William R. “Bill” Karkoska, Jr.
June 23, 1954 - Dec. 25, 2006
William R. “Bill” Karkoska, Jr., 52, of Bay
City died Christmas Day, December 25, 2006 following a sudden illness.
He was born June 23, 1954 in Bay City, Texas to the late Bill and Anna
Zbranek Karkoska. Bill was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County; a
member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City; and worked
construction as a welder in the Freeport and Old Ocean area.
Survivors include: his sister and her husband, Barbara and Oscar Bunge
of Wharton; his very dear friend and confidant, Beverly Stroeman;
nephew, Alan Todd Slaughter and great nephew, Brandon Slaughter both of
San Antonio.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm Thursday, December 28, 2006 at
Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Mass will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 29,
2006 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerry Cernoch
officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van
Vleck.
His family from Austin and friends from Bay City will serve as
pallbearers.

Lula Mae Keith, 91, of Bay City, passed
from this life to her heavenly home on October 10, 2002 at Bay Villa
Nursing Home in Bay City. She was born March 20, 1911 in Louise, TX
to the late Oscar Dean and Ora Young Keith.
Mrs. Keith was a resident of Bay City the past five years, a former
longtime resident of Sargent, and a member of the Brazoria Assembly
of God Church.
Survivors include: five daughters and sons-in-law, Jessie and Joe
Crosson of Fort Worth, Jean and Glenn Montgomery of Fairfield, Neta
and Norman Frankum of Sweeny, Wanda and Bobby Frankum of Brazoria,
and Dorothy and Gary Irwin of Sutherland Springs; one son and two
daughters in law, Bobby and Sandra Keith of Sweeny, and Winnie Keith
of Old Ocean; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and four
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Keith; infant
daughter, Edna; son, Elmer “Sonny” Keith; and four brothers.
The family will have a celebration of life service Sunday, October
13, 2002, at the Brazoria Assembly of God Church with the Reverands
Dale Frankum and Gary Irwin officiating. Interment will follow
Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck. Her grandsons will be
pallbearers.
The family received friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at
Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Carol Elizabeth Kelly
January 18, 1949 - January 18, 2019
Carol
Elizabeth Sherrer Kelly, 70, of Bay City passed away January 18, 2019.
She was born January 18, 1949 in Houston, TX to Kenneth Lee Sherrer and
Patricia Ann Wegner Sherrer.
Carol was
preceded in death by her father (Kenneth), her husband of 40 years Joe
Kelly, Bobby Tucker (“the son she never had”) and their beloved dog,
Ranger.
She is
survived by her mother Patsy Sherrer Anderson; daughters Alisha Kelly
and Allison Kelly Lawhon; sisters Terry Andresen (Steve) and Nancy
Bullock (Mickey); brother Alan Sherrer (Lynn); grandchildren Sydney and
Brody Lawhon and Karley Kelly. Debbie Bingham; mother-in-law Raye Kelly;
sister-in-law Peggy Roome; as well as an extensive number of other
relatives and close friends.
Carol was a
loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. Those who loved her
knew she enjoyed shopping, reading, and spending time with friends and
family and Starbucks. Beyond all of this, the things that brought her
the most joy were those moments spent with children and grandchildren.
She loved cheering them on at their games and activities, as well as
cuddling up to watch their favorite shows. She was fiercely loyal to her
friends and loved ones. A true matriarch, she loved, counseled and
protected those who were dearest to her. Though she was modest to a
fault, amongst Carol’s numerous life accomplishments was her notoriety
for the best fried chicken in town. Her door was always open for those
who loved her and her generous spirit was inspiration to all who knew
her.
Funeral
service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Taylor Bros.
Funeral Home with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Interment will
follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Jason
Gilmer, Scott Lawhon, Paul Roome, Christopher Sneath, Joel Wamget and
Austin Roome. Honorary pallbearers Brody Lawhon, Woody Kellogg.
The family

for Carol during her final days.

Donald Ray Kelly, Sr.
(August 1, 1935 - March 8, 2015)
Donald
Ray Kelly, Sr., 79, was born August 1, 1935 in Palacios, TX to the late
Lawrence and Ella Cosby Kelly. He attended and graduated from Palacios
High School. Shortly thereafter, he was employed by Alcoa Aluminum where
he became a Lab Analyst. Around this same time he met and married Pearl
Mary Wagner, his beloved wife of nearly 60 years. They would never leave
Palacios, and he would later retire from Alcoa Aluminum after 39 years.
He
became a longtime member of the Church of Christ, A devout Christian
with an unrelenting faith and belief in God’s Providence, and his
personal savior Jesus Christ. Donald was a kind honest man with an
incredible quick wit who never shirked a task, always placing his
family’s needs above his own. He loved ranching and working on and
driving his antique cars, but most of all he simply enjoyed being with
his family. But on March 8, 2015, the Lord softly called him home. If
the love a family feels for one, is the true measure of ones wealth,
then our father was extremely blessed. He will be deeply missed by his
wife, children and grandchildren.
Donald
is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Patricia Kelly; half
sister Mary Richards and half brother Robert McCrory. He is survived by
his wife Pearl Wagner Kelly; daughters Stephanie Winfield (Charles) of
San Marcos, TX and Beverly Vacek of Palacios, TX; sons Donald Kelly, Jr.
of Palacios TX and Harold Wagner Kelly of Austin TX; sister Betty Burch;
brothers Lawrence Kelly, Jr. of Victoria, TX and Roy Kelly of Palacios,
TX; grandchildren Justin Kelly (Andrea), Jessica Vacek, Dylan Kelly,
Lucas Kelly, Kaitlyn Vacek, Amy Vacek, Colton Kelly and Christian Kelly;
great grandchildren Laila Kelly, Roman Kelly, Abram Kelly, Belen Kelly
and John Paul Kelly.
The
family will receive visitors Wednesday, March 11 at the funeral home
from 5-7pm. Services will be held at Palacios Funeral Home on Thursday,
March 12 at 10:00am with Bro. Shan Jackson and Rev. Sonny Balch
officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, TX.
Pallbearers are Justin Kelly, Lucas Kelly, Jamie Garcia, Rene Galvan,
Kenny Maynard and Stephen Frangullie.

Joe Kelly, 67, of Bay City, TX, passed away July 13,
2014.
He was born August 9, 1946 in Bay City, TX, to George Bud
Kelly and Raye Tillmon Kelly. He and his father co-owned Kelly’s Car
Care in Bay City for many years.
He loved to fish and cook, especially bar-b-que, but most
of all , he loved spending time with his three grandchildren. His
favorite pastime was cheering on those girls at the softball fields.
His father preceded him in death.
Survivors include his mother, Raye Kelly of Bay City;
wife, Carol Kelly of Bay City; daughters, Allison Lawhon and Alisha
Kelly, both of Bay City; sister, Peggy Roone and husband Bill of Bay
City; grandchildren, Karley Kelly, Sydney Lawhon and Brody Lawhon;
nephew, Paul Roome and wife Bridget; niece, Patricia Bell and husband
Doug; uncle and aunt, Jay and June Tillmon; close cousins, Kelley Ann
Young, Nell McKinney, John Jennings, Gloria Ziegenhals and Bill Kelly;
as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 12
noon until 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Taylor Bros. Funeral
Home in Bay City.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July
16, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Van Vleck, with the Rev. Bob
Hobbins and the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Mary Beth
Mask Kemp went home to her heavenly Father on Sunday, April 27, 2014.
She was
born October 28, 1928, in the home of grandparents, Henry E. and Mary
Becker of Anderson, Grimes County, Texas, to parents, Ella Becker West
and Hugh Othel West. Raised by her grandparents, Henry and Mary, she
graduated from Navasota High School in Navasota, Texas. She moved from
Bishop, Texas to Bay City, Texas in July of 1961. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church, where she taught 4th and 5th grade Sunday
School and Girl’s Auxiliary. She was also a member of Adult l Sunday
School Gleaners Class. She married Albert Kemp in 1999.
She was
preceded in death by her husband, Albert Kemp; grandparents; parents;
half-sister, Ruth Maddox; half-sister, Cloye West Catchings; and
half-brother, Hugh West.
She is
survived by her daughter, Celia Beth Shaver of Arlington, Texas; son,
Kevin Kyle Mask (Beatrice) of Southlake, Texas; grandchildren,
Christopher Scott Jenkins (Kelly) of Keller, Texas, Corey Adam Shaver (Moska)
of Humble, Texas, Megan Haley Mask of Dallas, Texas and Kody Kyle Mask
of Southlake, Texas; cousins, Judy Roskosky (John) of Angleton, Texas
and Jeannine Sims (Cecil) of Portland, Oregon; niece, Kay Keeling (Ken)
of Huntsville, Texas; step-children, Kristie Kemp Marchant (Paul), Craig
Kemp (Claudia), David Kemp (Lou) and Annette Kemp; and her caregiver and
friend, Carol Lynn Guynes.
Funeral
services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Taylor Bros.

Hattie Mae Kinchloe, 87, of Bay City formerly of Danevang passed away on
January 20, 2015, She was born on April 15, 1927 in Weimar, Texas to the
late Pete and Emmie Varnell and was a homemaker.
Survivors
include her daughter Kathy Kinchloe of El Campo, son Karl Kinchloe Jr.
and wife Martha of Bay City, 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Hattie was
preceded in death by her parents, husband Karl Kinchloe Sr., and
daughter Karlyn Bates.

Mr. William King, age 51 years 8 months 29 days, passed away at the
family residence in Blessing, Texas, Wednesday night. He has been
engaged in the drug business for 10 years, in Blessing.
Mr. King is survived by his wife, Mrs. William King of Blessing, Texas,
two daughters, Mrs. M. C. Bess, Corpus Christi, Texas and Mrs. M. H.
Meadows of Vanderbilt, Texas; two sons, William George and Henry David
King of Blessing, Texas. Mr. King’s other relatives live in England.
Funeral services will be Friday morning from the family residence in
Blessing with Bishop Quinn of Houston, Texas, officiating. Burial will

Eleanor Josephine Bures Knebel
February 14, 1919 - September 21, 2014
Eleanor Josephine Bures Knebel, 95, passed away quietly September 21,
2014, at the Matagorda Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1919, in Midfield, TX, to
the late Joseph B. Bures and Theresa Brhlik Bures Krenek. After
graduating from Blessing High School, she married George F. Knebel, on
August 30, 1938, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing, TX. They
were married for 51 years until his death, in January, 1990.
Eleanor was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a charter member of
the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the K.J.Z.T., AARP, American
Legion Post 649 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Phillip H. Parker VFW Post
2438 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Holy Cross Altar Society,
and along with Lillian Milberger, organized the First Annual Turkey
Dinner. Eleanor was a certified dental assistant and worked with Robert
B. Kelly, DDS for 34 years, until her retirement in 1991.
Throughout her life, Eleanor enjoyed sewing, hand stitching, dancing,
cooking and baking. She loved playing dominos, black jack, and traveling
with her family and friends. She always took great pride in her
appearance. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her
pride and joy.
Besides her parents; and husband; she was preceded in death by her
sister, Elsie Kana.
Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Hicks and husband Travis of Bay
City; son, George Knebel Jr. and wife Irene of Hallettsville, TX;
grandchildren, Kristi Knebel Wolchansky and husband David, Kent Hicks
and wife Becky, and Kimberly Hicks; and great-grandchildren, Taylor
Allen, Samantha Hicks and Mason Hicks. She is also survived by
sisters-in-law, Dorothy Knebel Jenkins and Carmen Russo Knebel;
brother-in-law, Billie Jenkins; and numerous cousins, nieces and
nephews.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at
Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, TX.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014,
at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Greg Korenek officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck, TX.

Mr. Knebel was born Aug. 23,
1915, in Weimar to Frank E. and Emelie Ripper Knebel and died Jan. 19,
1990, in Matagorda General Hospital.
A member of Holy Cross
Catholic Church, he was a Bay City resident since 1934. He owned and
operated Knebel Refrigeration Service in Bay City and was a third degree
member of Knights of Columbus Council 3070, fourth degree member of St.
Mary Star of the Sea General Assembly Council, member of Blessing
American Legion Post 649, VFW Post 2438 in Bay City and WWII veteran.
Survivors include his wife,
Eleanor Bures Knebel of Bay City; mother-in-law, Theresa Bures Krenek of
Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and W. Travis Hicks of Bay
City; son and daughter-in-law, George and Irene Knebel Jr. of Bay City;
sister, Dorothy Knebel Jenkins of Palacios; brother, Eddie J. Knebel of
Houston; three grandchildren, Kristi Jo Knebel, Williams Kent Hicks and
Kimberly Claire Hicks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for David Allen Kocurek, 64, of Palacios were held
last Wed. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with burial following at
the Palacios Cemetery. David was born January 20, 1950 in Palacios
to Dorothy Shimek Kocurek and the late Paul Kocurek and he passed
away on September 6, 2014.
He is survived by his mother; wife, Rita Kocurek of Palacios;
daughters Jasmina Kocurek and Jelisa Kocurek, both of Palacios; son,
Nathan (Marie) Kocurek of McKinney; grandchildren, Aaron Kocurek,
Brian Kocurek and Mei Kocurek;
sisters, Debbie Barnett of Palacios, Margaret Pena of Castroville,
Mellisa Brown of Sweeny, and Angie Castanon of Palacios; and
brothers, Jerry Kocurek of Danbury, Tom Kocurek of Palacios, Andy

He was preceded in death by his father.

Donald Lee Kopecky
Funeral services for Donald Lee Kopecky, 57, of Flynn and formerly
of Palacios were held Jan. 17 at the Flynn Assembly of God with Bro.
Rick Smith officiating.
Donald was born in Baytown on June 7, 1957 to his parents Elo J.
Kopecky Sr. and Janie (Nesrsta) Kopecky and was called home to the
Lord Wednesday, January 14.
Donald was called to the ministry in his late teens. He was a
Pastor, teaching about the Bible, and serving the Lord thru song.
Donald was the Chief of the Palacios Fire Department and was active
with them for many years. His hands were very gifted he could fix
anything, which made him a jack of all trades. This helped him find
a career that was dear to his heart, Texas Baptist Encampment, where
he would fix anything that needed fixing as the Maintenance
Supervisor. He also helped with the children programs and even
filled in in the kitchen.
Donald enjoyed fishing in Palacios on his time off, which lead to
his other passion cooking. He loved to cook big family meals and you
never left hungry.
He is survived by his brothers; Elo J. Kopecky Jr., Lonnie W.
Kopecky and wife Betty, and James W. Kopecky and wife Donna; his
sisters; Joyce Aldridge and husband Jim, and Doris McNeese; and many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; Elo and Janie Kopecky;
and a nephew Timothy McNeese.
Donald will be cremated and his remains will be buried at the family
plots at a later date.
Services were entrusted to Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Friday, January 16, 2015, at St.
Peter’s Catholic Church in
Blessing, Texas, with the Rev.
Peter Yeboah-Amanfo officiating.
Interment followed at St.
Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Orsak,
Robert Galvan, Woody Lowrance,
Robert Krenek Jr., Steven Hermes
and Bubba Briscoe.
David Krenek served as honorary
pallbearers.

Charles Peter Krobot
Funeral services for Charles Peter Krobot, 70, of Bay City, will be
held at 2 pm Wednesday to First Presbyterian Church with the Rev.
Frank Seaman officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park
in Van Vleck.
Mr. Krobot was born Jan. 28, 1915, in Texarkana, and died at 3:10 pm
July 29, 1985, at his residence.
A resident of Bay City for 46 years, he was retired from Dow
Chemical Co. after 29 years of service as an engineer technician.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Laura Pesek Krobot of Bay City; a
son and daughter-in-law, Franklin G. and Virginia Krobot of
Hallettsville; two sisters, Bessie Dolezal of Edna and Liddie
Flesner of Rosenberg; three brothers, Jim and Louis Krobot, both of
Needville, and Joe Krobot of Boling; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Hulen, March 24,
1971, and by a grandson, Harry Hulen III.

William Frank Krobot
(October 14, 1930 - June 17, 2014)
William Frank Krobot, 83, peacefully went to his reward on Tuesday,
June 17, 2014. Born October 14, 1930 to Frank and Josephine Krobot
in Needville, Texas. William, known to everyone as “Bill”, attended
Van Vleck Schools, graduating in 1948. Bill was active in Sports and
was a Star Athlete. After graduation, Bill worked for Rugeley Motor
Company in Bay City then joined the United States Air Force in 1952,
serving as an Aircraft Technician. On February 7, 1953, Bill married
his sweetheart, Elsie Ella Hartfield and their union was blessed
with 61 wonderful years of marriage. In 1956, Bill returned to Van
Vleck, Tx after his service to our country and began a long career
in the Automotive Parts Industry. Bill worked for Dependable Motor
Parts (NAPA) for many years, finally retiring in 1998. Bill was a
member of the First United Methodist Church in Van Vleck and was
previously active in the Van Vleck Volunteer Fire Department for
several years and served as Fire Chief. Throughout his life, Bill
was also extremely successful in farming and ranching and thoroughly
enjoyed supporting the local 4H and FFA programs. Bill had a passion
for gardening and took pleasure in sharing his vegetables with
family and friends. Later in his life, Bill was a member of the Bay
City American Legion Post 11. Bill and Elsie were blessed with four
sons, Kenneth, twins, Ronald and Donald and Stephen. Bill and Elsie
retired to his family home place and built a beautiful home that he
always dreamed about with his personal fishing spot out his back
door. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Josephine,
brothers Irvin and John F. and his son Donald. Bill was a devoted
husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who thoroughly
enjoyed reminiscing with family and friends about his awesome life
experiences. Bill affectionately was known as Pops to his family and
loved to joke around while visiting with friends. Bill enjoyed
hunting and fishing and usually had numerous stories to tell
everyone about his experiences. Bill is survived by his wife, Elsie,
son, Kenneth and wife Rebecca from San Antonio, Tx; Ronald and wife
Cristina from Belton, Tx; and Stephen and wife Terri from
Shrewsbury, PA. Also, two sisters Louise Viviyal from Guy, Tx and
Dorothy Beard from Bay City, Tx. Eight Grandchildren, Lisa Novak
from San Antonio Tx, William Keith Krobot from Marble Falls Tx,
Ashley Krobot from San Marcos Tx, Justin Krobot from San Antonio Tx,
Jessica Krobot from Belton Tx and Kaileigh, Kristin and Paige Krobot
from Shrewsbury, PA. Also, one great grandchild, Willam Bode Krobot
from Marble Falls, TX and numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong
friends. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5PM
until 7PM Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00
PM Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with Rev.
Kenny Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial
Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Robert Roe, Jason Roe, Ross
Roe, Kyle Krobot, Mark Krobot, Marvin Hartfield, Gary Farris, and
Mike Wade. Honorary pallbearers will be Shannon Champion, Mark Mach,
Ken Leck, Ronnie Bose, Levi Callis, Bill Lacy, Paul Roe, John Edd
Storts andGary Mathews. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in
