The past-midnight silence of last Sunday was shattered by the sounds of six fire alarm whistles piercing one of the coolest nights of the season.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. last Sun. (Nov. 22), a six alarm fire call rang across the city of Palacios as the trailer home of San Juan and Ana Moreno and their two small children located at 1007 Shark Dr. was engulfed in flames.

Fueled by the whipping north wind, the fire consumed the trailer in a matter of minutes. San Juan and Anna, along with a 5-month old infant managed to escape the smoke and flames but the couples two and a half-year old daughter Analyh Moreno perished in the inferno.

By the time firefighters arrived, nothing more could be done except ensure the blaze didn’t spread to nearby properties.

San Juan, Ana and the 5-month old infant were taken by ambulance to receive medical treatment for undisclosed injuries.

Firefighters from the Palacios Volunteer Fire Dept. were joined by members of the Blessing and Midfield VFD’s.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. A Go-Fund-Me page has been set up for donations to the Moreno family at www.gofundme.com/wfbk8s7z.
