John Larry Kennamer
September 8, 1935 - November 18, 2017
John Larry Kennamer, born September 8, 1935, passed away on Saturday,
November 18, 2017, at the Matagorda County Nursing Home in Bay City,
Texas.
John is survived by wife, Mora Kennamer. He has one son, John Joseph
Kennamer and wife Tari Kennamer, and their son, Pierce Kennamer, age 16;
a daughter, Lauren Sue Kennamer and husband Ted, two children, Garrett
Schroeder age 18, and Maria Schroeder age 22, all of Cincinnati, Ohio,
where John lived and worked until moving home to Texas twenty years
later.
John created employment agencies to form International Business
Associates with offices across the mid-west. He later would take his
corporation public on NYSE to pursue a life-long dream: to return to
Texas, buy a ranch and raise cattle.
John was also one of the largest real estate developers in the
Cincinnati area throughout the seventies, both residential and
commercial, known as American Colony Construction. Among other
interests was working with hunting dogs. He honed breeding skills by
importing a line of Springer Spaniels from Whales England and developed
them into world champion hunting dogs that competed around the world.
All this prepared him for his biggest challenge: buying 6000+ acres of
overgrown land in Van Vleck, TX and making it into a ranch where a new
breed of cattle was developed and distributed internationally. The F-1
was John's pride at stock shows and auctions everywhere cattle were
shown or raised and sold. His entry usually won first place!
John was a tough man in the spirit of many pioneering individuals.
Those who knew him understood his aim for perfection while receiving
benefits of his overly kind and generous heart. He lived in a meager
ranch cottage, happy living the life of a cattle rancher, while at the
same time becoming an active member of the county and community serving
on school boards and participating wherever he could be of service.
Many individuals know of and became recipients of his generosity in
their times of need.
John's mother lived until January 2015, and saw the achievements of her
only son. His father passed away before John left Texas A&M College in
l958 to complete a tour in the U.S. Marine Corp.
Details of services planned for John are yet to be known.
He is grievously missed.
