passed away quietly and peacefully into the arms of his Beloved
Lord, with his wife, Isabel, by his bedside, on Monday, October 12,
2009, at Kindred Hospital, in Houston, Texas.
Friends are invited to the funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday,
October 17, 2009, at First United Methodist Church located at 506
East 28th Street in Bryan.
Viewing will be from 9 until 10 a.m. at First United Methodist
Church. A graveside service will take place at the Bryan City
Cemetery, immediately following the funeral service. Also, a
memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday morning, October 18,
2009, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 505 Boulevard Street,
Bryan, Texas.
Benjamin Robbins was the first-born child to Palmer and Margarete
Robbins on October 26, 1938, in Bay City, Texas. He lived in his
grandparent's old ancestral home Tadmor in Matagorda County,
attended elementary school in Boerne, TX, and graduated from Bay
City High School in 1957. He enlisted into the United States Navy
for four years where he served his country on the Destroyer U.S.S.
Everett F. Lawson in the Pacific. After leaving the military,
Benjamin worked for the Highway Department in Bay City and later
moved to California where he worked in Long Beach.
On September 10, 1966, Ben married the love of his life, Isabel
Hernandez in Bryan, Texas. Ben and Isabel's marriage spanned forty-
three years and their devotion to each other and the church never
wavered. Ben and Isabel were a faithful team in their mission and
ministry at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Bryan and
throughout the Rio Grande Conference. Ben became a certified lay
speaker and preached regularly at his local church. He held various
positions of leadership in the church throughout the years. He
uplifted many persons on their life's journey by his quiet,
steadfast Christian witness and his commitment to living out the
teachings of Jesus Christ, in his daily life. He was a kind and
gentle Christian man who loved people and sought to inspire both
youth and adults in the faith which he eagerly shared. He was a
long-time member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Bryan.
Benjamin loved the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed serving Him every
opportunity that presented itself.
Ben loved technology and was always eager to learn. He obtained two
degrees from Texas A&M University: B.A. in Education with an
emphasis in Bilingual Education and a Masters of Education. He
taught in the public schools in Bryan and in the surrounding areas.
His desire to help people and inspire them toward a better life
included teaching in the Texas Department of Corrections in the
Huntsville area. Ben enjoyed traveling and driving vehicles of any
kind _ cars, church vans, and big tour buses. One of his favorite
jobs just prior to retirement was driving the Trolley for Bryan
District Transit System. His out-going nature and love of people
allowed him to make friends everywhere and people loved him.
Ben was an avid reader, violinist, hunter, fisherman, and naturalist
who loved to oil paint and bird watch. Complications associated with
open-heart surgery created health struggles over the last 4 years.
Ben lived and loved life with profound enjoyment despite these
issues. He fought bravely and courageously, keeping a quiet and calm
assurance that His God was with him through it all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Margarete
Robbins.
Ben is survived by his wife, Isabel Hernandez Robbins of Bryan,
daughter, Brenda Rosamaria Salinas and husband Francisco Salinas, of

Alejandra, and Gabriela Franchesca Salinas; Two sisters: Melba
Robbins of Austin and Janice Robbins Dobb and husband Larry Dobb of
Montana; Niece Amber Dobb Maclay-Schulte and husband David
Maclay-Sculte of Montana, and numerous nieces and nephews by

him and called him "friend".
