Sirmon Baby Dead

Little Dorothy Gene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. T.Sirmon, of Markham, died at the Loos Hospital in Bay City Thursday morning June 14th, after an illness of only a few hours. Age 1 year, 8 months and 26 days.

She was a child of a lovable disposition and though she had only been with us a short time she had won the hearts of everyone she came in contact with. Though she is not here to greet us with her childish smile and playful manner, that sweet memory of her will always remain in the hearts of everyone that knew her.

God giveth and God taketh away. But let’s not challenge the works of God. He had a place for her to fill in his Heavenly Kingdom, that no one but her could fill. Although we laid her physical body to rest in the grave, the real Dorothy Gene, the one we love, has gone to fill the place God had prepared for her in the Heavens.

Dorothy Gene is here no more,
To cheer us with her smile.
She has gone to view the Heavenly shores,
And dwell with Him on high.

We loved her. Yes, we loved her,
But God, He knew what’s best,
He had a place for her
In His Kingdom for the Blest.

He had a place for her
That no other could fill.
That’s the reason why He took her;
His program to fulfill.

Our hearts are full of grief,
To lose the one we love.
Let’s live a life above reproof,
And meet her up above.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Markham, Friday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Worrell, pastor of the church, and Rev. Wilson, of Eagle Lake, conducted the religious services. Her body was laid to rest in the Hauley [Hawley] Cemetery, 6 miles west of Markham, on the Tres Palacios Creek.

She is survived by her father and mother, two sisters, Ethil [Ethel] and Inez, and two brothers, Earl and Ralph, all of Markham.

The deepest sympathy of the entire community goes out to the family in this time of their great bereavement.
