Funeral Services for Mrs. Annie B. Naiser were set for 10 am today at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Father Charles Sonnier officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.  The rosary was said by the Father Sonnier at 7 pm Dec. 18, at the Bay City Funeral Home.

Mr. Naiser, 91, was born June 24, 1892 in Dime Box, Texas, and died Dec. 16, 1983, at El Campo Memorial Hospital in El Campo. She was member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, honorary member of the Altar Society and a member of KJST.

Mr. Naiser is survived by; a son, Johnnie Naiser of Canyon Lake; a sister, Mrs. Frances Kocurek of Cameron; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. 

Six grandson served as pallbearers: James Lee Naiser; George P. Grimes; Anthony Naiser; James C. Naiser; Dennis Naiser; and Phillip Huver.  Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Library Fund.  Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Betty Raeciel Neely
January 6, 1927 –May 5, 2014

Betty Raeciel Neely, 87, of Beulah, North Dakota, passed away on May 5, 2014, at Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen, North Dakota.

Raeciel was born on January 6, 1927, in Blackwell, OK, to Raymond Leslie and Luciell Elizabeth Waggerman.

Raeciel was preceded in death by her daughter, Diana Luciell Neely; husband, Vernon R. Neely, Sr.; mother and father, Raymond Leslie and Luciell Elizabeth Waggerman; sister, Arlene Violet Koym; nephew, Brian Leslie West; brothers-in-law, Douglas McClellan West, Henry Wallace Koym, Jr. and Joe Ray Beard.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Cheryl Lee Neely; sister, Imogene Rose Beard; granddaughter, Meggaen Cyle Neely; great-granddaughter, Hayley Marie Foley; nieces and nephews, Christopher Lee Foley, Jeffery Wade Koym, Sally Ann Koym, Sandra Gayle West and Scott Alan West.

Visitation was held on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah, ND.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2014, at Barbot Funeral Home.

Burial was at Beulah City Cemetery.

Funeral services were not arranged this morning for Mary Lou Neff, 81, who died here early today.

Born in Ashby, Texas, Mrs. Neff has lived in Palacios for many years.

She is survived by her husband, J. W. Neff of Palacios; a daughter, Mrs. Christine Singer of Palacios; a son, Robert Edward Heinemann of Palacios; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Singer of Palacios and Mrs. Billie Smith of Bandera; and a brother, George W. Hick of Palacios.

Gil Nelsen

Funeral services for Gil Nelsen, 81, of Palacios were held May 1, 2014 at the Danevang Lutheran Church.

Gil was born on August 8, 1932 in Danevang, Texas where he learned to love working the land and  peacefully went on to greener pastures on April 28, 2014 in Victoria, Texas.

A United States Navy veteran, he became an exciting chemistry teacher, teaching students to engage in experiments rather than just read about it. Later he worked in the oilfield throughout the great state of Texas and then retired in Palacios, Texas at his ranch “Cowpatty Haven.”

Gil was preceded in death by his beloved wife Caroline “Suzy” Nelsen and both parents Hans and Anna Emilie Andersen Nelsen.

Gil precedes his brothers, Dan Nelsen (of Victoria) and Alton Nelsen (of Blessing), in death; even though he is the youngest, Gil always claimed to be the “big” brother. Cherished father of Dolores Key, Karen Nelsen, Carol Longoria (Gerald Longoria), Joanne Brown, Linda Czerwieniec, and James White. Fun-loving grandfather to Jennifer, Jessica, Justin, Bryson, Elisa, Nicolaas, Jessica Marie and Maria.

Arrangements were made with Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo.

F. L. Nelson

Funeral services for F. L. Nelson (widely known as Squeak), 75, of Bay City were scheduled for 1 p. m. Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Nelson was born Aug. 4, 1911, in Orr, N. D., and died at 12:30 a. m. April 24, 1987, at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was employed as a petroleum engineer with Amoco Oil Co. for 40 years. He served as a lieutenant in World War II and was chosen as the Outstanding Citizen of Bay City in 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Loviner Nelson of Bay City; a son, David Nelson, and wife, Brenda, and daughter, Jessica, all of Austin; a son, Doug Nelson and wife, Marilee, and son, Douglas, all of Houston; a daughter, Lynn Monteith and husband Dorance and daughter, Allison, all of Houston; a brother, Murill Nelson of Seattle, Wash.; and a sister Gayle Dalton of LaMoure, N. D.

Pallbearers include David Nelson, Doug Nelson, Douglas Nelson, Dorrance Monteith, Pat Childs and Russell Matthes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Bay City Library Memorial Fund, Holy Cross Catholic School Foundation or the Matagorda County Women's Crisis Center.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Loviner Hebert Nelson

January 1, 1926 -
February 7, 2015

Loviner Hebert Nelson, 89, of Bay City, Texas, was surrounded by her family, on Saturday, February 7, 2015, when she passed peacefully into the eternally loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Loviner was born in Hackberry, Louisiana, on January 1, 1926, to Noah and Sophie Hebert. She graduated in a class of 12 students in 1942, from Hackberry High School, and later attended Vincent Business College and Indiana University.

In 1946, she met her future husband, Fordney Nelson, and they were married on September 21, 1946, in Sulphur, Louisiana. After transfers to Lake Charles, Houston, and Robstown, Texas, they moved to Bay City in 1956, where Loviner would raise her family and begin her many years of dedicated service to the Bay City community.

She volunteered in the Government Food Surplus Program and was active in Red Cross fund-raising, and the Foreign Student Exchange program. As a member of the Junior Service League, she helped to establish a local youth center, and was a Pink Lady at the hospital. Loviner also taught CCD religion classes at Holy Cross and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Churches. Throughout her life she supported numerous charitable causes.

Loviner loved spending quiet time at her second home on Matagorda Beach, and as a voracious reader, and with her passion of expanding knowledge through books, she was lead into volunteer work at the Bay City Public Library, for over three and a half decades. In November 2014, she was awarded the first annual “Loviner H. Nelson Award” for “Recognition of Selflessness and Dedication to the Bay City Public Library.”

Loviner was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, F.L. Nelson.

She is survived by her children, David Nelson and his wife Brenda of Austin, Texas; Doug Nelson and his wife Marilee of Hunt, Texas; and Lynn Nelson Monteith and her husband Dorrance of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Douglas Nelson Jr, Jessica Jackson, Allison Evans, Jayna DuBose, and Nelson Monteith; and her great-grandchildren, Samuel Nelson, Luke Nelson, and Ford DuBose.

Loviner’s service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1412 12th Street, Bay City, Texas, with Msgr. Gerry Cernoch officiating.

Immediately following, will be a graveside service, at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas.

Visitation will be Friday, February 13, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, 2313 Avenue I, Bay City, Texas.

Pallbearers are Douglas Nelson, Nelson Monteith, Will Evans, Chad DuBose, Kelly Teague and William Teague.

Virginia Graham Tully Neptune
 

Virginia Graham Tully Neptune, 93, of Pflugerville, Texas, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007. She was born on June 24, 1914, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the third child of Daniel Lewis Tully and Mary Virginia McIver Tully.

Virginia received her education from St. Scholastics Catholic School in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In 1935, she married Everett Brown Neptune in Okmulgee, where they lived until 1948. They relocated to Old Ocean, Texas, when her husband was transferred to the Sweeny Phillips 66 Refinery.

Her husband, Everett, died in 1972, and Virginia moved to The Woodlands, Texas, to be closer to her family. Virginia worked for Foleys and was very active in the Catholic Church while finding time for her favorite card games, bridge and canasta. In 2002, Virginia moved to Pflugerville to be closer to her three children and their families.

Virginia loved to travel and was an avid sports fan. During her lifetime, she cheered for the Okmulgee Bulldogs, Sweeny Bulldogs, Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs and the Westlake Chaparrals. She lived long enough to enjoy seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Virginia will be remembered as a gentle person who had a sweet and wonderful smile and loved her family very much. She considered her family her greatest achievement.

Virginia is survived by her son, Everett "Ebbie" Brown Neptune Jr., and daughter-in-law, Mary Sue; daughters, Linda Kay Smith and Diane Sue Krafka; grandchildren, Rebecca Neptune Gibson and husband, Scott, Elizabeth Neptune Dodge and husband, Todd, Stephanie Smith Derrick and husband, Dave, Laura Krafka Barrios and husband, Noé, Rachel Krafka Suiter and husband, Jimmy, Charles Everett Krafka and wife, Meghan, and Katherine Krafka Maloy and husband, Hunter; sister, Betty Ann Kepler; and a very special nephew, Claude Gibson; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Neptune; parents, Daniel Lewis and Mary Virginia Tully; sisters, Leona Gibson and Louise Abbott; and son-in-law, Leonard Smith.

Virginia's son, Ebbie, will not be able to attend Saturday's services as he is in McKinney, Texas, recovering from a stroke. He and Mary Sue, with his family, will celebrate a Memorial Mass to honor his mother at a later date in McKinney.

The viewing will be held on Friday, August 31, 2007, at Weed-Corley-Fish from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral Mass, a celebration of Virginia's life, will be on Saturday, September 1, 2007, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 1520 North Railroad Ave., Pflugerville, TX 78660, at 10:00 a.m.

A graveside service will be held following the funeral service at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Van Vleck, Texas, where Virginia will be buried next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church or your favorite charity.

Anh Thi Nguyen, 45, of Palacios passed away March 15, 2014. She was born January 1, 1969 in Vietnam to Vinh Van Nguyen and Tu Thi Nguyen.

BAY CITY - Randolph Lee Nicely, 50, of Bay City, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003.

He was born Dec. 18, 1952, in Covington, Va., to Anna Csokay Nicely Cook and the late Elwood Nicely.

Survivors: wife, Linda Robinson Nicely; mother, Anna Cook of Covington, Va.; daughters, Sarah Lin Nicely Lankau of Lexington, Va., Mary Elisabeth Nicely Richmond of Ft. Lewis, Wash., and Bethany Ann Nicely of Bay City; son, Daniel Randolph Nicely of Bay City; sisters, Glory Knick of Lexington, Va., and Nancy Cutlip of Blue Field, W.Va.; brother, Roger Nicely of Roanoke, Va.; and one grandchild.

The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. tonight at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at The Abundant Life Fellowship Church, the Rev. Greg McMullin officiating.

Annie Mae Nichols, Retired School Teacher

Annie Mae Nichols was born Dec. 22, 1926 in Walker County and died Jan. 22, in Huntsville.
 
Mrs. Nichols was a proud graduate of Sam Houston State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with minors in English, Fine Arts, and Social Studies. She married the love of her life in Huntsville on July 21, 1950. She and W.E. Nichols met in the five-and-dime store where Mrs. Nichols worked while attending school.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Huntsville, since 1988 when she moved her membership and relocated to this area. Prayer Ministries have been a vital part of her life with faith and belief that prayer is very essential in all church ministries. The Agape Class held a special place in her heart where love and kindness was shown. All of the staff members at the Lexington Center were held close in her heart, as well. She cherished her time there and was so grateful for the love and caring that surrounded her during her final months.

After retirement with teaching experience, she became interested in writing inspirational poetry. Her works are published in anthologies in the U.S. by the International Library of Poetry with international recognition as well by Noble House publishers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Elmer Nichols, Jr.; son, Ronald William Nichols; parents, William Harmon and Ena M. Strickland; brother, William Harmon Strickland and sister, Minnie O. Aleivine.

Survivors include sister and husband, Louise C. and Luther Laskie of Riverside; sister Ellen Gardner of Bryan; sister and husband, Dorothy J. and E.F. Arnold of The Woodlands; sister Lorene Parchman Morris of Bryan; sister and husband, Betty J. and Claudene Pierce of Riverside; sister-in-law Helen Strickland of Huntsville brother-in-law and wife Jack and Ramona Nichols, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive visitors from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday and services will follow in the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Huntsville at 2 p.m. with Rev. Carroll Williams officiating. A private burial will be held on Monday at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers are Donnie Bilnoski, Ray Alewine, Sam Adams, Joe Strickland, Marc Strickland and Jack Nichols. Honorary pallbearers are Luther Laskie, E.F. Arnold, Claudene Pierce and Glyn Madden.

Mrs. Nichols will be fondly remembered for her engaging smile, love of life, exuberance, positive attitude, and kindness.

Frances F. Neitsch

(September 24, 1925 - October 11, 2014)

Frances Frankson Neitsch, 89, of Palacios, passed away October 11, 2014 in Port Lavaca. Frances was born in Palacios, Texas on September 24, 1925 to parents, William H. and Edith Loff Frankson. She was very loving and devoted to her family and was a lifelong and faithful member of the Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Wilbur and Wayne Frankson, a husband, Jack Coursey and a husband, Milton Neitsch. She is survived by a daughter, Judy Frankson, granddaughter and husband Jody and Brad Carter, great grandchildren, Mason and Landry Carter, brother, Raymon and wife Carol Frankson, sister in law, Florence Frankson, Step sons, Jack Coursey and wife Diane, Milton Neitsch, Jr. and wife Jimmi, Lewis Neitsch and wife Bridget, step daughter, Nancy Macune and husband Ray, 10 step grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews all of whom were very dear to her.

Visitation will be held on Sunday October 12th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Palacios Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 13 at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Palacios with Rev. David King officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday October 14, with a graveside service at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston at 2:00 PM.

Margaret Nixon

October 11, 1942 - December 25, 2014

Funeral services for Margaret Nixon, 74, of Bay City, TX, will be held Saturday, January 3, at 11 a.m., at Mother Zion Baptist Church, Bay City, with Rev. Murray Martin, pastor. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 2, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

She was born in Wharton, Texas, October 11, 1942, to A.D. Nixon and Athenia Bankston Nixon, and passed away December 25, 2014, in Bay City.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorena Neal, and Darlene ‘Doll’ Wiley, both of Bay City; and two sisters Viola Thompson of Bay City, and Nina Hadden of Eagle Lake. Also, a host of grand and great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

Services Held Tuesday For Ezekiel P. Noble, Former Deputy Sheriff

Funeral services for Ezekiel Pickens Noble were held at the Palacios Funeral Home, Tuesday January 1, 1963 at 3:30 p. m. with Rev. A. T. Dyal, of the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City, officiating, followed by interment in the Palacios Cemetery.

A son of the late Ezekiel and Mary J. Atkinson Noble, he was born February 4, 1899 in Jackson County, Texas. In 1928 he moved to Palacios and except for several years when he lived in Bay City, he had his home here. He served as Deputy Sheriff of Matagorda County for many years, was with the prison system at Brazoria and chief of police here. For the past few years he has operated the Harbor Inn.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Presbyterian Church.

He died Sunday night, December 30, after a lingering illness.

He is survived by his wife, Zerline, one son, Marion Noble of Venezuela, South America; four sister, Miss Sadie Noble, Mrs. T. M. Dodd and Mrs. C. W. Yarbouth, all of Orange, Texas and Mrs. G. M. Edwards of Angleton; three brothers, J. D. Noble of Wharton, E. M. Noble of Palacios and W. T. Noble of Edna.

Funeral Services For H. C. Noel Held at Ennis

Final rites for Harry Clifford Noel, 72, of Bay City were held Friday at the Keever Funeral Home at Ennis. Burial was in Rice Cemetery there.

The manager of the Noel Company here died May 24.

He is survived by his wife and four sons, James of Bay City, Leon of Dallas, Wayne of Beaumont, and Marshal of New Jersey.

Taylor Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Louise Norman

Bertha Louise Norman, 91, of Sweeny, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on April 19, 2001. She was born Sept. 30, 1909 in Bay City to George Lester and Lemma Agnes Richardson Sewell.

She is survived by: daughters and sons-in-law, Naomi and Laverne Swinney of California, Phyllis and Loyd Hendershot of Sweeny, Zana and Wayne Ellis of Blessing, Margie and Fred Mielsch of Cedar Lane, Faye and James Pounders of Brazoria; sons and daughters-in-law, G. W. and Margaret Hanna of Sweeny, Ray and Daisy Hanna of Sweeny, Elby and Van Hanna of Sargent, Paul and Shelly Hanna of Bay City; sister, Madeline Magness of Longview, Texas; brother, Briten Sewell of Sweeny; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Hanna of Brazoria; step-sons, Billy Ray Norman of Columbia Lakes, and Paul Dean and Frances Norman, both of San Antonio; "adopted" children, John Henry Burkett of Cedar Lane, Rita Dykes of Sugar Valley, Sandy Meyerdirk of Bay City; 39 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great granchildren. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Van Vleck and she was known throughout the area and loved by many.

Bertha was an avid gardener, she loved to read and crochet, and she was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny, with the Rev. Jeri Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

She was preceded in death by; her husbands, W. R. Norman and W. V. Hanna; parents; daughters, Quinda Hanna and Agnes and Melvin Merritt; son, Wesley Hanna; sister, Hixie Flowers; brother George Sewell. Pallbearers inculde Mike Ellis, Mark Hanna, Lester Merritt, Brad Finley, Bobby Hanna, and Anthony Pounders. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of The First Baptist Church of Van Vleck, P.O. Box 541, Van Vleck, TX 77482. The family received visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
