Anastacio Padron, 77, of Bay City, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000. He
was born in Mexico to Rito and Feranada Flores Padron.
He is survived by: wife, Ofelia Padron of Bay City; daughters,
Guadalupe and Graciela both of Houston, Eloina of Oklahoma, and
Orfelinda of Ft. Worth; sons, Rito and Juan both of Mexico, Ramon of
Bay City, Santos of Ft. Worth, and Everado of Bay City; brothers,
Marcos of Mexico, Gabino of California, Luis of Texas, and Guadalupe
of Mexico; 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000 at Our Lady
of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating.
Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Helen Valdez Paniagua, 65, of Bay City
passed away Monday, December 26, 2011. She was born July 23, 1946 in
Bay City to the late John Joe & Julia Rodriguez Valdez. Helen was a
life long resident of Bay City, and a member of Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband: Erasto
Paniagua Sr. of Bay City; daughter: America Garay & husband Antonio
Rodriguez; 4 sons: Paul Garay Jr. & wife Felecia, Baltimore Garay &
wife Holli, John Joe Garay & wife JoAnn, and Erasto Paniagua Jr. &
wife Jennifer; 2 sisters: Angie Lopez and Mary Guajardo; 3 brothers:
Jesse, Lorenzo, and John Joe “Kenny” Valdez; 14 grandchildren; and
10 great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents
and daughter: Pamela Paniagua.

Funeral services for Mrs. Otto Pape, 62, were held at 2:30 p. m.
Friday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City with the Rev.

Mrs. Pape, a resident of Bay City for more than 45 years, passed
away in a hospital in Odessa, Wednesday. For the past six
months, due to ill health, she has made her home with her
daughters, Mrs. Joe Campbell in Odessa.
Other survivors include her husband, Otto Pape, Bay City; her
mother, Mrs. Carrie Brown Penny and her sister, Mrs. Walter
Gillett of Palacios, and a brother, Robert Hayes of Biloxi,
Miss.

Fred Pena Jr.
A funeral mass for Fred Pena, Jr., 62, of Palacios, was held Monday,
Jan. 24, 2000 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles
Dwomoh officiating. Internment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay
City.
Mr. Pena was born July 27, 1937 in New Gulf to Federico and Maria
Maldonado Pena. He died Jan. 20, 2000 at Matagorda General Hospital
in Bay City.
Mr. Pena was a resident of Palacios for the past 40 years and a
member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Leocadia Chavez Pena of Palacios;
daughters and sons-in-law Irene and Robert Rangel of Bay City and
Sylvia and Juan Gonzales, Mary and Jose Louis Rosas, Diane Muniz and
fiancé Candelario Esrada, and Judy and Jerry Herrera, all of
Palacios; sons and daughters in law; Fred Pena, III and wife

James Leo Penland, 79, died Sept.
24, 2011in Granbury, Tx. He was born Sept. 17, 1932 in
Collegeport, Tx. to Altha Aaron and Vannie Huffhines Penland.
Family memorial service will be held at a later date.
James told great stories, enjoyed fishing and hunting, his
grandchildren, and driving the Sunday School bus.
He is survived by daughters Sharon M. Burnham of Bastrop, Tx.,
Sarah L. Penland of Lockhart, Tx., Rhoda A. Hart of Cedar Creek,
Tx., Carmel A. Penland of Tyler, Tx., Christy P. Howard of
Konowa, Oklahoma, and Heather P. Matthews of Heidelberg,
Germany; brothers Eugene E. Penland and John E. Penland of
Palacios, Tx.; sisters Nell P. Mize of Cuero, Tx. and Sue P.
Hawthorne of Searcy, Ark.; 19 grandchildren; 5
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Altha Aaron Penland
II, five brothers, and one sister.

Clay Penny
Clay Penny, 90, of Bay City died
July 22, 2004 at the Legacy in Bay City. He was born July 24,
1913 in Markham, Texas to the late Walter Clarence and Hibbie
Augusta Dunbar Penny. Mr. Penny was a life time resident of the
Bay City area and was a member of the Family Worship Center. He
served in the U S Army Air force during WW II, and was a retired
oil field pumper.
Survivors include: his wife, Faye Penny of Bay City; son, Walter
Penny and his wife Linda of League City; daughter, Cleo Bounds
of Bay City; step-daughter Diane Nall of Bay City; step-son,
Michael McKenzie of Olympus, Washington; and two
step-grandchildren, Amber Nall and Wesley Nall and his wife
Priscilla all of Bay City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Annie Marie Penny, by
his brother L. D. Penny, and his sister, Edith Penny.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the
Family Worship Center with the Rev. Jim Guerro and the Rev.
Linda Maxey officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn
Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Greg
and Billy Penny, Tom Matthews, Robert Rodriguez, and Tim and

Tomas R. “Chano” Perez, 84, of Bay City passed from this life into
eternity to be with his God October 21, 2003 at his residence. He
was born March 5, 1919 in Brazoria Co. (Hasima Community) to the
late Hilario and Catarina Ramirez Perez and was the youngest of six
children. Mr. Perez was a life long resident of Bay City, and a
member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Barbarita Acosta Perez;
daughters, Andre Gutierrez of Houston and Patricia Littleton of Bay
City; son and daughter-in-law, Manual A. and Maria Perez of La
Marque, Texas; sister, Guadalupe Martinez of Bay City;
sisters-in-law: Frances Perez and Dolores Perez both of Bay City;
grandsons, Garland and Joseph Gutierrez, Elijah and Robert IV
Littleton, Gabriel, Abram and Nathan Perez; granddaughters, Yvette

manufacturing and was a retired welder.

Maclovia Gutierrez Perez, 72, of Bay City, died May 4, 2000 at
Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. She was born March 9, 1928
in George West, Texas to the late Bisente and Victoria Cantu
Gutierrez. She was a member of Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church
and a resident of Bay City the past 47 years.

born in Bay City, Texas, September 14, 1948, to Walter
Perry, Sr. and Irene Hawkins Perry and passed away
December 31, 2011, in San Diego, California.
Survivors include: a son, Harold O’Keith Perry of San
Diego, California and three grandchildren. Also four
sisters, Lorene Harris of Los Angeles, California, Betty
Jackson, Dorothy Parks and Velva Perry, all of Bay City,
and two brothers, Walter Perry, Jr. of Hollywood,
California., and Don Perry, Sr. of Bay City, and an
enormous host of other relatives and friends.
Besides
her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter,
Theda Ballard, two sisters, Nelda Perry and Kathleen

Curtis "Pete" Beaumont Peterson
|
WHARTON
- Curtis "Pete" Beaumont Peterson of Wharton, went home
to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011 after a
long battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Louise, to the late Julius
B. Peterson and Gladys Hensley Peterson. He grew up in
Louise and after attending and graduating from El Campo
and Louise High School he attended college at Texas A&M
University. When World War II started he joined the Army
Air Force. Curtis retired from the Air Force in 1964 in
Columbus, Ohio, where he met and married Rosa Beth Wiser
and adopted her three children. He was the best husband
and father the family could have ever asked for. Curtis
returned to Louise with his family and worked at El
Campo Aluminum until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosa Beth
Peterson; and brother, Dr. Wayne Peterson.
He is survived by his sons, Tom Peterson and wife,
Rosalie of Bay City, Bruce Peterson and wife, Jan, of
Georgetown; daughter, Christine Koudela and husband,
David, of Wharton; 10 grandchildren; and 16
great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday at Wheeler
Funeral Home. The family will be present from 3-5 p.m.
to receive visitors at Wheeler Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26,
2011 at Wheeler Funeral Home with Pastor Mack Mathis
officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at
the Garden of Memories, Bus. Hwy 59 South, El Campo.
Immediately following burial friends and family can
gather at the home of Christine and David Koudela in
Wharton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Borak, Jody Borak,
Jason Peterson, Jeremy Peterson, Zachary Koudela, Blythe
Koudela and Justin Koudela.

Lila Belle Warren Phillips, 95, passed away Monday,
August 29, 2011.
She was born September 20, 1915, in Matagorda County
and grew up in the area.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband,
the Rev. Austin W. Phillips; sons, the Rev. Aldon H. Phillips and
Robert Phillips; and a grandson.
She is survived by: her eight grandchildren, 20
great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am Friday,
September 2, 2011, at the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, with the
Rev. George Ridge officiating.

Funeral services for Mozelle S. Phillips, 93, were held March 16,
2011 at the Alamo Heights Baptist Church in Port Lavaca, Tx. with
Rev. Tim Williams officiating. Burial was at Palacios Cemetery in
Palacios, Tx.
Mrs. Phillips born in Little Rock, Arkansas on Oct. 30, 1917. She
passed on to be with our Lord and Savior on March 13, 2011 in
Boerne, Tx. with her children by her side.
Mozelle was a retired nurse having worked in Dr. E.B. Sanford’s
Medical Clinic in Palacios for 38 years. She served in many
capacities in church and community.
She will be missed by her family and all who knew her, but we take
comfort in knowing she is with God.
She is survived by daughters Betty Reeves of Katy, Lela Barnhart of
Batson, and Mary Domstead and husband Gary of Boerne; son Pat
Phillips of Uvalde; stepson Ira Phillips; daughter-in-law Laura
Phillips Lawson; grandchildren Wallace Phillips, Cheryl Robinson,
Tammy Bissett, Robert Reeves, Philip Reeves, Donna Barnhart, Gary
Barnhart, Randy Barnhart, Kim Tinnin, Greg Domstead, Doug Phillips
and Matt Phillips; 21 great-grandchildren; and 8
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husbands Wallace S. Phillips and Rush

Harry Lewis Polk
Funeral services for Harry Lewis
Polk, 56, of Sargent will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb.15, 2000 at
Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Ramsey
officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in
Van Vleck.
Mr. Polk died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000. He was born Feb. 14, 1943
in Bay City to Bernard Alvin Polk and Evelyn Louise Smith Polk.
He was a resident of Sargent since 1984 and a former resident of
Bay City and Alvin. He was a millwright with Millwright Local
2232 of Pasadena and a former member of the U.S. Army Reserves.
Survivors include: sons and daughter-in-law, Harry Louis, Jr.
and Kristie Polk of Henderson, N.C. and Clint Allen Pol of
Sargent; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Earl Sage of
Sargent and Sharon and Randy Mautz of Houston; brother and
sister-in-law, Rodney and Liz Polk of Angleton; and by his
grandchildren, Braelyn Polk and McKenzie Polk of Henderson, N.C.
and Clint Allen Polk, Jr. of Sargent.

MIDFIELD - John Robert Powell, 49, of Midfield, died Friday, Sept.
19, 2003.
He was born Sept. 4, 1954, in Grand Prairie, to Katy Graham Powell
Wratislaw of Midfield and the late Chester Powell. He was a member
of the Rotary Club and of the Church of Christ.
Survivors: sons, Jason Ross Powell and Ryan Scott Powell, both of
McKinney and Aaron Todd Powell of San Diego; and sisters, Mary Alice
Doss of Wadsworth, Pamela Kay Owens of Bay City, and Katherine Ann
Watt of Beeville.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home
chapel, Mr. Stanton Quesenberry officiating.
Burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Taylor Bros.

"F.E." Pryor

GANADO -
Flemington E. (F.E.) Pryor, 84, of Ganado, passed away
on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011. He was born on Aug.25,
1927, to the late Epps F. and Julia Emma Pryor.
He
proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during
WWII. He was an
active member of the American Legion Post in Ganado,
Masonic Lodge, and 1st Methodist Church in Ganado. He
has lived in Ganado for 22 years and previously
Matagorda County for 30 years. He retired after 30 years
of service with Tesoro.
F.E. is
survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Ray Beth
Fowler; 2 sons: Lyle ( Dorothy ) Pryor of El Campo and
F.E. ( Beverly ) Pryor, Jr. of Canyon Lake;
brother-in-law, Whit Sappington of LaWard; 2
grandchildren: Lacie (Travis ) Orsak and Lance Pryor;
and 2 great-grandchildren, Caroline and Tyler Orsak
F.E. was
preceded in death by his parents; first wife, of thirty
years, Margaret Stockton Pryor; and a sister, Lois
Sappington.
Visitation
will be Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 from 9 a.m. till service
time 11 a.m., at the First Methodist Church in Ganado.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at
Garden of Memory Cemetery in El Campo, with the American
Legion Post having military services at the Grave site.
