Ethel Harris King was born January 4, 1928, in Blessing, Texas, to Oscar Lancaster Harris and Lona Lee Maynard Haris. She was the youngest and last surviving of eight siblings. Ethel was reared in the small community of Blessing and recalled happy times on the farm. She said, "We were not wealthy enough to own a buggy; we had a wagon and a team of horses. If we went anywhere away from the farm we had to travel in that wagon." Some of Ethel's earliest and fondest memories are of riding horses on the farm and throughout her life she collected paintings and figurines of horses. She loved old cowboy and western songs and could sing many of them. She was one of nine graduates of her high school class and she enjoyed playing sports in high school. Ethel became a member of the Pentecostal Faith in Bay City, Texas, in 1957. Reverend Marvin Cole was her pastor then and until the day she passed from this life. She moved to Beaumont in 1967 and became a member of The Apostolic Church of Beaumont, in 1969. She was a soloist in the worship services and retained her beautiful singing voice up until a few days before her passing at Harbor Hospice. In the early 1980's, she purchased A-1 Agency, a medical sitting agency, from Mrs. Livingston, who had founded the business in 1943. At the time of her death, Ethel was still the owner of this business. Through this business, she came to know thousands of people in the Golden Triangle, as employees and also as clients. Ethel was always known to share her faith and prayers with those in need. Her own faith was strong and her concern for the well-being of others was evident. She had a great sense of humor and interspersed her conversations with bits of humor and wisdom. Her friends will always remember her for this. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and all of her seven siblings: Ruth Harris Meinke, Myrtle Harris Littleton, Frances Harris Baldree, Arnold Harris, Eula Bell Harris, Edna Harris Revel, and Oscar Harris, Jr. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews and by a host of friends who will miss her. Ethel passed peacefully from this life at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont on Monday, November 30, 2015, at the age of 87. Arranged at her request, she will be buried in Hawley Cemetery, in Blessing, Texas, on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at 3:00 P.M. In the near future, there will be a memorial service for Ethel at The Apostolic Church in Beaumont, Texas. Those wishing to remember her in a giving way may contribute to the building fund of The Apostolic Church, 3333 Eastex Fwy., Beaumont, Texas 77706.

From the Herald: Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o’clock from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for R. A. Kleska, former tax assessor and collector of Matagorda County, who was found shot to death here Monday morning. The Rev. Paul Engle officiated with Taylor Brothers in charge of the funeral arrangements. Mr. Kleska had had Mr. Ira Rose to repair a pistol and oil a 12-gauge shotgun. He had left his automobile across the street from Mr. Rose’s home where his shop is located in the back yard. A few minutes after Mr. Kleska left the shop, Mr. Rose heard a shot and ran to the automobile where he found Mr. Kleska, who has shot through the heart. The shotgun was found near the car, Judge Anderson said. Mr. Kleska’s pipe was found near the body—apparently he was smoking the pipe at the time of his death. Mr. Kleska retired from public office about two years ago.
