Fatal crash A 60-year-old Bay City man died on Sunday evening after crashing his vehicle into a concrete barrier on U.S. 183 in Goliad County, about 6 ½ miles south of the city of Goliad. At about 7:45 p.m., Benny Lee Jack was southbound on U.S. 183 in a Ford Expedition when he did not stop at a mobile stop light that controls a one-way section in a construction zone and struck a concrete barrier, said Sgt. Ruben San Miguel, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. The impact of the collision redirected the driver’s vehicle across the one-way portion of the road and into a ditch, where it flipped and he was ejected, San Miguel said. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and the vehicle landed on top of him, San Miguel said. No other people were in the vehicle or involved in the crash. A justice of the peace pronounced Jack dead at about 8:30 p.m., San Miguel said. The Goliad County Sheriff’s Office and Goliad Volunteer Fire Department assisted DPS at the scene of the wreck. DPS’s investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, San Miguel said.

The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City, Texas, with Bishop David Fellhauer, celebrant. Interment will follow at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School during his elementary grades. He desired to become a priest beginning in the fifth grade. His pastor, Father Theo Janysek was his inspiration and gave him much encouragement. In 1948, his ninth grade year, he entered St. John’s Minor Seminary in San Antonio. In the fall of 1953 he decided to pursue and was accepted by the Benedictine Order in Corpus Christi. He entered the Subiaco Abbey in Arkansas where he began his formation for the Benedictine Order. He made his first profession of religious vows and took the name of Casimir. During the occasional volleyball game, at the Abbey, the monks would call him "Casey". This name would be his for the remainder of his life. On May 26th, 1960 he was ordained to the priesthood at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas by Bishop Mariano Garriga. From 1961–1969 He was involved in education either as a teacher or a student. He was sent to the University of Dayton in Ohio to attend a government sponsored Spanish Language course taught by professors from Spain, Argentina, Chili, Columbia and other countries. This was, in Monsignor Casey’s own words, "very interesting to say the least". He left the Benedictine Order in 1970. He went to the Diocese of Pueblo in Colorado. He served two parishes, along with serving in the campus ministry at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. In 1974, Father Theo Janysek, who was Father Casey’s true source of inspiration and encouragement, strongly urged him to return to the Diocese of San Antonio. He met with Archbishop Furey in San Antonio and was accepted as a priest in the San Antonio Diocese. He was assigned as Associate Pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Victoria, Texas. He also worked with the youth and served in campus ministry at Victoria College and the University of Houston Victoria Campus. In 1976 he was incardinated in the Archdiocese of San Antonio as a diocesan priest. He became involved with World Wide Marriage Encounter in 1979. He presented many Marriage Encounter weekends in Victoria and many different cities throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Georgia. He continued his involvement until last year, when he became ill. He loved every aspect of his work with Marriage Encounter, he loved the couples he served, his brotherhood of Marriage Encounter priests and the many friends that worked side by side with him. Other parishes that he served at were, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Yorktown and its two mission churches San Luis in Yorktown and St. Ann’s in Nordheim, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios, Texas. In 1998 he was assigned to Holy Cross Parish in Bay City, Texas. Where he served as Pastor until his retirement in 2012 and he remained there until his death. Monsignor Casey was a member of the Bay City Knights of Columbus, Council 3070, he attained a Fourth Degree with the El Campo Assembly 1231. He was very involved in the A.C.T.S. movement and Life Teen at Holy Cross parish. He was instrumental in beginning Perpetual Adoration at Holy Cross as a shared worship with Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. His love for Holy Cross Catholic School, the students and teachers brought such joy to his heart. He will be remembered for his quick wit, phenomenal sense of humor, captivating smile, a welcoming confessor, and loving soul. He is survived by a plethora of friends who loved him dearly. We now celebrate the beauty and blessing of his life that we were fortunate to share. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Education of Seminarians of the Diocese of Victoria.

T. Dudley Johnson, age 76, passed away at home on May 5th, 2020. Born in Kenedy, TX on June 5, 1943 to Wayne and Evelyn Johnson, he was raised as a cowboy in Banquete, TX. Rodeo injuries changed his career trajectory toward the new frontier of oil and gas. After working for several years at the Amoco refinery, Dudley joined South Texas Pipeline in 1976. As project manager he commissioned pipelines from Houston to Corpus Christi and later spearheaded a project in Brazil, in the process garnering great respect and acclaim in his field. Later in life he found further satisfaction in his work as a catastrophe insurance adjustor. Even in retirement Dudley refused to stay idle, working part time as a courier and authoring two books, “Collection of Texas Stories” and “The Legendary Joe Green and Charley.”
Dudley was a man of faith and family. He married the love of his life, Maggie, in 1975 and they lived happily together for 45 years. He loved sharing experiences with his son, Scot, and the three of them had many adventures together: travelling, treasure hunting, and exploring the outdoors. He would patiently bait Maggie’s fishing hook or tirelessly tow Scot on water skis while loving every moment of it. He was quick with a quip, a prolific reader, a student of Texas history, and a foodie before there was such a term. He was an elder in his church and served God’s will in all that he did. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Dudley is survived by his wife, Maggie, son, Scot, daughter-in-law, Rachel, brothers Donal Wayne and wife Judy, Lester and wife Barbara, Sterling and wife Sheryl, and a myriad of family and friends. There will be a private service in Bay City, TX. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers the family requests a memorial donation to Kirkwood South Christian Church or All Texas Dachshund Rescue.

Johnny Wayne Jones, 70, of Bay City, Texas, left the home of his body and entered the home of his Lord on the 27th of May 2020. He was born November 12, 1949, to the late Willie Harvey Jones and Opal Jean Sims Jones in Searcy, Arkansas. Johnny possessed a deep love for his home state of Arkansas and was a devout Arkansas Razorback fan throughout his life. Johnny spent his early years in his beloved hometown of Austin, Arkansas, and attended school in the neighboring town of Cabot. Upon graduating high school, Johnny was drafted and proudly served his country in the United States Army as a finance clerk in Vietnam during the war. Once Johnny returned home, he continued his education at Arkansas State University where he met his wife, Vickie, and earned two bachelor’s degrees in Business Management and Real Estate Insurance. In 1976, he and Vickie moved to Texas and started their own sod farming business in Cedar Lane. Johnny enjoyed the simple things in life and in nature, quickly making the farm a place he loved to spend his days; especially with his daughter, Tess. Johnny was a dedicated employee of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company where he worked as an Ethylene Unit Operator for over 25 years. A surprise to his coworkers, Johnny was a vegetarian and an impressive gardener- he was always happiest when they cooked a pot of beans! It was uncommon to see Johnny without a smile on his face, always taking time for children, elderly adults and animals. Johnny put up a more than courageous fight with Alzheimer’s Disease for over 17 years. He continuously adapted to the many hardships and challenges, facing his disease with courage. We are comforted knowing that Johnny Jones knows who Johnny Jones is again. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Opal Jones; and brothers Billy and Joey Jones. He is survived by his wife, Vickie Jones; daughter, Tess Jones; sister, Dee Stone and husband Don; and brother Terry Jones. The family will receive friends and relatives for a celebration of his life from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Gum Springs Cemetery in Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Johnny’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
