Maggie L. O’Bannon

Services will be held for Maggie L. O’Bannon, 89, of Sweeny on June 25 at 9:30 am at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.  Officiating will be the Rev. B. J. Sparks.

O’Bannon died June 23 at the home of her daughter in West Columbia.

Survivors include her daughter Mrs. H. W. (Lurline) Pool of West Columbia; her sons J. T. Reeves of Bay City and M. G. Reeves of Sweeny; daughters-in-law Helen Reeves and Edwina Reeves of Bay City and Faye Reeves of Sweeny; sisters Mrs. G. I. Sewell and Mrs. Tinnie Sewell of Sweeny; brothers Joe Richardson of Sweeny and Bob Richardson of Victoria;

Grandchildren Jeanette Butler, Charles Pool, Jimmy and Jerry Reeves, Mary Jane Yelderman and Donna Hales; and her great-grandchildren Britten, James and Earnest Sewell, and Morris, Joyce and Garland Richardson.

Burial will follow services at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.  Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Faye Jeanette Austin O’Dell
January 22, 1944 – May 27, 2014

Faye Jeanette Austin (O’Dell) was born January 22, 1944 and passed away May 27, 2014 after long, brave battle with breast cancer. She never let it get the best of her.

Faye was born to mother, Melvin Austin and father, Eddie Austin in Bay City Texas. She moved to Oakland, California in 1959. She attended Junior High School at Woodrow Wilson and graduated in 1962 from Oakland Technical High School. She graduated with a degree in Hospital Administration from Alameda College and Santa Clara University.

She is survived by sisters, Cleora Boone of Texas; and Lois Hill of Vallejo, California. Her family included nieces and nephews, Ricky Austin, Andrea Moore, Nathaniel Moore, Jacqueline Moore and Gregory Moore of Texas. Also nieces and nephews, Monique Mestayer, Yvette Goodman, Sonya Cross and Nicole Cross.

Faye also leaves behind many loving great-nieces, nephews and a host of cousins.

Faye was preceded in death by both parents; step-parents; and nephews, Ollie Moore Jr. and Darryl Cross.

At Faye’s request, no services will be held.

Funeral services for Candelario Oros Sr., 63, of Bay City will be held 3:30 pm Thursday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Macalica, Brother Valdez and Brother Richard Perales officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Mr. Oros was born Feb 2, 1928, and died Sept. 24, 1991, at Matagorda General Hospital.

A resident of Bay City for 22 years, he was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include his wife, Eliaz B. Oros of Bay City; two daughters, Esmaralda Garay and Yolonda Zamora both of Bay City; five sons, Candelario Oros Jr., Jessie Oros, Joe Oros, Fred Oros and David Oros, all of Bay City; two sisters, Maria Oros and Anita Oros, both of Bay City; three brothers, Santiago Oros Sr., Sebastian Oros and Juan Oros Sr., all of Bay City, 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Petra Oros, who died in 1989, and a brother, Jessie Oros, who died in 1967.

Arrangements were made with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Leo Edward Orsak
27 April 1934 – 10 June 2014

PALACIOS - Leo Edward Orsak , 80, of Palacios, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014. He was born to Jerry Orsak and Mary Vasek in Bay City, Texas on April 27, 1934. He graduated from Tidehaven High School in 1952. In 1954 he married Opal Frances Carter, his wife of sixty years.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Frances, a son Larry and wife Susan of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, a son Gary and wife Julie of Farmington, New Mexico, a son Thomas and wife Alicia of New Braunfels, Texas, eight grandchildren, Thomas, Travis, Robin, Jennifer, Amber, Susan, Trey and Brock, twenty two great grandchildren with one on the way and a sister, Rosemary Harvey of Blessing, Texas.

Leo was loved dearly by all. He was a great father, always actively participating in all that his sons were involved in. They could always count on him being there for them. He taught them to work hard, love God and their family and he set that example for them. He loved people and loved nothing more than getting together with all of his family and friends and talking or driving them around in his beloved red 1959 T bird convertible or working on his old Kubota tractor. He will be sorely missed by many.

Visitation will be held in the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Palacios, Texas on Thursday, June 12 from 4-6 p.m. Services will be held Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Palacios, Texas at 10 a.m. Intermit services will be held immediately following at the Palacios Cemetery in Palacios, Texas.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Brock, Thomas, Travis, and Trey Orsak, Samuel Packard, Mark Dowdle and his nephew Tim Harvey.

Funeral services for Emil J. Ottis, 88, of Bay City will be held 10 am Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Monsignor James Brunner, the Rev. Charles Sonnier and the Rev. Ed Mundwiller officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck. A rosary will be held 7 pm today at the Knights of Columbus Hall followed by a family and friends Christian wake service at 7:30 pm at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Otis was born July 1, 1900, in Okarche, Okla., to John Henry and Anna Ottis and died Sept. 3, 1988, at Matagorda House, Bay City.

Mr. Ottis resided in Wadsworth from 1910 until 1959 when he moved to Bay City.  He was a retired rice farmer.  He was active of both 3rd and 4th degree the Knights of Columbus and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Fief Ottis of Bay City; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert R. and Phyllis Ancona Ottis of Houston; two sisters, Helen Lundin of Port Lavaca and Eileen Gassen of Hearne, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law Tom M. and Ella Ottis of Bay City, Matt K. and Lucille Ottis of Wadsworth, Katherine Ottis of Bay City and Minnie Ottis of Wadsworth; five grandchildren, Emil J. Ottis II and wife Charla of Austin, Anthony I. and wife, Linda Ottis of San Antonio, Robert Ottis Jr. of Austin, Clara Nell Ottis Lambert and husband, Larry of Houston and Yvonne Marie Ottis of San Antonio; a great grandchild, Christina Elise Ottis of San Antonio; and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. 

Pallbearers include Emil J. Ottis II, Anthony I. Ottis, Robert Ottis Jr. Larry L. Lambert Jr., Edward Ottis and Charles Ottis.  Honorary pallbearers include Tom M. Ottis, Matt Ottis, Charles Maurer, Cleveland Stredic and all nephews.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Holy Cross School Foundation. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Wadsworth resident Frank M. Ottis, 67, expired Wednesday in St. Joseph’s Hospital of Houston and funeral services were held Friday morning, with requiem mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

A resident of Matagorda County since 1910, Ottis was a native of Oklahoma.  He was a retired rice farmer, member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly No. 803 of Houston, and the Third Degree Council No. 3070 in Bay City.

Rev. C. J. Martin officiated, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Taylor Brothers. 

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. John Rother of Bay City, Mrs. Pat Lundin of Port Lavaca and Mrs. George Gassen of Hearne; six brothers, Matt, Tom, Fred and John of Wadsworth, Emil of Bay City and John of Okarche, Okla.  Molly Lockwood Ottis, wife of the deceased, preceded him in death in 1958.

Pall bearers were Tom Huston, Charles Ottis, G. P. Ottis, Edward Ottis, Robert Ottis, Johnny Rother, Patrick Lundin and Dick Ottis. Honorary pallbearers included, F. G. Cobb, Jim Sisk, Dr. F. E. Bennie Erven Owen
(November 21, 1936 - March 11, 2014)

Bennie Erven Owen, 77, of Bay City passed away March 11, 2014. He was born November 21, 1936 in Iago, Texas to the late Harvey Ray Owen and Myrtle Anne Prukop Owen. Bennie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a fourth generation farmer.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Owen; daughter Sarah Webster and husband Wade; sons Troy Owen, Frankie Owen and fiance Sarah Walsh, all of Bay City; sisters Betty Grammer of Spring, TX and Virginia Smith of Yellow Pine, TX and grandchildren Ashton Owen, Austin Webster, Larissa Webster, Jaslyn Webster, Seith Owen and Gage Owen, Spencer & Hannah Walsh.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm until 7pm Thursday and the funeral home. Funeral service will be 4:00 PM Friday, March 14, 2014 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Warren Muntz officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Adam Hatfield, Michael Campbell, Taylor Roberts, Robert Davis, Jason Roe and Ty Alford.

Mr. Fred Owen, Sr., 48, of Van Vleck, died in an automobile-truck accident in Van Vleck July 9.  Survivors include: mother, Mrs. Birdie Owen of Van Vleck; daughter Mrs. Frode Andersen, Jr. of Markham; sons, Fred, Jr., David Wayne and Michael James all of Cedar Lane; sisters, Dorothy Parker of Arizona, Evelyn Smith of Midfield and Wanda Dye of Cedar Lane; brothers, W. H. Jr. of Bay City, Leo of Van Vleck, Roy Dean of Cedar Lane and Carl Douglas of Rosharon; two grandsons, Frode, III and Adam Andersen.  Services will be held at Taylor Brothers Chapel July 11 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. H. S. Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Martha Owen

Martha Owen, 69, of Bay City, died Friday, October 11, 2002 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born June 7, 1933 in Frydek, Texas, to the late Josef Zernicek and Mary Silva. She was a nurse for Matagorda General Hospital, Bay Villa and Matagorda House.

She is survived by: daughters and son-in-laws, Mona and Sampson Gardner of Bay City, Elizabeth Owen of New Mexico, Dina and Edward Hite of Austin, Janet and Bobby Wood of Vanderbilt, and Mary Jean Owen of New Mexico; sons and daughter in law, William Owen of New Mexico, Joseph Owen of Moulton, and Emil and Mary Ann Owen of Eagle Lake; one sister, Louise Seward of Ark.; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Owen; parents; sisters, Mary Ann Zernicek, Antonia Heinrich, Gabriella Zernicek, Frances Huggins, Gabriella Zernicek, Josephine Zernicek; brothers, Joseph, Frank, Emil, Ludwig, Alois, and George Zernicek.

Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday October 15, 2002, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers include: William Owen, III, Joseph Owen, Emil Owen, Sampson Gardner, Jr., Edward Hite, Bobby Wood, Sampson Gardner, III, William Herman Owen, IV, Scotty James Gardner, and Allan Huggins.
