Clarence Mabin Laird

Services will be held for Clarence Mabin Laird, 79, of Wadsworth, 3 pm Tuesday at Taylor Brothers Chapel.  Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Bob Dickens.  Laird died January 16, 1983 at the Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Survivors include wife, Mrs. Gene Laird of Wadsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Julia Laird of Bay City; sister, Mrs. Laura Greyson of Tomball; brothers, Wayne Laird of Bay City, Barnie Laird of Houston; granddaughter, Traci Laird of Bay City; a number of nieces and nephews.

Laird had been a member of the board of directors of the R.E.A. for 43 years and a member of the Soil and Water Conservation board of directors for 24 years.  He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge 81.

Burial will follow services at the Roselawn Memorial Park with graveside services by the Odd Fellows Lodge 81. 

Pallbearers will be nephews and honorary pallbearers are the members of R.E.A. and the Soil and Water Conservation Boards. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Eugene V. Laird

Funeral services for Eugene V. Laird, 94, of Wadsworth, will be Friday, Nov. 26 at 2 pm at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Haskell and Rev. Elizabeth Moreau officiating. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Visitation was at the Bay City Funeral Home on Thursday.

Mrs. Laird died Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Bay Ville Nursing Home.  She was born Oct. 27, 1905 in San Saba, Tex.

She was a longtime cafeteria worker with the Bay City School system as well as a member of the Rebecca Lodge and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Bryan Laird of Bay City; brother and sister-in-law W. O. and Aline Webb of Bay City; a sister and brother-in-law, Annie Joe and Gene Smith of Selkirk; one grandchild, and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clay, Gene Allen and Brice Laird and David, Spencer and Larry Smith.

Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

Hillard Wayne Laird Sr.

Funeral services for Hillard Wayne Laird Sr., 89, of Portland, Texas, formerly of Bay City, will be held 1 pm Thursday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck. 

Mr. Laird died unexpectedly March 26, 1990, in Corpus Christi.  His parents were the late Joseph Ray and Leontine Levissa Laird.  A long-time resident of Bay City, he was a retired farmer and a member of Primitive Baptist Church of Tomball.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Marie Laird of Portland; three sons, Wayne Laird of Arkadelphia, Ark., Gen Laird of Corpus Christi and Jim Laird of Victoria; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Laird Petty of Portland; a brother, Barney Laird of Houston; six granddaughters; two grandsons and 11 great grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Billie Ray Laird; four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Willie Marie Laird

Funeral Services for Willie Marie Laird, 94, of Portland, TX, will be at 2 pm Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999 at the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Laird died Aug. 28 at her residence.  She was born May 16, 1905 in Houston to the late Williams Lawrence and Mattie Olivia McCloud Culpepper.

She was a residence of Bay City from 1932 to 1989 when she moved to Portland and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Hilliard Wayne Laird Jr. and Edna Laird of Gurdon, Ark. and Gene Allen and Maria Laird of Corpus Christi; daughters-in-law, Ruby Petty of Portland and Wanda Laird of Mathis, Tex.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilliard Wayne Laird Sr.; sons, Billie Ray Laird and James Weldon Laird; grandson Curtis Wayne Laird; and three sisters and one brother.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Royce Rhodes, Jerry Breshears, Phillip Garcia, John Garcia, Allen Moravits, Billy Russell, Preston Ingram and Joe Santhoff.

Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of choice.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Sylvia Mae Landry
(May 27, 1917 - July 25, 2014)

Sylvia Mae Landry, 97, formerly of Bay City passed away July 25, 2014. She was born May 27, 1917 in Vinton, LA to the late George Washington Akers and Arcadie Sensat Akers. She taught at Holy Cross School for 27 years and at Van Vleck ISD for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Simon Landry and sons Larry Landry and Louis Landry. Survivors include daughters Raedona Garcia (Joel) of Centerville, TX and Phyllis Tenberg (Max) of Florida; daughter-in-law Evelyn Landry; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 30 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 9AM until Noon Wednesday at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 1:30 PM Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Funeral Mass beginning at 2:00 PM. Rev. Greg Korenek will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Stephen Saha, Craig Saha, Russell Saha, Jacob Saha, David Landry and Cade Urban. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Urban, Jonathan Evans, Kyle Urban, Cory Saha, Lance Landry, Sean Landry and Dustin Landry.

NEW DEAL - Jeannette Maxine Helton Lee, 74, of New Deal, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003.

She was born April 19, 1929, in Arkadelphia, Ark., to the late J.K. and Thelma Shores Helton. She operated a bookkeeping and income tax service.

Survivors: daughters, Theresa Ann Kocurek of Van Vleck and Jerry Duty of New Deal; sons, Robert K. Miles of Richland, Wash., William Albert Lee of Moulton, and Charles Daniel Lee of Milton, Fla.; sisters, Dorothy Mariam of Brazoria and Relda Carlton of DeKalb; brothers, Augusta Helton of Wild Peach and Pat Helton of West Columbia; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bay City Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Rev. Tom Morgan officiating.

SUGAR VALLEY - Pauline LeMaster, 80, of Sugar Valley, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004.

She was born March 11, 1924, in Rivera, Calif., to the late Jesse and Anna Mae Wilkens Cole. She was the owner and operator of LeMaster Grocery and a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church.

Survivors: sons, Jack LeMaster of Denver, and Gary LeMaster and Tim LeMaster, both of Sugar Valley; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Jack LeMaster; son, Jimmie LeMaster; sister, Phyllis Waugh; and brothers, Howard Cole and Cliff Cole.

The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, the Rev. Sam Starks officiating.

BAY CITY - Elsie LeMaster, 86, of Bay City, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004.

She was born Feb. 11, 1918, to the late Jasper and Martha Alice Romans Bowen. She was a co-owner and operator of LeMaster's Grocery, and a member of First Baptist Church of Van Vleck.

Survivors: sisters, Goldie Pruitt and Eulla Mae Damborsky, both of Edna.

Preceded in death by: husband, W. H. "Brooksie" LeMaster; sisters, Margie Bram and Jessie Lee Chapman; and brothers, Preston Bowen, Virgil Bowen, and Cecil Bowen.

Visitation will be after noon Sunday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, the Rev. Aaron Young officiating.

Funeral Services for Angelita Longoria, 67, of Angleton, are scheduled for 10 am today at the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.   A rosary was scheduled for 7 pm Monday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.

Ms. Longoria was born July 14, 1926 in Cuero to Manuel and Catarina Rodriguez Longoria and died Nov. 13, 1993 in Cypress Woods Care Center in Angleton.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors include five sisters, Lillie Sanchez of Angleton, Anita Luna of Victoria, Petra Rocha of Bay City, Otila Martinez of Kennard, La. And Linda Hernandez of Fort Worth and three brothers, Richard Longoria and Rudy Longoria of Bay City and Manuel Longoria Jr. of Angleton.

MARKHAM -- Connie Loose, 55, of Markham, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000.

She was born May 20, 1945, in Lewiston, Maine, to the late Leo and Anita Pinard Couture. She was a member of St. Robert's Catholic Church.

Survivors: husband, Henry Loose; daughter, Debbie Nemec of Markham; brothers, Paul Couture of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Dick Couture of Nashua, N.H.; and three grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel.

Funeral services for Estanislao Losoya, 91, of Markham were set for 2 pm today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Burial was to be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.  Rosary was said 7 pm Wednesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City.

Mr. Losoya was born May 7, 1901 in San Luis, Potosi, Mexico to Martin and Selsa Galvan Losoya and died March 23, 1993 at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was a member of the Catholic church and a resident of Markham for 51 years.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Felipa Losoya of Markham; seven daughters, Mary Figueroa of Alice, Eloise Yanez of Bay City, Elvira Gutierrez of Almeda, Leonor Aguilera, Belle Chavez, and Delfa Lucio, all of Markham, and Jose Tamez of Dallas; four sons, Mike Losoya of Telephone, Robert Losoya of Palacios, and Joe Losoya and Sion Losoya, both of Markham; 47 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home of Bay City.

Jehu Nathanial “Nat” Lovett, Jr.

Funeral services for Jehu Nathanial “Nat” Lovett, Jr. 48, of Van Vleck, will be 2 pm Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Hardaway officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Mr. Lovett died Dec. 25, 1999 in Bay City.  He was born September 10, 1951 in Vienna, Georgia to Jehu N. Lovett, Sr. and Gwendolyn Woods Lovett.

He was a veteran of Vietnam serving in the U.S. Army and the owner of the Neon Moon in Bay City.

Survivors include: his wife, Audrey Lovett of Van Vleck; parents, Jehu N. and Gwendolyn Lovett of Bryon, GA; two daughters, Cheryl Ledwig and husband, Scott of El Maton, and Lauren Lovett of Fort Hood, Texas; one sister, Sandee Brookings and husband, Brian of Donaldsville, Georgia; three brothers, and wife, Ruthie of Lake Charles, La., Terry Lovett and wife, Jackie of Lexington, SC, Gary Lovett and wife, Ginger of Breman, GA.; father-in-law, R. R. Mr. Lozano was born May 21, 1923, to Epefenio Lozano, and Marie Angano in Beaumont and died May 19, 1990, at Matagorda General Hospital.  He was a member of the VFW #2438 in Bay City and the Catholic church.

Survivors include a wife, Margaret Gonzales Lozano of Bay City; a daughter , Patricia Lozano of Arlington, and son and daughter-in-law, Rudy and Teodora Lozano of East Bernard; three sisters, Delores Perez and Cayatana Guanajuato, both of Bay City, and Mary Louise Rodriquez of Markham; a brother, Paul Lozano of Bay City; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Ray Garcia, Packy Martinez, Charles Martinez, Jr., Charles Martinez III, Nick Perez and Carlos Trevino.  Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Lukefahr was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Greeley, Neb., to Edgar Louis and Elsie Agnes Waugh Lukefahr and died Jan. 22, 1988 in Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

A Bay City resident since 1939, he was a veteran of the Korean War, a retired electrolyte unit supervisor for Alcoa Aluminum with 37 years’ service and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church

Holy Cross Catholic Church is survived by his wife, Bettylee Lane Lukefahr of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette Lee and Kevin Scott Schmitz of Austin, a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Renee Lukefahr Jr. of Bay City; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Bill Treybig of Kerrville, Texas, Charlotte and Billy Park of Yoakum, Texas, and Teresa Lezak of Manvel, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Polly Lukefahr of Midfield, Maurice and Nance Lukefahr of Brownsville, Texas, Paul and Glenda Lukefahr of Chula Vista, Calif.,; two grandchildren, Amanda Renee and Thomas Jack Lukefahr of Bay City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Lukefahr Moore; and a grandson, Jason Wade Lukefahr.

Pallbearers will be Owen Middleton, Bob Bell Sr., Clyde Tinnin, Carol Abraham, Bill Bennett and Floyd Bell.

James Walter Luna

James Walter Luna, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, died peacefully Monday, September 8, 2003.

Mr. Luna was born in Slayton, Texas, on March 30, 1925.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Marian Frost Luna.

Survivors include son & daughter-in-law, Bruce & Vicki Luna of Dickinson, Texas; daughter & son-in-law, Cynthia & Douglas MacKenzie of Houston, Texas; brother & sister-in-law, Floyd & Juanita Luna of Bay City, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Miranda Hedrick, Jason Orsak and Bruce Luna II; and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services for James Walter Luna were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Sweeny, Texas.

Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck [Matagorda County, Texas].
