Albina Annie Talafuse Jones
January 20, 1932 - May 31, 2023
Albina Annie Talafuse Jones was born January 20, 1932 to Robert
and Mary Annie Ruether Talafuse in Wharton, Texas. She passed
from this life on May 31, 2023 in Bay City, Texas at the age of
91. She spent her early years on rented farms near Blessing and
north of Bay City. When she was 13, the family moved to the
Bucks Bayou homestead to operate a dairy, farm and ranch. The
long, hard days working at the dairy, pastures and fields
toughened her as it did so many of that generation, until her
first and foremost goal was hard work. She never had much
interest in rest or vacation; hard work was the most important
aspect of her life. She passed that strong work ethic on to her
children and grandchildren. She always provided opportunity for
plenty of manual labor to anyone who was within arm’s reach, and
couldn’t get away or didn’t escape fast enough!
Albina graduated from Bay City High School in 1949 and married
Raymond Jones, Sr. on July 10, 1952. She followed him to Camp
Rucker, Alabama, where he was stationed in the U.S. Army, later
settling back in Bay City. Raymond and “Bena” started Jones Back
Hoe Service in 1964, and his brother Robert Jones worked with
them from 1965 until 1971. They employed sons Raymond Jones, Jr.
and Michael Charles Jones as back hoe operators as soon as they
graduated from high school. They all worked very hard together
and built a reputation that many admired, and few could
duplicate. Bena answered the business phone for most of those
years, and regular customers who called recognized her slow
drawl immediately. Rarely did a call go unanswered, as that
meant jobs lost or the farmers had to wait for work.
In 1980, the family interests branched out to ranching, and Bena
worked alongside Raymond in building the cattle business. She
never tired of feeding cows, checking pastures and water
supplies, helping build fences, keeping cow/calf records, and
all the work that goes with ranching.
Albina is preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond
Jones, Sr.; infant son Chester Paul Jones; sisters Rosie Janssen
and Mary Marshall; brothers Albert Ruether, Pete Talafuse,
Louise Talafuse, and infant brother Charlie Talafuse. She is
survived by sons Raymond Jones, Jr. and wife Sandy, and Michael
Charles Jones and wife Patsy; daughter Brenda Jones Srubar and
husband Kenneth; sister Paulina Poncik, and sister-in-law Jean
Talafuse. She was “MeeMee” to Sharron Jones Perez, Raymond Jones
III, David Srubar, Christie Jones McDonald, RaeDonna Srubar
Holstine, Michael Robert Jones and Aaron Srubar; 21 great
grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She loved all of
us.

Orene G. Schweinle Jordan of Van
Vleck, Texas was called to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the age of 103.
She was truly one of God's miracles and lived her entire life with
the unshakable belief that He was always by her side. She set a
lasting example of how one's life should be lived with courage,
humility, integrity, honesty, friendship, hard work and love of
family. Her inspired spirit could never be broken. Those of us who
knew and loved her are better for her memory.
Orene was born on December 4, 1905 to Emma Emelia Mueller and
William Louie Schweinle on a farm five miles north of Huffsmith,
Texas. She was a part of what has been called "the greatest
generation" and lived to see this country develop from a horse and
wagon technology to hero's walking on the face of the moon. She
believed that all things were possible through preparation, hard
work and faith in God. That belief sustained her for over 100 years.
Her memory never faded and details of her life remained as fresh in
her mind as if they happened yesterday. She wrote her life story in
longhand at age 97 and all who read it found it to be remarkable.
She set life's examples for the generations of her family who will
follow her.
Her special interests were many and she never attempted anything she
couldn't do. She was an outstanding seamstress and for years she
made most of her families clothes. She was self taught and developed
a strong understanding of accounting, ranching, construction, real
estate and politics. She started and became an accomplished artist
after her 80th birthday. She was a partner in business and ranching
with her husband, William G. Jordan, who pre-deceased her in 1991 at
age 92. More than anything else, she was an outstanding mother to
her two children, Shirley Jordan Flanagan and Don D. Jordan.
In addition to her parents, Orene was preceded in death by five of
her six brothers and sisters including Theodore G. Schweinle,
William E. Schweinle, Albert A. Schweinle, Andrew R. Schweinle and
Edna A. McKinnon and her son-in-law, William S. Flanagan.
She is survived by: her sister, Dana Scholl, her daughter, Shirley
A. Flanagan, son Don D. Jordan and wife, Barbara, grandchildren Mark
Flanagan and wife, Tracy, Mike Flanagan and wife, Beatrice, Monte
Flanagan, Leslie Hazlewood and husband, Gary, Lisa Cunningham and
husband, Chris and Laura McNear and husband, Steve. She has provided
memories to her great-grandchildren, Jeremy Flanagan, Michael
Flanagan, Tara Hazlewood, Taylor Hazlewood, Tyler Hazlewood, Carley
Cunningham, Kyle Cunningham, and Christopher Cunningham that will
sustain them throughout their lives.
The family recognizes with deep appreciation and gratitude the
outstanding care provided to Orene over the past few months by Tracy
Flanagan, Charita Preston, Iris Diaz, Laura Diaz and Sylvia Galindo.
Memorial services in celebration of Orene_s life will be held at 2
p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with the
Rev. Don Storey officiating. Interment will follow at
Roselawn Memorial Park
in Van Vleck. In lieu of flowers contribution may be made in her

Alice Albina Hejtmanek Jurek, age 92 years, 10
months, and 8 days, was called home on February 8, 2011. Born on
March 31, 1918 in Temple, she grew up on a farm in Matagorda County.
When she started school, she only spoke Czech. She quickly learned
English and moved to the head of her class. She graduated in 1937
from Blessing High School where she excelled in math, literature,
and broad jumping. She lived and worked in San Antonio during the
WWII war years and then in Houston before marrying Hubert Robert
Jurek, her husband of 55 years. It's interesting that Hubert's older
brother Henry had married Alice's sister Anna Mae Hejtmanek a few
years before Hubert and Alice got married.
Hubert and Alice moved to South Houston after the
war. Alice was a very hard worker and was known for her
attentiveness to detail, work ethic and natural abilities. An avid
gardener, Alice tended her two large gardens with care, which
produced vegetables year round. She loved flowers and her yard was
always painted with blooms of all colors. She usually took a bouquet
to decorate church and even had strangers stopping by asking for
cuttings. She was a wonderful cook and her daughters' boyfriends
often would show up unexpectedly just at meal time. Alice love music
and frequently sang as she worked, usually church hymns and
favorites from her youth. As a role model, Alice impressed upon her
daughters the importance of higher education and independence,
lessons that have turned out to be invaluable.
Alice and Hubert, founding members of Pasadena
Brethren Church, remained active in church activities until they
could no longer leave home. Alice was a very generous and
kindhearted person and always looked for the best in everyone. She
was a homemaker who was dedicated to her family and their welfare,
and she will be greatly missed. Alice was preceded in death by
Hubert Jurek, son-in-law John Bryson, parents Frank and Albina
Hejtmanek, brothers and sisters, Georgia Lostak, Anna Mae Jurek,
Frank Hejtmanek and George Hejtmanek. She is survived by daughters
Shirley Bryson, Karen Howery and husband Ken Howery, and Sandra
Jurek, grandchildren Kenny Howery and Christina Howery McLellan and
her husband John McLellan, great-granddaughter Emma McLellan, sister
Martha Schimek and husband Ottmar Schimek, Sr.

funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Pasadena Funeral
Chapel. A graveside service will be held at
