Samuel Lewis Sain
Samuel Lewis Sain, 72, of Bay City died
at Matagorda General Hospital November 30, 2002.
He was born July 5,1930 in Graford, Texas to the late Samuel Richard
and Dolly Jane Wright Sain. He was resident of Bay City the past 35
years.
Mr. Sain was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
His generosity and caring will be greatly missed.
His devotion to his family and our Lord was boundless.
Survivors include: wife, Margie Matura Sain of Bay City; daughters,
Penny Sain Cachia and Nikki Sain Barker both of Bay City; step-sons,
Joey Billeau and his wife, Crystal of Markham, and Chris Billeau of
Bay City; three granddaughters, Madison Traniello of Bay City,
Shelby and Caitlin Billeau both of Markham.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Agnus Minton and brothers,
Harry and Richard Sain.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at the
First United Methodist Church of Van Vleck with the Rev’s Sam Starks
and Linday Maxcey officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van
Vleck.
Pallbearers will be David and Daniel Barker, Richard Minton, Ronnie
Sain, Buck Stovall and Robert Quick.
Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 219, Van
Vleck, Texas.

Armand “A. B.”
“Sonny” Ben Salas, 75, of Van Vleck
passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011,
after fighting an extended illness.
He was born
on June 16, 1935, in Blessing, Texas.
He was married to his love, Virginia
“Ginger” Kubala Salas on September 21,
1967, for 26 years.
He is
proceeded in death by: his wife Ginger
Salas on January 27, 1994; and his
daughter, Robin Salas Dunham, on
November 3, 1990; and both of his
parents, Rosemary and Ben Salas; and his
brothers, Carl Salas and Mike Salas.
He is
survived by: his son, Sloan Salas of Van
Vleck and his favorite dog, Chico.
Armand also leaves behind siblings and
in-laws, Elaine Broll of Wharton, Paul
and Joyce Salas of Bryan, Ray and Peggy
Salas of Boling, Rosemary Prochaska of
Wharton, Sandra and Allen Stavinoha of
Wharton and Wayne and Carolyn Salas of
Lufkin. He is also survived my many
nieces and nephews.
Armand was
listed in the U.S. Army from September
23, 1954, until September 6, 1956, as a
Private First Class. He was stationed at
Fort Chaffee Arkansas.
Armand spent
many of his younger years as a roughneck
in the oil field. He was retired from
Florida Gas Pipeline with over 25 years
of service.
Armand loved
spending time with his family fishing on
Lake Texana over the years. He was found
most of the time outdoors and was an
avid hunter.
He spent his
most recent years of retirement sitting
on his Kubota Mule with his dog Chico
checking cows and herding sheep.
There will
be a viewing at Wharton Funeral Home
from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March
24, 2011. The funeral service with a
rosary will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday,
March 25, 2011, at the Wharton Funeral
Home Chapel in Wharton.
The burial
will follow at
Roselawn
Memorial Park
in Van Vleck.
Pallbearers
will be Ben Salas, Brian Stavinoha, Dale
Prochaska, Eric Salas, Keith Stavinoha,
Kevin Salas, Matt Salas, and Scott
Salas. Honorary Pallbears are Allen
McNeil and Doug Dunham.

Ben Salas, 89, of Pledger, Texas died
Thursday March 7. 2002. He was born January 18, 1913 in Schulenburg,
Texas to the late Vine and Mary Barbara Hajek Salas.
He is survived by: daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary Prochaska,
Sandra and Allen Stavinoha of Wharton, and Willie Broll all of
Wharton; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Wayne and Carolyn Salas of
Lufkin, Paul and Joyce Salas of Bryan, Mike and Lynette Salas of
Pledger, and Ray and Peggy Salas of Boling; 21 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie Salas, son, Carl Salas,
granddaughter Robin Salas Durham and great granddaughter, Brooke
Salas.
A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002 at Taylor
Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday,
March 11, 2002 at Holy Cross Catholic Church of Bay City with the
Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn
Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Funeral services for Rosie Smith Salas, 77, of Pledger were
scheduled for 10 am today at
Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Rev. Joe Koebel officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.
A rosary was held 7:30 pm Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic
Church, Boling.
Mrs. Salas was born Aug. 28, 1910, in Wharton to Sam and Etta
Ricks Smith and died Jan. 3, 1988, at her residence.
A resident of Pledger since 1941, she was a member of the
Catholic church.
Survivors include her husband, Ben Salas of Pledger; three
daughters, Rose Mary Prochaska, Sandra Stavinoha and Elaine
Broll, all of Wharton; five sons, Armand, Mike and Ray Salas of
Pledger, Dr. Wayne Salas of Lufkin and Paul Salas of Bryan; two
sisters, Alta LeTulle of Markham and Evelyn Polk of Old Ocean;
two brothers, Lester Smith of Bay City and Ewel Smith of
Woodruff, S.C.; 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included her grandsons: Ben, Eric, Kevin and Scott
Salas, Dale Prochaska and Keith Stavinoha. Honorary pallbearers
included Sloan, Danny and Matthew Salas and Brian Stavinoha.
She was preceded in death by a son, Carl F. Salas.
Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Pasqual "P.M." Salazar, Jr. 68, of Van
Vleck, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2000. He was born November 10,
1931 in Cuero, DeWitt County, TX to Pasqual M. Salazar, Sr. and
Victoria Mireles Salazar. He was a resident of Van Vleck for the
past 39 years, was a retired plumber, a member of Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church, and a Board Member of Matagorda County
Water District Nbr. 6 in Van Vleck. He was married May 29, 1950 in
DeWitt County to Janie Rodriguez.
He is survived by: his wife, Janie R. Salazar of Van Vleck; by his
daughters and sons-in-law, Rosie and Felipe Hernandez, Cynthia
Salazar, Betty and Anthony Jimenez, Dora Salazar, and Irma and Frank
Gamez, all of Van Vleck; by his sisters, Rafaela Garcia of Bay City,
Helen Trevino of Cuero, Benilde Mendez of Robstown, and Enemencia
Munoz of Schulenburg; by his brothers, Mariano Salazar, John Salazar
and Roman Martinez, all of Houston and Nemecio Salazar of LaMesa,
Texas; and by ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Pasqual, Sr. and Victoria
Salazar; by his son, Pasqual Salazar, III; and numerous brothers and
sisters.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Taylor Bros. Funeral
Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27,
2000 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Chruch with Rev. Edward Boren
officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van
Vleck.

Rudy Navarro Sanchez, 18, of Palestine, formerly of Bay City,
died at Palestine Hospital following an automobile accident on
April 13, 1979. Survivors are his parents Domingo and Janie
Sanchez of Palestine; sisters, Rosemary, Debra Jean and Melissa;
brothers, Ramiro, Walter and Joe Angel, all of Palestine; nephew
Bruce Lee Buffaloe of Winnie. Funeral services will be held at
Our Lady of Guadalupe on Monday, April 16 at 11 am, officiated
by Rev. Joseph Shannon. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial
Park. A rosary will be held Sunday at 7 pm. Arrangements were

Funeral services for Ethel Mae Sansing will be held at 2 pm Sunday
Aug. 3 in Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hollie
Briscoe officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van
Vleck.
Mrs. Sansing, 78, was born in Bay City Jan. 21, 1908 to John
Jefferson Mangum, Sr. and the former Hallie Lee. She died July 31,
1986, in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. A former longtime
resident of New Gulf and a resident of Bay City since 1965, she was
a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, William F. Sansing Jr. of Bay City,
Herman L. Sansing of Austin, and James D. Sansing of Richmond,
Texas; a sister, Mabel Sherry of Bay City; and two brothers, Jeff
Mangum Jr. of Reno, Nev. And Glenn Mangum of Bay City.
In lieu of the usual contributions, donations may be made to the
First Baptist Church Christian Life Center.

Alice Matilda
McEwen Sauer, 87, of Sugar Valley, passed away on November 18, 2007
at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Wharton, TX after battling pancreatic
cancer. She was born on February 3, 1920 in Buckman Township,
Morrison County, Minnesota to Harold Fiddis and Matilda Anne Kalis
McEwen. She graduated from Royalton High School and St. Cloud
Teachers College. Alice taught in the Crosby-Ironton School District
and Columbia Heights public school. She married Gerald Clement Sauer
on June 14, 1952 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton, MN.
They were stationed at various Air Force bases, eventually moving to
Orlando, FL in August 1959. She helped found the Pinecastle Home
Extension Club in 1968, serving as its first president. After her
three children reached school age, she resumed her teaching career
as a substitute teacher for the Orange County School District.
Gerald and Alice were active members of Blessed Trinity Catholic
Church and the local Scotty Camping Club. In 1993 they moved to
Sugar Valley, TX. Alice then became an active member of the
Matagorda County FCE, Matagorda County Genealogical Society, and Our
Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sweeny, TX. After the
death of her husband, Gerald, she became a member of Holy Cross
Catholic Church in Bay City. She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband Gerald, brothers Harold and Linus McEwen, and
granddaughter Becky Stafford. Survivors include: son, Paul Sauer of
Sugar Valley; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary & David Garner of
Flower Mound, TX, and Karen & Ed Stafford of Sugar Valley, TX;
granddaughter and husband, Melissa & Jason Jurek of Markham; and
granddaughters, 1st Lt Mary E. Garner of Moore, OK, and Catherine
Garner of Flower Mound, TX. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday
at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home by Deacon Wally Rodriguez and the
funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at
Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Casey Jarzombek officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn
Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be
Joe Labuda, Richard Stafford, David Bridgwater, Darve Smith, Mike

Gerald C. Sauer
Gerald C. Sauer, 84, of Sugar Valley,
died March 2, 2003 at his residence. He was born March 31, 1918 in
Royalton, Minnesota to the late Martin Matthew and Mathilda Julia
Stodolka Sauer.
Mr. Sauer was called to active duty in 1942 and served in the signal
corps in the South Pacific and in the occupation of Japan.
In 1947 he transferred to the Air Force and served as administrative
specialist. He retired from the military in 1964 with 23 years of
service.
He then went to work for the Florida Dept. of Agriculture and
retired again in 1980. At that time, he and his wife pursued their
love of travel and genealogy, visiting many friends and family in
the United States and Canada.
Gerald was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in
Sweeny, the Retired Officers Association and the Matagorda Co.
Genealogy Society, and was a resident of Sugar Valley since 1993.
Survivors include: wife of 50 years, Alice McEwen Sauer of Sugar
Valley; son, Paul Sauer of Sugar Valley; daughters and sons-in-law,
Mary and David Garner of Flower Mound, and Karen and Ed Stafford of
Sugar Valley; granddaughters, Melissa Stafford of Sugar Valley, Mary
E. Garner of College Station, and Catherine Garner of Flower Mound;
sister, Evelyn Worner of Paynesville, Minnesota; and many nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother Arthur Sauer; and
granddaughter Becky Stafford.
A rosary was held 7 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home and
the funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at
Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Lee Flores officiating.
Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Joe Labuda, Darve Smith, Al Hackworth, Mike Jacobs,
John Stafford and Richard Stafford. Memorials may be made to Our

Teri Ann Bona Schrader, 30, of Van
Vleck, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000 in Houston, Texas. She
was born October 18, 1970 in Bay City to William Harvey Bona and
Lyndelle Chasak Bona. She was a lifelong resident of Matagorda
County, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a teacher at
Linnie Roberts Elementary School and a member of various Team Roping
Associations.
She is survived by: husband, William Robert Schrader, Jr. of Van
Vleck; daughter, Megan Taylor Schrader, of Van Vleck; parents,
Lyndelle and Bill Bona of Bay City; grandmother, Otha Bona of Bay
City; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William R.
Schrader of Madisonville, and Judith T. Cabeen of Beaumont, Texas;
sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cindy Kay and John Muskiet of Bay
Cityh and by her niece and nephew Whitney and Chance Muskiet of Bay
City.

Mrs. Celia Harriett Scoggins, of
Rockport, Ill, passed away in Matagorda General Hospital on
December 15. Mrs. Scoggins had been visiting with her son, Jack
Scoggins, of Bay City, for the past several weeks. Services
will be held Saturday, December 18 at 10:00 am at the Bay City
Funeral Home Chapel. Survivors include her son, Jack; one
sister, Mrs. C. G. Prentice of Rockford, Ill.; one grandson,
John L. Scoggins of Houston and one great grand-son. Interment
will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Elaine McDaniel Scoggin
Elaine McDaniel Scoggin, of Bay City,
passed away June 22, 2004 at her residence following a long battle
against cancer. Her steadfast Christian faith and values have
enabled her to finally rest in peace with her Lord.
She was born in Freestone County, Texas, the youngest of the six
children of James and Maggie DeSpain McDaniel.
Upon graduation from Mexia High School, she attended Hillsboro
Junior College and North Texas State University where she received a
teaching degree. She taught school for thirty-seven years in Texas
and mainly Matagorda County.
During World War II, she met Jack Scoggin at Camp Hulen near
Palacios and they were married in 1946. They were married 45 years
until his death in 1991.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, all of her
siblings, including her sister, Pearl McDaniel Wren, who raised her
when their mother died.
She is survived by: son, John Leslie Scoggin of Bay City; grandson
and his wife, Steven and Kristen Scoggin of Dallas and their
children, Elaine's great-grandchildren, Brooke and Jack Scoggin; as
well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at the
Bay City Funeral Home chapel with Arden Aldrige of The First
Christian Church of Bay City officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

John “Jack” S. Scoggin
Funeral service for John “Jack” S. Scoggin, 69, of Bay City will be
held 2 pm Tuesday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Dave

Burial followed services
at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.
Mr. Scoggin was born Sept
28, 1921, to Jessie and Cecelia Tracy Scoggin in Rockford, Ill., and
died April 20, 1991, at Matagorda General Hospital.
A resident of Bay City for
45 years, he served in WW II as a sergeant in the 482nd
Artillery Aircraft Battery. He participated in the European theater
and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for Central Power
and Light for 37 years as a foreman for the line crew. He was a
member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Scoggin of Bay City; one son and
daughter-in-law, John L. and Cheryal Scoggin of Broken Arrow, Okla.;
one grandchild, Steven Ross Scoggin and two step grandchildren,
Jennifer and Arron Scoggin. Services are under the direction of
Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.

John Leslie Scoggin

John Leslie Scoggin, 57, died Sunday,
Oct. 9, 2005 in Dallas, Texas.
He was born in Bay City, Texas, on Nov. 23, 1947, to Jack and Elaine
Scoggin.
He attended school in Bay City and military school in Kerrville,
Texas. He also attended Wharton County Junior College.
He was involved in a car accident, which prevented him from active
service in Vietnam.
He married Betty Walters and had one son, Steven Ross Scoggin.
John worked most of his adult life for Baker Packers, an offshore
equipment manufacturer, both in Houston and in Broken Arrow,
Oklahoma.
John always was an avid outdoorsman, his interests including
fishing, hunting and camping. He was also a gun enthusiast and an
active member of the NRA.
He is survived by: his son, Steven Ross Scoggin; daughter-in-law,
Kristen; granddaughter, Brooke Elizabeth; grandson, Jack Edward; and
step-daughter, Jennifer Jacobs.
John was a good person, friend, father and grandfather, and will be
missed by all.
Funeral services will be at North Dallas Funeral Home at 3:30 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 14, 2005.

Joe Henry Senkyrik
(February 9, 1932 - March 14, 2011)
Joe Henry Senkyrik, 79, of Markham,
Texas, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on
March 14, 2011. Joe was born February 9, 1932, to the late Joseph
Senkyrik and Mary Ann Kubala Senkyrik. He was an army veteran during
the Korean War, a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 30
years, a devoted husband and father, and a devout Catholic. Joe
earned a living as a farmer, rancher, electrician and convenience
store owner, and he loved to fish, garden and share his numerous
talents with anyone who needed help.
Joe is survived by his wife of 35 years,
Josephine McLeod Senkyrik; his children Clint White of New Mexico;
Tess White and husband Scott of Austin; Jodie Senkyrik of San
Marcos; Melinda Westbrook and husband Terry of Rockport; Danny
Senkyrik and wife Letha of Houston; Ed White of Augusta; Linda Popek
and husband David of Bay City; Loyd White and wife Kathy of Lake
Jackson; and Monica Bryant of Wimberley; his grandchildren Jarred
White; Brenna White; Brandy Bailey and husband Richard; Dana Ramsey;
Jennifer Jenkins; Rachel England; David Aaron England; Lucinda
Frachtenberg and husband Eitan; Sheri Denton and husband Mike;
Nathan Westbrook; Natalie Westbrook; Justin Senkyrik; Stephen
Arnold; Mathew Hooten; Renee Popek; Michelle Popek; Josh White;
Julia White; and Britney Mitchell; and his great grandchildren Kason
Klump; Kylee Klump; Hoyt Peck; Reese Denton; Drew Denton; Creighton
Westbrook; and Naom Frachtenberg.
Funeral services are planned for
Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City,
Texas, beginning at 2:00p.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn
Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Rosary will be at Taylor Bros. Funeral
Home at 6:00p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011.
Pallbearers will be grandsons; Stephen
Arnold, Mathew Hooten, Josh White, Justin Senkyrik, Nathan
Westbrook, Jarred White, David Aaron England and great-grandson,
Kason Klump.
Honorary pallbearers include Paul
Kristynik, Marvin Kristynik, David Kristynik, Paul Manna, Tom Kovar,
Richard “Dickie” Kovar, Tony Gauthier, George Sykora, Louis Senkyrik
Jr., Mark Senkyrik, Raymond Crow, and Mike Jenkins.
