2nd Annual African American Heritage Day Sat.

The Palacios Community Coalition in association with The Palacios Area Historical Association is sponsoring the Second Annual African American Heritage Day on Sat. (Feb. 21) from 3 - 5 p.m. at the Palacios City by the Sea Museum, located at 401 Commerce Street. Speakers and presentations will explore the theme “The Contributions of the American Abolitionist Movement to African American History." “Oral Histories” as recorded by Dr Bonnie M. Benson of the Matagorda County Historical Commission, will be presented to the museum as a reflection of the African American Heritage in Palacios. The public is encouraged to bring old family photos to be scanned into the museum’s archives and all of their family lore to share at the event.

2nd Annual African American Heritage Day Celebrated at City by the Sea Museum

The 2nd annual African American Heritage Day was held at the City by the Sea Museum this past weekend. This year's celebration featured presentations over abolitionists. Palacios youth Deja Jones read historical quotes. Billy Polk (pictured above) gave historical reflections of American Abolitionists in Black History. Angela Fletcher read featured poetry. Larry Deadrick spoke of there not being American History without Black History and Ernestine Heard Erwin presented one Palacios Story. The day concluded with Dr. Bonnie Benson's Oral History Clip with Red Adams.
