Daniel Alan Dabelgott
(September 3, 1948 - June 14, 2007)

Daniel Alan Dabelgott, 58, or Woodsboro, TX passed away June 14, 2007. He was born September 3, 1948 in Bay City, TX to Allen Earl and Ernestine Mae Krenek Dabelgott. He was a graduate of Tidehaven High School and of Texas A & I University in Kingsville with a degree in Natural Gas & Petroleum Engineering. He had been a resident of Woodsboro for 27 years and was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. Daniel was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Det.1 453rd Family Readiness Group (FRG), a family support organization for US Army Reserves, 644th FRG & 217th FRG. He spent his life being involved in the everyday lives of his children and grandchildren and his faithful Chocolate Lab “Chip”. Many children through the years were treated as if they were his.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Teresa Ann Savage Dabelgott of Woodsboro; daughter Dara Ann Dabelgott of Woodsboro; sons Darin Alan Dabelgott of Bay City, Daryl Andrew Dabelgott & wife Shana Naomi of Midland and Sgt. Derek Austin Dabelgott, who is currently serving in the US Army Reserve in Iraq; sisters and their spouses Barbara & J. B. Freiley of Bay City, Irene & C. J. Benefield of Polk City, FL, Geneva & Rick Rader of Old Ocean and Mary Jane Dabelgott of Palacios; and five grandchildren Jordan Tyler Austin, Jonathan Taylor Dabelgott, Jennifer Tanae Dabelgott, Blaze Alan Dabelgott and Prudence Ann Dabelgott Lewis.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Monday, June 18, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral mass is 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. (April 28, 1927 - June 20, 2006)

Julious Ralph Dabney, 79, of Bay City died June 20, 2006. He was born April 28, 1927 in San Jacinto County, Texas to James and Dagna Purcell Dabney. He was a member of the Bay City Baptist Church, life member of the Phillip H. Parker VFW Post 2438, and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

Survivors include his wife Alice King Dabney of Bay City; son Marvin Dabney of Bay City; grandchildren William Cullen Dabney and Tray Lynn Dabney both of Bay City; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty and Delane Cates and niece Dena Cates all of Houston.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 23, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lee Watson officiating. Interment will be 4:00 PM Friday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen, Texas.

Tray Lynn Dabney, 19, was born July 28, 1989 in Bay City to Vickie Collins and Marvin Dabney. Tray Lynn’s life was cut short on Sunday, October 12, 2008.

She is survived by: her mother, Vickie Hamlyn and husband Clay of Wadsworth; father, Marvin Dabney and wife Melanie of Georgia; brother, William Dabney and wife Tami of Bay City; grandparents, Alice Dabney of Bay City; Janie Lea of Oklahoma, and Andy Collins of Tennessee; niece, Emma Kriner of Bay City; four step sisters, Chelsea Hamlyn of Lake Jackson, Michelle Hamlyn, and Lindsey Hamlyn both of Corpus Christi and Courtney Glisson of Palacios; two aunts, Ronda Valentine and husband Darrell of Katy and Angela Collins of Louisiana; and three cousins, Samantha Collins of Mabank Texas, Caleb, and Cameron Valentine both of Katy.

Her grandfather Julious Ralph Dabney preceded Tray Lynn in death.

Tray Lynn was a 2008 graduate of Van Vleck High School were she was very active in FFA and played on the high school golf team.

Tray believed in living her life to the fullest. There was nothing she couldn’t do. Tray loved barrel racing, showing cattle, fishing, hunting, surfing and dancing. Her family members were her best friends and her friends were her family. When Tray smiled, the world smiled back.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with the Rev. Zach Nicholson officiating. Interment will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen, Texas.

Pallbearers will be John John Miller, Danny Sisson, Alton Love, Jeff Wendell, C.J. Ratliff and Shawn Janise.

David Hammond, Darrell Valentine, Kevin Sparks and Coach Michael Kelly will be honorary pallbearers.

Leslie Clifton Dacke
(July 19, 1934 - May 29, 2006)

Leslie Clifton Dacke, 71, of Pasadena died May 29, 2006 in Kingsville, Texas. He was born July 19, 1934 in West Columbia, Texas to Elmer Bruce and Annie Frances Burford Dacke. He was a graduate of Van Vleck High School and served 4 years in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Leslie worked as a welder for Goodyear Rubber for 40 years and owned B & D Fabrication in Pasadena. Later in life he enjoyed camping and traveling in his RV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Montie Weathers, and brothers Bruce, Wayne and Harold Dacke. Survivors include his son Bruce Dacke of Pasadena; sisters Anna Belle Schulenberg of College Station and Joyce Dacke of Conroe; brother Charles Dacke of Lolita; and grandson Neal Dacke of Austin.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Alan Gordon Dalrymple
(October 31, 1922 - August 3, 2009)

Alan Gordon Dalrymple, 86, of Selkirk passed away August 3, 2009. He was born Oct. 31, 1922 in Houston, TX to the late Albert Ernest & Margaret Mary Westworth Dalrymple. He served in the US Army during WWII and worked for Southwestern Bell for many years.

His wife Shirley preceded him in death. Survivors include daughter Linda Williams & husband Tom of Helena, Alabama; son Dean Dalrymple & wife Karla of Holly Springs, North Carolina; grandchildren Brandon Dalrymple & Erin D. Koch and great granddaughter Paisley Koch.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 5pm to 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, TX.

Virginia Lou Crawford Damon, born on the 8th of April, 1929, in Houston, Texas, to Estelle Diana and Curtis Eugene Crawford passed from this life on the 5th of January, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79. A private graveside service was held on the 7th of January; the Rev. James C. Morgan officiated.

Virginia Lou, an only child, grew up in the small Texasgulf Sulphur Co. town of New Gulf, Texas, and graduated from Boling High School, Class of ’46. Virginia Lou began her dance training at the tender age of three, traveling to Houston to study with renowned dance teach Hallie Pritchard. Before long she realized she wanted to choose ballet and dance as her lifetime profession and soon began traveling to Houston by bus 5 days a week throughout her high school years. She always considered herself lucky and blessed to have had the opportunity to train with wonderful teachers. Ann Miller and Tommy Tune were among the many talented students that also studied with Hallie Pritchard.

In the summer of 1943, when Virginia Lou was 14 years old, Ms. Pritchard saw talent and dedication in Virginia and rewarded her with an invitation to travel with her to Los Angeles to train with Madame Bronislava Nijinska. This meeting proved to be successful and Virginia Lou would continue to travel to California each summer for 8 years and receive ballet training from Madame Nijinska; returning each fall to Texas for school, dance, voice and piano lessons. Virginia Lou started her first dance school in Texas after that first summer in Los Angeles. Her early students referred to her fondly as “Miss Crawford.” During the 1940s if one intended to pursue a professional career in ballet and dance, one had to seek out their training. A degree in Ballet was not offered at the time and Miss Crawford considered herself very fortunate to have had such rich and rewarding experiences with exceptional teachers.

Madame Nijinska played a significant role in her life. Nijinska, sister to Vaslav Nijinsky, taught the professional dancers and Virginia Lou was in classes with Cyd Charisse and Vera-Ellen. Virginia Lou also studied with Ernest Belcher, father of Marge Champion; Nico Charisse, Dance director of MGM and husband of Cyd; and Alexander Kotchetovsky, Madame Nijinska’s first husband. While in Hollywood, Virginia was privileged to have performed at the Hollywood Bowl in “Petrouska” and “Sherherazade.” She performed as well with Serge Diaghilev’s The Ballet Russe in New York City.

With Virginia’s talent, ability and good looks it was no surprise that she was asked to audition and then test for a part in a Warner Bros. Film starring Doris Day. This was her first big audition and she was delighted to have been chosen for the role. The dance director for the movie was Leroy Prince. As fate would have it, Prince had to undergo emergency surgery and the movie had to be postponed for his recovery. Virginia continued to study and practice there for the months of delay only to discover that her ambition was not a career in movies but to return to Texas, her home and her dance pupils.

When Virginia Lou returned to her home state of Texas, she knew that she had made the right decision and embarked upon a teaching career that lasted for 34 memorable years. Virginia Lou taught dance in Wharton,

Bay City, Angleton, El Campo, Rosenberg and West Columbia, Texas. Never one to boast or brag, Virginia Lou would on occasion share her experiences with her children and dance pupils. She recalled how exciting it was living in the apartment below the young Margaret O’Brien and watching her study dance under the instruction of Irina Nijinska, Mme Nijinska’s daughter, who also taught Liza Minelli and Natalie Wood. “It was such a glamorous time to have been in Hollywood in the 1940s. I would try to see movies whenever I could, and on Sundays I would walk on Hollywood Boulevard and see all the “weird” and “strange” people and sights.” Virginia Lou had the opportunity to see many glamorous movie stars of the “Golden Era”. She fondly recalled watching Rock Hudson escort Vera-Ellen to dance class and sometimes getting a sneak peek at Rock Hudson taking his private dance lessons from Mme Nijinska. During World War II, Virginia performed and danced for the USO.

Virginia Lou met the love of her life, John Wiley Damon in 1952; they were married on April 16, 1955. Together they had three children, Diana, Ginny Kate and John Wesley and two daughters from John’s previous marriage, Shelley and Jonna.

In 1957, shortly before their first child was born, John built their first home with a dance studio next door. “It was always exciting,” she said. Virginia Lou loved teaching children and sharing her life with so many students and friends. She has remained in close contact with many of her students. Virginia Lou always believed in the benefits of dance. “Dance is beneficial for children. Ballet teaches discipline, grace, self confidence and appreciation of good music,” said Virginia Lou.

After retiring form her dance career, Virginia Lou remained active in many community related affairs. Virginia Lou and John enjoyed being active in politics, travel and collecting. They especially enjoyed the life they had chosen together and the love they had for one another, their children, grandchildren and friends.

Virginia Lou will be remembered not only for her grace, talent and beauty, but for her faith in God, sense of humor and loyalty to her family and friends. We will cherish our memories and always hold her close in our hearts. She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 53 years, John W. Damon II, their three children, families and grandchildren, friends and former dance students.

Virginia Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Eugene Crawford and Estelle Diana Kirk Crawford ReSier.

Virginia Lou is survived by her husband, John Wiley Damon of West Columbia; three children, Diana Damon Walker and son-in-law, Steve, of Alpine, Texas, Virginia “Ginny Kate” Damon Shackelford and son-in-law, David, of West Columbia, John Wesley Damon of Old Ocean; her adopted daughter, Shelley Winn Damon of Austin and her stepdaughter, Jonna Ruth Woodburn of Midlothian; five grandchildren, Molly Katharine Walker, Samuel Steven Walker and Travis Damon Walker of Alpine, Sally Kate Shackelford and George Wiley Shackelford of West Columbia; great-granddaughter, Lila Kate Shackelford of West Columbia and dearly loved family friend, Dorothy Paul Lewis of Brazoria.

The family would like to thank Virginia Lou's friends and dance students for their prayers, kindnesses, cards and good wishes during her illness.

Final arrangements were made by Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas.

Pallbearers for the service were George W. Shackelford, Samuel Walker, Travis Walker, Gary Graham, P.T. Brunner and Jack Patterson.

Scott Derek Daniel, age 42, of Galveston died Saturday, December 27, 2008 in Houston, Texas. He was born on August 22, 1966 in Wharton, Texas to James and Maxine Daniel. He grew up in Bay City, Texas and graduated from Bay City High School in 1984. He graduated with a B.A. in Liberal Arts from The University of Texas in Austin in 1988 and from the UT School of Law in 1991.

Scott was a partner in the law firm of Greer, Herz, and Adams in Galveston where he served with distinction since 1991. He was involved in many civic organizations and functions in Galveston including most recently as a cast member in the East-End Theatre Company. Scott loved the arts including spending many memorable nights on Broadway. He also loved to travel and recently returned from a trip to Israel.

Scott is survived by his parents, James and Maxine Daniel of Scottsdale, Arizona; one sister, Vicki McClain (John) of Carthage, Texas; one brother, Jimmy Daniel (Sue) of Houston; two nieces, Amanda Daniel of Austin and Kelli McClain of Carthage; and one nephew, Jonathan Daniel of Waco.

Scott also leaves behind many friends whom he loved and thought of as family.

A memorial service to celebrate Scott's life will be held 2p.m. at the Moody Gardens Ballroom, 7 Hope Blvd. Galveston, Texas 77554.

John Edwin “Ted” Davant

Graveside services for John Edwin “Ted” Davant were held today at 2 p. m. at the Hawley Cemetery with the Rev. Milton McWilliams officiating.

Mr. Davant died Sept. 23, 1984, at his home in Blessing. He was born Sept. 8, 1911, in San Antonio. A lifelong resident of Matagorda County, Davant was a retired attorney, a former county attorney for Matagorda County, a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Bay City Gun Club, the Bay City Country Club and the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Bay City.

Survivors include: his wife, Kathryn Cornelius Davant of Blessing; four daughters, Carolyn Fricke of Port Lavaca, Cornelia Atwood of Palacios, Kathryn Higgins of Victoria and Eugenia Wilson of Sulphur, La.; two sons, Dr. James E. Davant of Blessing and William L. Davant of Victoria; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Hite, Harold Martin. L. M. Pierce, Wayne Wehmeyer, John Wilson and Michael Fricke. Honorary pallbearers were Frank Lewis, Sr., Henry Mann, Gene Migura, W. F. Fly, L. L. Chiles, Jimmy Stewart, Harry Snowdy, Joe Entzminger and members of the Bay City Gun Club.

Mildred Reissig Davidek, of Boling, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at her residence in Boling following a brief illness.

She was born on August 31, 1917, in Victoria, daughter of the late Arthur Reissig and Hallie Caraway Reissig.

Mildred was raised in Bay City and graduated from Bay City High School in 1936. She married Jerry Davidek on July 10, 1937 in Bay City and he preceded her in death in 1969. Mildred worked at the Pledger Post Office as Post Master Relief. In addition, she owned and operated the Boling Variety Store for over 20 years. Mildred was a talented artist with oil and pastel paints, she also loved to garden and read. She was very happy to be one of the charter members of the Boling Baptist Church helping to build the church with her own hands. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Thelma Fisher and Opal Talbot and son Jerry Davidek.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Wharton Funeral Home with the Reverend Valmon Meade officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Pallbearers were Charles Svec, David Svec, Joe Campos, Anton Zahradnik, Harrison Stafford and Larry Hunt.

Survivors include: her daughter, Susan Davidek Svec and husband, Charles of Boling; grandchildren, Robin Svec, David Svec, Gena Rush, Erin Hobbins and husband, Howard, Jerry Michael Davidek, Jr. and Joseph Frank Davidek and wife, Lisa; six great grandchildren; nieces, Mildred Hunt, Patricia Symmank, Jeanette Stafford, Linda Felder and Dorothy Gaile and nephews; Steve Davidek, Tommy Davidek and Charles Talbot.

VICTORIA - Quinton D. Davidson, 20, of Victoria passed away Friday, June 18, 2010. Quinton was born Nov. 23, 1989, in Bay City to Clifford Davidson of Victoria and Dawn Daniels of Rusk. Quinton was a welder, an avid hunter and fisherman and a Baptist.

Survivors include his father, Clifford Davidson (Carol), of Victoria; mother, Dawn Daniels, and companion, Lisa Bartsch, of Rusk; son, Mark Andrew Wise, of Victoria; brothers, Cecil " Bubba " Davidson, and Garrett S. Davidson, both of Victoria; sisters, Tiffany M. Davidson, of Victoria, Tabitha R. Davidson, of Galveston, Tonya L. Davidson, of Tennessee; brothers, Patrick Wilson, and Aaron Wilson, both of Victoria; best friend, Andy "Frito" Parker, of Victoria; maternal grandfather, George S. Daniels, of Rusk, great-grandmother, Deenie Daniels, of Rusk; and paternal grandfather, Cecil M. Davidson (Charlene), of Cuero. Quinton is also survived by many aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins that loved him.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Peggy Hadash, and great- grandfather, George Daniels; paternal grandmother, Bonnie Davidson, and paternal great-grandparents, Herman and Velma Stark.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, June 22, 2010, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, the Rev. James Shamburger officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the Woodsmen of the World Cemetery in Prairie Lea. A gathering of friends and family will follow from 6-8 p.m. at the Tanglewood Clubhouse.

Annie Lipinsky Davis, 86, of Bay City, Texas, died April 2, 2006. She was born June 18, 1919, in Westoff, Texas, to Stanley Thomas Lipinsky and Gertrude Hadamek Lipinsky. She married Ralph Stuart Davis on August 18, 1936 in Bay City, Texas. They were married for 52 years.

Elizabeth Alyne Davis

Elizabeth Alyne Davis, 82, of Blessing, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2007 in Houston, TX after a long battle with cancer. She was born October 18, 1925 in Stanford, KY to Daniel Potter and Lillian L. Hiatt Potter. She was a resident of Blessing since 1979.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years: Jack Davis of Blessing; her daughters: Sandra Hamilton & husband Wayne of Branson, MO and Jackie Moore & husband Russ of Rosharon; by her sons: Jim Davis & wife DruAnn of Conroe and Randy Davis & wife Mary of Blessing; and by 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents: Daniel and Lillian H. Potter; and her brother: Leslie Potter.

He was born June 12, 1950 in San Antonio, TX to Dorothy Mae Gibson and James Vernon Davis, Sr. He was a resident of Matagorda County since 1974, a retired Superintendent from HP Zachry, and a member of the Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth Howerton Davis of El Maton, his daughter: Lora Lynn Weakley & husband Chris of Brazoria; a son: James Brian Davis and wife Annette of Lolita; his sisters: Annie Jewel of Victoria, Betty Ann Davis of Vanderbilt and Margie Jackson of Tennessee; his brothers: John Davis of Vanderbilt, Mark Davis of Lolita and Eddie Davis of San Antonio; by his grandchildren: Corrine Rachae Anderson, Miranda Faye Hancock, Angela Marie Davis and Christopher James Davis; and by a great grandson: Colton Alan Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dorothy and James V. Davis, Sr.

Jarvis Davis, 51, of Matagorda, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010.

He was born May 5, 1959 to Roland Johnson Davis and Lois Mae Meeks Davis. He was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County.

He is survived by: his sisters, Janice Greenway of Midfield and Joy Dee Losack of Richwood; his brothers, Jeff of Port Lavaca, and Joe Glenn Davis of Rio Hondo, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: is father, Roland J. Davis; his mother and step-father, Lois Mae and Jiggs Basey; his brothers, Joice Eugene, Johnson Lee, Johnny, and Jimmy.

Jarvis was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be dearly missed by everyone whose life he touched. He will live on forever in our hearts through loving memories.

Mrs. Davis was born Nov. 4, 1930, to Claude Stuart and Lula E. Schaffer Williams in Bay City and died June 21, 1990, at Matagorda General Hospital.

A resident of Blessing since 1970, she was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Leland H. “Dave” Davis of Blessing; a son, Claude Stuart Mattson of West Columbia; mother, Lula E. Callaway of Bay City; a sister Barbara Green of Blessing; a brother, Jackie E. Williams of Bay City; and two granddaughters, Tony and Andrea Mattson of West Columbia.

She is preceded in death by her father, who died in 1941, and her daughter, Carol Annet Mattson, in 1958.

Emma White Dawdy, 94, of Bay City died at her residence June 29, 2000. She was born in Hope, Arkansas to the late Odo Carl and Frances Ellen Crye White.

Mrs. Dawdy was a long time resident of Bay City and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one niece, Ada Gwen Kunz of Houston; three nephews, Joe Holland Arrington of Center Point, Texas, Jerry White of Beaumont and Walter White of Austin; several great nieces and nephews; and dedicated care giver and friend Dorothy Allen of Bay City.

Richard Ples Dawdy

Funeral services for Richard Ples Dawdy, 83, of Bay City will be held 1:30 p. m. Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Sonnier, Msgr, James Brunner and Dr. W. D. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery, Blessing.

A wake will be held 7 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel.

Mr. Dawdy was born June 23, 1905, in Palacios to Ples and Elizabeth Rowles Dawdy and died April 12, 1989, in Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

His family settled in Matagorda County in 1850, and he was a fourth generation native of this county. His father was a trail driver for Shanghai Pierce.

He graduated from St. Edward’s University and retired in 1959 from Goodyear to ranch with his mother.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church Knights of Columbus, Men’s Golf Association and past president of the Bay City Country Club. He was an organizer and chairman of the Bay City Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament for 32 years.

He is survived by his wife, Emma White Dawdy of Bay City; two dear friends, Msgr. Christopher Martin of Bay City and the Rev. Charles Sonnier of Sweet Home; a niece and four nephews.

Pallbearers include Wayne Brooks, Ronnie Miller, Ed Baca, Earl Dibbern, Hugh Strickland and Dave Young.

Friends of the Dawdys will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of the usual donations, contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Holy Cross School Foundation or the American Diabetes Foundation.

Mary Elizabeth Keller Dawson, 86, or Corpus Christi died Dec. 7, 2005. She was born June 23, 1919 in Bay City, Texas to Donald E. and Mary K. Wright Keller. She had been a resident of Corpus Christi since 1982 and served in the US Navy in WWII.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Dawson, Jr. in 1990. Survivors include daughter & son-in-law, Linda Dale and Trenton Fagg of Corpus Christi; son, Joseph L. David Nelson Day, 77, of Bay City passed away at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

He was born September 28, 1926 in Bay City to the late Ed and Sophie Marie Schmidt Day.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator for A. M. Ussery in Blessing, and a former longtime resident of Blessing.

David had lived in Kerrville for the last three years, most of that time living with his sister Edna Mikus.

On February 25, 2004 he moved to the Legacy in Bay City.

Six days later he was hospitalized in Bay City for two days and was then transferred to the Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include: one brother, Henry Richard Day and wife Elaine of Blessing; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Fern Day of Deutschburg Community; nieces, Sheryl Jeffery of Kerrville, Sophie Gates of Memphis, Tennessee, Lisa Day Remmy of Blessing, and Geneva Day Socha of Deutschburg; nephews, Tommy and Walter Day of Blessing, Richard Earl Day of Hugo, Oklahoma, and Charles Mikus of Yorktown; great nephews, Ed Mikus of the US Army, and Michael Jeffery of Kerrville; great nieces, Shannon Walter of Louisiana, Kathy Socha of Deutschburg, Alicia Hart and Charlotte Mikus of Yorktown; great great nephews, Alex and Lewis Walter of Louisiana and Jason Hart, Jr of Yorktown, and a great-great niece, Danielle Walter of Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by: his brother Fred Day; and his sister, Edna Louise Day Mikus.

Mr. Day was born Nov. 14, 1931, in Bay City to Ed and Sophie Schmidt Day and died Feb. 21, 1987, at Wagner General Hospital, Palacios.

He was a resident of Palacios for 20 years.

Sophie Marie Day Died Sunday at Matagorda Hospital

Mrs. Sophie Adaline Marie Day, wife of Ed Day, of Blessing, died Sunday morning at 12:20 at the Matagorda General Hospital. Death came to Mrs. Day, 52, after an illness of many months.

Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edna Louise Mikus of Houston; three sons, Done M., Fred E., and Henry K. of Blessing; six sisters, Mrs. Louise Dillard and Mrs. Freda Cavallian of Palacios. Mrs. Margaret Schrode, Miss Annie Schmidt and Miss Dora Schmidt and Mrs. Marie Hoag of Oregon. Also surviving is one brother, Fredrick Schmidt of Oregon.

Funeral services were held from the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home this afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. Spellman officiating. Interment was in Cedarvale Hawley Cemetery.

THOMAS EDWARD DAY

A Memorial Service for Thomas (Tommy) Edward Day, 56, of the Deutschburg Community, Tx., was held Sept 2, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Blessing with Mrs. Joyce Morton officiating.

Mr. Day born on July 14, 1954 to Fred E. Day and Elizabeth Fern Morton Day. He entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Aug. 24, 2010.

Tommy was a quiet, non-assuming man who got along well with everyone. Before his retirement, Tommy worked in the rice fields for Charlie Johnson and later for Charlie’s son, Galen Johnson.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Fern Morton Day; brothers Richard Earl Day and wife Camilla of Antler, Oklahoma, and Walter William Day of Palacios, Tx.; sister Geneva Irene Socha of Ganado, Tx.; uncle Henry Richard Day of Blessing; nieces Kathy Socha of Ganado and Neva Pitman of Lena, Arkansas; cousins Teresa Blackwell and James Morton of Palacios, Braxton Morton of Willis, Tx., Nickey Jones of Van Vleck, Tx. and Sandra Di Giovanni of Sugar Land, Tx.

She was born December 30, 1947 in Refugio, Texas to the late Lupe and Elvira Garcia Elizalde. She worked at a Dietary Aide in the cafeteria at Matagorda General Hospital for many years.

Her daughter Linda Zaragoza preceded her in death.

She was born Dec. 28, 1933, in Gilmer, to the late Fred and Elsie Collier Floyd. She was a retired accountant for Emjay Chemical and a member of Church of God International.

Survivors: sister, Florence Howard of Victoria.

Preceded in death by: husband, David A. Dearing; and brother, Howard D. Floyd.

Services will be 10 a. m. Tuesday at Colonial Funeral Home chapel.

(May 28, 1929 - May 31, 2010)

Clifton “Paw Paw” Deckard, 81, went to be with the Lord on May 31, 2010. He was born on May 28, 1929 in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee to the late Virgil and Cora Jane West Deckard. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association of Milton, Florida; member of the 16-Santa Rosa County Florida F & A.M. Masonic Lodge; member of the Scottish Rite and the York Rite Shrine Temple; member of the IBEW Electricians Union; retired from the St. Regis Paper Mill in Cantonement, Florida; member of the Bay City American Legion Post #11, and retired from U. S. Navy after 20 years of service. Formerly of Milton, Florida, moved to Van Vleck in 2001 to be near his family. Survived by his daughter Cathy Deckard Boone & husband James; step-daughter Sandy Lewis & husband Elmer; grandsons, Staff Sergeant Steven Deckard Boone of Spangdahlem, Germany, Andrew Clifton Deckard, Sr. and wife Julie of Van Vleck; one great-grandson, Andrew Clifton Deckard, Jr.; three sisters Louise Cox of Indianapolis, Indiana; Mable Davis of Cleveland, Ohio, and Joyce Emmert of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marie Dedek

Marie Dedek, 86 years, 5 months and 25 days, of Blessing, passed away in the Rockglen Hospital in Houston, Texas, Saturday, September 23, 1972 at 10:50 a.m.

Mrs. Dedek was a resident of the Blessing community for the past 46 years, but due to failing health the last three years, her residence had been at her daughter’s home in Houston. She was born in Luptal, Czechoslovakia, and baptized in the Evangel Reform Church.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Dedek, February 27, 1910. They celebrated their 50^th anniversary in 1960 and enjoyed five more years of marriage. They immigrated to the United States to Galveston via the S. S. Breslau of North Germany on May 24, 1912. Their first home was in Fort Worth for two years and then they moved to Needville and in 1925 they moved to Blessing.

Mrs. Dedek was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on August 16, 1965. Survivors include her four children Joseph Dedek of Blessing, Willie Dedek of Hayward, Calif., Bessie Hemza of Hayward, Calif., and Vlasta Fisbeck of Houston. She also leaves six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bay City on Monday, September 25, at 2 p. m. with Rev. Martin Herzog officiating. Interment was in Hawley Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lawrence M. Dellis, 86, of Bay City will be held 10 am, Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Rev. Nick Novak officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck. 

Dellis died Monday, Jan 18 in Sweeny.  He was born August 29, 1912 in Kaufman County to Murray Madison and Pearl Pickard Dellis.  He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and a member of the I.B.E.W. Local Union 716 of Houston, and a Mason for over 50 years. 

Dellis is survived by his wife, Thelma Dellis of Bay City, daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and J. W. Kelly of Bay City and Neldajo and Nick Mathison of Kaufman, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence M. Dellis, Jr. and wife Paula of Dickinson; sisters, Earnestine Garrison of Houston and Billie Jean Thorton of Liberty, TX; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wes Kelly, Justin Dellis, Larry Anderson, Alfred Cook, Phillip Loheo, and Ronald Loheo.

Elmer William Denbow
(March 13, 1918 - December 15, 2006)

Elmer William Denbow, 88, went home to be with the lord on December 15, 2006 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 13, 1918 in New Straitsville, Ohio to William Forrest and Pinkie Belle Smith Denbow. He served in the US Navy during WWII; was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bay City for 63 years; was a member of the board for Tidehaven ISD for a number of years and a member of the Methodist Church in Markham for over 60 years. Family togetherness was very important to him. He shared his love of hunting and fishing with his children, their spouses and the grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Edythe Carter & brothers Herman “Pete” Denbow & Harold Denbow. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Wanda Davis Denbow of Bay City; daughters Lynda Eloise Bible of Richmond, Susan Elaine Vavra & husband Edward, Jr. of Palacios, and Rhonda Edythe Porter & husband Jim of Katy; brother Francis H. Francis “Red” Denbow, 84, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2007 in Ganado, TX. He was born October 24, 1922 in Belcher, Louisiana to the late William Forrest & Pinkie Belle Smith Denbow. Red was a retired Gauger for Marathon Oil Co., a World War II Army Veteran, a lifetime member of VFW Post 2438 in Bay City, and a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survivors include wife: Bertha A. Clara Sturm DeReese
(March 20, 1919 - August 6, 2006)

Clara Sturm DeReese of Bay City passed away Sunday, August 6, 2006 at the age of 87 at Bay Villa Nursing Home. She was born March 20, 1919 to John and Elizabeth Sturm in Yorktown, TX and married her war time sweetheart, George DeReese, November 16, 1942.

Clara was a member of Catholic Daughters and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City. She worked side by side with her husband on several business ventures including many years at DeReese’s Grocery on Ave. F. Clara, an excellent seamstress and wonderful cook, will lovingly be remembered for her homemade kolaches, beautiful quilts, and devotion to her husband, children, and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Hedwig Sturm, Philomena Sturm and Mary Moy; and five brothers: Arnold, Herman, Joseph, Ernest, and Johnny Sturm and her loving husband of 59 years, George DeReese.

Survivors include two sons: Tim DeReese and wife Jeana Ann of Tomball, George DeReese and wife Annie of Richmond; two daughters: Donna Manthei and husband Teddy of Bremond, Kathy Schneider and husband Dennis of Bay City; and one brother, Leo Sturm and wife Lena of Crystal City. Clara is also survived by ten grandchildren: Jeremy DeReese, Theresa DeReese, Danny Manthei, Darren Manthei and wife Melinda, David Manthei and wife Briana, Dustin Manthei and wife Robin, Brian Schneider, Aaron Schneider, Lauren DeReese, and Heather DeRamus.

She was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Zane DeReese, Ryan and Abby Manthei, Rita Manthei, Hayden Manthei and numerous nieces and nephews.

George Carl DeReese

George DeReese passed away March 28, 2002. He was born in Westhoff, Texas in 1916 and was a long-time resident of Matagorda County.

George was owner and operator of DeReese's Grocery in Bay City for seventeen years.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a fourth degree member of the Knight's of Columbus, and a member of the Kiwanis Club. George also served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fritz DeReese and Otto DeReese and by three sisters, Hilda DeReese Bartos, Martha DeReese Hilbrich and Elise DeReese Hahn.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Clara Sturm DeReese; by one brother, Norman DeReese and wife Lorine of Alice; two sons, Tim DeReese and wife Jeana of Tomball, and George Carl DeReese and wife Annie of Richmond; by two daughters, Donna De Reese Manthei and husband Teddy of Bremond, and Kathy DeReese Schneider and husband Dennis of Bay City; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family was "extra special" to George who adored his grandchildren and always loved visiting with relative and friends. His warm, generous heart and witty sense of humor touched many lives. He also enjoyed gardening, raising birds, and deer hunting.

His family extends gratitude to all the staff and caretakers at The Legacy in Bay City where George resided for the past three years.

William A. Dewett of Blessing passed away at the Jefferson Davis Hospital Friday morning at 12:15 o'clock after short illness.

Mr. Dewitt was 54 years old and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hannah Dewett; two sons, C. W. and C. K.; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Ray and Lora Havlos of Mississippi; three brothers, T. B. Dewett of Fort Worth, and Denton and W. T. Dewett of Mississippi; also his mother, Mrs. Sarah Dewett of Mississippi.

Graveside services for Tammy Lynn Schneider Diaz, 38, of Anahuac, Tx. were held May 10, 2003 at Hawley Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Burch officiating.

A native of Wharton, she was born Sept. 28, 1964 to Alvin Henry Schneider, Sr. of Palacios and the late Vera Arthell Lively Schneider.She died May 7, 2003.

She was a store manager of McDonald's in Anahuac.

In addition to her father, she is survived by three daughters, Stacey Diaz and Amanda Schneider, both of Anahuac and Jessica Schneider Cepac of Palacios; two sons, Mario Diaz, Jr. and Justin Schneider, both of Anahuac; two sisters, Sandra Koch of Palacios and Sharon Duke of Wallisville, Tx.; and a brother, Alvin Schneider, Jr. of North Pole, Alaska.

Pallbearers were Robert John Koch, James Cepak, Vernon Duke, Jr., Gerald Holloway, Robert Koch and Josh Yeager.

EL CAMPO - Robert Henry Dickerson, 81, passed away on Aug. 27, 2008. He was born on Dec. 11, 1926, in Joaquin, to the late James William and Jewell Strong Dickerson. He was a U.S. Marine veteran and a 60 year master Mason.

He was district manager of FESCO until his retirement in January 1991.

He is survived by his wife Kathy "Katy" Yackel Dickerson of El Campo; daughters, Terri L. Cox and husband Brent of Bay City, Karen Kohn and husband Kim of Hallettsville, and Bobbi Francis and husband Andy of Inez; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Radack of Houston.

Visitation will begin at noon on Friday at Triska Funeral Home.

Daisy Louise Dillinger
(February 3, 1911 - November 14, 2008)

Daisy Louise Dillinger, 97, quietly passed away on November 14, 2008 in the Palacios Community Medical Center. She had lived the last five years of her long life with her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia & Tap Logue of Matagorda, Texas.

Daisy was born to Margaret Pauline & John William Helms, Jr. on February 3, 1911 in Opp, Alabama. As a young girl she moved with her parents and sister, Annie Jane, to the Port Arthur area where she lived the majority of her life. She graduated from Port Arthur High School in 1930 and soon married her husband of 60 years, George Dillinger. They were married in the First Christian Church of Port Arthur and remained active members until death. Together they had two daughters, Sylvia Louise and Eileen Dillinger.

Daisy was a faithful Christian and lived her life each day through Jesus Christ. A loving daughter, sister, wife and mother, she gave selflessly to her family. Her devotion extended from daughters Sylvia, Eileen and their families to her sister, Annie Jane Gilliland and her family, including nieces and nephew Jo Ann, Geraldine, Jane, Judy and Jerry and each of their families. These loved one will eternally treasure Daisy’s love, kindness, and most of all, her delicious pies!

Daisy was preceded in death by husband George Dillinger, sister Annie Jane Gilliland, daughter Eileen Mann and grandson Alec Paul Stansbury. Survivors include daughter Sylvia and son-in-law Tap Logue of Matagorda; grandsons Terry Logue of Matagorda and Tim Logue of Ft. Worth; granddaughters Tina Homan of Ft. Worth, Toni Logue of Ft. Verne Rodger DiPasca Sr. 67, of Gustine Texas, passed away January 31, 2009 surrounded by family.

He was born June 7, 1941 in New York, New York, to Gladys DiPasca and the late Albin W. DiPasca.

Our Dad served in the United States Navy for 22 years retiring as Chief Petty Officer. He worked as the Veterans Service Officer for Matagorda County for 10 years. During that time he went above and beyond his job duties as Veterans Service Officer, he also worked closely with the Sheriffs Office and touched many lives.

Dad was involved in several community organizations. He was a member of the VFW Post 2438-Bay City, he was the Past District Commander of District 16, Past County Council member, Past Post Commander for the Palacios Post. He was also a past commander for the American Legion-Bay City. He was involved in the Knights of Columbus, he was a 4th degree knight. He was an active member of the Hope Masonic Lodge in Comanche, Texas. He held various positions in the Masonic Lodge.

Our dad was a very hard working man. If you ever had a problem and went to my dad for help he would do whatever it took to help you. In the event that he could not help you he would find someone that would. Dad was the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

He is survived by his lovely, loving wife and friend Frances DiPasca, daughters DeeDee DiPasca-Martinez and Rudy Martinez, grandchildren Jonathon Jona Saenz, Samantha Martinez, Christopher Chris Martinez all of Hurst, Texas. Rosemary and Bruce Smith, grandchildren Angelina Fisher, Shawn Fisher, Kayla Fisher, all of Bay City, Texas. Jeannie Quick and Danny, grandchildren James Jimmy Quick all of Matagorda, Texas. His son Verne Rodger DiPasca Jr. and Melodie Garcia of Houston, Texas. His Minor children Edward Teddy DiPasca, Christina Chrissy DiPasca, Samantha Little Sam DiPasca, all of Gustine Texas. His mother Gladys Virginia Young DiPasca of Florida, sisters Lourie Schultz and her child Tiffany of Florida, Yvone DiPasca, Doreen and Danny Thomas and their children, Michelle Christy, Kimberly and Danny Jr, all of Georgia.

The wake will be held at Compean Funeral Home in Houston Texas between the hours of 5-9 pm Thursday, February 5, 2009. The Catholic Funeral Mass will commence at 11 am  12 pm at St. Ignatius Loyola, after mass the memorial will be held at the VA Memorial Cemetery in Houston at 1:15 pm.

PALACIOS [Matagorda County, Texas] - Katherine Mary Lacour Dismuke, 64, of Palacios, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003.

She was born Dec. 31, 1938, in New Orleans, La. to the late Saul Emanuel Lacour and Louise Zerringue. She was a retired CPA.

Survivors: husband, Edwin Earl Dismuke; daughters, Kerl Anne Stanzione of Knoxville, Tenn., Jodi Beth Cassle of Fort Polk, La., and Lori Jean Elliott of Bay City; and son, Erik Sean Dismuke of El Campo.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.

Madelyn Phillips Dismukes
(July 10, 1922 - December 2, 2008)

Madelyn Phillips Dismukes, 86, of Bay City passed away December 2, 2008. She was born July 10, 1922 in San Angustine County, Texas to the late Hubert Alexander Phillips and Mina Walker Phillips.

Madelyn started school in Lufkin, TX and graduated from Dayton High School in 1939. She worked in Liberty and Dayton prior to working at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, during the war. She returned to Dayton where she met and married Kirby Dismukes in 1947.

They moved to College Station, TX for Kirby to finish school while she worked in the Veteran Billing Section of Administration at Texas A&M, working on their IBM computers. Following graduation they moved to Bay City, TX, in 1951.

Madelyn loved her family and church, joining the First Baptist Church soon after arrival in Bay City. She also loved her many friends, traveling, and walks on the Matagorda Beach.

Madelyn was active in the Gleaners Sunday School Class for many years. Prior to that, she worked with young people in the church. She worked as a Pink Lady in the hospital for many years before retirement.

She is survived by her husband Kirby Dismukes; her daughter Paula Davis and husband Larry; grandson Jason Hurley; and granddaughter Jennifer Rodriguez and husband Jeramy. She is also survived by her 2 great-granddaughters Madysen and Dominique; her sister-in-law Joan Phillips; and very special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Nancy Poncik, grandson Christopher Hurley and her three brothers, Norman E. Phillips, Claude Andrew Phillips and Hubert O. Phillips.

The family will receive visitors from 6 PM to 8 PM Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. BAY CITY - Kirby Dismukes, 84, of Bay City, passed away March 15, 2009. He was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Harwood, to the late Lee Terrell Dismukes and Gertrude Nancy Morgan Dismukes.

Kirby moved to Liberty where he graduated from Liberty High School in 1941 and enrolled at Texas A&M the following fall. Kirby joined the Navy Seabees in January 1943, traveling to Newfoundland, England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. While in Germany he was selected to attend Stanford University. He was later discharged from the Navy in January 1946 and returned to Texas A&M.

Kirby married Madelyn Phillips in 1947 and they moved to College Station in September of 1947. Kirby graduated from Texas A&M with a B.S. degree in 1949 and he and Madelyn moved to Bay City in 1951. Following graduation Kirby worked for the Farmers Home Administration in Liberty and later in Bay City. In 1956 Kirby left FHA, worked in banking, later in real estate, and eventually for Conoco as a right of way agent where he retired.

Kirby loved his family and church, joining the First Baptist Church soon after arriving in Bay City. From his early years, Kirby always had a horse, which was his mode of transportation. Being around horses and cattle were always a special interest. Kirby also enjoyed fishing and refinishing furniture, which consumed much of his time following retirement.

He is survived by his daughter, Paula Davis and husband Larry; grandson, Jason Hurley; granddaughter, Jennifer Rodriguez and husband Jeramy; and grandson, Steven Davis. He is also survived by his two great-granddaughters, Madysen and Dominique; his sisters-in-law, Patsy Mullins and Joan Phillips; and very special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Madelyn Dismukes; daughter, Nancy Poncik; grandson, Christopher Hurley; and his two brothers, Richard Lee Dismukes and Kenneth Terrell Dismukes.

The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, March 17, 2009 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Juanita Ruth Dockery, 82, of Webster died August 24, 2006. She was born July 22, 1924 in Palacios, TX to Charlie and Estella Dyer McConnell. She was a former longtime resident of Palacios.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray “Doc” Dockery in 1975. Survivors include her daughter Donna Dockery of Webster, TX and two nephews and their families Gary & Doris Corporon of Halletsville, TX and Charles & Ethel Nelson of Tennessee Colony, TX.

Albert (Buddy) A. Dodd, Jr.
 

 Funeral services for Beverly Richard Dobson were held at the Church of Christ, Thursday, April 28, at 2 p.m., with Mr. Archie Crabtree officiating. Interment was in the Hawley Cemetery.

Born October 25, 1870 in Farmersville, Texas, the son of Solomon Dobson and Elizabeth Wisdom Dobson, he passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harley Snider on April 27, 1960.

In 1898 he was united in marriage to Louella Welborn, who preceded him in death on March 21, 1960. They moved from Farmersville to Midfield in 1914 then to Blessing where they made their home until 1948 when they moved to Channelview. They lived in Channelview until three years ago when they moved to Palacios to make their home with their daughter.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gertie Roberts of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Loy Faye Snider, Palacios; two sons, E. H. of Corpus Christi and E. L. of Channelview, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Daughter of Mary Ann Cobb and Tom Welborn, she was born February 28, 1880 in Farmersville, Collins County, Texas. A former resident of Blessing and Channelview, she and her husband had been a resident of Palacios for the past three years and were living with their daughter, Mrs. Harley Snider, at 201 Lucas, where she died Monday, March 21.

She is survived by her husband, B. R. Dobson; two daughters, Mrs. Snider and Mrs. Gertie Roberts of Corpus Christi; two sons, E. L. Dobson of Channelview and E. H. Dobson, Corpus Christi; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Miss Mignon Doman, 86, of Markham were scheduled to be held this morning at Hawley Cemetery with the Rev. W. A. Haskell officiating.

Miss Doman was born June 12, 1900, in Ellis County, Texas, and died July 30, 1986, at Matagorda House. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Doman and the former Clarence Walker.

She leaves a host of friends.

She was in the farming and ranching business for many years and was a member of the Red Cross and was a Gray Lady at Camp Hulen.

Funeral Services For Frank Domorad Set For Friday at 3

Funeral services for Frank Domorad, 75, of Palacios will be held Friday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock with interment in Hawley Cemetery under the direction of the SPJST Lodge.

Mr. Domorad died Wednesday morning following an illness of over a year.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Marie J. Domorad; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Valiadis of New York and Mrs. Vern Boysen of Hearn; six sons, Frank Jr. of New York, Joe of Pasadena, John of Palacios, Anton of Bay City, Charles of Galveston, and August of the Armed Services. Also surviving is a brother, Joseph of Europe.

Funeral services for John W. Domorad, 84, of Markham, will be held 10 a. m. Thursday at St. Robert’s Catholic Church in Markham with the Rev. Peter Higgins officiating. Burial will be at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing. A rosary will be said 7:30 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel.

Mr. Domorad was born Sept. 1, 1908 in Sealy to Frank and Mary Javarek Domorad and died Oct. 13, 1992 at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City.

He was a member of the Catholic church. He lived in Markham since 1967 was a longtime resident of Matagorda County.

Survivors include a sister, Vera Boysen of Gonzales; a sister-in-law, Blondie Domorad of Markham; a niece; a nephew and a host of friends.

Mr. Domorad was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers are Fred Holub, A. J. Kacer, Lee Hall Pierce, Stanley McMillan, Edward Lezak and Louis Jurek. Honorary pallbearers are Allen Dablegott, Al Krenek, Adolph Biskup, Jerry Flint, Tick Pierce and Daniel Cornelius.

Vlasta (Kopecky) Domorad

Vlasta Kopecky Domorad, 94, of Bay City passed away Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Bay Villa Nursing Home. She was born December 16, 1911 in Granger, TX to the Late John Frank & Frantisky Woytek Kopecky. Mrs. Domorad was a life long resident of Matagorda County, a Lutheran, and housewife. She was also, a member of the American Legion Post 649 Auxiliary for 36 years and SPJST. Vlasta loved fishing, playing bingo, and spending time with her loved ones.

She is survived by children: Margaret Jurek & husband Louis of Markham; 2 grandsons, Jason and Neil Jurek both of Markham; close friends, Jimmy Henkes, Wilma Vavra, Ona Lea Pierce, Lee Hall Pierce, and Frances Jurek; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Domorad was preceded in death by her husband Anton R. Domorad on April 24, 1975; parents; sisters, Frances Malish, Tracy Baggett, Agnes Boston, and Lillian Flint; brothers, V. L., Joe, John and Charlie Kopecky.

Donald "Donnie" Raymond Dornak, 55, of Bay City, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009. He was born January 21, 1954 in Bay City to Method Albert “Mac” Dornak and Albina Agnes Lauer Dornak. He was a graduate of Bay City High School, a member of the Bay City Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former Manager of Walker Seed and Garden Center, a former Manager of Cedarvale Cemetery, and served as an EMT with Bay City EMS from 1973 to 1991. He served as a member of the Bay City Volunteer Fire Dept. from 1982 to 1996 and was a former 1st. Assistant Fire Chief.

He is survived by his daughter: Donna Hubbard of Bay City; his sons: Eric Dornak of Beaumont and Scott Dornak of Pearland; his sister: Georgianne Smith of Canyon Lake; his brothers: Fred Dornak of Kingwood and Jerry Dornak of League City; and by 2 grandchildren: Georgia Faye and Justin Eugene Hubbard. He was preceded in death by his parents: M. A. & Albina Dornak and by two brothers: Edwin J. & Robert Lee Dornak.

Dorothy Louise Buss Dornak of El Campo died July 7, 2010 at the age of 82.

She was born on October 10, 1927 in Breslau, Texas to the late Victor and Emma Opella Buss. She was a Southwestern Bell Telephone operator for 10 years, then worked for First National Bank as a teller for 25 years. After retirement from the bank, she worked in the Hutchins Elementary School for several years. She was a Band Mom, a member of SPJST, and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by: her husband, of 56 years, Jerome J. Dornak; daughter, Susan Dornak Frankson and husband Sam of Bay City; and son Kenneth Dornak and wife Traci of Spring; grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, and Mary Katherine Frankson, and Brandon, Austin, Camryn and Madison Dornak; and brother, Larry Buss and wife Bernice of El Campo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Jerome Dornak, Jr., and sister Marjorie Hansen.

Visitation will begin 2 p.m. Thursday at Triska Funeral Home with a parish rosary being recited at 7 p.m.

Georgie Etta Dornak

Georgie Etta Dornak, 86, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in El Campo, TX. She was born December 16, 1922 in Hungerford to William M. Bucek and Lydia Wasek Bucek. She was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County; she was a graduate of Markham High School and Smalleys Business College in Houston. Georgie was a former employee of Long Theaters in Bay City, a former 4-H Leader in Matagorda County and member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing.

She is survived by her daughter: Darla Tobeck & husband Fred of Houston; her sons: Dr. Douglas W. Dornak, DVM and wife Kathryn of El Campo and Dennis Dornak and wife Janet of El Campo; by her sisters-in-law: Ella Bucek of Victoria and Nora Bucek of Bay City; and by 6 grandchildren: Ryan and Sarah Dornak, Wade and Ross Dornak, and John and Robert Tobeck. She was preceded in death by her husband: Johnnie George Dornak; her parents: William M. and Lydia Bucek; by sisters: Lottie Kocian and Evelyn Smith; and her brothers: Wilton Bucek and Leonard Bucek.

Rosary and funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2009 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Gerry Cernoch officiating. BERNICE DOROTIK

EL CAMPO - Bernice Dorotik of El Campo died May 31, 2010 at the age of 72. She was born July 17, 1937 in Bay City to the late John L. and Marie Kacer Hlavaty. She had been employed by the El Campo I.S.D. in the food service department and was a homemaker. She was a member of the KJZT Society and St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband Edward Dorotik Sr. of El Campo; daughters, Cynthia Nemec and husband Vincent of Bay City and Mary Richards and husband Jeff of Venice, Fla.; son, Edward Dorotik Jr. of Austin; grandchildren, Stephanie Nemec, Thomas Nemec, Chad Yates, and Donald Yates; sister, Mildred Kalas of College Station; and brother, Jerome Hlavaty of Lolita.

Her parents and a brother, John Hlavaty, preceded her in death.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today, with a parish rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Entombment will follow at the Holy Cross Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Thomas Nemec, Stephanie Nemec, Robert Leopold, Leonard Leopold, Donald Yates, Chad Yates, Joseph Kalas, and Ronnie Orsak.

DORRIS, James Elmer, former Bay City resident, passed away in Hermann Hospital, Houston, on March 3. A native of Lufkin, Mr. Dorris, had made his home the past two years in Houston. Services will be held Tuesday, March 7 at 2:00 p. m. in Taylor Brothers Chapel. The Rev. Joe Ash of Houston will officiate and interment will be in Hawley Cemetery. Former Bay City Woman Murdered In New Orleans

A former Bay City resident, Mrs. Jody McKaskle Doty, was beaten to death either late Monday or early Tuesday by an unknown assailant in New Orleans. Mrs. Doty, resided in Bay City in the late 50’s with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. McKaskle.

Mrs. Doty was the granddaughter of Mrs. Winnie Gainer, who still resides in Bay City at 2700 Elm.

The whereabouts of her father, who was an automobile mechanic, is now unknown and the family is anxious to locate him due to the untimely death of his daughter. He was last known to be in Cleveland, Texas, about two years ago. According to Mrs. Gainer, the mother, now Mrs. Cliff Brown of Texarkana, Arkansas, reports that, although complete arrangements are pending, the funeral will be held in Bay City with burial in Hawley Cemetery.

Elizabeth “Betty” Dowdy, 85, of Van Vleck passed away March 17, 2010.

She was born October 16, 1924 in Bishop, Texas to the late Oswald J. and Nora Koban Urban. She worked as a clerk for Kleberg County for many years. She and her husband retired to Startzville, Texas near Canyon Lake and she had been a resident of Van Vleck for the past 10 years.

Her husband Thomas N. Dowdy preceded her in death.

Survivors include: daughter, Norma Labuda and husband Joe of Van Vleck; son Donald Dowdy and wife Sybil of Hurley, Mississippi; grandchildren, Karen and Jake Goff of Hurley, Mississippi, Christie and Jim Thomason of Alpharetta Georgia, Sarah Labuda, MD of Little Rock, Arkansas, Meghan and Roye Moran of Spring, Texas, Teresa and Daylan Phillips of Hurley, Mississippi and Whitney Dowdy of Hurley, Mississippi; great grandchildren, Katie Beth Goff, Reece Thomason, and Connor and Bree Phillips.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Sweeny with the Rev. Edward Boineau officiating.

Graveside service will be led by nephew Rev. Tom Dowdy at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Cranes Mill Cemetery in Startzville, Texas.

Graveside services for Joseph L. Drake, 48, of Blessing will be held 3 p. m. Friday at Hawley Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Drake and the Rev. Scot Edmonson officiating.

Mr. Drake was born March 26, 1940, in Troup County, Ga., to Garfield and Doris Hamby Drake and died June 8, 1988, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Fowler Drake of Blessing; a son, Joseph Lamar Drake Jr. of Columbus, Ga.; father, Garfield Drake of Atlanta, Ga.; and three brothers, the Rev. Donald Drake, Thomas Drake and Billy Joe Drake, all of Atlanta.

Ignace A. “Ikky” Drozd, Jr., 82 of Bay City, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007 in Houston, TX. He was born November 29, 1924 in San Antonio, TX to Angeline Muzny and Ignace A. Drozd, Sr. He was a long time resident of Matagorda County and attended the Holy Cross Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City. He was retired equipment operator for the Texas State Dept. of Highways and Public Transportation, a Life Member of VFW Post 2438 of Bay City and a World War-II veteran of the US Army Air Force.

He is survived by his wife: Dolores C. Drozd of Bay City; by his daughters: Susan Drozd of Victoria, Jennifer Drozd of Ganado, Karen Holub of El Campo, Gayle Labay of Louise and LuAnn Supak of Francitas; by his step-daughters: Jan Trochta & husband Michael of Bay City and Priscilla Norman & husband Robert of San Antonio; his step-sons: Steven Zernicek and wife Sarah of Bay City and Mark Zernicek of Bay City; and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Angeline and Ignace Drozd, Sr.; by his sons: Joseph Dale Drozd and Michael David Drozd; by his sister: Dolphie Hamala; and his brothers: Ernest and Clarence Drozd.

Mr. John Edward Duffy, 59 years, 6 months, 8 days, passed away at the family residence near Blessing at 7:40 p.m. May 14th 1943. Mr. Duffy is survived by his wife Mrs. J. E. Duffy, one daughter Miss Inez Duffy of Blessing, Texas; three sons, John Henry Duffy, in the U.S. Army in California, Willie and Dan Duffy of Blessing, Texas; Four sisters Mrs. E. Charles Ethan Duller, age 62 years, 9 months and 18 days, who was stricken with a heart attack, expired at his family residence in Blessing Wednesday evening at 7:30.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Blessing Masonic Blue Lodge from the home in Blessing Friday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Holley [Hawley] Cemetery under the direction of Taylor Brothers.

Mr. Duller, who has resided in Matagorda County for the past thirty years, and has resided in Blessing for the past twenty-five years, owned and operated a grocery store. He has many friends over the county who join the Tribune in extending sympathy to the following who are left to mourn: his wife, Mrs. Chas. E. Duller of Blessing; three daughters, Mrs. J. I. Funeral Services For Mrs. Lena Duller, 59, Are Held Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Corse Duller, 59, of Blessing were held Monday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. E. F. Deutsch officiating and burial in Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. Duller, who had been in ill health for several weeks, was a resident of Matagorda County for 38 years.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Johnnie McKelvey of Bay City, Mrs. Jep Smith of Ingram; a son, Charles S. Duller of Tulsa, Okla.; and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Putnam of San Antonio.

Mrs. Lena C. Duller

Burial services for Mrs. Lena Corse Duller were held in the Palacios cemetery Monday, October 4, following funeral rites in the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City, with the Rev. E. F. Deutsch officiating. Mrs. Duller was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Seth Corse of Collegeport and had been a resident of Matagorda County 38 years. Blessing was her home for many years where she was an active worker in church and civic organizations. She had been an employee of the Southern States Construction Company for a number of years and a host of friends are saddened by her untimely death.

Rose Canfield Duller

Mrs. Charles E. Duller, was born Rose Canfield, August 25, 1876, in McLeod County, Minnesota, and was the youngest of 12 children born to her parents of whom three sisters and two brothers survive her. She passed away January 6, 1926 at her home in Blessing.

Her early life was spent in Minnesota where she grew to womanhood.

She was a graduate of the St. James High School and attended several sessions of the State Normal at Mankato and began to teach school when but 17 years of age.

She was married to Charles E. Duller on January 5, 1897, at Brownton, Minnesota. Her husband and four children survive her, Miss Alice E. Duller of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Jep Smith of Janesville, Louisiana, Charles E. Duller Jr. of Houston and Dorothy Duller of Blessing.

She came South in 1898, locating at Crowley, Louisiana.

She was a member of the Congregational Church from childhood until she joined the Presbyterian Church while in Crowley.

In 1904 Mr. and Mrs. Duller came to Bay City and with the exception of two years spent in the vicinity of San Antonio, have been residents of Matagorda County. Since coming to Matagorda County Mrs. Duller has at all times taken an active interest in all matters of social, religious and intellectual development and her name appears upon the charter of the Bay City Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. As one of the organizers of the Priscilla Club of Bay City, she was long since elected a life member thereof.

In the home, her life was that of an ideal wife and mother, over planning for the welfare and happiness of her husband and children.

Since her residence in Blessing she has endeared herself to a multitude of friends by her active interest in all public undertakings, her genial smiles, her charming hospitality and her willingness to help everyone in distress. She was one of the organizers Blessing Library Association and has always been present at all functions of the Library, school and Community House with her untiring willingness to assist in every way possible.

She will be mourned by a host of friends and acquaintances in Blessing and all over the county.

May God in His wisdom grant to her devoted husband and loving children the grace to bear with Christian fortitude a loss which time alone can alleviate.

Prominent Blessing Woman Dies Suddenly

Mrs. Charles E. Duller Passes Away After Stroke of Apoplexy; Burial Tomorrow.

The Tribune was advised by phone message from Blessing this morning that Mrs. Chas. E. Duller, prominent Blessing woman, and well and most favorably known throughout the county and this section, died suddenly at her home at 8 o’clock.

Mrs. Duller was stricken with apoplexy last evening at about 7 o’clock and never regained consciousness. The blow came suddenly and unexpectedly.

Funeral arrangements, at the time the message was received had not been completed, but burial will be had at Blessing tomorrow (Thursday).

Decedent is survived by her husband, Mr. Chas. E. Duller, two daughters and a son to whom The Tribune extends its heartfelt and deepest sympathy.

A more complete notice of this sad death of a most charming woman will be published in a later issue.

David Nathaniel Dunbar, age 87 years died at the residence of his son, C. D. Dunbar in Buckeye Friday morning after an illness of some months. Mr. Dunbar has been a resident of this county and the Ashby community for fifty years. He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Iva Harvey of Galveston , Mrs. Maide Moore of Houston, Mrs. Kate and Lois McKissick of Ashby and Mrs. Hibbie (Walter) Penny of Bay City and two sons, C. Beth Duncan, 91, of Angleton passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 in Angleton.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Angleton with Dr. Rodney Bowman officiating. Burial followed in the Angleton Cemetery. Visitation was from 3 p.m.  5 p.m. Sunday at Palms.

Beth was born September 10, 1917 to Phebe and Bill Anderson in Bay City, Texas. She was the oldest of three daughters. She graduated from Bay City High School at 16. She received her BS Degree from the University of Houston at 19. Beth returned to Bay City and started her teaching career.

On December 22, 1942 she married 1st. Sgt A.J. Hale in the First Baptist Church in New Orleans, La. After three months of marriage he was deployed to North Africa and Italy for 26 months. On his return to the States, he and Beth made their home in Bay City. In 1950, they moved to Angleton. They separated in 1964 and divorced the following year. Beth met Al Duncan in 1965 and they married the following year. After teaching 40 years, Beth retired in 1978. She always wished everyone could enjoy retirement as much as she did. She and Al enjoyed camping trips in their RV and made many trips in the U.S. building Southern Baptist Churches. After Al's death in 1997, Beth started traveling with a group of senior citizens from the First Baptist Church in West Columbia. Beth loved her church and church family. She could always be found in the First Baptist Church on Sunday mornings. Beth was a charter member of the Angleton-Danbury Hospital. She was also active in the Citizens Police Academy classes. She enjoyed shopping for the children in the Blue Santa Program. Beth liked to ride on patrol with different officers. Retirement was never dull!

Beths patio was a mass of colors from her geraniums, one of her favorite flowers.

One of her most beautiful memories was a reception hosted by her niece, Charlotte Drury, her great-niece Terri Adams and a friend Betty Illgen. This was a celebration of Beths 90th birthday. It was beautiful, it was fun and it was a good time afternoon for everyone.

Beth was preceded in death by: her Parents and her Sister Wilma Bradshaw and husband Al Duncan.

County’s Oldest Citizen Dies at Columbus, Fri.
John Duncan, Age 99, Born in Matagorda July 31, 1838

COLUMBUS—Tex., Aug. 6.—John Duncan, who celebrated his ninety-ninth birthday a week ago, died Friday at his home in Columbus.

Mr. Duncan was a native Texan. He was born in Matagorda July 31, 1838, on his father’s plantation. He was the county’s oldest citizen and was the oldest alumnus of the University of North Carolina. He received his B. A. degree from that college in 1859.

During the Civil War, he served four years in Colonel Bates’ regiment. In 1885 he married Miss India Green of Columbus. They moved to Columbus in the same year. Mrs. Duncan survives him.

Robert Ross Duncan, Jr., 61, of Sargent, TX passed away Saturday, January 03, 2009. He was born January 16, 1947 in Rockville Center, NY to Eleanor Fiebig and Robert R. Duncan Sr,

Formerly of Houston; he was a resident of Sargent for the past 8 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 146 of New Port Richey, FL and was a US Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife: Cecily Duncan of Sargent; mother: Eleanor Duncan of Newberry, FL; daughter: Christine Roach of Round Rock, TX; son: Mark Duncan of Houston, TX; sister Suzanne Bailey of Creedmoor, NC; and by 4 grandchildren.

Masonic funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Masonic Lodge # 865 of Bay City will be officiating.

Justin Tam Duong, age 6, of Port Lavaca died June 8, 2006. He was born September 12, 1999 in Houston, TX to Tam Le and Kim Nguyen Duong. Sylvia Oline Duran, 86, of Bay City passed away Oct. 26, 2009.

She was born Jan. 28, 1923 in Round Rock, Texas to the late Louis Alexander and Myrtle Matty Dunaway Watts.

Her husband D. B. Duran; son, L. M. Duran; and daughter, Bonnie Duran Claussen all preceded her in death.

Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Gwen Symmank; son-in-law, Donald L. Claussen; grandchildren, John Aaron Duran, Angela Denise Duran, Britt Lee Claussen and wife Michelle and Amy Lynn Claussen Schnieder and husband Adam; great grandchildren, John Daniel Duran, Heather Lynn Duran, Rachel Leanne Lawrence and Karma and Destiny Tealer; niece, Jan Davis and nephew Oland _Roy_ Davis.

Derward B. Duran

DURAN--Funeral services for Derward B. Duran, 68, of Van Vleck will be held 2 PM Wednesday at the Sixth Street Church of Christ with Sam Kitchen and James Davis officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck. Mr. Duran

Was born February 10^th 1921 in Bateman, Bastrop County, Texas to Bonnie Lee and Ola Pearl Baze Duran and died October 16^th 1989 at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.  In 1955 Mr. Duran went into business with his son for 26 years as an excavation contractor and rancher where he raised red and black angus cattle.

He was a member of the 100 Club of Matagorda County and Sixth Street Church of Christ. He had his own country-western band “Dagwood and the Sleeprobbers”.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Duran of Van Vleck; four grandchildren, John A. Duran, Angelia Duran, Britt L. Claussen, and Amy L. Claussen; and one great-grandson, John D. Duran.

Pallbearers include John A. Duran, Britt L. Claussen, Billy Ware, Don Justice, J. W. Massey, and Jimmy Hubbard.

Honorary pallbearers include Johnnie Sykes and Robert Bidales.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lyndal M. Duran, 14 1981 and his daughter, Bonnie Duran Claussen, in 1984.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Evelyn Fern Cameron Dybala, 69, of Van Vleck, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010.

She was born August 7, 1941 in Port Lavaca, to the late Cleeland Raymond Cameron and Margie Bowen Cameron. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She is survived by: her daughter, Julie L. Reissig of Van Vleck; sons, Cleeland Maritz Reissig of Nashville, Tennessee, and Shane Edward Dybala of Martinsville, Indiana; sister Mary Lou Yackel of Louise; brother, Cleeland Wayne Cameron of Pleasant Plain, Ohio; four grandchildren, Derrek Dybala, Devin Dybala, Blake Dybala and Chad Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Marvin Edward Dybala.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 16, 2010 at First Baptist Church on Highway 35 in Van Vleck.

Martha Jeanne Dyer

Mrs. Martha Jeanne Dyer, 54, 207 Henderson, Palacios, died Monday, November 13 in Wagner General Hospital. She was born November 10, 1924 in Palacios and was City Secretary and City Tax Assessor-Collector of Palacios for the past 20 years. The deceased was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Palacios, the Women’s Society of Christian Service and Tax Collector’s Association. Survivors include her husband, Oris Dyer, a son Steve Dyer, her father, Clarence Koontz all of Palacios, brothers Jim Koontz of Palacios and Clarence Koontz of Port Lavaca, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held today, Tuesday, 3:00 p. m. at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios. Rev. Carl L. W. Israel officiated. Interment Hawley Cemetery, Blessing. Pallbearers were Palacios Mayor Cliff Elliott, City Councilmen, Ray Garza, Johnny Heard, Jim Howard, Trinidad Constancio III and Leonard Lamar. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Palacios Volunteer Fire Department and fellow City employees. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Memorial Fund at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios.

Oris Dale Dyer

Funeral services for Oris Dale Dyer were held at 2 p. m. Sunday, December 23, in the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. Interment was in Hawley Cemetery.

Son of late Norman and Maybell Dyer, he was born August 16, 1918, in Blessing, Texas. A life long resident of Palacios-Blessing area, he died Saturday morning, December 22, in Wagner General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jean, on November 13, 1978.

Survivors include one son, Steve Dyer of Palacios and two sisters, Louise Adkins of Corpus Christi and Thelma Joyce of Longview.

Funeral services for Arthur Lee Dykes “Moss Ball,” 79, of Bay City will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the New Hope Baptist with the Rev. T. L. Richardson officiating.

Mr. Dykes died on August 21, 2010 at Matagorda Regional Medical center in Bay City. He was born in Milam County, Texas on February 4, 1931 to John and Ellen Dykes.

He is survived by: one daughter, Shirley O’Neal; one step daughter, Charlene Crockett; one step niece, Shelia Crockett; brother-in-law, Edward Crockett; grandson, John O’Neal Jr. (Kanica); two grandchildren, Aniyah & Jorden O’Neal; siblings, Dora Tellison (A.C), Hart Lee Dykes all of Bay City, Jame Dykes of Houston, Texas. He has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arthur Lee is preceded in death by: his wife, Addie Dykes; son, Terry Jackson; parents, John and Ellen Dykes; brother, Willie Lee Dykes; three sisters, Mary Widemon and Doris Woods both of Bay City and Johnnie Ray Hicks of Lubbock, Texas.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday August 27, 2010 at the funeral home.

Hart Lee Dykes Sr., age 80, of Bay City, Texas passed away on December 6, 2019 in Houston, Texas.

He was born in Lubbock, Texas on January 24, 1939 to John Dykes and Ellen Anderson Dykes.

Visitation and guest book registry will be on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City, Texas.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City, with burial to follow at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Among his survivors includes a daughter, Denise; three sons, Todd, Hart Lee Jr., and Billy Shawn; several grandchildren; and siblings; as well as an enormous host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Bouldin Dykes, April 14, 2007.

Mark Edward Dykes, 52, of Sugar Valley passed away July 20, 2007. He was born August 2, 1954 in Bay City, TX to Gene and Reta Dykes. He was a graduate of Van Vleck High School.

Survivors include his father: Gene Dykes of Sugar Valley; Brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill and Mary Dykes of Bay City, Curtis and Judy Dykes and Jeff and Gina Dykes of Sugar Valley; Nephews: Travis, Matthew, and Michael Dykes; Nieces: Beth Chapman and husband Ron, and Sadie Dykes; and a great nephew: Keith Chapman. He is preceded in death by his mother, Reta.

A baby girl named Rita Dianne Bouldin was born November 4, 1942 in Bay City, Texas to Welton and Beatrice Bouldin, the third of five children.

She attended public school at Hilliard High School in Bay City, Texas, where she was an active member of both the basketball and track teams.

She joined Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member until her health failed.

Rita was preceded in death: by her parents, stepmother, Ida Bouldin; sisters, Billie Jean Williams (Nanny), Brenda Joyce Wilkerson; and grandsons, Jonathan Brinkley and Billy Sean Dykes, Jr.

Rita leaves to cherish her precious memories: loyal loving husband, Hart Lee Dykes, Sr. of Bay City; four devoted children, Todd Chambers (Olga) of Oklahoma, B. Denise Chambers of Richmond, Hart Lee Dykes, Jr. (Joanie) of Sugarland, and Billy Sean Dykes of Pearland; loving grandsons, Allan Chambers, Chaz Chambers, Kevin Brown, Jalen Dykes, Sean E. Dykes, and Draeton Dykes; sister, Janet Hart (Wilson) of Bay City; brother, Welton J. Theola Dykes
 

William E. “Gene” Dykes, 83, of Sugar Valley passed away October 15, 2008.

He was born July 30, 1925 in Coffee County, Georgia to Pearl Rutherford Williams and Izaiah Z. Dykes, Sr. He joined the US Army infantry during World War II, seeing combat in the Ardennes Forest at the Battle of the Bulge. He worked in the Parts Department at Anderson Bros. and retired in the early 70’s to his land in Sugar Valley.

Survivors include his three sons, Bill and wife Mary of Bay City, Curtis and wife Judy, and Jeff and wife Gina of Sugar Valley; grandchildren, Beth Chapman and husband Ron, Travis, Sadie, Matthew, and Michael Dykes; and a great grandson, Keith Chapman.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Reta; daughter, Mary Elizabeth; son, Mark Dykes; brothers, Wendall, Ivy Glenn, Clyde, Jimmy and I. Z. Dykes; and his sisters, Sadie Dykes Teague and Gladys Dykes Brawner.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the First Baptist Church, Hwy. 35, in Van Vleck, Texas.
