Brent Paul Marceaux
August 29, 1956 - May 06, 2021

Brent Paul Marceaux, 64, of Bay City passed away May 6, 2021 after a battle with COVID19.  He was born August 29, 1956 in Kaplan, Louisiana to Paul D. Marceaux and Helen Trahan Marceaux.

Brent was a family man first.  He was a devoted husband, who often told his family that his wife Kim was the best thing to ever happen to him.  He taught his family love, kindness, generosity, compassion, integrity, responsibility, loyalty, patriotism, and respect for others.  Brent would do anything for his kids, his love and support were limitless.  And he always made it clear that no matter the situation, he was there for you.  He showed up for everything from baseball games to dance recitals.  As most recitals were held on weekends, he could also be counted on to bring a portable TV for the LSU game.  His grandkids called him Pepeux, pronounced puhpuh, but French-ified because that was his way.  He loved to spoil his grandkids on trips, usually to include lots of sweet treats.

After family, Brent most loved cooking for others.  Food was love and he shared it with all.  He fed nearly everyone in Bay City at least once, at your house or his, as owner of a catering business, as volunteer for fundraisers and benefits, at supper clubs, and in countless other settings.  He was famous for his Cajun dishes including seafood gumbo, etouffee, and crawfish boils... it was all Ceaux Goode!

Good friends were incredibly important to Brent, and he was the type of man to make sure they all knew how much he cared for them.  Brent never met a stranger and everyone who got to know him felt like his family.  Shopping trips to HEB frequently turned into an all-day affair.  He wanted to be a positive part of everyone’s life and embodied the saying Laissez les bons temps rouler.  Brent loved fishing, trailer camping with Kim, travel, gardening, and duct tape.

Brent was a public servant. At the time of his passing, he was City Councilman in Bay City. He had also served on the BCISD School Board, Holy Cross School Board, and in many other capacities. He was highly involved in the community, including memberships in the Knight of Columbus, Lions Club, and Vestry of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. He had a variety of occupations, and no matter where he worked, he was dedicated to the task at hand and helped people at every turn.  He supported Bay City sports throughout his life and embodied the spirit of Blackcat Fight Never Dies!

Survivors include his mother Helen Marceaux; his wife Kim Howze Marceaux; son Shawn Marceaux & his wife Erin Tyson Marceaux; daughter Julie Marceaux Latson & her husband Shane Latson; sister Gerri Marceaux; brothers Keith Marceaux and Sandy Marceaux; and grandchildren Fisher Marceaux, Beatrice Marceaux, Wyatt Latson and Hank Latson.

Funeral services will be private.  Those desiring may join the family at Cedarvale Cemetery North at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 11, 2021 for the interment service.  If attending, we respectfully ask you to wear a mask and to observe social distancing.

Franklin James Miller, Sr.

March 31, 1968 - December 31, 2020

Franklin James Miller, Sr., 52, of Bay City passed away December 31, 2020. He was born March 31, 1968 in Charleston, South Carolina to Henry James Miller and Nancy Jeane Stevens Miller.

Frankie Miller was defined by many titles: son, brother, uncle, coach, pastor, husband, and father. So anxious to begin life, he was born in an elevator on the way to the delivery room. He grew up rambunctious and fun-loving, immediately making friends wherever he went. He loved playing football, riding his bike, and horsing around with his friends and family daily. He was the life of the party wherever he went – his smile, as well as his dancing, could truly light up the darkest room.

During his twenties, he met the love of his life Kristi, on a trampoline at a birthday party. They married nine months later surrounded by family and friends in New Milford, Connecticut. Shortly after, they moved to Texas to pursue ministry and start their life together.

Frankie was a millwright by trade, but found a deeper passion working in Children’s ministry and as a football coach in his community. His greatest joy was being a husband to Kristi for 26 years, and a dad to Brittany Rose, Aubry Joy, Frankie Jr., and most recently, his honorary son, Josh. He was a wonderful role model to young people everywhere, as well as his coworkers and friends. He loved Jesus with all his heart, and always brought joy to others. He was truly a righteous man in every sense. He will be dearly missed by so many, but none more than his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Emanuel Schaarschmidt, nephew Justin Purdy and Grandmother Thelma Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Kristi Schaarschmidt Miller; parents Henry and Nancy Miller; daughters Brittany Rose Miller and Aubry Joy Miller; son Franklin James Miller, Jr.; sister Nia Dubret (Michael) and brothers Greg Miller and Wade Miller (Lisa Mason Miller); mother-in-law Patricia Grant & husband Albert; brothers-in-law Lee Schaarschmidt (Deb), Jason Schaarschmidt and Dan Purdy; sisters-in-law Cindy Lu McTiernan (Larry) and Christine Miller; uncle Frank Stevens and aunt Anne Craft as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Caden Bradford, Joey Davalos, Ashton Wallace, David Perez, Frankie Miller Jr., Joshua Dalphinis and Mike Hutson. G. P. Mims was born in Dooley County, Georgia. At the age of about 21 he came to Texas, and located in Anderson County. Here he was married to Miss Hulda Mize. To this union were born five children, four sons and one daughter, all living but the daughter, Mrs. Ella Baker, a former resident of Palacios, but who died in 1918, during the flu epidemic.

Mr. Mims later moved with his family to Groveton, where he was engaged in the mercantile business for about thirty years. He was an active church worker in Josherine and Groveton, being Sunday School Superintendent in the two places for years.

His health failing him he finally came to Palacios, and improved. In the course of a year his wife became ill and they returned to Groveton, where she died in 1909. He returned to Palacios which has since been his home.

In 1912 he was married to Miss Lizzie Marsh, who survives to mourn his loss.

Mr. Mims was taken to Trinity last February to be with his sons and have their care during his last illness. He was surrounded by his old-time friends who came in to see “Uncle George” and recall their memories of S. S. and the influence he had on their childhood lives.

He passed away October 25 and was laid to rest in the family lot at Groveton. Rev. Jesse Lee of Huntsville, aided by Rev. Connell of Trinity, conducted the funeral services. Bro. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a flight engineer on many different aircraft, most notably the C-47, retiring honorably after 22 years as a Master Sergeant, with a Distinguished Flying Cross among many other awards and medals. His love for flying carried over to his civilian life, where George held a pilot’s license for many years. With his strong work ethic, he wasted no time moving on to his second successful career with Phillips 66, also retiring after 22 years.

George was a captivating storyteller, pulling his audience in with a smile that let you know he was reliving the moment. From the time George was a young boy, he loved the outdoors. George was an expert marksman, hunter, and avid fisherman. After retiring, he loved spending summers at his cabin on the river near Gladstone, MI, where he was born and raised. Just a couple of Upper Peninsula winters was enough for him to decide, being near family in Bay City, TX was the perfect winter spot. George was a generous, hard-working, tell it like it is man, he lived life to the fullest, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Our family is grateful for all who have reached out to send flowers or gifts, we believe Daddy’s memory would best be honored by helping a family in need, donating to a local charity or church. Most recently he has been helping the community through Matagorda County Love Thy Neighbor. http://mclovethyneighbor.org/home.html

Connie Mae Moberley

July 5, 1947 – January 12, 2021

Connie Moberley passed away in her studio on January 12, 2021, in Houston, Texas with her family at her bedside.  Connie was born on July 5, 1947, in Bay City, Texas, the second daughter of Doris Bell Moberley and Oscar Rucks Moberley.  Her father preceded her in death.

Connie lived a LARGE life and will be dearly missed by many good friends and family, among them, her spouse and dance partner Pamela Kunkle Moberley; her girls, Lemaria and Laila Smith; mother, Doris Bell Moberley; sister and brother-in-law, Pat Moberley Moore, and Clifford A. Moore.  She also leaves behind two uncles and cousins of the Frank and Nora Bell and the Oscar R. Moberley families.

Connie grew up in Matagorda, Texas and attended Matagorda Elementary, Bay City Junior, and Senior high schools.  She was well-liked by her peers, where she was active in school politics and elected “Class Favorite.”  She has loved taking pictures since high school, where she filmed and took pictures during football games. A core group of college friends and Bay City High School friends gets together annually. Loving the outdoors, she spent time at the beach, surfing, waterskiing, riding her horse, and working the cows. She graduated from Sam Houston State University with a B.S. in Photography.  Connie asked the university to mail her diploma since she and her sister Pat were invited to Honolulu to live on and sail with an all-girl crew, with plans of sailing to Japan.  After a few months, sister Pat returned to Texas, while Connie stayed in Hawaii to teach photography for a semester at the University of Honolulu.

Connie returned to Houston and started her own company Photoworks, which specialized in commercial photography. She memorialized the Houston landmark Pennzoil building and furnishings in photo history. Connie installed the yellow school bus mural at the original Children’s Museum and the Houston skyline murals displayed for 20 plus years at the Veterans Hospital.  Connie was creative and broke many barriers. She secured assignments such as photographing the Molybdenum mining process and shooting aerial photography of offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico while tethered to the helicopter.  When hired to photograph Houston's underground cistern, she improvised lighting techniques to get the perfect shot.  Petersen’s National Photographic Magazine chose Connie as their photographer of the year in 1978, featuring her work and using one of her oil & gas related photos for the cover. After selling Photoworks, she continued as a freelance photographer, capturing images in Spain, Russia, Europe, and the United States. In Connie’s spare time, she edited and published several books through her company Treeline Multimedia.

Connie, her parents, sister Pat, and friends pioneered the Salt Grass Trail rides to the Matagorda County Livestock Show. Connie and the Moberley family were featured in the book Historic Matagorda County, a compilation of biographies and family histories of people living in Matagorda County.

A memorial gathering is planned later in Matagorda, Texas. In place of flowers, the family suggests any memorial donations be made to The American Cancer Society or the Matagorda Methodist Church.

George was born in Detroit Michigan on August 24th, 1941 to his late parents George Walter Morte Sr and Roselee Morte.

George has always loved the outdoors and on one hot summer day at a local swimming pool in Odessa Texas, he met and soon married the love of his life Pamela.  George and Pamela shared 59 years of wonderful marriage together.  Life together started in Houston where George began his career with GMAC.  In 1982 George started his own business called "George's Exxon" which was a full-service gas station located on 7th street in Bay City.  He successfully ran his new family business with his sons and his wife Pam until 1998.  George took good care of many local cars keeping them safe on the road. This passion for cars carries on today through his son Todd Morte and many of his grandsons.  After his successful run with George's Exxon, he went on to dedicate his talents to the county of Matagorda as a road operator until he took a well-deserved retirement in Bay City, his residence for over 50 years.

George's love for the outdoors shined through his hobbies which included boating and fishing adventures with his Dad and friends. He also enjoyed a great game of tennis, whether he was playing with friends or son Trey, or even watching an exciting tournament on TV.

George and Pam have been long-time members of the Nichols St Church of Christ. George has always had a servant's heart, he enjoyed regularly volunteering at the Harvest House.  He also loved his gardening and on many occasions would volunteer his time grooming the church grounds. His character was true as an accountable, responsible, trustworthy, and kind individual that will continue to be celebrated.
