Marchelle Annette “Hopes” Walker Life's Story On Thursday, September 5, 1968, Eugenia and Oneal Hopes, Jr. welcomed their baby girl, Marchelle Annette into the world. Marchelle, affectionately called Chell by her family, grew up playing sports with her brothers. She enjoyed playing basketball, softball and running track during her early years. Marchelle was an avid reader. Give her a good novel and she would lose herself within the words on the pages for hours on end. She graduated from Bay City High School in 1987 and went on to attend Prairie View A & M University and majored in accounting. Following her stay at Prairie View she returned to Bay City and worked in the day care industry caring for children for several years. She went on to work in the hospitality industry in a hotel reservations department. Marchelle then made a career move to work as a contractor for PMI (formally STP) for 32 years. It was at STP that she started in maintenance and worked her way up to being an operator and for the last 15 years of her career worked in human resources. Marchelle was also a foodie! She enjoyed Chinese food, seafood, fried foods, and sweets… yes, cakes and pies! Not only did she enjoy eating but she was an awesome cook as well. Others loved her enchilada casserole, ox tails, and gumbo. Additionally, she was a food critic in her own right. Her adventurous palate led her to taste many different cuisines. Some of which were pleasing and others she left saying, “man we not going to go there no mo!” Chell loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was known for taking care of her family. She was the glue that helped hold the relatives together. She helped raise her nieces and nephews and it was normal to see her supporting them at their games. She was also one who was honest and did not hesitate to tell others what was right and wrong. Marchelle was a leader at home and at work who was well respected, proved herself to be a determined worker and always trustworthy. On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Marchelle gained her wings. She will be missed… no more daily conversations, aromas from her delicious foods, or just simply sitting around relaxing and talking with family and friends. Those who will often reflect on these and other precious memories include her husband, Michael Walker; mother: Eugenia Hopes of Bay City, TX; siblings: Alvin Bishop of Bay City, TX, Lethridge Callis of Freeport, TX, Manvel (Yusleney) Hopes of Carrolton, TX, and Mazie Bedford of Hallettsville, TX; mother-in-law, Mamie Walker Brown of Houston, TX; sister-in-law: Josephine (Ronald) Scott or Angleton, TX; nieces and nephews: Lawanna, Tawanna, Natasha, Juwan, Laylanna, Brianna, Chasity, Aaliyah, Mariyah, Jvon, Joel, Dominique, Randal, Kendall, and her favorite, Rapheal Jr.; along with a host of family, friends, and loved ones. In these times we remember those who made the transition before her including her father Oneal Hopes, Jr., brother: Rapheal Hopes, Sr.; sister-in-law Lisa Callies; grandparents: Eldridge & Mertle Callies; aunt and uncles: Bennie Gee Callies, Elder Lee Callies, Pearl Lee Johnson, Author Lee Callies, Sr., Levi Callies, Jerline Roberson, and Doris Brown.

She was capable of being funny, thoughtful, somber, outgoing, and introverted, all within the course of a few hours. She was an amazing writer and was incredibly creative and talented. She had great love for animals and rescued as many as she could. She was involved in various rescue groups and many of her friends were made through her work with animals. Truth be told, Mick preferred being in the company of animals over humans any day. Before she passed, Melia asked her if she would like to help write her obituary. Micki replied, “if you’re reading this, I was eaten by a lion and am dead.” When she was first diagnosed with cancer, she promised her granddaughter, Carliegh, that she would live until she was a teenager. Micki kept her promise! That lion ate her three days after Carleigh’s thirteenth birthday. Micki will be greatly missed by her family and friends, to include her fur babies. During her last days, so many of you expressed how you wished you had more time with her. We all wish we could have had more time. She was loved more than she realized, and our lives are richer for having known her. She is resting in the arms of Jesus. On Monday, June 6, 1966 a beautiful baby girl was born to Willie and Georgia Griggs who was named Vendetta Wynise Griggs by their sister at heart Carolyn Griggs “Beverly Ann” who was honored to be named her GODmother. Vendetta was affectionately known by all who knew and love her as “Wyn”. Wyn was truly the apple of her daddy’s eye. Reflections of Audrey On Saturday, March 1, 1947, Annie Woodard and Charlie Rutherford announced the birth of their baby girl, Audrey Mae. Growing up, Audrey was a studious child. While her siblings were outside playing Audrey could be found sitting quietly for hours reading a good book. She was an honor roll student who was listed on the National Honor Society. Yes, she was a walking encyclopedia full of knowledge. In school, not only was she strong academically, but she was also on the drill and basketball teams. She graduated from A. G. Hillard High School in Bay City, Texas with honors. Not long after graduation, Audrey married the love of her life, Thomas Roberson, Jr. and they started raising their family. She was a working mom who cooked meals for others at work and came home and cooked a full meal including desserts for her family. She loved her family and caring for others. She was one of those neighborhood moms who not only took care of her kids but it was commonplace to find nine to ten kids at her house, and yes… she would feed them well! She loved the Lord and didn’t mind sharing her faith. When she was young, she attended Enterprise Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A. H. Pointer. Later in life she united with New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. T. L. Richardson. She believed in serving in ministry. From working with children to learn their Easter speeches to serving on the usher board, or working the Ministry of Helps. She also was known for mailing cards with words of encouragement to others. Most people in her circle of friends in Bay City or someone in their family has received a card from her for either their birthday, during a time of bereavement, experiencing a bout with illness, or just a thinking of you card to brighten their day. This, for her was one of the powerful ways she showed love and care for others. For years, Audrey worked in retail and was the manager for several companies including Dillard’s, Del Taco, as well as Palais Royal. She enjoyed working in retail and loved helping people get fitted for special events. Additionally, she worked for herself. From selling electricity to help people combat the high energy cost to selling them insurance, she was a true entrepreneur at heart. Audrey was also a master seamstress. She was so good as a seamstress that she would design and tailored her daughters’ prom dresses. When other students would see the dresses she made for her daughters they would seek her designer originals for themselves. When she was not working, cooking, sewing, or helping others, you could find her with a crossword puzzle book in her hand. She was also a TV buff. She appreciated a good episode with Fred, Lamont, and Esther in Sanford & Son; Victor and Mrs. Chancellor in The Young and The Restless; watching someone try to explain their way out of getting caught in an episode of Cheaters; or keeping up with local and national news stories. Audrey enjoyed watching TV. She would also read the newspaper EVERYDAY! She looked forward to getting out of the house and attending football or basketball games. On Thursday, January 25, 2024, she gained her wings. There are many things that we will miss about her. We will miss the long conversations. We will miss enjoying the holidays with her. We will miss her eating and cooking Mexican foods; as well as her saying “Hey Darling, I know that’s right!” Most of all we will miss the smile she kept on her face even through the many health challenges that she endured. It brings us comfort knowing that she loved us and God blessed us to know and love her. We will hold on and live up to her legacy, her children: Annette Williams of Duncanville, TX, Ralph Roberson, Edwin Roberson, and Kirby Roberson of Bay City, TX; grandchildren, Chris (Asia) Coleman, Gregory Williams, and Jaden Allen; great grandchildren: Addison Coleman and Cannon Coleman; siblings Veda Rutherford of Bay City, TX; god-children: Sean Clay and Robert Taylor along with a host of other family, friends, and loved ones. In times like these we remember those who have gone before her including her husbands, Thomas Roberson, Jr. and Dwayne Wilkins; her daughter Claudette Allen, grandson, Lance Williams; her parents: Annie Woodard and Charlie Rutherford and her siblings, Shirley Caldwell, Willard Don Rutherford, and Eddie Glenn Rutherford.

Violet Radell Williams, better known as Radell or Memaw to her grandchildren, took her final trip to her home in Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior on October 5, 2023. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on September 9, 1947, to Ray E. an Eddell Virginia Stilwell. She passed away after a long period of extreme pain and suffering from pancreatic cancer. Even though she was just 5’1” tall, she stayed strong and encouraged others with her big smile. Because the light of the Good Lord was shining through her, even those who were strangers wanted to talk to her everywhere she went. She was mostly self-educated, taking online college courses and learning to type. She worked at seven different banks throughout Texas for a total of 27 years in different positions. All of the customers loved her and wanted her to take care of them. Even to this day we hear some of the customers coming in and asking for her. Radell loved all animals, but especially hummingbirds and butterflies and taking care of all stray dogs and cats. She loved planting plants that would attract birds and butterflies. She loved sewing clothes for her granddaughters. She was a natural painter and artist who never took a course. She was a dyed-in-the-wool Dallas Cowboys football fan. You didn’t want to call her during a game; she would get very upset! Because her husband was a Texas Game Warden and was gone for many hours and sometimes for days at a time, football and going to church were her favorite pastimes. She would go to church seven days a week, if she could, to help with whatever they needed. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mexia, Texas. The summer she received the Lumen Gentium Award from the Catholic Diocese of Austin for her life, service, and participation in the ministry of Christ Jesus and the Church. She will be truly missed by us all. Her family can’t even begin to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from multiple denominations all over the world, including from the West Wall in Jerusalem. She is survived by her mother, Eddell Virginia Kramer of Mexia, Texas; her loving husband of nearly 40 years, Harvey “Burt” Williams; her daughter, Stacey Cantu and her husband Gary of Colleyville, Texas; son, Jerry Milam and wife Kristen of Garland, Texas; daughter, Amy McHugh and husband John of Georgetown, Texas; son-in-law, Sheppard Parker of Bertram, Texas; and her numerous grandchildren, McKayla, Nate, Nic, Noah, Charlie, Molly, Emily, Maggie, Joshua, Addie, Isaac, Zoe, Kai, Autumn and Griffin. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray E. Stilwell; and her daughter, Michelle Parker. A private family ceremony will be held later. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mexia, Texas; The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews; The Waco Hospice, Animal Rescue of North Texas, or The Kittery in Mexia, Texas. Our beloved sister, and aunt, Florence Bernice Wuthrich (Pill) of Mackey, Texas was called home to be with her lord at 4pm August 10th 2024 at age 86 in Wharton surrounded by her family. She was born on December 29th 1937to John C. and Lydia Schultz Wuthrich of Mackey, Texas and came home as the youngest of their 4 children. She was raised on the family farm in Mackey and graduated from Crescent High School in 1955. She attended Wharton County Junior College and Sam Houston State University in Huntsville where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education. After college, she embarked on a lifelong career in education starting as an elementary teacher in El Campo ISD. After a year or two, she moved to Bay City ISD and taught 3rd grade at Tenie Holmes Elementary school for the remainder of her 35 years in the classroom. After retirement, Florence continued to take long term substitute assignments at the school. She loved being an educator. Florence was a faithful lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wharton where she was baptized on January 16th 1938. She taught in the church’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School program for years. At the time of her illness, she was still involved with keeping the attendance records for St. John’s Sunday School. Florence loved Spending time with family, and life on the farm. She would always come back to the farm on weekends where she loved spending time with her parents. After her fathers death in 1983, Florence became the primary caregiver for her mom (Lydia) while living with her at the family farm. They both greatly enjoyed family gatherings and Florence was always there to help her mother around the house and kitchen especially for noon meals on Sunday after service. They both loved that time with family and many memories were made on those Sundays. While Florence never married, her tender heart, and great way with youngsters, and her willingness to get on the floor and play with the kids, plus the fact that she lived weekends at the farm quickly made her the preferred place to go when away from home. As a kid growing up, a day at the farm playing games with Pill and her Mom(our grandma) was always a favorite thing to do. She taught us skills like how to play croquet, tie our shoelaces (the rabbit ear way), how to stand up dominoes so that when you pushed one over, they’d all fall down one by one, and bake cookies all often in the same weekend. It was a great time to be a kid and I often think she would reflect on what a great time she thought it was to be our Aunt. As time passed and we all got older, her 6 nephews would get together and remember the good times growing up with our Aunt Pill. We would recall all the good stories, but when we’d look up she would be playing with the two Great Nieces and two Great Nephews. Many times outside or playing London Bridges on the floor, or standing dominoes on the kitchen table in the house at the farm. Still just as energetic as with us. This playful demeanor and the cookies that were always on the kitchen counter right by the microwave continued to make a day or weekend at the farm memorable. Her nephew Philip’s children learned where the cookies were kept before they could even see over the kitchen counter. And then they grew up… and they remembered all the good time out at the farm will Pill. And finally the time came when there were Great, Great Nieces and Nephews. And you guessed it, we would look up and Pill would be playing with the kids outside or games inside. She was over 80 years old and London Bridges would fall far more times than I’d cared to get up, but not for Pill. It was like the child’s laughter was a magic elixir granted her powers. There was little doubt about where she stood, and what mattered to her. Even for a small child you knew of her love for each one of us, and also for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As certain as there were cookies to be found on the counter by the microwave, she was going to be found in God’s house on Sunday. In the end, her lord called her to be with him on Saturday, August 10th. She answered faithfully. I can only imagine at some point she was told. “Pill, three generations is enough”. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lydia Wuthrich, and her brother-in-law Edwin Peter. She is survived by her two brothers Jim and wife Joan of Bryan, Delvin and his wife Eileen of Wharton, sister LaVerne Peter of Bay City, Nephews Gary and Bobbie Peter of Bay City, Philip and Jalene Wuthrich of Wharton, Larry and Missy Wuthrich of San Antonio, John and Joy Wuthrich of Wharton, David and Tara Wuthrich of Houston, and Dr. Paul and Cristi Wuthrich of Bryan. Numerous Great and Great Great Nieces and Nephew. She loved them all. Pallbearers are: Ron Boerger, Michael Beard, Brent Wuthrich, Luke Wuthrich, Ryan Wuthrich, and Ervin Zahn. Visitation will be at Wharton Funeral Home on Wednesday August 14th 2024 between 5:30-8pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday August 15th 2024 at 10am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wharton Texas with a graveside service following afterward at evergreen memorial park. Memorial donations in memory of Florence can be made to the Memorial Fund of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Wharton. Cards are available at the Funeral Home or Church.
