Opal Frances Orsak

July 29, 1933 – December 23, 2022

Opal Frances Carter was born to David Delano Carter and Opal Cleo Queen on July 29, 1933 in McQueen, Oklahoma.  She was the first of two sisters and two brothers.   The family soon moved to Palacios, Texas.  A short time after graduating from Palacios High School, Frances met and married the love of her life, Leo Edward Orsak in Blessing on March 6, 1954.  From this union, three sons were born.

Frances was a life-long member of the Church of Christ in Palacios, Texas where she faithfully attended along with her extended family for years before retiring in her older age to live by her sons.  She even had her own special foot rest at this church since her five feet tall stature would not allow her feet to touch the ground.

Her diminutive height did not stop her spit- fire personality.  As she often said of herself, “Dynamite comes in small packages.”  Frances was known for her love of square dancing, bowling, Blue grass music, traveling and volunteering at the Palacios Senior Center.  In her younger years, she worked for Alcoa for thirteen years, later Feather and Sons Insurance, Heart Dentistry, was an Avon seller and worked at the local drug store.

J. R. “Dad” Owens Dead

Mr. J. R. “Dad” Owens died this morning at the Loos Hospital following an operation which was preformed a few days ago, the only hope left by which his life might be saved.

Dad had been ill for some time and would not go to the operating table until his trouble had reached its last stages. The doctor from the very first gave out little hope for him.

Mr. Owens and his invalid wife have lived in Bay City for two or three years, coming here from North Texas. He worked at odd jobs and cared for his wife with tender care and devotion. Unique in character and a ready conversationalist, he made may friends and acquaintances and, perhaps, never met a stranger.

Inasmuch as he was mainstay and provider for his helpless wife, who is left dependent, his death carries with it unusual sadness.

Not much is known of Mrs. Owens’ life, but The Tribune has been informed that he leaves four children by a former marriage.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 6 o’clock. The service to be conducted at the cemetery.
