Lena Annie Saha of El Maton died on Saturday, September 28, 2013, in Bay City, Texas, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. “ Grandma Saha”, as she was affectionately known throughout the community, was ninety-one years old. She laughingly referred to herself as a “ a 1922 model”. Lena was born to Louis and Annie Prihoda of Ellinger, Texas, on March 16, 1922. On January 9, 1942, Lena married Emil Saha, and they spent thirty happy years together until Emil’s death in 1972. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Louis, Robert, Sylvester, and Fred, and two sisters, Cornelia and Anita. Lena, a devout Catholic who loved God, her family, and her Czech heritage, was a member of the Blessing Altar Society. She spent thirty years working for Tidehaven ISD, retiring as cafeteria manager at Tidehaven High School at the age of eighty. Grandma Saha was known for her kolaches and cinnamon rolls. Lena Saha is survived by her children: Suzanne and David Kucera, Garry and Sharon Saha, Anned and Marion Gilbert, Kathy and Tommy Boyett, Marvin and Charlotte Saha, Mike and Janet Saha, and Cynthia and Steve Heard. “Grandma Saha” is also survived by her grandchildren: Jason Kucera, David and Inez Kucera, Tami and Dan Werring, Garry Ray and Lafy Saha, Joni and Jan Suchordt, John and Amanda Saha, Steven and Lacey Gilbert, John and Katie Gilbert, Thomas and Hollie Boyett, Chris and Cassie Boyett, Angela and Frank Dixon, Greg and Rebecca Saha, Jane Saha, Kara Saha, Sheri and Kelly Mayfield, Mikey and Christa Saha, Stacey and Kade Spencer, Mark Saha, Stephen and Lindy Heard, Brent and Kari Heard, and Kyle Heard. Lena Saha is survived by thirty-one great grandchildren with another due this year, and by Gladys Polasek, her sister, Lebert Prihoda, her brother, and Lillie Prihoda, her sister-in-law. A rosary for Lena Saha will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing, Texas, Monday, September 30th at 7:00P.M. and a funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing. Burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery in Blessing.

Martha Margaret Mondrik Salas, 89, of El Campo passed away on December 14, 2013. She was born on June 6, 1924, in Ammansville, Texas, to the late Ladislav and Filomena Janak Mondrik. She was an LVN Nurse having worked in Ganado, Edna, Bay City, Palacios and El Campo. She is survived by daughters, Leona Salas Pawlak of Sealy and Diane Salas Sbrusch and husband Frank of Rockport; sons, Leonard and wife Betty Korenek Salas of Ganado, Eugene Jr. and wife Retta Medford Salas of Markham and Johnny Salas of Markham; grandchildren, Cyndi Sbrusch Newton, Steven Sbrusch, Angela Pawlak, Brian Pawlak, Chris Pawlak, Daryl Pawlak, Rachel Salas Cieslewicz, Trisha Salas Buantello, Teri Salas Baierlipp, Bradley Salas, DeWayne Salas, Derreck Salas, Matthew Salas, Lance Salas, Jennifer Salas Ford, and Jason Salas; 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosie Mondrik Olsovsky of Victoria; and brothers, Robert Mondrik of Houston, Frank and wife Leona Dannels Mondrik of Blessing and Edward and wife Dorthy Wendel Mondrik of El Maton. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Vaclav Salas Sr.; sister, Elenora Mondrik Hajovsky; and brothers, George and Jerry Mondrik. Johnny Sardelich, Jr. of Markham passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013. Johnny was born on June 12, 1962 in Palacios, Texas to John and Betty Tanner Sardelich. Johnny loved to hunt and fish with his friends. He loved playing poker at the American Legion Hall in Blessing. Daniel G. Sedillo, 56, of Lake Jackson, Texas passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at his home. He was born April 11, 1957 in El Campo, Texas to Ygnacio and Guadalupe Sedillo. He worked for the Bay City Gas Company and Wal-Mart in Lake Jackson. Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Ygnacio Sedillo; his mother, Guadalupe Sedillo Solis; and two brothers, Ygnacio Garcia, Jr. and Alfred Sedillo. Funeral services are slated for retired Bay City Postmaster Samuel G. Selkirk, 91, who died Tuesday in Matagorda General Hospital. Born in Galveston on Oct. 21, 1897, Selkirk comes from a family whose roots are deep in Matagorda County history. His father was born in this county but moved away prior to the turn of the century. Selkirk grew up in Galveston and San Angelo. His life nearly ended before it got started when the Selkirk family narrowly escaped drowning in the 1900 Galveston hurricane which claimed thousands of lives. In a 1965 article telling of Selkirk’s retirement from the post office, Selkirk told The Daily Tribune that his family fled to the attic of their home when the water began rising. Instead of toppling like many houses, the roof blew off and the family found themselves floating in the Gulf of Mexico on the attic floor. After several hours adrift, they landed on a high spot. Selkirk also served overseas in a horse-drawn ambulance corps in World War I. When he returned in 1918, the family moved to this county to help look after the ranch of his uncle, James H. Selkirk, near Wadsworth. Selkirk also worked on the construction of the early road system, helped with surveying of the county, and served as a clerk in the office of the County Tax Assessor before taking up the post of postmaster on Sept. 7, 1939. During this lengthy tenure in the position, the number of post office employees increased from nine employees—including himself and custodians—to 32 when he retired in November 1865. Selkirk was an active member of the American Legion, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and Rotarian. He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Carter, a Bay City native who he married in 1938, and sister Mrs. T. A. Secretan of Bay City. Graveside services will be held at Cedarvale Cemetery Thursday at 10 a. m. under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home. Rev. Hugh B. Barbara Ann Sellers, 73, of Bay City passed away October 11, 2013. She was born May 4, 1940 in Bay City, TX to the late Isaac Washington Showers and Mary Schultz Showers. Gerald O. “Jerry” Shutts, 81, passed away at home in Duncan, Oklahoma, on Sunday, February 9, 2014. Gerald was born in Wichita, Kansas, on December 14, 1932, to the late Harold Oliver Shutts and Erma Laverne (Stanley) Shutts. He lived in Kansas, Texas, Indonesia, and Oklahoma. He worked for Celanese Chemical Co. in Bay City from 1964 to 1979. He was Plant Supervisor for Mobil Oil in Indonesia and Oklahoma from 1979 until retirement. He is survived by his wife, Herma of Duncan; his children, Donald (Carolyn) Shutts of San Antonio, Gary (Rachel) Shutts of Alvin, Karen (Kenny) Trochta of El Campo and Sarah Shutts of Irving; his siblings, Stanley (Pauletta) Shutts, Jody (Harry) Sebert and Janet Baird; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Funeral services for Van J. Simmons, 84,of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City, with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck. Mr. Simmons was born March 23, 1904, in Cominto, Ark., to Ben S. and Eula Faye Johnson Simmons and died 11 a. m. June 23, 1888, at his residence. A resident of Bay City since 1941, he was raised in Coafax, La. He was an avid sportsman and was employed with Bay City Material Co. for 30 years as a master mechanic, repairing equipment and vehicles. On May 28, 1988, he was married for 61 years to his wife, Ila Mae Simmons. He was a former member of the Bay City Lions Club and past worthy patron of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of the American Red Cross and an instructor of first aid. He was also a member of the Bay City Lodge 865 A. F. & A. M., 32nd degree Mason, Arabia Temple Shrine Club of Houston and the Bay City Shrine Club. He was a member of the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years and a fire department dispatcher for three years. Survivors include his wife, Ila Mae Simmons of Bay City; a daughter, Mrs. John H. Lee of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Carl Critendon of Port Lavaca; a sister, Mildred Phillips of Baton Rouge, La.; three brothers, Jimmy Simmons of Cedar Lane, Texas, Ben S. Cynthia Kubsch Slater was born September 26, 1958 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Clarence Walter Kubsch and Nathalie Lydia Hoff Kubsch. After a battle with cancer, she passed away October 27, 2013 at the age of 55. Her daughter Ashlea Dodd and brother Clarence Kubsch, Jr. preceded her in death. Mary Francis Barrett Smith, 70, of Palacios passed away December 7, 2013. She was born September 25, 1943 in Beaumont, TX to the late Fred Francis Barrett and Mary A. Burrell Barrett. She worked for many years as a dispatcher for the Palacios Police Department and as a jailer for the Matagorda County Sheriff’s office. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Kenneth V. Smith; daughters Kendra Smith of Birmingham, AL & Kayla Stein & husband Ford of Columbus, TX; son Kenny Smith & wife Norma of Rosharon, TX; grandchildren Justin Losoya, Ashley Kocian, Brittany Shine, Bethany Shine, Matthew Smith, Kristen Smith, Karen Delagarza and Marissa Smith and great grandchildren Nathan Losoya, Maysen Nicole Kocian and Kole William Kaley. Richard E. Smith died on August 20, 2013 at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels at the age of 101, after a brief illness. Richard lived independently at his home at Canyon Lake up until 10 days before his death. Born on November 29, 1911, Richard was raised on a West Virginia farm with four brothers and three sisters. Throughout his working life, Richard was involved with farming and oil production. He moved to Bay City in 1950 to accept a job with Marathon Oil. He married Marilyn Miller in 1954 and the couple resided in Bay City until their move to Canyon Lake in 1980. They were married 53 years until Marilyn’s death in 2007. While in Bay City, Richard was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge, and was involved in volunteer work. While working for Marathon, Richard worked part-time at the Huebner Ranch, then managed by Jack Huebner. Jack and Myrtle Huebner became lifelong friends. When Richard retired from Marathon in 1961, he worked full time on the Huebner Ranch. After the Smiths moved to Canyon Lake, Richard became a founding member of Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge, where he was later honored as a 75-year member by Governor Rick Perry. Richard will be remembered for his positive outlook on life and his deep faith. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Virginia Reeder of Houston and her family; daughter, Charlene Grimes of South Carolina; grandson, Mark Grimes of Michigan; granddaughter, Jody Grimes of Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Jared, Lindsey, and Caitlyn Grimes; niece, Sandra Miller of Virginia; nephew, Rick Lamb of Florida; other nieces and nephews; and God-daughter, Molly Huebner Dunn of Illinois. A memorial service was held in honor of Richard’s life on August 25, 2013 at Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church. Gifts can be made in honor of Richard to Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church.

Solis was born on Feb. 8, 1920 in Matagorda to Antonio Gatica and Simona Camacho Gatica and passee away on Feb. 5, 2014. She resided most of her life in Palacios and was a member of the First Baptist Church and shared her love of Christianity with her brothers and sisters in Christ. She devoted her life to her family, asking nothing in return. She was the last of the original Gatica Family. She now reunites with her loving parents and husband, Jose Angel Solis of sixty years; seven brothers: Lino, Maximo, Frank, Monico, Leon, Quireno, and Herman Sr.; three sisters: Savina, Blasa (Bessie) and Apolonia (Pola) and their spouses. In the hands of the Lords, she leaves her three surviving children: Louis, Martha Lee and Irene; grandchildren: Joe Louis Solis, Lisa Ann Balboa, Mona Morales, Melissa Pena, Rene Escalon, Jr., Andrea Lee Escalon, John Solis Garcia and Kenneth Wayne Aucoin II, and numerous great-grandchildren. “We will forever cherish a lifetime of memories until we meet again, dearest Mother.”

BAY CITY - Wiley James Sonnier "Jim", passed away November 30, 2013, at the age of 76 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in New Orleans, LA August 29, 1937. He graduated from Bay City High School in 1955 and graduated from Texas A&M in 1959 with a BBA. He was very active in the Corp of Cadets while at A&M and was a member of the Ross Volunteer honor guard unit. Upon leaving Texas A&M he entered the US Army as a commissioned officer and later completed his military service in the US Army Reserve at the rank of Captain. Upon entering civilian life he was employed by Mosher Steel Co. for 20 years as personnel director of the Houston facility. He retired from Schlumberger as Region Personnel Manager Southern/Offshore Region. He was preceded in death by his parents J.E. and Noelie Sonnier, sister Lois Jurek, wives Daphne Sonnier and Georgia Ann Sweeny Sonnier. Survived by his daughter Eva Marie and husband Dr. Lance Goetz, sons Michael and David and wife Betsy, and the mother of his children Ede Sonnier, step-son Matthew Cole, D.D.S. and wife Beth, six grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim enjoyed travelling to the U.K. and Alaska and living in Port Alto and spending time with all his Port Alto friends. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying bay and offshore fishing and loved spending time at his ranch in south Texas. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, December 7 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City, Texas at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers: Mitch Abshier, Tim Jurek, Jimmy Jurek, Brent Nance, Phil Richman, Nolan Stoute and Brent Maykuth. Fred Sparks was born July 4, 1839 and died December 10, 1904 and was buried at Memory Gardens in Edna, Jackson County, Texas. Fred married Marie Louise LaBauve on December 30, 1869 in Jackson County, Texas. She was born June 10, 1854 in Louisiana and died October 14, 1932 with burial at Hollywood Cemetery in Houston. Fred and Louisa were living in the Ashby community of Matagorda County in 1870 and their first child, Hortense, was born on July 20, 1872. Hortense would later become the first woman to pass the Texas State Bar Exam. She was the first Texas woman admitted to practice before the U. S. Supreme Court in 1915. M. J. Sparks, 83, of Van Vleck left this world on Monday, November 4, 2013 in Houston. He was born November 13, 1929 in Rosenberg, TX to the late Marion Jackson Sparks II & Addie Vee Thomas Sparks. M. J. worked at Celanese for many years before retiring and moving to Livingston. In 2008 he moved to Van Vleck to be closer to his family. M. J. was preceded in death by his wife Mary L. Sparks. He is survived by 2 sons: Michael Sparks and David Sparks; 3 daughters: Gay Sparks & Marcia McMurtry, Jodie Sparks, and Terri Sparks; grandchildren: Lacey Sparks & Jason, Stacey Green & Daniel, T. J. Green & Mandy, Tabitha & Juan Gomez, Keith & Kristen Sparks, Scott Sparks & Victoria, and Ezra Douglas; great grandchildren: Trent Blaylock, Jakob Trevino, Layla Gomez, and was looking forward to the arrival of Cora Lynn Sparks in March. Marthella Steves Simpson Spoonemore, age 81, died peacefully on January 6, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. Marthella was born on November 25, 1932, in Bay City, Texas, to Bert and Frances Steves. She attended Bay City High School, where she was drum major of the high school band and graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1950. After attending SMU for one year, she transferred to the University of Texas in Austin, where she received her degree in elementary education and met and married her first husband, Earl Edward Simpson. Marthella taught school in Bay City and ‘retired’ from teaching to raise her family after moving to Houston. They moved to Naperville, Illinois, then returned to Kingwood, Texas, where she became a realtor and received many accolades during her real estate career. She was a member of Kingwood Methodist Church and active with the ‘Piddlers’ and other social groups. After Ed’s death, she remained in Kingwood and continued to work and provide mentorship to new realtors. On Valentine’s Day, 2009, she married former high school classmate, James Spoonemore. They were living in Canyon Lake at the time of her death. She taught us love, compassion, dignity, humbleness, warmth, humor, nurturing, forgiveness, caring, manners and much more. Marthella had a zest for life that carried over to those who were around her. She was loved by many and will be missed but remembered lovingly by all who knew her. Marthella was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband of 50 years, Ed Simpson. She is survived by her husband, James Spoonemore; her children, Martha Lindsey of East Dundee, IL, Dan (Lynette) Simpson and Steve (Carleen) Simpson, all of League City, TX; her grandchildren, Keri Lindsey of Seattle, WA, Amanda Simpson of Austin, TX and Chris Lindsey of Chicago, IL; her step-children, Sandy (Mike) Strickland of Bastrop, TX and David Spoonemore of Corpus Christi, TX; her siblings, Taylor (Sandra) Steves of Bay City, TX, Lew (Judy) Steves of Bellevue, WA, Savanna (Albert) Franklin of Bay City, TX and Diana (John) Null of Sugar Land, TX. As the matriarch of a large family, she also is survived by many step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at CHRISTUS Sister Mary Hospice Center in San Antonio for their thoughtful and loving care during Marthella’s final days. Funeral arrangements are with Kingwood Funeral Home in Kingwood, TX. Former County Judge Joseph J. “Jack” Spurgeon, died Saturday, March 28, at Matagorda County General Hospital. Spurgeon was born in Nacogdoches, January 11, 1897, and spent his childhood years in the area. He was a graduate of Sam Houston University in Huntsville and got his law degree from Houston Law School in 1937. He graduated with the highest academic record in his class. Spurgeon was a past principal of Pledger School in Pledger and Jefferson Davis High School in Bay City. He also worked at the post office in Bay City before being elected as County Judge in 1954. He served the county as judge until 1966. A World War I veteran, Spurgeon was a past member of the Bay City Lion’s Club, Chamber of Commerce and the “Little Theater.” He was a member of the First Baptist Church and very active in the Masonic Lodge. Spurgeon served as Past Master of Bay City Lodge 865 A. F. and A. M., District Deputy Grand Master of 32nd Masonic District, past High Priest Bay City Chapter 315, R. A. M., past T. I. M. Bay City Council 251 R. S. M., past District Deputy High Priest and T. I. M. District 6 and past Commander of Bay City K. T. 74. He was also Knight of the York Cross of Honor, Priory 23, Order of Silver Trowel, Order of the High Priest Hood, past Patron of Eastern Star 380, a 33 Degree Mason and a member of the El Mina Shrine Temple in Galveston. He was awarded the fifty year service award and lifetime membership in the Masonic Lodge. Spurgeon served 21 years as secretary of the Bay City Masonic Lodge. Spurgeon is survived by his sister, Mary Spurgeon of Nacogdoches. Funeral services were held today at Taylor Brothers Chapel and will be held Tuesday in Nacogdoches, 3 p. m., at the Alazan Church. Interment will follow at Alazan Cemetery. Pallbearers include members of the Masonic Lodge.

Eva Lois Taylor-Stansberry was born August 24, 1934 in Lexington, Texas and at 78 was called to be with her Lord and Savior on June 11, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy Taylor and Maude and Charlie Adams, husband Robert E. “Bobby” Stansberry, one son, one sister and one brother. She is survived by five sons Larry Stansberry & wife Cheryl, Brad Stansberry, Williams Williams, Edward Williams and Michael Stansberry; three daughters and sons-in-law Corliss & Steve Clark, Barbara & John Olham and LaTonya & Michael Eulenfeld; one sister Pat Munson & husband Felton; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by extended family and friends, many of whom knew her from Church and the Sno-Cone stands she and Bobby ran in Bay City and Angleton. PALACIOS - Barbara Stroud, 71, of Palacios, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013 in Houston. She was born January 23, 1942 in Goose Creek to the late Ben Ray Denson and Lora Jane Denson Hyde. She was a loving wife. She is survived by her sons, William Stroud Jr. of Austin and Ben Stroud of Carrollton; and seven grandchildren. Viola Mehrens Sullivan was born March 29, 1925 to the late Emil Mehrens and Mabel Thonsgaard Mehrens at Northern Headquarters near Midfield, Texas. The family later moved to Carancahua near Danevang where they became involved in cotton and rice farming for many years. Vi attended Louise High School graduating in 1942. She then attended Texas Women’s University at Denton, Texas and later transferred to Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas. She graduated with a degree in Home Economics, English and Science. Later she attended the University of Houston and received her Masters in English and Home Economics. Her teaching started when she joined the staff at Palacios High School in 1945 and taught General Science, Biology and English. After teaching a little more than a year she met A. N. Sullivan who was co-owner of the Palacios Pharmacy. They married soon after on February 15, 1946. Before long A. N. decided he wanted to complete his Mortuary Science Degree and become a full time mortician for Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. They moved to Houston so A. N. could attend and finish Mortuary School. In Houston their first child, Charles Rickey was born. Later the Sullivan family moved to Bay City where A. N. worked for Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Their next two children, Randy DuWayne and Susan Kay were born in Bay City. In 1948 Vi joined the Bay City Independent School Staff. She worked in the Middle School for two years teaching Reading, Spelling and General Science. Before too long A. N. was called back into the Navy to serve in the Korean War and the family moved to California. In 1951 the family returned to Bay City and Vi returned to teaching. She became a full time Home Economics Teacher at Bay City High School and taught there until 1984 when she retired. Her last school teaching assignment was helping to organize the Family Life Education Course for Senior students. During her lifetime Vi received many honors that were part of Civic, State, and National Groups. Some of these include President of the Vocational Home Economics Teachers Association of Texas 1972-73; Member of the Nominating Committee of the National Teachers Association; charter member of the Texas Classroom Teachers of Bay City; elected as the Legislative Chairman of Vocational Home Economics Teachers of Texas; member of Bay City Pilot Club; Vice-President of Bay City Delta Kappa Gamma; first and only teacher from Bay City ISD to be appointed to the State Text Book Committee by Dr. J. W. Edgar, Commissioner of Texas Education in 1973; member of the Bay City Chamber of Commerce Education Committee; served on the State Board of Texas Teachers; President of the National Association of Vocational Home Economics Teachers; commissioned in 1972 by Governor Preston Smith as a “Yellow Rose of Texas.” After retiring from teaching her life was busy with Church work, volunteering at the Matagorda County Museum, supporting Breast Cancer Awareness and doing whatever she could to help her family and friends. Vi was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, Elder and member of the Cradle of Texas Emmaus and Women Faith. Vi was preceded in death by her husband A. N. Sullivan and their two sons Rick and Randy Sullivan. She is survived by her daughter Susan Kay Sullivan Warren and husband James Ray “Tut” Warren and daughters-in-law Margaret Ann Rhodes Sullivan and Debbie Gray Sullivan. She was lovingly called “Sugar” by her grandchildren Lee Ashley Sullivan Dittlinger and husband Patrick Henry Dittlinger, Trey Horton Sullivan and wife Schelli Holtzclaw Sullivan, Mehrens “Elise” Warren, and Brittany Ann Sullivan. Her great grandchildren are Bryce Henry Dittlinger, Reece Perry Dittlinger, Riley Carson Dittlinger and Rylan Audrey Sullivan. Other family members include Chele Knapp Robinette and husband Vince and their children Ryan, Drake and Reagan, Kay Evans Millsap, and her “Heart” Terry Sullivan. Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has cared for Vi the last few years with special recognition to Emma Mack. Vi lived a good life filled with much love and happiness by her family and many wonderful friends. Thelma Cathey Sutton, 81, of Bay City, died Feb. 4, 1996 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. Mrs. Sutton was born Feb. 2, 1915 in Hughes Co., Oklahoma to William B. & Cecile Irene Johnson Cathey. She was a long time resident of Bay City having moved here in April 1945, a member and Deaconess Emeritus of the First Christian Church, a member of and Past Matron of Bay City Chapter #380 of The Order of the Eastern Star for 45 years and held several State Offices, Past Worthy President of The Social Order of the Beauceant, was active on the board in The Order of Rainbow For Girls of Bay City Assembly #119 and received the Coveted Grand Cross of Color. Mrs. Sutton was very much a people person. She loved people and was always there to help everyone young and old. The family always came first with her. She was a cherished Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 p. m. BAY CITY - A. C. "Butch" Symmank, went to be with his Lord on
Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Butch was
born on January 12, 1942 in LaGrange, Texas, to the late August J.
and Lenora Behler Symmank. Butch was a loving husband, father,
grandfather and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Gwen Symmank; children, Kristie Kucera and husband Craig, John Duran, Angie Hasty and husband Bobby; grandchildren, Daniel Duran, Kade Kucera, Heather Duran, Rachel Lawrence, Kamille Kucera, Karma and Destiny Tealer; brother, Joe Symmank and wife Neta, George Hudnall and wife Susan, David Hudnall and wife Connie.
