BAY CITY—Rosie Anna Kacer, 72, of El Maton, died Monday at 11:15 p. m. in a Bay City hospital. Born March 13, 1912, in Caldwell, she was a member of the Catholic church. Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Wednesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Gary, Joe, Mike, David and Shawn Kacer and Rod Carlsen. Honorary pallbearers will be all other grandchildren. Surviving are four daughters, Georgie Meyer of Lake Jackson, Margie Ames, Rosie Wendel and Anna Mae Bundick, all of Bay City; eight sons, Bernard Kacer of Alabama, Edwin and Edmund Kacer, both of Ganado, A. J. and Joe Kacer, both of El Maton, Frankie Kacer, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Milton Kacer of Wharton, and Larry Kacer of Needville; three sisters, Mary Ann Bazic of Chicago, Ill., Martha Leggett of Houston and Milada Janek of Bryan; two brothers, Clem and Johnnie Sobotik, both of Frenstead; 31 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kacer in 1977; and a sister, Bernice Ainsworth in 1979.

Mrs. Filomina Kalas, 81, died this morning, Sept. 19, at the Matagorda General Hospital. She is survived by one son, Joe Kalas of Palacios, a stepson, Antone Kalas of Glen Flora; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Katherine Tavlovsky, Iago and Mrs. Antonio Holubc, Bryan; one sister, Mrs. Frances Mares, Granger. Funeral services for Joe A. “PaPa Joe” Kalas, 79, will be at 10 a. m., Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Kalas died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was born Nov. 13, 1919 in Hungerford, Tex. to the late Vaclav and Filemina Maresh Kalas. Pa Pa Joe was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 6889 Palacios, and the K. J. T. He was the former owner/operator of Joe’s Grocery and a resident of Palacios since 1957. Amalie Kana, 89, of Blessing died May 1, 1981 at Matagorda General Hospital. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing. Survivors include sons: Jerome Kana of Houston, Ivan Kana of Midfield and Edwin Kana of Bay City; daughters Mar Bartosh of Blessing, Martha Mazoc of Baytown, Georgie Ann Pilgrim of Summerset, and Dorothy Oliver of Miami, Fla.; sister, Edith Mensik of Rosenberg; 27 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Elsie Bures Kana, 51, of Bay City died Aug. 10 in Matagorda General Hospital. She was born in Midfield, Feb. 24, 1924 and was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Holy Cross Altar Society and KJZT Society. Survivors include; widower, Edwin J. Kana of Bay City; mother Mrs. Theresa B. Krenek of Bay City; sons Michael J. Kana of Houston and Mark A. Kana of Bay City; daughter, Annette K. Funeral services for Joe Kana, 74, of Midfield, were held Sunday at 11 a. m. from the Blessing Catholic Church. Rev. Edward Bily officiating. Interment followed in the Blessing Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mollie, four sons, Charlie of Baytown, Jerome of Houston, Ivan of Midfield, Edwin of Bay City, four daughters, Mary Bartosh of Blessing, Martha Mazoch of Baytown; Georgie Pilgrim of San Antonio, Dorothy Oliver of New York; 28 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Kana, a retired farmer, was killed Friday near his home four miles west of Clemville on Highway 71. According to reports, he had been out in his pasture shooting at birds with a .22 automatic rifle. His body was found in his car at mid-morning. Judge D. B. Hinton ruled the death accidental.

Steve J. Knebel of El Campo, 27, oil field worker for an oil company drilling at Louise, was killed instantly Friday night when heavy machinery fell from the derrick top. Mr. Knebel was working on the floor of the derrick at the time the machinery fell. There were no other injuries. Mr. Knebel is survived by his wife and baby, mother and father and five brothers and one sister. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of El Campo Funeral Home. Burial will be in Blessing Sunday morning at 10:00 o’clock with Father Blinka officiating.

Anton Knoff, Sr., aged 85 years, died at his home, 8 miles south of Blessing, Sunday, March 5, 1933. The deceased was born in Germany and came to the United States in 1909, locating in Runnels County, Texas. For the past 19 years he has resided in Matagorda County. To Mr. and Mrs. Knoff were born thirteen sons and one daughter, and he is survived by his wife and four sons, Anton, Jr. and Joseph, of Rowena, Texas, Paul and Peter of Blessing, one brother residing in Oklahoma and one sister in Germany. Mr. Knoff served in the French-German war of 1870-71. His son, August, served in the American Army, under Gen. Pershing during the Mexican Border expedition, also with the A. E. F. in the World War. He died at the American Legion Hospital in Kerrville, Texas, Feb. 14, 1928. Funeral services for Mr. Knoff were held Tuesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing, with the Rev. Father Weber officiating. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery of the same place, under the direction of Duffy-Rittenhouse Undertaking Co. Anton Knoff and daughter, Leona, Joe Knoff, wife and son, Leonard, of Runnels County, and Adolph Patzevitsch, a grandson, of Elgin came to attend the funeral services.

Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery in Blessing. He was born August 9, 1914 in Gonzales to the late Steve S. and Mary Havel Kosarek. Until the last year, he had lived in and around Blessing the past forty years. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Army. He died Monday night, October 1, in the State Chest Hospital in San Antonio where he had been confined the past year. A six-year-old Markham boy was in critical condition today in a Houston hospital suffering from third degree burns over 85 to 90 percent of his body. Jerry Krenek, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Krenek of Markham, was playing around a campfire at his home when his clothing caught fire. Mrs. Krenek told The Daily Tribune by telephone today that Jerry is in critical condition. The child is one of 11 children in the Krenek family. He is in Methodist Hospital in Houston. The mishap occurred Monday afternoon. Jonny Edward Kubala, 54, Midfield, died Wednesday morning at Rosenberg. Born June 19, 1923 in Louise, Tex., he was retired from the United States Air Force in 1964 and employed by U. S. Postal Service in Houston. He worked previously at Bay City Post Office for eight years, and transferred to Houston two years ago. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Blessing and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his widow, Alma Kubala of Midfield; daughters, Sandra Joy, Susan Kathy and Karen Joyce, all of Midfield; sons, Robert Dean of Houston, Michael Joseph of Lafayette, La.; sister, Patricia James. Kubala Alma Marie Kubala, 98, of Midfield, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Alma was born November 22, 1925 in Fayette County, Texas to the late Henry A Adamcik and Matilda Steffek Adamcik. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Johnny E. Kubala and brothers Allen Adamcik and Alvin Adamcik. Alma was known for her vibrant gardens and her dedication to her family. She found joy in spending time outdoors, nurturing her plants and yard, and creating a beautiful outdoor space at her home, that she was very proud of. Alma found solace in quiet mornings spent on her patio, with a hot cup of coffee in hand, embraced by the beauty of the countryside. The melody of chirping birds and whispers of nature were a constant source of comfort to her. She found great joy spending time with her children, and their families. Alma’s passion for bringing loved ones together was evident in every detail of holiday celebrations, especially Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. From meticulously prepared meals to festive decorations, Alma ensured every occasion was filled with warmth, joy, delicious food, and a wonderful time. In addition to being a proud mother and an avid gardener, Alma was a very devoted Catholic and spent many years volunteering her time at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City, Texas. A rosary will be recited at 1:30 pm and Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 pm with Rev. Stephen Vacek officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Blessing, Texas. Pallbearers will be John Kubala, James Kubala, Scott Mason, John A. Nabergall III, Matthew Nabergall and Cory Waters. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Angels Care Home Health and Hospice along with Dr. Fabricio Zuniga for their compassionate care and dedication during her time of need. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Disabled American Veterans, both charities close to her heart. Alma’s legacy of love and togetherness will be cherished by all who knew her.

Funeral services for Edward Kachur, 73, will be held from the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home at 8:15 a. m. Wednesday, followed by mass in St. Peter’s Catholic Church at Blessing. Rosary was scheduled for 8 p. m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Mr. Kachur, a retired farmer and veteran of World War One, died Saturday at the veteran’s hospital in Marlin. Born in Hallettsville, April 14, 1889, Mr. Kachur had been residing in Lufkin. The lone survivor is the widow, Mrs. Mary Kachur of Hillje. Rev. Joe Hamala will officiate at the services. Interment will be made in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adolph Biskup, Jim Kosarek, Steve Kosarek, Ed Dornak, Frank Vaculin and Ben Kaspar. Funeral services for Mary Kuchar, 86, of Bay Villa Nursing Home, Bay City, and formerly of Blessing, were scheduled for 1 p. m. today at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Blessing, with the Rev. Peter Higgins officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Blessing. A rosary was scheduled for 12:30 p. m. today at the church. Mr. Kuchar was born Dec. 28, 1900, in Moulton, Texas, to Alois and Marie Balanjka Hlozek and died Jan. 27, 1987, at Matagorda General Hospital. He was a member of the Catholic church. Survivors include a sister, Lillie Pesl of Weimar, Texas; three brothers, Bob Hlozek of Moulton, Edward Hlozek of Blessing and Charlie Hlozek of El Campo; four nephews, seven nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.
