The Crawford Packing Company is making quite an attractive addition to the Green Lantern Inn. Workmen began early this week on an 18 by 36 foot dining room extension. Mr. Lacy Pybus is supervising the construction of the building. At completion the Green Lantern Inn will have a dining room 18 by 46 feet with hardwood floors and attractive panel interior. The diner will be completely closed to the counter in front and will make a most desirable place for banquets and special seafood meals for entertaining out of town guests. An 8 by 36 ft. screened in extension on the side with opening only to the dining room will be equipped for summer use. Modern ladies' and men's restrooms are being built in addition to the room.

Workmen are busy enlarging the Green Lantern Inn, with an addition on the south side full length of the building, connecting with the present dining room. It will be glass enclosed with an entrance on the east which will make it much nicer for private parties, banquets, etc. The interior will be finished in the same style and colors as the present dining room and when completed will make it into a very attractive banquet hall. With this addition it will be possible to serve much larger crowds, also with no interruptions from comers and goers who patronize the main dining room. The popularity of the Green Lantern Inn is becoming widespread and another leading attraction for Palacios.

Mr. Carlton Crawford of the Green Lantern Inn at Palacios has announced the completion of the remodeling and enlarging of this attractive restaurant facing the beautiful Palacios bay and cooled by the Gulf breezes. The Green Lantern has been famous for years for its delicious sea foods and with the new additions and facilities is in a position to give better service to its guests. The new porch has a comfortable seating capacity of 60, and a banquet seating capacity of 80. Therefore, they can take care of a banquet of 80 people and at the same time care for 60 dinner guests in the main dining room. Another improvement is the installation of the latest type beverage cooler with cold dry air instead of the usual unsanitary cold water, providing the guests with the coldest beverages they will find on the Gulf Coast. "We are continually striving to improve our service and food in every way, and we believe you will not over estimate when you tell your friends that at the Green Lantern Inn they will receive only the finest and freshest of sea foods, steaks and chickens," Mr. Crawford stated.

Rarely does one find a more attractive dining room than the Green Lantern Inn, located immediately on the Bay front with a panorama of beauty from every perspective. Its large and spacious dining rooms are especially designed and decorated to lend an atmosphere of comfort and refinement, and are so arranged to accommodate banquets and parties in good style and taste. Unique in its treatment of drapes, valances and service carries out the significance of one of the country's greatest industries, that of fishing. The Green Lantern Inn is one of the local Crawford enterprises and is an important factor in the business life of Palacios as well as being the center of much social life here and from surrounding towns. They specialize in seafoods of all types, prepared to suit the individual taste, sizzling steaks and chicken. This restaurant has become the meeting place of not only individuals who desire good food in an atmosphere of relaxation, but serves practically all the club luncheons, dinners and banquets of Matagorda County. Every precaution is taken in the buying and this same special interest is shown in the preparations of the food and served in the nicest possible manner by courteous, capable waitresses.

Mr. and Mrs. Ward Cook, Ward and Emily to their friends, took over the management of the Green Lantern Inn August 1 and will continue its operation under the same general policies under which it was operated while owned by the Crawford Packing Company. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cook are well known in Palacios, Mrs. Cook having lived here ever since her marriage seven years ago while Mr. Cook has been a resident of this city since he came here with his parents when 15 years of age. Mr. Cook was employed by O. C. Arnold as baker for 10 years and will utilize that experience in baking all the pastries to be used at the Green Lantern. Both are experienced in restaurant work as they operated a cafe here in Palacios for over two years, besides having had previous experience of the same nature. Under their management the Green Lantern will continue to specialize in sea foods and will also cater to those desiring fine Kansas City steaks and friend chicken. The dining room will be open at 10:00 a. m. each day but will remain open until midnight they say. Thoroughly conversant with the restaurant business, Mr. and Mrs. Cook intend to cater to discriminating diners who desire good food, well cooked and served in the most appetizing manner. Their many friends in Palacios wish them the best of success.

Rehabilitation and repairs to the less seriously storm damaged structures in Palacios is proceeding rapidly but work on those business establishments which were practically demolished is a little slower in getting started although owners say they will rebuild as quickly as materials and labor can be secured. The three most seriously damaged, the Green Lantern Inn, the Harbor Inn, and the Sunshine Laundry will all be rebuilt as soon as possible, the proprietors announce. In the case of the first, Carlton Crawford has already started work and expects to have the Inn ready for use within the next two weeks. The new structure will utilize the former dining room, which was not completely demolished and workmen are busy effecting the necessary repairs. The new structure will be somewhat smaller than the old and will be minus the porch. It will be located across the road from the old site and the building will face south instead of north as heretofore.
