Mildred Rugeley

At 2 o’clock this morning the sweet little spirit of Mildred, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Rugeley, passed to a better and purer world after suffering for about one week with an attack of pneumonia, in which struggle she made a brave battle for life. All that kind friends, doting and anxious parents and skilled medical attention could be bestow was done in a vain hope to spare her to her kindred but all without avail; and yielding to the certain ravages of the disease the little sufferer passed from earth to the kingdom of heaven, and it is consoling to think that of such as this little girl is the kingdom of heaven composed.

The little girl was aged two years, eight months and twenty-eight days—an age of childhood that makes attachment doubly dear and parental love most tender and solicitous. Though brief was the span of her earthly existence, she was here long enough to make the loss to heart-broken father and mother and other relatives a source of most poignant grief, a grief which time will be long to assuage.

The funeral services were held this afternoon at 4 o’clock at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the ceremonies being conducted by Rev. John Sloan, the rector. The interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery one hour later. A large number of persons attended the funeral and burial.

The Tribune joins this community in extending sympathy to the surviving relations.
