Jamie Lynn Brown McMillan was born in Joliet, Illinois, on December 7, 1956 to James and June Brown.

Jamie met Jeff McMillan in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they were both employed.

Her daughter, Mattia, was four years old when Jeff and Jamie married in October 1992. They made Bay City their home where Jamie was a stay-at-home mom while Mattia was in school. The Live Oak Ministry grew out of Jamie’s heart to minister to those in need. She encouraged others to help make sack lunches to deliver to the residents, held Bible Schools for the children, and organized community gatherings with activities and, of course, the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Jamie discovered she had a heart for working with the residents of nursing homes while spending time caring for Jeff’s great grandmother at her nursing home bedside. After completing the necessary training, Jamie found her place of ministry at Matagorda Nursing and Rehab Center where she served for three years.

After a long battle with cancer, Jamie went to her heavenly reward on Sunday, July 4, at the Houston Hospice.

The celebration of Jamie’s life will took place on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating.

At Jamie’s request everyone is invited to join the family in the church gym after the memorial service for a time of sharing memories and praising God for her entry into the glorious presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jamie is survived by: her husband, Jeff McMillan; daughter, Mattia of Bay City; father, Jim Brown and wife T.J. of Sherman, Texas; sister, Dolores Brown of San Diego; brother, Rick Brown and wife Pattie of Sherman, Texas; stepsister, Michele Choquet of Irving, Texas; nephews, Jon Brown, of Sherman, LCPL Jarred Hargrove of Afghanistan & Randall Pearson of Irving, Texas; and nieces, Alicia and Ericka Morris of San Diego.

She was preceded in death by her mother, June Brown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to an account set up in Jamie’s name to pay medical costs at First Baptist Church, 2321 Avenue F, or the Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Boulevard., Houston TX 77030-4123 or the Gideon International, P O Box 1007, Bay City TX 77404-1007, in memory of Jamie McMillan.
