HOUSTON - Brian
Jackson, 32, of Houston, formerly Palacios, passed away May 21,
2011. He was born Nov. 28, 1978 in Houston to Shan Jackson and
Cynthia Tanner Quinn. Brian was a core analyst for Corelab
Industries and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Brian is survived by his wife, Julie Jackson of Houston; daughter,
Madeline Jackson of Houston; father, Shan Jackson and wife, Linda,
of Palacios; mother, Cynthia Quinn and husband, David, of Port
Lavaca; grandmother, Maurine Jackson of Port Lavaca; sister, Casey
Malone and husband, Ben, of Blessing; brother, Bo Jackson of Port
Lavaca; and nephews, Jacob and Caleb Malone of Blessing.
Brian was preceded in death by his brother, Andy Jackson; and his
grandparents, Woodie Jackson and Travis and Ethel Tanner.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May
25, 2011, at the Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at
the Port Lavaca Church of Christ, with Mr. Wayne DeDear officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

MARKHAM - Doris "Dot" E. Shumaker Jackson was born January 4, 1922
in Oklahoma City, OK to the late James F. Huskey and Mary Ethel
Easley Huskey. Dot departed this world April 2, 2011. She was a
loving wife and mother, a devoted Christian and a member of First
Baptist Church in Markham.
Survivors include husband Claude Monard Jackson; children Samuel Ray
Jackson of Richmond, Timothy E. Jackson (Terry) of Markham, Denise
Jackson Peters of Needville, Terry Lou (Robert) Shumaker Mikeska of
Virginia Beach, VA, Cherri Shumaker Myska of Rosenberg, David E.
(Helen) Shumaker of College Station, M. Jay Shumaker of Rosenberg
and Kent Allen (Terry) Shumaker of Montgomery, TX; sister Kathryn
(Si) Grider of Arthur City, TX; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen
great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Preceded in death by her first husband Captain David M. Shumaker,
sister Velora Deason and brother Eugene Huskey.
Funeral service will be 2 PM Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the First
Baptist Church in Markham. Graveside services will be 2:30 PM
Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San

Van Vleck, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003.
She was born Oct. 23, 1945, in McEwen, Tenn., to the late Hubert
Alvie and Jesse Alvera Fuqua Wallace.
Survivors: husband, Bill Jahnsen; daughters, Nicole Cothron of
West Columbia, Margery Kullo of Houston and Renea Jahnsen of
Corpus Christi; sons, David Stacy Breaux of Baltimore, Md.,
William Jahnsen of Norfolk, Va. and Jason Jahnsen of St. Ives,

| Otto H. Janssen Jr., 84,
of Bay City died peacefully at home after almost a year
of failing health on Tuesday, December 20, 2011. He was
born March 23,1927 in Bonus, Wharton County Texas to the
late Otto H. Janssen Sr. & Paula Krueger Janssen. Otto
was a long time resident of Matagorda County, and owned
& operated many businesses in the years he had lived.
He is survived by his
wife: Gail Crocker Janssen; son: Otto H. (Rocky) Janssen

Carlos Jaramillo, 40, of Bay City, died March 29, 2001 at Gulf Coast
Medical Center in Wharton. He was born on December 4, 1960 in Alice,
Texas to Oscar and Lorrine Garcia Jaramillo, Sr. Carlos was a member
of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, a lifelong resident of Bay
City and a machine operator for Jim's Manufacturing in Wharton.
Survivors include: wife, Janie Garza Jaramillo of Bay City; parents,
Oscar and Lorrine Jaramillo, Sr. of Bay City; daughters, Melissa Ann
and Sara Beth Jaramillo of Bay City; a son, Carlos Jaramillo, Jr. of
Bay City; sisters, Sylvia Jaramillo of Angleton and Virginia Cruz of
El Campo; brothers, Oscar Jr., Hector, Joe, Noe, and David Jaramillo

VICTORIA -
Mildred Cunningham Jarvis, 85, went home to be with her Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 after a short illness.
She is survived by her sister, Janice Harvey; sons, Robert and
Charles; daughter, Robin Mokry; grandchildren, Michelle Mokry
Bakewell and Matthew Mokry; and great-granddaughter, Liesel Mokry.
Mildred grew up in Palacios, where she loved dancing with the
soldiers at the USO. She then joined the Corps of Nurses at the end
of WWII. While she was working as a registered nurse at a hospital
in Wharton, she was introduced to William Jarvis, a pastoral student
working as a teacher in Kingsville, who was not given to dancing.
They soon married and served the Lord together at Presbyterian Pan
American School in Kingsville and several church communities in
northeast and south Texas. After pastoring the First Presbyterian
Churches in Falfurrias and Premont for 15 years, her husband retired
from the ministry, and they moved to Victoria, where Mildred
continued to work at Devereux Foundation until her retirement. She
was a volunteer at Citizens Hospital in Victoria until she moved to
Memphis for a time with her daughter and participated in the
marriages of her grandchildren and the birth of her great
granddaughter. Recently she and her son, Charles, moved back to
Austin.
Mildred loved her God, family, nursing career and music. She loved
working at the church as an officer and with the women of the church
and participating in the church voice and bell choirs. She will be
greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 9, 2011 from 6 to 8
p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 10 a.m.
at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The memorial service will follow at 11
a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dan Fultz officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church Memorial
Fund.

LaVerne Jennings-Byars, 93, passed away April 1, 2011 at her home in
New Caney, Tx. with her family by her side following a stroke
She was born April 11, 1917, in Pearl, Tx. to Johnny Dumas and wife
Zelma Fowler-Dumas.
Mrs. Byars spent much of her time outdoors with her plants and
flowers.Her interests included family, pets, gardening, sewing and
reading.
She is survived by a brother, Johnny Dumas and wife Virginia,
sister-in-law Margaret Dumas; sons Willard Jennings and wife Tina,
and Chuck Jennings; daughters Peggy Barker and husband Bobby, and
Karen Walleck; son-in-law John Jones; several nieces, nephews, many
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren;
and also by many friends including Millie Hartman of Palacios.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Ed Dumas and Dalton Dumas;
sister Cleda Lewis; and daughter Sherry Jones.

Flora Bell (FLO) Jesse, 74, a resident of Bay City, passed away at
Baptist Memorial August 11. Survivors include: 4 sisters, Mrs.
Hattie Taylor and Mrs. Clota McDoniel of San Saba,Texas, Mrs. Mattie
Edwards of San Antonio and Mrs. Irene Moore of Dickinson; 2 nieces
and 7 nephews. Mrs. Jesse was a retired registered nurse, a member
of the First Pentecostal Church, and had lived in Bay City for 24
years. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 13, at the First
Pentecostal Church in Bay City with Rev. M. L. Cole and Rev. H. D.
Fleetwood officiating. Interment was at Cedarvale cemetery .
Pallbearers were: B. C. McDoniel, James Owen, Bob Owen, Gene Owen,
Leland Yarbrough, and Wade Ashcraft. Honorary pallbearers were: Roy

Nellie Jane Johnson, 75, of Bay City died June 26, 2002 at Matagorda
General Hospital in Bay City. She was born February 25, 1927 in
Crockett, TX to the late Julius and Mattie Rhoden Ratcliff. Mrs
Johnson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints and a resident of Bay City for the past 25 years.
Survivors include: two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Atkinson of
Conroe and Judy and Mike Burrow of Portland, TX; son and
daughter-in-law, Larry and Diane McCarty of Bay City; seven
grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Johnson; sisters,
Pauline Riley, Pearl Haufecker and Nettie Ratcliff; and brothers,
Lester and Willie Ratcliff.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002 at Taylor
Bros. Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Joe Cannon. Interment followed
at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Johnson died June 27, 1982 at Matagorda General Hospital.

James Johnson “Jimmy” Jones
Sept. 13, 1960 – Oct. 20, 2011
James Johnson “Jimmy” Jones was born,
Tuesday, September 13, 1960 in Bay City, Texas and died Thursday,
October 20, 2011, at his home in Angleton with his family by his
side, at the age of 51 years, 1 month and 7 days.
Jimmy married Shirley Yates on August
29, 1980 at the First Baptist Church in Van Vleck, Texas.
He was a member of Life Foursquare
Church in Angleton where he volunteered in kitchen ministry. He was
a hunter and an avid fisherman. He enjoyed those outdoor activities
with his best friends, Robin Stanley, Steve Schultz and Steve Sartin.
He was a baseball coach with the Lake Jackson Little League program.
Jimmy worked for BASF for 23 years, where he won many awards and
served on various committees.
The family would like to thank BASF for
the blood and platelets donations.
Jimmy had requested that his memorial
service be a fun, uplifting, celebration of his life. He asked that
no black be worn.
Jimmy is preceded in death by: his
grandparents, Alfred and Norene Nelson, who had lived in Bay City,
Texas and Roy and Lilly Lee Jones, who had lived in Barksdale,
Texas.
He is survived by: his wife, Shirley
Jones of Angleton, Texas; son, Chase Jones and his fiancé Frances
and their daughter, Lilly of Lake Jackson, Texas; daughter, Whitney
Jones of Angleton, Texas; father, Donald Jones of Van Vleck, Texas;
mother; Nickey Jones of Van Vleck, Texas; sisters, Kay Lynn Brewer
of Longview, Texas, Joni Maley of Conroe, Texas, Cathy Fry of Van
Vleck, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life
service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Life
Foursquare Church in Angleton, Texas with Cere Muscarella
officiating.

- Opal Jean Jones, 89, passed away peacefully on
Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011. She was born Aug. 9, 1922 to
Joseph & Mollie Sims in Austin, AK. Opal worked for 25
years for Franklin Electric in Jacksonville, AR. After
the death of her husband Willie "Bill" Jones in 1983 she
moved to Bay City to be near her children. Opal loved
her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She
also loved to garden & spend time with her flowers.
He is survived by his daughter, Dee Stone & husband Don
of Bay City; sons: Johnny Jones & wife, Vickie of Bay
City and Terry Jones of Beaumont; grandchildren: Tami
Stone Bolton & husband, Les, Chance Stone & wife ,Erin,
Donna Herring & husband, Rick & Tess Jones; great
grandchildren Katelyn Stone, Stone Bolton, Marin Bolton,
Sarah Herring & Michael Herring, a number of nieces and
nephews and her caregiver Linda Harris.

Lago Vista, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. She was born Aug. 5,
1957, in Leesville, La., to the late John Edward Fancher and Geneva
Darlene Eddleman Fancher.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin Lee Hill of Palacios; son,
John Fancher of Houston; and sister, Johnie Strother of Cameron, La.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at
Travis Oaks Baptist Church in Lago Vista.

Alvina Saenz Juarez
Funeral services for Alvina Saenz Juarez, 38, of Van Vleck were
held 2 pm Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with
the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. A rosary was held 7 pm
Sunday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial
followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Mrs. Juarez was born Oct. 26, 1953 to Ruben and Janie Cadriel
Saenz in El Campo and died Dec. 6, 1991 at her residence.
She was affiliated with the Catholic church and was a lifelong
resident of Van Vleck.
Survivors include her husband, Fernando Juarez of Van Vleck; her
mother and stepfather, Janie Saenz and Epolita of Van Vleck;
three daughters, Felicia Priscilla and Maria Juarez, all of Van
Vleck; a son, Ruben Lee Juarez, of Van Vleck; a stepsister Mary
Henderson of Wharton; three stepbrothers, Raymond, Ruben, and
Paul Vela , all of Wharton.
She was preceded in death by her father Ruben Saenz, who died in
May 1978.
Pallbearers were Ernest Cadriel, Wally Escabar, Ricky Longoria,
Joe Morales, Felix Nunes and Ramon Uela. Honorary pallbearers
were Caesar Morales, Jr. and Paul Vela Jr.
Arrangements were made with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Jesus Juarez, 52, of Needville, Texas, will be
Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Green's Mortuary, 2702 Ave. C
in Bay City with Rev. David Allen and Jesse Quintania officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, from noon until 9 p.m.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Green's Mortuary.
Jesus Juarez was born to the union of Jose Juarez, Sr. and Angelita
Gutierrez Juarez on Nov. 15, 1948 in Bay City.
He passed away on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Polly Ryan Memorial Hospital
in Richmond.
He is survived by two sons: Pete Ray Juarez and Rolando Juarez of
Houston; one grand-daughter, Candance Juarez, of El Campo; a close
friend, Eva Lara of Needville; five brothers, Edward Juarez of Bay
City, TX., Brijido Juarez of Wadsworth, Jose "Pepe" Juarez, Sr.,
Fernando "Duke" Juarez and Benito Juarez of Tampa, Fla.; three
sisters, Rosie J. Quintania of Bay City, Olivia J. Cervantes of Van
Vleck, and Guadalupe J. Ortiz of Hereford, Texas.
He is preceded in death by both parents; Jose and Angeleita
Gutierrez Juarez, Sr.; two brothers, Felix G. Juarez and Gregoria G.
Juarez; and one sister, Eugenia G. Villareal.
Funeral arrangements are with Green's Mortuary in Bay City.
