James Harlan Sanders

February 7, 1969 ~ November 26, 2023

James Harlan Sanders, 54 years young, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 26, 2023.  James was born in Bay City, Texas on Friday, February 7, 1969 to Jimmy and Carol Sanders.  James has been survived by his loving family,  mother, Carol Sanders, wife, Denise Sanders, brother Steven Sanders and his wife Kaylynn, mother-in-law, Linda Denker and most especially his beloved children; Celeste Sanders, Austin Sanders and Addisyn Sanders, also his nieces; Krista Sanders, Shaie Sanders and Shannan Sanders, and nephew, Garrett Tupa and his wife Brittany. He has been preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Sanders.

James loved life! In fact, he would often tell you, "OUT-SHHANDING!" and he said it often. His phone was always in use talking to his friends, co-workers, customers, family for hours on end. How he recalled all those stories that he could recite over over is beyond me, but he loved to tell stories of his life. When James would laugh, tears had to be wiped from his eyes. In fact, many nights he laughed in his sleep. He gave good strong handshakes, and was known as a Good Genuine Man. A Christian. He loved us and we all knew it. I am thankful for all the vacations we took as a family. We have memories that will last us a lifetime. I know this man left his mark on the world. He will be remembered by many, and this a testament of how he treated others. The silver lining is knowing he is reunited with his Dad, gets to finally meet my Dad, and his other family and friends in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to help defray the cost of the funeral, and medical expenses.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service to Honor James on Monday, December 11th, 2023 at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Rick Dubroc officiating, beginning with visitation from 9:am to 10:am, Rosary being recited at 10:am and Memorial Service at 10:30 am.

Alan Scott Snyder

March 20, 1985 ~ June 18, 2023

How lucky are we to have had someone that makes saying goodbye so hard. Alan was well known for his ability to make everyone laugh. It didn't matter the situation, he had a way of making light of it. Alan's laugh was one in a million. If you heard him laugh , you were laughing too. He was the kind of man that was quick to help whoever. He never said no to a person in need. He was an amazing farther, son, brother, and friend. To say 'he will be missed' doesn't carry enough volume.

Myron August Spree Jr.

February 27, 1944 ~ August 29, 2022

Myron August Spree Jr., known to many as Buster, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022. He was born on February 27, 1944, in Phoenix, Arizona, to the late Myron Sr. and Clara Backhus Spree (Sheeran).

Buster grew up in Palacios, Texas, where he developed his love of saltwater fishing and shrimping. After graduating from Palacios High School, he attended college, but the draw of the water kept him from actually attending some classes. In April 1966, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably for 6 years and rose to the rank of Sergeant (E 5). His service took him to Vietnam, a time he didn’t discuss much with his kids. He took great joy later in life serving as a fishing captain for the annual Warrior’s Weekend event in Port O’Connor. Seeing the joy fishing and being out on the water brought to fellow servicemen helped heal his soul as well as theirs.

Buster married Carol Adams on September 14, 1968, in Palacios. Together they became parents of five daughters. He may have been a “Girl Dad,” but he raised us to work like boys, especially on the back deck of his shrimp boats. We will always treasure the many sunrises and hot days spent with him on his boats. Dad worked as a machinist at ALCOA Point Comfort for over 25 years and as a commercial shrimper in Port Lavaca. His passion for the ecosystem and fisheries in Lavaca Bay led him to actively advocate against industrial water pollution and to become involved in the Lavaca Bay Foundation.

“Faith, Family, Friends and Fishing were priorities in Dad’s life. He chose to live every day grateful to the good Lord for giving him another one. He was the happiest filling those days on the water with his family and friends and helping anyone in need. His will to live was one of the most amazing gifts he gave us.”

Buster is survived by his beloved daughters: Kim, Shannon (Jeff Kolos), Shelby (Joe) Nicknish, Cassie (James) Adcock, and Carrie (Michael) Fehlis; 12 grandchildren: Joe Jr., Hannah, Nathan, Samuel, Kyleigh, Ethan, Ben, Drew, Kolden, Laina, Grant and Miles; brother, Paul (Donna) Spree; sister, Frances (Robert) White; 4 nieces; 2 nephews; and life-long love, Carol Spree.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Paul Bunnell, who went above and beyond as both friend and doctor to give us as many years as possible with Dad.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Salem Lutheran Church in Port Lavaca. Reception and brunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lavaca Bay Foundation, P.O. Box 498, Port Lavaca, Texas; Warrior’s Weekend, 3603 Miori Lane, Victoria, Texas 77901; or Salem Lutheran Church, 2101 N. Virginia Street, Port Lavaca, Texas 77979.

Larry Charles Stansberry

July 2, 1951 - November 17, 2023

He could always be found supporting and watching the Houston Oilers, which he actually tried out for in 1972, and alter cheering on the Houston Texans.  In fact, in recent years he was very seldom seen without donning a Texans cap.

Larry had a great sense of humor and met no strangers.  He would visit with anyone anywhere that he encountered.  One of his favorite things was to invite and treat whoever was available to a meal in a restaurant and trip to Walmart.  While at home he enjoyed watching westerns (unless the Texans were on) and listening to all his country music CDs.

Larry is survived by his sister, Corliss (Steve) Clark; sister, Barbara Oldham; brothers, Brad Stansberry, Will (Amanda) Williams and Michael (Angela) Williams and sister, Latonya (Michael) Eulenfeld; daughter, Stacy (John) Beaird, daughter, Sarah Cox, son Jody (Jenn) Stansberry, daughter, Shellie (Joe) Bell and son Clayton Stansberry; 14 grandkids, 5 great grandkids along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tolier "Fieldlark" Stansell
T. “Fieldlark” Stansill
Never Recovers From Bullet Wound Received July 18

T. “Fieldlark” Stansill died at the Loos hospital Friday afternoon about 2 o’clock after lingering for 27 days with a bullet wound inflicted in his head at the base of his brain by John Lane, brother of his employer.

Young Stansill was shot Saturday afternoon about 4:30, July 18, following an altercation and first fight with John Lane, a smaller man and brother to Stansill’s employer. The argument and ultimate shooting was over a few cents in a salary that Lane, the brother to the man who did the shooting was supposed to have owed Stansill.

Following the shooting John Lane gave himself up to the sheriff and an examining trial was set but waived for a later hearing waiting the outcome of the victim’s condition. John Lane was released on bond immediately after the shooting.

Michael Dewayne Stone

December 8, 1946 - December 13, 2024

Micheal Dewayne Stone, 78, of Bay City, Texas passed away surrounded by his family on December 13, 2024. He was born December 8, 1946, on Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas to the late O.C. and Celestia Stone.

Mike started his career working alongside his father and brothers in the produce business. This is where his lifelong love of truck driving began, he was always ready to jump in the driver’s seat, even until his health told him otherwise. Ruben Lopez can attest to this, having worked for Mike over 20 years and like family, he can tell many stories of Mike’s get it done spirit, like when he took out electrical lines moving a cotton picker because no one else would!

Moving to Bay City, Texas from Arkansas in 1970, Mike started his endeavor in the sod business, he quickly moved from cutting in pastures to operating his own farms. For over 50 years he sold grass all over Texas and other states.

Lacey Sparks was his longtime assistant, he thought of her as family, and she kept him on track. Buying and selling was another passion of his, he never missed an auction and true to his roots he always came out on top with whatever crazy thing he bought and sold.

Mike’s hobbies included hunting and fishing, he spent many days on the water and nights in the woods, Phillip Surls was his best hunting buddy. On the way to his beloved home state of Arkansas, he always made the detour through Louisiana for a stop at the casino. He was proud of his Arkansas roots and loved visiting family there, always attending the homecoming every May on the Mountain. His family meant the world to him and his love for them, especially his grandchildren, was immense. Mike believed in helping people be their best and would never hesitate to helpanyone in need without judgement and with a big heart, he blessed many people.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Sonny Stone, Darrell “Shorty” Stone and Don E Stone, and sister Doris Stone Clifton.

Left with his legacy of love are his wife Vicky Thompson Stone; daughter Misty Stone; son Brian Stone and wife Jenna; son Shawn Stone; brother Mark Stone (Dianne) and grandchildren Rylan, Reid and Adley Stone, and Samantha Stone.
