Mr. Andrew Zahradnik died at his home in El Maton, Monday afternoon at 4:50. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Alarin Zahradnik and one son, Pvt. Robert L. Zahradnik of Kessler Field, Miss. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the Catholic Church in Blessing. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Taylor Bros.

Devoted and Faithful Man of God, with God all things are possible. Thomas “Tommy, TZ” Zarate, 69, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Hospice Brazos Valley, with his family by his side. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station with the Rev. Will Fountain officiating Interment followed at Memorial Cemetery of College Station. Visitation was from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Tommy was born March 7, 1946, in Buckeye, the son of Gergoria and Marie (Osuna) Zarate. He was the youngest of 17 children. Tommy worked in the Texas Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association industry for many years. He worked with a tireless energy, motivated with a driven heart, doing what he loved and was born to do. In his career, he accomplished many set records in the world of Quarter Horse Racing, with the fastest qualifying times and wins, and broke and trained several champion horses. Even after a battle with his heath, he came back to win three of the biggest races in his career, The All American Futurity, Sam Houston Derby and Sires Cup Derby. Tommy has left this world setting a legacy of never quitting and running your race until the end. He showed us, with faith in God, all things are possible. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marcelino and Rosendo; half-brother, Francisco; and a sister, Paula. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jocelyn (Vasquez) Zarate; children, Audrea (Zarate) Gannaway and Bridget Zarate; four grandchildren, Zachary D Huff, Kaleb B. Drake, Natalie J. Drake and Daniel G. Gannaway; brothers and sisters, Julian Zarate, George Zarate, Joyce Cantu, Alonzo Zarate, Carmel Zarate, Phil Zarate, Margaret Parrado, Hope Villareal, Lupe Zarate, Mary Escobar, Natalie Valadez, Amada Gonzales and Emilio Zarate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kingdom Ranch Church Building Fund or Hospice Brazos Valley. Philippians 3:13-14 - Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Luis Zavala, Sr., 60, of Blessing passed away January 24, 2015. He was born in Piedras Negras, Mexico to the late Antonio Zavala and Julia Carrillo Zavala on August 26, 1954. He is survived by his wife Bertha Esquivel Zavala of Blessing; four children Irene Esquivel (Hugo) of Blessing, Luis R. Zavala, Jr. (Erica) of Palacios, Lucinda M. Rubio (Rigo) of El Campo and Julia N. Ibarra (Gilbert) of Pearsall; four grandchildren who were his world, Nathan Ray and Hanna N. Zavala & Michael and Morgan Ibarra; two sisters Maria del Rosario Reyes and Inocencia Aguilar of Lufkin, TX; four brothers, Telesforo Zavala of Lufkin, TX, Jacobo Zavala & Jesus Zavala of Piedras Negras, MX and Leopoldo Zavala of Elsa, TX and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. ZEMANEK, JR., Dr. Joseph Age 87, entered into Heaven on October 5, 2015 in Duncanville, TX. Dr. Zemanek was born on January 1, 1928 on a farm near Blessing, Texas to Joseph and Kristina Zemanek. He attended the University of Texas where he obtained his BSEE and he graduated from UCLA with a PhD in physics in 1962. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. He married Maurine Hamilton, the love of his life, in 1950, with their union producing two daughters. Joe accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior on his 21st birthday and shared a close walk with the Lord by his side for 66 years. Dr. Zemanek worked for Mobil Oil for 39 years and traveled the world extensively. He was known across the industry for his contributions to the field of geophysics, specifically to cutting edge technology in the field of well logging. He retired in 1990 as the Senior Scientist for Mobil Oil having been granted 50 patents and authoring 13 technical papers. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Liddie Pavelka; brother, Victor; sister, Martha Johnston; & daughter, Marsha Lynn Zemanek Snow. Dr. Zemanek is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maurine; their daughter, Brenda Kay Nunley and spouse, Mark, of Houston; his son-In-law, Ray Snow of Ft. Worth; & grandchildren, Matthew Snow and spouse, Jenny of Ft. Worth, Bonnie Snow Daman and spouse, John of Ft. Worth, Ashley Nunley Lillis and spouse, Chris of Houston, Courtney Nunley Coffman and spouse, Ben of Houston; sister, Sidney Bridewell of Dallas; & 6 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held 6-8 pm on Wednesday, October 7, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville, TX. Isaac “Yaca” Rodriguez Zepeda Sr., 90, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014. He was born January 20, 1924, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Guadalupe and Lina Rodriguez Zepeda. Isaac served in the Army during WWII. He was in the Normandy Invasion, where he became a prisoner of war in Germany. Isaac worked for the Rice Belt Co-op as an operator in Markham. He liked to hunt, fish and was a life-time member of the El Buen Pastor Presbyterian Church and Phillip Parker VFW Post 2438. He was an avid gardener, growing fruit trees and vegetables. He is preceded in death by his wife, Delores Arias Zepeda; children, Mary Aguilar, Gloria Acosta, Yolanda Aguilar and Isaac Zepeda Jr.; four brothers; and four sisters. Isaac is survived by 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Paul Zepeda; sister, Martha Zepeda Guzman; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family received visitors on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. The funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, October 24, 2014, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City with Pastor Alex Lopez officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, under the auspices of Phillip Parker VFW Post 2438. away Saturday, March 15, 2003 in Sweeny, Texas.
Karen Marguerite Zernicek, 65, of Bay City, TX, passed away November 6, 2015. She was born June 1, 1950, in Baton Rouge, LA, to Herbert Maxwell Bagby Jr. and Hazel Faye Cox Bagby. She was formerly employed by Bay City ISD Administration. Her father preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Amy Wisdom of Bay City, Irene Davis of Jasper, Alabama and Amy Negron of Texas City; son, Anthony Zernicek of Austin; brothers, Timothy J. Bagby of Bay City and Maxwell “Max” Bagby of Houston; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her memory will be honored at a memorial service at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Bay City, TX, with the Rev. Greg Korenek officiating.

Emil A. Zernicek, 58, of Bay City, died Friday, July 1, 1977, at the V. A. Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born April 14, 1919, in Waller. Survivors include his wife Delores Zernicek of Bay City; daughters Janice and Priscilla Zernicek of Bay City; sons Emil J. Zernicek of Texas City, George Zernicek of El Campo, Steven and Mark Zernicek of Bay City; brothers Joe Zernicek of Bay City, Ludwig Zernicek of Wadsworth; sisters Mrs. Josephine Green of Wadsworth, Mrs. Martha Owen of Bay City, Mrs. Louise Seward of Dutchmills, Arkansas, Mrs. Frances Huggins of Wharton.
He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Rosary was held at 7:30 PM, Sunday July 3, in the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was said at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 4, 1977, with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial was in the Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Melvin Huggins, Alfonse Cerny, Alfred Cerny, Dan Welfel, Brice Green, and Ludwig Zernicek. Services were under the direction of Dick R. Elkins’ Bay City Funeral Home.
