westerholm of Port Lavaca; brothers H. G. Edwards of Paris, Tx., Clyde Edwards of Weatherford, Tx., Charles Edwards of Honey Grove, Ts., and Max Edwards of Cleveland, TN.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lawrence E. Abrahamson.

Funeral services for Marcelino Abrego were held at 10 a. m. Tuesday, March 4, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Brian Crookes officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7 p. m. Monday at the Rendon Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Abrego was born February 8, 1890, in San Diego, Texas. He had been a resident of Palacios for 45 years and retired as an employee of the City of Palacios 20 years ago after 25 years of service. He passed away at 6:15 p. m. Sunday in Wagner General Hospital after a long illness. Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Willie Garcia of Palacios and a grandson, Charles Ray Garcia of Palacios.

Funeral services for Adrian Dana “Dan” Adams, 40, of Francitas, were held Feb. 7, 1992 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joseph Hamby officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Adams was born Nov. 23, 1951 to Albert M. and Ludean Nichols Adams in Fairfield, Calif. He died Feb. 3, 1992 at a Houston hospital. He is survived by his father, Albert M. For the second time within a few weeks, death took a son of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Adams, when their five year old son, Danny Wayne, was fatally injured Monday night about 8:15 when struck by a car driven by Floyd Eaton of 1000 Perryman, Palacios. The accident occurred 17 feet north on 9th Street at Humphrey Avenue. The investigating officer was Jack McAdams, city policeman. Born October 9, 1962, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Desi Wade, on June 14. He is survived by his parents, his sister, Emma Jean, his brother Elvin, Jr., and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Adams and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hebert. Funeral services will be held at the Pilgrim Rose Church Friday, August 9, at 2:00 p. m.

Funeral services for Desi Wade Adams, five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Adams, were held Friday, June 14, at 2 p. m. at the Pilgrim Rose Baptist Church with Rev. C. L. Luddington officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Born October 2, 1962, he died June 10 in John Sealy Hospital, Galveston, where he had undergone heart surgery approximately a month ago. Survivors include his parents, his sister, Emma Jean; his brothers, Danny Wayne (his twin) and Elvin Jr. and his grandparents, John Adams and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hebert.

Funeral services for Harvey Leroy Adams of Palacios and Brazoria were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Saturday, September 25, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon with the Rev. Charles J. King officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. Son of Harvey W. and Arlena Stradlin Adams, he was born in Kaufman County, Texas, on June 15, 1915. In 1917 the family moved to Palacios where he lived most of his life until several years ago when he moved to Brazoria. Employed by Parker Bros., he passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the Sweeny Community Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Alice Adams; one daughter, Mrs. Jesse Owens Sexton, both of Brazoria; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Fonti and Miss Nannie Marie Adams of Healdsburg, Calif.; three brothers, Edward of Warren, Texas, Elbert of Pasadena, Robert (Pete) of Aransas Pass and four grandchildren.

Funeral services for Janice Adams, eight year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Adams, were held Sunday at the West Palacios Church of God of Prophecy with Bishop D. M. Deadrick conducting the last rites. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery. A third grade student, Janice was born August 2, 1952 in Palacios and died Wednesday morning, March 22 in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Funeral services were held for John Wesley Adams, Friday at 2 P. M. in the Palacios Funeral Home conducted by Rev. L. W. Crouch and burial made in the Palacios Cemetery. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Adams, born December 6, 1942. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Adams were his foster parents and had lovingly cared for him during his short life, which ceased September 25, 1946 in the hospital at Bay City. Besides his grief stricken parents, two sisters, Barbara Lee and Rita Jeanette, survive. William Jennings Adams died at the residence of his brother, H. W. Adams on Tuesday, at 1:30 p. m. Mr. Adams came to Matagorda County in 19__ from Van Zandt county and has had resided in this vicinity ever since, making his home with his brother. He is survived by his brother, ___ Adams of Palacios. Funeral services were held in the service room of the Palacios Funeral Home, Wednesday morning at 10:00 o’clock, with Rev. G. F. Gillespie officiating. Burial was in Palacios cemetery, under direction of the Palacios Funeral Home. Pall bearers were A. G. Skinner, N. L. Hayes, D. D. Paulk, Frank Gillespie and T. S. Forehand.

Graveside services for Mrs. Leafa Mae Green Addison, of Houston were held at 2 p. m. Saturday in the Palacios Cemetery with Rev. Carl L. W. Israel officiating. Leafs was born November 9, 1895 to Mertie and Willie Green, pioneers in Indian Territory Oklahoma. Her Indian name was given her by an uncle who adored a beautiful Indian maiden named Leaves of May. The family lived in Oklahoma when they moved to Palacios, Texas. Here she finished her elementary and high school education which had begun in a one room school house in Oklahoma. Normal school provided her with a teaching certificate that started a teaching career in Midfield, Texas and lasted 52 years. Always one for education, she went on to receive a BA, MA and LDD and also helped many others to further their education. She became a member of the Christian Church at a very early age where she still has her membership. Art played a great part in her life, often teaching China and oil painting. Many, many have enjoyed the hospitality of her home. She was always there with a helping hand. She was rich in lasting friendship and even in her last year and a half in a nursing home there were tears from the nurses’ aides and patients at her passing on Wednesday, March 15. She is survived by a brother, Jim Green of Brownsville, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Dortha Bradberry of Houston and five nieces.

Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Adkins, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Adkins was born March 28, 1882 and died Saturday, February 28 in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Funeral services for Byron C. Adkins, 94, of Palacios, were held Feb. 16, 1996 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff English officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery. Mr. Adkins was born Nov. 14, 1901 in Ganado to the late George Henry and Lucy Ann Jones Adkins. He died Feb. 13, 1996. An employee of Matagorda County Pct. 3 in Palacios for 17 years, he was also an oilfield worker for 26 years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife, Dorotha Lee Adkins; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and John Taylor of Palacios; a sister-in-law, Eva Adkins of West Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were John Taylor, John Ressler, Herbert Schneider, Paul Hunt, Charles Mize and Howard Holloway. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church.

The death of Marion Randolph Adkins at his home near Turtle Bay Saturday, brought to a close the journey of another citizen of this community who had passed the four score milestone in his life. The deceased was born in Georgia on Jan. 16, 1851, and died on Jan. 19, 1935, at the age of 84 years. He was left an orphan at the age of nine years and with his grandparents moved to Louisiana. When 22 years of age he came to Texas and continued to make this state his home. In 1872 he was married to Mary Frances Youngblood and to this union five children were born, three of whom survive, namely, Mrs. E. R. Snapp, B. F. and G. H. Adkins. Mr. Adkins became a member of the Baptist Church at the age of 21 years and was a faithful Christian throughout until his death. Besides the wife and three children he is survived by 16 grand-children, 12 great-grand-children and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday by Rev. George D. McClelland and remains interred in the Palacios cemetery under the direction of A. A. Duffy and Co. Card of Thanks We take this means of saying “thank you and God bless you” for the many thoughtful deeds and words of kindness and consolation from the many neighbors and friends during the illness and death of our husband, father and grandfather, also for the many floral offerings, (tributes of your kindness).

Adkins, the son of James Madison and Betty Anna McCluskey Adkins, was born Aug. 16, 1908 in Seymour and died Jan. 19, 1984 at Wagner General Hospital. Johnnie P. Aguilar, 48, of Norco, LA, passed away Aug. 13, 1988 in New Orleans. Born Nov. 17, 1939 in Palacios, he has been a resident of Norco for the past 22 years. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic at DuPont Chemical Co. in Reserve, LA. Mrs. Aguilar was born Aug. 27, 1916 in Midfield to the late Macedenio and Charlotte Soto Carrio. She died Oct. 8, 1999. She was a former resident of Palacios and a member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. A rosary service was held Oct. 10 at 7 p. m. at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Aguilar was born July 2, 1913 in Beeville and died Oct. 9, 1982 at Wagner General Hospital. He was a driver for the City of Palacios Sanitation Department. He was a resident of Palacios since 1955. Survivors include two daughters, Guadalupe Macklin of Palacios and Sylvia A. Trevino of Fort Worth; two brothers, Geronimo Aguilar of Edcouch and David Garza of Alice; and six grandchildren.

Rosary was recited at 8 p. m. at the Funeral Home Chapel. Son of Teodoro Aguilar of Palacios and the late Mrs. Consuela Aguilar, he was born July 23, 1945, in Elsa, Texas. A resident of Palacios for 20 years, he was a heavy equipment operator in construction work. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He died Wednesday, March 26, at his home following an illness of four months. Survivors in addition to his father include two daughters, Diana and Delores Aguilar; two sisters, Mrs. Juan Gomez, all of Palacios and Mrs. Manuel Trevino of Fort Worth.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tomasa A. Aguirre of Bay City were held Tuesday, September 10, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with the Rev. Brian Crookes officiating. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery. Rosary was recited Monday at 8 p. m. at the Rendon Funeral Home Chapel in Palacios. Mrs. Aguirre was born January 1, 1909, in Santa Maria, Texas, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alejandro Alvarez. A former resident of Palacios, she lived in Bay City for the past two years. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bay City Hospital at 8:30 a. m. Sunday, September 8, of an apparent heart attack. Survivors include her husband, Napoleon Aguirre of Bay City; three sons, Pedro Aguillar of Bay City, Domingo Aguillar of Bryan and Jesus Puentez of Palacios; a daughter, Mrs. Agapita Chavez of Palacios; a sister, Mrs. Andres Frasosto of Palacios and 26 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 29 at 10 a. m. for Ernie Alamia, who drowned Tuesday afternoon in Crawford’s slip. Rosary was recited Wednesday night at the Palacios Funeral Home and requiem mass was held Thursday morning at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick O’Farrell officiating. Interment was made in Palacios Cemetery Thursday afternoon. A son of Mrs. Beatrice Alamia and the late Gilbert Alamia, he was born April 20, 1945. Surviving besides his mother are two sisters, Josephine and Shirley Alamia; five brothers, Pete, Gilbert, Julio and Frank Alamia all of Palacios and Steve Alamia of Mississippi.

Julia Alamia, 22 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gavino Ramos, passed away at his home, 814 Humphrey, Saturday, September 18. He was born November 7, 1942. Rosary was recited at Palacios Funeral Home Sunday at 8 p. m. and requiem mass was held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Monday, September 20, at 8:30 a. m. with Rev. Michael Harrold officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.
