Funeral services for Harlan Hadden, 45, of Markham, who passed away June 5, 2012, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Markham.

DORIS JOANN CHRISTIANSEN HADDOCK

EL CAMPO - Doris Joann (Christiansen) Haddock was born January 7, 1919 in Danevang, Texas to Elizabeth D. Hansen and Mortorse "Martin" S. Christiansen. She went to be with her Heavenly Father May 7, 2012. Doris was 93 years of age, and the oldest of four children.
Doris married Rev. Arthur F. "Art" Haddock, January 17, 1939, and lived in El Campo, Texas. They had two children, Thomas "Tom" M. Haddock, and Nancy J. Haddock Meissner.
Doris was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church (former EUB), joining in 1942. She was Past Matron of The Order of the Eastern Star, and a member since 1945. She moved to Jacksonville, Texas in 1993, where she attended St. John's United Methodist Church. In 2009, she moved to Georgetown, Texas where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Rev. Art Haddock, her son Major Tom M. Haddock, USMC (Ret), brother Vernon "Sonny" Christiansen, sister Elsie Lee "Tootie" Dippel, and brother Martin Julian "Julio" Christiansen.

Doris is survived by her daughter Nancy Haddock Meissner and Son-in-Law Gary Meissner, of Georgetown, TX; Daughter-in-Law, Patricia Haddock of Rusk, TX; Granddaughter Adrienne White and husband Bobby White of Katy, TX; Grandson, Bryan Haddock of Rusk, TX, Granddaughter Teri Lynn Williams of Katy, TX; Great Granddaughters Gabrielle and Brenna White of Katy, TX, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00, at Triska Funeral Home, 612 Merchant, in El Campo, TX. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 211 East 3rd, in El Campo, TX., with Rev. Rick DuBroc and Rev. Beverly Schmidt officiating. Graveside services will follow immediately at Garden of Memories Cemetery, El Campo, TX. Reception will be held following graveside services at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Vencie Jean Yeager Hadley

Vencie Jean (Yeager) Hadley, 68, of Bay City passed away June 7, 1996 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston. She was born December 26, 1927 in Bay City, Texas to George Briscoe and Vencie Shriver Yeager.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and a life-long resident of the area.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Richey, Janice Nesbitt, and Georgeann Hadley, all of Bay City; son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Susan Hadley of Eagle Lake, Texas; sister, Janice Yeager Sailor of Monarch, Mt.; brother and sister-in-law, George and Dorothy Yeager of Bay City. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Larry and Christie Harrison of Cedar Lane, Crystal and Frederick L. “Pokey” Pierce of Blessing, Danne Richey, Amanda Nesbitt both of Bay City, Bryan and Russell Hadley of Eagle Lake and Kaycee Castleberry of Bay City, also five great-grandchildren, Chase Harrison of Cedar Lane, Brandon Thomas of Cedar Lane, Colton, Sarena and Sabrina Pierce all of Blessing.

Grave side services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Monday June 10, 1996 at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, Texas with Rev. Karl Choate officiating. Pallbearers include, Roger “Tiger” Schneider, Nat Bustos, Gayle Holton, Bob Andrews, Berry Monteau, and Clyde Hauff. Vera Hahn

Vera Hahn, 76, of Wadsworth, Texas died Sunday, Oct. 13, 1996 at her residence.

She was born April 2, 1920 to parents John and Vera Vychopen Kopac in Caldwell. She was a member of the Rhema Fellowship Church in Bay City. She retired from the Bay City Independent School District after 20 years of service in the cafeteria.

Survivors are son, Marvin Hahn of Wadsworth; daughters, Dolores Arendall of Natalia, Texas, and Rosie Avant, San Antonio; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 2 p. m. at the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Villareal of the Rhema Fellowship Church officiating.

Pallbearers are Robert Long, Justin Harrell, David Cockran, George Lapp, Wayne George, and Christopher Ryman. Service under the direction of Dick R. Elkins Bay City Funeral Home.

Priscilla Lopez Hailstone
May 15, 1977 – June 15, 2012

Priscilla Lopez Hailstone, 35, of Bay City, went to be with her Lord on June 15, 2012.

Priscilla was born on May 15, 1977, in Bay City, Texas to Felipe and Norma Macal Lopez, II.

Priscilla loved people and especially her family. She was always ready to help anyone that needed her help. Priscilla loved to cook for her family and friends, and she loved to do hair and makeup.

She is survived by: her loving husband, Jay Hailstone; her child, Jordan Barclay Hailstone; her mother, Norma DeWitt; step-father, Leroy DeWitt; sisters and brothers; Cynthia and husband Keith Blackwell, Michele Lopez, Felipe Lopez lll, Jennifer Lopez, Necole DeWitt, John DeWitt, Leroy DeWitt II; maternal grandmother, Conception Macal and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday June 20, 2012 at the Funeral Home.

CORPUS CHRISTI - Leoma J. Smith Hale, 89, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005.

She was born Feb. 23, 1916, in Matagorda County, to the late Thomas B. and Irma Smith. She worked in the Matagorda County Tax Office for 20 years, many of those years as Chief Deputy, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Bay City, retired from Cages Six Points Store as a bookkeeper with 17 years service and was a member of Parkdale Baptist Church.

Survivors: daughters, Barbara Hale of Splendora, and Judy Shockley of Corpus Christi; son, Bryan Hale of El Campo; sisters, Ethel Goode of Kingsville and Pauline Hickey of Bay City; brother, Tom Smith of El Paso; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Ardie E. Hale; son, Connie E. Hale; sister, Myrtle Johnson; brothers, Oscar Smith and Joe Smith; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, in Corpus Christi.

Antionette “Annie” Elizabeth Hildebrand Hall
Sept. 25, 1952 – July 19, 2012

Annie Hall, 59, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 19, 2012. She passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by family and friends.

She was born on September 25, 1952 in New Braunfels, Texas, to Franz and Mary Hildebrand.

Annie married her loving and devoted husband of 39 years, Johnny Hall, on August 19, 1972. She went on to have three children, James, Raymond, and Leanne. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Annie believed in showing Jesus’ love to all. Her generous and loving spirit has impacted many lives and she will be in the hearts of everyone she met.

Annie is survived by: her husband, Johnny Hall; three children, James (Kris), Raymond (Cathy), and Leanne (James Lee Johnson); seven grandchildren, Valarie, Owen, Ashley, Kaelyn, Jayleigh, Kailey, and Kerri; brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday July 27, 2012 with open viewing from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.; family will be present from 5 until 7 p.m. at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, 2313 Ave I in Bay City, Texas.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Bay City Baptist Church, 1818 Marguerite in Bay City, Texas with Bro. Lee Watson officiating.

Graveside service will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help 16075 N. Evans RD. in Selma, Texas at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012.

HAMELINK, Peter, 87, born in Holland in 1883 and a resident of Blessing for the past 29 years, passed away at Matagorda General Hospital on July 29, 1971. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruby Hamelink of Blessing, two daughters Mrs. Ellen Meadows of El Paso, Mrs. Mildred Bess of Corpus Christi, two sons William J. King of Markham, David King of Houston, 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was a member of the Blessing [Lodge] A. F. & A. M. James Hamilton
May 29, 1948 - June 23, 2012

James Hamilton (Squeaky), 64, passed away at his home in Hamilton, Montana on June 23, 2012.

He grew up in Cedar Lane, Texas and lived there until moving to Hamilton, Montana in 2004.

He was born to Jim and Amy (Whittlesey) Hamilton on May 29, 1948. James graduated from Van Vleck ISD in 1966, then attended Sam Houston University and receiving a Bachelors and Masters degree in Art and English in 1975.

The majority of his career he was employed through the State of Texas, working for TEC in Bay City and then managing the Wharton office until he left in 2003.

Upon moving to Montana, he worked with the State of Montana Workforce until he retired in 2009.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Amy and Jim Hamilton; and his son, Logan Hamilton.

He is survived by: Gabriel Trollinger - Hamilton, Jaggar Hamilton, and Laci Hamilton; and grandchildren, Garrett, Gabrielle, Joeli, Skyler, Kendal, Jaggar Jr., Jason Jr., and Thomas.

He is also survived by one sister, Sue Hamilton Ellis (Leonard), two nephews and two nieces.

An informal memorial service will be held for James from 10 a.m. until 2p.m., July 21, 2012 at the Hampton Inn in Bay City, Texas. A speaker will address those in attendance at 11:30 a.m.

Paul Lee Wayne Hardy, 7 months, of Hallettsville, passed away April 9, 2012.

He was born on August 18, 2011, to Jacob and Ashley Hammer Hardy in Yoakum, Texas.

James Jesse Harris Jr.

James Jesse Harris Jr., 60 of Sweeny, Texas, passed away April 5, 1996 at his residence. He was born January 4, 1936 in Blessing, Texas to James Jesse Harris Sr. and Velma Florence Dorris Harris.

Mr. Harris was a member of the Baptist Church and a resident of Sweeny for 34 years. He was formerly employed as an operator for Celanese Chemical for 15 years and for the past 14 years was employed by Seagull Energy Products in Palacios.

He is survived by his wife, Etta Mae Harris of Sweeny, by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shari and Travis Schuerg of Sweeny and Rhonda and Johnny Christian of Brazoria, Texas, by one son and daughter-in-law Leslie and Lynn Harris of Sweeny, by one sister, Hazel Deen of Francitas, Texas, by one brother Chuck Harris of Helendale, California, by 10 grandchildren, Brent and Taylor Schuerg, James and Chelsea Christian, Brandy, Mandy and Travis Schuerg Jr., Lauren and Roxanne Johnston, and Lanae Reed, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Velma Harris

Velma Harris, 78, of Francitas died Tuesday, May 18, 1993.

She was born March 30, 1915 in Markham, to the late Benjamin C. and Clara E. Green Dorris. She was a homemaker and member of Francitas Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Hazel Deen of Francitas; sons, James J. Harris Jr. of Sweeny and Charles L. Harris of California; brother, James L. Black of Markham; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Harris Sr.

Graveside services were held at Hawley Cemetery on May 21.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.

SORROW - Cyrus Ellsworth Harter

Friends of this community were shocked when they received the news Wednesday afternoon, that Mr. and Mrs. C. A[E]. Harter, were in an automobile accident in Colorado. Mr. Harter was killed instantly and Mrs. Harter was injured critically. Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Love, friend with whom they were riding, were also injured.

Mr. Harter’s body arrived Sunday noon and funeral services were held t the family residence at three o’clock, with Rev. Engle of Bay City, officiating and burial was in the Hawley cemetery under the direction of Taylor Brothers of Bay City.

Mr. Harter was survived by his wife, two sons, Avon and Kirk and two grandchildren.

Friends of this community extend their deepest sympathy and sorrow, to the bereaved family.

Mr. Avon and Kirk Harter left immediately after funeral services for Colorado to be at the bedside of their mother who isn’t expected to live.

Funeral Services Held For Wreck Victim

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the family residence in Blessing, for Mrs. Lucille H. Harter, who died September 5th, from injuries received in an automobile wreck at Alamosa, Colorado, August 3rd. Her remains were shipped to Blessing September 8th.

She is survived by two sons; Avon and Kirk, both of Blessing

The funeral services were under the direction of Taylor Bros. Rev. Paul Engle officiated. Interment was in Hawley cemetery. Pallbearers were: Roe Guynes, W. A. Sanford, F. G. Cobb, A. C. Thomas, E. D. Day and R. E. Terry.

Cindy Hartley, age 69, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on March 5, 2012.

She was born December 22, 1942, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Norman and Annis (McClellan) Rupert.

Cindy was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin, McKinney resident for 40 years, and a sales associate at Dillard's.

One of Cindy's greatest joys over the last few years was her granddaughter Regan. She helped in the caring of Regan and was a great influence on her young life. Cindy was deeply loved and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her son, William Hartley and wife Devon of Anna, Texas; granddaughter, Regan Hartley; brother, Jimmy Rupert of Houston, Texas; and nephew, Brandon Rupert of Bay City, Texas.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Rupert; and sister, Sandra Rupert.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Hawley Cemetery, in Blessing, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening, from 7-9 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow, Allen, Texas.

Frances C. Harvey
(March 14, 1918 - July 24, 2012)

Frances C. Harvey, at the age of 94 years, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the Legacy Campus Matagorda Healthcare Center in Bay City, Texas. She was greatly loved by her family, especially all her grandchildren who thought she was the world’s greatest cook, and the one to whom they should tell all their secrets when they spent the night with her. She will be remembered and missed by the ones she left behind…yet who know that one day we shall again see MaMa….this time in Heaven.

Mrs. Harvey was born in Devers, Texas, on March 14, 1918, but a few years later her parents, Aze Berry and Anna Snider, moved to Palacios, Texas. As a young girl, she met and later married Freeman Harvey whose family moved from East Texas to Palacios. The couple had five children, a daughter, Nalona Harvey Neuszer (husband, Leo), Blessing; four sons: Gaylon Harvey (wife, Rosemary), Blessing; Larry Harvey (wife, Dorette), Alvin; Donnie (wife, Mary Jo), Palacios; and Lonnie (wife, Wanda), Palacios. She had 16 Grandchildren; 36 Great-Grandchildren, and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, her husband, Freeman Harvey, and her son, Lonnie Harvey, and 1 infant grandchild, and 4 infant great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Harvey’s service will be Friday, July 27, 2012, at 10:00AM at Palacios Funeral Home in Palacios, TX. Visitation will be Thursday evening, 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Palacios Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her 8 grandsons: Tim Harvey, Chris Harvey, Toby Harvey, Phil Neuszer, Michael Harvey, Tyson Harvey, David Harvey, and Kevin Harvey.

Celia Haskins, 78, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Celia was born on October 16, 1933 in San Benito, Texas to the late Jose and Romana Salines Gonzales. Celia was a loving mother and grandmother, kind and giving.

She is survived by her loving family; daughter, Debbie Haskins Koegel & husband Karl, grandchildren, Phillip Euellen Haskins, Gabriella, Abigail and Nathan Koegel, brother, Celso Gonzales and numerous other loving relatives. Eddie Haynes

LIVE OAK - Eddie Haynes, 57, of Live Oak, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003.

He was born Jan. 4, 1945, in Columbus, to the late Eddie Haynes Sr. and Mattie Jones. He was a member of Church of God Prophecy.

Survivors: wife, Linda Stewart; daughters, Patricia Brown, Cookie Bailey and Ada Stewart, all of Bay City; sons, Eddie Haynes III and Robert Brown, both of Houston and Calvin Williams of Bay City; sister, Bertha Jefferson and Helen Victoria, both of Bay City; and numerous grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; sister, Daisy Barfield; and brother, Thurman Hurd and Clarence Hurd.

Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. tonight at Green's Mortuary chapel.

LaVerne Heller

Funeral services for LaVerne Heller, 77, of Markham, are scheduled for 10 a. m. Wednesday at St. Robert’s Catholic Church in Markham with the Rev. Peter Higgins officiating. Burial will follow in Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

A rosary will be said at 7:30 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel.

Mrs. Heller was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Markham to Elwood and Imma Jean Thompson Smith and died June 13, 1994, in the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

She retired in 1979 as assistant post master for the U. S. Postal Service in Markham. A life long resident of Markham, she was a member of St. Robert’s Catholic Church in Markham.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Lawrence Heller of Pasadena and Wilburn Howard Heller of Markham; two granddaughters, Stephanie Heller of San Antonio and Chrystal Heller of Ganado and by a cousin, Luella Harper of Bay City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. B. “Bunny” Heller on June 21, 1963.

Pallbearers will be Joe Carter, Gerald Matting, James Cowgar, Bill Ottis, Lee Hall Pierce and Daniel Cornelius.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Bali Netaji, Dr. William Yankowsky, Frank Gale, Fred Holub, Leon Wolfe, A. J. Kacer, Joe Ybarra, Norberto Sliva, Lonnie Bullard and Alan Dablegott.

In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association.

Melvina Austin Henry, 86, a resident of Cedar Lane, passed away at her home December 14. Survivors include: 2 daughters, Babie Lou Williams of San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. Ethel Willis of Houston; 3 sons, Buster Henry, Howard Henry of Cedar Lane and A. C. Henry of Van Vleck; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. Maudell Gillett Hidy
(September 9, 1924 - July 5, 2012)

Maudell Gillette Hidy went to be with her Lord , dying peacefully at home July 5, 2012. Maudell was born in Orangefield, Texas on September 9, 1924 to the late Emanuel and Palmy Broussard Gillette. Maudell enjoyed duck hunting and finding native American arrowheads. She traveled all over the world taking cruises and playing golf. Maudell started playing the piano at church and social functions from a very early age. She worked at Camp Hulen during WWll with her father. She was one of the original pink ladies at Wagner General Hospital. During the 1960’s she worked at the First Baptist Church in Palacios as Nursery Director and Church Secretary. She also helped her husband Buster on the operation of Gillett Net Shop. She was a beloved wife and caregiver to her husbands. She was a member of the Grace Fellowship Church at Fair Oaks Ranch, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Palacios for 40 years. Survived by her family; children, Stanley Gillett of Boerne, Texas, Edward Gillett of Palacios, Tx; sisters, Leta Bristol of Renton, Washington, Lois Gilliam of Centerville, Tx., Pam Connis of Palacios, Tx.; Morgan Gillett & wife Valerie of Palacios, Mandalyn Felix & husband Mike of Damon, Tx., Meagan Gillett of Pearland, Tx., Maslin Campbell & husband Mike of Alexandria, Louisiana, Stacie Gillett of San Antonio, Tx., Jana Bayless & husband Kevin of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Jack Gillett of Houston, James Gillett of Baytown, Halie Gillett of The Woodlands, Barbara Gillett of Boerne, Tx; 10 Great-Grandchildren. John Milton Hiltpold
 

VICTORIA - John Milton Hiltpold, 90, passed away peacefully March 4, 2012. He was born October 11, 2011 to parents, Lillie and Ulrich Hiltpold in Matagorda County .


John graduated from Texas A & M University ; his career in petroleum industry followed studies from University of Houston and Southern Methodist University where he was production superintendent from Louisiana to Brownsville retiring from American Petroleum after 40 years.

 

He served in the Army of the United States in the 40th Division Headquarters Company, 108th Infantry where he received three Bronze Stars and many various ribbons and medals for military action. Growing up in rural Texas in depression years prepared him for a life of determination and independence that taught values in surviving with limited resources and relying on oneself.


He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Selma Harmon, brother Herbert Hiltpold and wife Eunice Johnson Hiltpold.


He is survived by stepson Kenneth Johnson and wife Barbara, stepdaughter Annette Partain and husband Robert and stepdaughter Nancy Currie and husband Jack.


His cocker spaniel, Guinevere, was his faithful companion. His hobby in gardening was well known by friends and neighbors who benefitted from his host abilities. Playing dominoes and travelling and visiting with friends were his favorite pastimes.


Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday March 7, 2012 at 10 am at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rev. Jarrell Sharpe officiating. A Flag Folding Presentation will be provided by the Victoria Veterans Council.

Dorothy Ramsey Hite
Sept. 19, 1925 – April 25, 2012

Mrs. Dorothy Ramsey Hite, 86, of Wharton died Wednesday morning, April 25, 2012, in a Sugar Land Hospital following a sudden illness.

She was born on September 19, 1925 in Wharton, Texas, the daughter of the late Ira G. Broughton and Alma Neal Smith Broughton.

Mrs. Hite was married to James Hite who preceded her in death on July 2, 2007.

Survivors include: her sons, Rob Ramsey (and wife, Lynn) of San Antonio and Van Broughton Ramsey of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, Ashley Ramsey Weaver (and husband, Kevin) of Kansas City, Kansas and Meagan Ramsey Greene (and husband, Boyd) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Ramsey Claire, Henry, Clayton, Madeline, Sam and Eloise; and cousin, Barbara Sliva (and husband Frank), of Bay City.

Mrs. Hite was a graduate of Wharton High School and later studied dancing in the Los Angeles area. She taught dancing for many years in Wharton and Bay City and was active in the Puppet Ministry at First Baptist Church in Wharton, where she was a longtime member.

She loved the Lord, her family, her friends, her dogs, dancing, the theater, and puppeteering.

And she loved Wharton. It was where she was born, where she lived most of her life, and where she will be buried.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Mr. Mickey Reynolds officiating.

Pallbearers will be John Travis Bailey, Jeffrey Blair, Kenny Blair, Lawrence Burnett, Boyd Greene, and Kevin Weaver.

Burial will follow in the Wharton Cemetery in Wharton.

In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family asks that any memorials be sent in the form of donations to Wharton County S.P.O.T. (Stray Pet Outreach Team), P.O. Box 584, Wharton, Texas 77488.

RAMONA DENNIS HOFFMAN

Funeral services were held for Ramona Dennis Hoffman at Forest Oaks Mausoleum in Austin, Tx.

Ramona was born in 1932 in Bristow, Oklahoma. She married Roger Hoffman in 1949. She passed away in her home on May 21, 2012.

She was very active with the group at the Senior’s Center crocheting caps for children with cancer. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church and was a cheerful addition to the congregation. Ramona and Roger Hoffman joined the population of Palacios in 2001 after 15 years of RV’ing to Palacios in the winter from Lubbock, Tx.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Hoffman; mother Edith Crawford; and father Charles Frazier and sister Carolyn Jean Rowe.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Robin and Robert Reynolds, Roxanne McNeil, Rebecca and Karl Henry and son and daughter-in-law Richard and Dondi Hoffman; along with 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sisters Betty Smith and Patricia Taylor; brothers Robert Frazier and Harold Crawford.

Sandra Yvonne Hoffman
(August 19, 1943 - March 7, 2012)

Sandra "Sandy" Y. Hoffman, 68 of Sargent, went home to be with the Lord on March 7th, 2012 after a brief illness. Sandy was born in Lynchburg, Virginia and spent most of her young life there. She met the love of her life, John L. Hoffman, while working at the officer’s club at Fort Belvoir Virginia. John and Sandy went on to wed and had two children that she cherished, Lisa and John. Sandy’s fondest memory was raising her children and then enjoying time with her grandchildren. Sandy had a special gift of taking care of people usually through her cooking. No one left the Hoffman house hungry. Sandy spent her final years on earth celebrating Christ with her Church buddies at Calvary Church in Sargent. Sandy’s sweet smile and demeanor will be missed by many on earth but is now being celebrated in Heaven.

Sandy is survived by her daughter, Lisa J. Hoffman of Sargent, son John P. Hoffman and wife Wendy of Bay City, and three grandchildren, Carissa Hoffman, Kaley Hoffman, and Lesley Hoffman. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband John Leslie Hoffman. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home on Friday, March 9th. Funeral service will be 2PM Saturday, March 10th at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Bay City - Joy Fern Hogan-Gresham, 53, of Bay City, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. She was born April 24, 1958 in Victoria to Robert and Betty Yaws Hogan.

In addition to her parents, Joy is survived by her daughter, Kristin (Bill) Hogan Adams of Seabrook; sister, Kathy Hogan (Richard) Hengst of Buda; brothers, Robert Lee (Velma) Hogan Jr. of Tomball, and Richard Alan (Marion) Hogan of Victoria; Joy absolutely adored her granddaughter, Peyton and her grandson, Mykah; she is also survived by her grandmother, Julie Hogan of Victoria, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Maddy.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Funeral Home on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., with Alton Akin officiating.

Floyd Holloway, 76, of Blessing passed away Dec. 6, 1996 at Detar Hospital in Victoria.

He was born August 22, 1920 in DeQueen, Arkansas to Floyd H. and Eva Mae Hyman Holloway. He had been a resident of Palacios for 69 years prior to moving to Blessing a year ago. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a veteran of WWII.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Adkisson Holloway of Blessing; by one daughter and son-in-law, Bettie and James Hagaman of Blessing; by four sisters, Dessie Lehmann of Spring, Bessie Green of Nordheim, Ruth Britt of Dayton, and Nona Warner of Munbank; by three brothers, Clyde Holloway of Sandia, Texas, Lloyd Holloway of Palacios, and Gary Holloway of Cleveland; and by two grandchildren, Cody Hagaman of Blessing, and Stacy Novak and her husband, Andy of Blessing.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996 at the Hawley Cemetery in Blessing with Bro. Shan Jackson officiating.

Beulah Ann Horne
June 15, 1934 – April 16, 2012

Beulah Ann Horne, known as Ann to friends and mom to family, was born in Ohio on June 15, 1934. She was one of three daughters born to William Kennedy and Virginia Buckley.

Thomas (Tom) William Horne (Sr.) and Ann met in River Rouge, Michigan in April of 1954 and later married on January 7, 1955.

She (along with her husband Tom) took a keen interest in the study of God’s Word in 1958 and after a series of weekly home bible discussions both dedicated their lives to Jehovah God. They symbolized that dedication through water immersion on May 4, 1961.

Tom and Ann moved from Michigan to Texas in 1970 to “serve where the need was greater.” Upon arriving in Texas, they set up residence in Palacios, Texas, commuting to and serving in the Jehovah’s Witnesses Bay City, Texas congregation. Both later served in a congregation set up in Palacios, Texas. In June of 1977, Tom, Ann and family moved to Bay City, Texas and have served in the Bay City, Texas congregation to date.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, William Kennedy and Virginia Buckley; sister, Joanne Kennedy; and one son, Thomas William Horne Jr..

She is survived by: her husband ,Thomas William Horne Sr.; one son, John J. Horne; two daughters, Phyllis Ann Horne and Kendall Horne Niles; one sister, Charlene (Margaret) Kennedy; one son-in-law, Stephen Dale Niles; one daughter-in-law, Vicki Jo Horne; eight grandchildren, Amy Marie Horne, Johnathan Thomas Horne, Alara Rianne Brumaghin, Gary Ryan Smith, Jayme Erin Smith, James Grey Smith, Luke Brenham Horne, and Matthew Thomas Niles; seven great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Joined with the family are more than 7.5 million Jehovah’s Witnesses around the earth that look forward to seeing when the bible based “Hope” of a resurrection becomes a reality.

Just think of a world, a world without tears, where a man can live for a million years. With never a grief, an ache or a pain, and never a thought of dying again. Based on Revelation 21:3 and 4.

Glenda McSwane Hughes

Funeral services for Glenda McSwane Hughes, 60, of Buffalo, are scheduled for 2 p. m. Sunday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Bay City. Burial will follow in Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

Mrs. Hughes was born Aug. 17, 1933, in Lafayette, La., and died May 20, 1994, in Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield.

A retired supervisor and teacher of special education, she was active in cattle and ostrich ranching.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Hughes Glover and George Glover, both of Buffalo; a grandson, Will Glover of Buffalo and a granddaughter, Lindsay Glover of Buffalo.

Pallbearers are Steve Barton, Arthur Milberger, Greg Westmoreland, Charlie Allison, Lindsey Thompson and Bruce Richardson.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Russell Matthes, Dr. Tillman Daniel, Jon Abshier, Glen Dale Oliver, Russell Law and L. William Hiligbrodt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R. Q. and Lesta McSwane.

Rupert Milton "Rusty" Hughes passed from this life and into the loving arms of God on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at 2:10 p.m. in the Audie Murphy Memorial Veterans Administration Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

He was a decorated Korean War veteran of the United States Army having been awarded the Purple Heart and 4 Silver Stars by the country he loved and protected.

He passed peacefully in the presence of his family who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by: his mother, Amanda Jane Hughes of Bay City; father, William Otto Hughes of Sweeny; sister, Markie Howell of Sacramento, California; and brothers Henry and Dooley Hughes of Bay City.

He is survived by: his sister, Agnes Mae Hughes of Fort Worth; wife of 21 years, Bonnie Hughes; daughter, Vera Jane and granddaughter Bailey of Blessing. He also is survived by children from his previous marriage, Dr. Barry Hughes, wife Gail and son Barry II of Brazoria; daughter, Julie Elsen, her husband Thomas and son Thomas Miles of Brazoria; daughters Brenda Hughes and sons Naval Recruit Randy Allen McIntyre and Ryan and Kenneth of Sweeny; son Steven Hughes, wife Tammie and their son Jeremy and daughters Autumn and Austin of Sweeny; and daughter Marcella Buchanan, husband Trampas and their son Ethan and daughter Madison of Brazoria; as well as other close relatives
and friends too numerous to list.

Dorothy M. Humphreys, 90, of Palacios, TX, passed away Friday, April 28, 1995 at the Palacios Healthcare Center, Palacios. She was born August 5, 1905 in Dallas, TX to Hugh and Sadie Rice McNutt. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Palacios. The Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of the American Revolution, and a former member of The Athena Club of Palacios. She attended Business College in Dallas, the Centenary College in Shreveport, LA, and married Earl F. Humphreys on November 25, 1945 in Rockwell, TX.

She is survived by her husband, Earl F. Humphreys of Palacios, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were 10:00 a. m., Monday, May 1, 1995 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating the service will be Rev. Ralph Smith of The First United Methodist Church, Palacios and Rev. Jessie Jones of The United Pentecostal Church, Palacios. Burial will follow at Hawley Cemetery, Blessing, TX. Drexell Hurley

PALACIOS - Drexell Hurley, 81, of Palacios, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. He was born Dec. 18, 1930 in Amory, Miss. to the late Roy and Bertha Parish Hurley. He was Baptist and an auto factory worker.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Hurley of Palacios; daughter, Linda Faro (Danny) of Indiana; sons, Terry Hurley (Sandy) of Russell, ILL., Tony Hurley (Mike) of Seattle, Wash., Tim Hurley (Janet) of Bay City; sisters, Claudeen Pannell of Brooksville, Miss. and Pat Dixon of Sun City West, Ariz.; brother, David Hurley of Amory, Miss.; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Bob Hurley; sister, Evelee Sears; and grandson, Corey Hurley.

Edwin Edward Hurta, Jr.

Funeral services were held Wednesday for Edwin Edward Hurta Jr., 49, of Edna. Burial was at Memory Gardens of Edna.

Mr. Hurta was born July 15, 1943 in El Campo to Edwin Edward and Anna Mae Swinky Hurta Sr. and he died Dec. 28, 1992 at a Victoria hospital.

He was a county commissioner in Jackson County’s Precinct 3 since 1984 and a member of First United Methodist Church. Monday he would have started his third four-year term as commissioner. He was a graduate of Tidehaven High School.

Mr. Hurta was a member of the Edna Volunteer Fire Department, club service chairman for the Edna Rotary Club, board member of the Edna Little League Association and a member of the Golden Crescent Regional Council of Governments. He was also a member of the Edna Jaycees and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture as well as being involved in the Heart Foundation of Texas.

He was a plant manager and secretary-treasurer for the former Wells-Wright, Inc. in Edna. He married the former Priscilla Fitzgerald Oct. 19, 1963 in Blessing.

Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Fitzgerald Hurta; two daughters, Lynda Brooks of Odessa and Brenda Stewart of Hallettsville; a son, Jason Edward Hurta of Edna; his parents, Anna and Edwin Hurta Sr. of Midfield; a sister, LaVerne Hicks of Midfield; two brothers, Marvin W. Hurta of Ashby and Lawrence of Midfield and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements were with Slavik Funeral Home in Edna.
