Jim graduated from Perryton High School in 1944 where he excelled in sports. He was named All-District Offensive Guard for the Perryton Rangers football team during his senior year.
After graduation, Jim enlisted in the Navy and served during World War ll before being honorably discharged in 1947.  In 1947, he began working at Chance Vought Aircraft Company in Fort Worth and attending North Texas State College in Denton where he graduated in 1953.

Jim and Maxine spent the first 25 years of retirement in Scottsdale, Arizona before moving to Belton in 2013. Jim was always active in church and was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church, Bay City. As a child of the depression, he had a heart to serve children with physical, mental, or emotional challenges. He was always beloved as an encourager to his friends and students.

To say that Jim loved his family would be an understatement. He constantly and consistently demonstrated the love of Jesus in the ways he cared for Maxine, his children, and his grandchildren. He was always there for them, nurturing and supporting them as he took the time to encourage and be a part of their lives. One of his favorite joys was the birth of a new member of his family. David graduated from Sterling City High School in 1962 and was Valedictorian of his graduating class.  After high school David attended the University of Texas, where he was a member of the Longhorn basketball team.  David ultimately earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English Literature from Sam Houston State University.

Mr. Durham's passion was education.  His first teaching position was as a professor at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.  While there, he became associated with the Little Dribbler's Basketball program and traveled extensively promoting the youth basketball program that was near and dear to his heart.  David returned to Huntsville, where he taught English and coached at the "Walls Unit" of the Texas Department of Corrections.  From Huntsville, he relocated to the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, Texas, where he continued his coaching and teaching career at TDC.
