On September 7, 1927 Olice Lee Hammond was born to Tom and Eva Birmingham in Clemville, TX. She went to be with the Lord on Sept 5, 2016 after a very lengthy battle against Alzheimer's. She married her sweetheart Robert Winston Hammond on April 30, 1946 at the Methodist Church in West Columbia, TX. They resided in Sweeny, TX for all of their years together creating a loving family. She worked for many years as a practical nurse and later as the E.R. Clerk at Sweeny Community Hospital. Olice enjoyed playing volleyball as a young adult. Later in life she was an amazing artist, creating many beautiful paintings. She attended Gulf Coast Bible Church where her faith grew even stronger. Her church family admired and loved her as much as her own family did. Olice loved to dance, have family gatherings and be the laughter of the party. She was a fun loving person who truly enjoyed life to the fullest. Olice Lee Hammond was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bradley Birmingham, her Brother-In-Law Hank Anthis and her devoted loving husband Robert Winston Hammond. She is survived by her children Robert Lynn Hammond, Melba Darlene Smith (Donald), Terry Glenn Hammond (Gail), Her sisters Lura Janet Anthis and Barbara Ann Chandler. Her grandchildren Patchouli Smith, Joe Hammond (Alicia), Destin Muntzel (Alicia), Bianca Cunningham (Blaine), Robert Lee Hammond (Ginger), Lucas Hammond (Kathya) and Mikah Hammond (Kassy). Nephews B.C. Birmingham, Don Anthis, Tommy Anthis, Gregory Pitcock and Niece Tina Jackson. As well as 7 Great-Grandsons and 9 Great-Grandaughters. Visitation will be held Friday September 9th, 5:00 to 7:00pm at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, TX. Service will be held Saturday September 10th 10:00 am at Gulf Coast Bible Church, Sweeny, TX with graveside service to follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Destin Muntzel, Lucas Hammond, Joe Hammond, Greg Pitcock, Robert Lee Hammond and Mikah Hammond. William Thomas Hargrove ended his journey on this earth on January 24, 2018, in his home in Bay City, Tx, surrounded by his son and loving wife. He was born in Freeport, Tx on January 23, 1949. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents Robert & Catherine Hargrove, his 1st wife Lanna Joyce Redinger Hargrove, and his younger brother James Douglas Hargrove. He is survived by his 2nd wife, Peggy McGee, his sons Christopher Thomas Hargrove & William Oliver Hargrove, his daughters Kasie Erica McGowan & Mia Augusta Hargrove, brothers Robert Hargrove, Hardy Hargrove, his step- children James Zimmer, Wendy Greenwood, Lisa Casella, Tammi McGee, Laurie McGee, grandchildren & his step-grandchildren. He was a loving father, beloved grandfather, giving husband and wonderful provider. He married Lanna Joyce Redinger May 25, 1992, at age 43. On March 25, 2015, Lanna passed away. During the next year, he met Peggy McGee, and remarried at age 66, on September 2, 2016. He had stated on many occasions, that he was a lucky man, because God not only sent him Lanna, but also Peggy. He often referred to himself as having two soul mates. He was an exceptional writer, and was fascinated by history. He loved fishing and hunting, and spent many of his later years enjoying these hobbies with his family. Visitation with the people who loved William Tommy Hargrove will be held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City, Tx, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Jane Peters Harper, 96, of Bay City, Texas passed away Sunday February 26, 2017 at Saint Lukes Hospital in Sugar Land, Texas. She was born September 30, 1920 in Red Oak, Iowa to Joseph A. and Mabel Wenstrand Peters. She was a resident of Bay City since 1939. Jane attended Oklahoma College for Women and the University of Texas where she was affiliated with Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Jane was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Fellowship class. She was a charter member of Bay City Junior Service League and Southwest International Belleek Society. Jane is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Hugh Harper; and her brother, Lt. Col. Bernard Peters. She is survived by two nieces, Nancy Peters-Janover of Novato, California, and Linda Peters and husband George Cotroneio, as well as of great nephew, Christopher Peters Cotroneio all of Scotts Valley, California; great niece, Alisha La Count and great nephew Charles Harris. Also, her adopted families of Cornelia and Torsten Normann-Petersen and Priscilla Wissink. The family is grateful to all of Jane's caretakers, particularly Geraldine Slaughter. Bay City—Hugh F. Harper, 76, of Bay City, died at 10 p. m. Wednesday at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Jim Welch officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. He was born July 27, 1914, in Port Arthur, to the late Caleb and Belle Stafford Harper. He was a retired realtor of Hugh Harper Realty and had resided in Bay City for the past 51 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Harper was past president and board member of the Bay City Booster Club, the Wesley Class, the Bay City Country Club, the Matagorda County Board of Realtors, the State Board of Texas Realtors, the Lion’s Club an the First United Methodist Church Board of Stewards. Funeral services for Littleton Harvey will be held at the Palacios Funeral Home at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday, March 27, with Mr. Dual Pritchard officiating. Interment will be in Hawley Cemetery. A son of Skillen and Lydia Sowell Harvey, he was born May 13, 1915 and died suddenly of an apparent heart attack Monday, March 25. Mr. Harvey was a welder and lived on Highway 35, north of Palacios. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Harvey; mother, Mrs. Lydia Harvey, both of Palacios; three daughters, Mrs. Jenell Kaminsky and Mrs. Sue Boyd, both of Rosenberg and Mrs. Mavie Stuckey of Columbus, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. R. N. Carrick of La Marque, Mrs. Olga Sawyer of Houston, Mrs. Marceline Mull of Texas City and two brothers, Raymond and Early Harvey, both of Palacios.

Mabel Fay Powers Harvey, 98, of Bay City, Texas, passed away June 9, 2016. She was born in Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas, on June 30, 1917, to the late Frank Jerod Powers and Elsie Mae Powers, on their farm near the Tres Palacios River. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her siblings, Fern Harvey, J.E. Powers, Wilbur Powers, Eldon Powers, Maxine Powers Schooley and Frankie Powers. All the Powers children attended the nearby Prairie Center School, traveling by horseback each day. As young children, Fay and Fern were responsible for tending and milking approximately seventeen Milch cows on the farm of their grandparents, Wilber Jerod Powers and Mary Viola Heiser Powers. Fay and Laure Harvey raised a family of three children, Ronny, Pat, and Mike Harvey. As a bookkeeper, she worked in Bay City for several local businesses, including Russell Drilling Co., The Daily Tribune, and the country club. By working outside the home, Fay was able to send all three of her children to college. Survivors include Ronald Harvey and wife Charlene of Sugar Land, Pat Harvey Fariss and husband Jack of Pearland, and Mike Harvey of Fredericksburg; grandchildren, Kristin Themy and husband Dean of Missouri City, Rhonda Fariss of Round Rock, Jamie Wayt and husband Bryce of Los Angeles, California; great-grandchildren, Zach Elkins of Houston, Andrew Essl of College Station, and Chandler Essl of Missouri City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2016, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Palacios, Texas. Visitation prior to the service will begin at 1 pm. Following interment at the Palacios Cemetery, the family will host a reception in Weimer Hall, First United Methodist Church. Bay City, Feb. 11--P. T. Harvey, 43, was found dead in his cell at the county jail here. He was believed to have slashed his throat with a razor blade sometime early Thursday. Several days ago he was placed in the jail. Harvey, a farmer, resided near Clemville. He was the father of three daughters and five sons. His wife and the children survive.--Houston Post.

Mrs. Barbara Frank Herman passed away in Terrell, Texas, at the age of 74 years. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Midfield cemetery, the Rev. V. Daus officiating. Justin Earl Higgins, 36, of Bay City, Texas, passed away on July 7, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. Justin was born to Jack and Janet Higgins on May 22, 1980, in Wharton, Texas. He attended school in Bay City his entire academic life and graduated in 1998. He was active in band and choir. Justin graduated from Argosy University in 2015, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Justin is survived by his parents, Jack and Janet Higgins of Bay City; sister, Marla Ryman of Bay City; brother, Brandon Higgins and wife Stephanie of Abilene; one nephew, Khole Ryman of Bay City; two nieces, Krysta Ryman of Bay City and Andrea Higgins of Abilene; paternal grandmothers, Robert Nickerson of Bay City and Patty Higgins of Trenton, MO; three aunts and uncles, John and Becky Kauffman of Tucson, AR., Joe and Darlene Higgins of Ridgeway, MO., and Chris Kauffman of Irving; and numerous cousins. A Rosenberg man was killed and two others were injured when their car flipped over north of Sugar Land in Fort Bend County. Neal R. Holt Jr., 29, was dead shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after his car left the road in the 13600 block of Florence, said Fort Bend County sheriff’s deputies. Holt was driving east on Florence when his car went off the right side of the road and then off the left side where it overturned. Holt was ejected from the vehicle. His 18-month-old son, Justin, a passenger in the car, was in fair condition at Memorial Hospital Southwest. Another passenger in the vehicle, Larry R. Elizalde, 29, of 11605 Sela, was treated and released at Memorial.

Jerry Lee Holubec, 73, of Bay City, Texas, passed away August 22, 2016. He was born December 27, 1942 in Beeville, TX, to the late William Holubec and Mary Ann Hermis Holubec. He was a meat market manager for many years and a retiree of Matagorda County. Most recently, he was known as the ‘Tomato King’ for the many vegetables and homemade picante sauce he provided to the community. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Kevin Wayne Holubec; and sister, Elizabeth McFall. Survivors include daughters, Drenda Williams and husband Clay of Bay City, Jeri Lyn Sump and husband Dale of Austin, and Amanda Watson and husband Diamond of Wichita Falls; sisters, Josephine Smith and husband R. William Edward “Bill” Holzapfel Sr., 85, of Blessing, TX, passed away August 29, 2016. He was born on March 30, 1931 in Cuero, TX, to the late August and Valerie Duerr Holzapfel. Bill was a dairy farmer in his early years. He spent many years as an operator at Texas Eastern. Bill was an avid fisherman and enjoyed going to the Guadalupe River. He also enjoyed playing dominoes with his friends and Diana Guia Cruz watching television. Bill is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alton, Harold and Gene Holzapfel; and son-in-law, William “Bill” Head. Funeral services for Kenneth Dale Howard, 65, of Palacios, were held Nov. 30, 1999, at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hollas Hoffman officiating. Interment was at Midfield Cemetery. Mr. Howard was born Feb. 14, 1934 in Kilgore to Hiram Bowling and Hazel Loy Sharp Howard. He died Nov. 27, 1999 in Victoria. Mr. Howard was a resident of Palacios for the past three years and a former resident of Point Comfort. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US army, and was retired commercial fisherman. He is survived by his wife Gerry Marie Liscum Howard of Palacios, parents Hiram B. and Hazel L. John 5:24 “Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life.” He was born on March 8, 1932 in San Benito, Texas to Luis Huerta, Sr. and Mercedes Jalomo Huerta. Luis graduated from San Benito High School, home of the Mighty Greyhounds, in 1950. He worked at Dow Chemical until he was drafted by the Army in January 1953. Traveling to El Campo to hand pick cotton, he found true love when he stood up in the middle of a cotton field for a brief moment and looked directly into the eyes of a beautiful young lady named Luisa. He married her that year before being shipped off to Korea. Huerta served as Sergeant, Military Police, Section Leader leading 4 Platoons stationed in Pusan, Korea from 1953-1954. Upon returning from Korea in 1955, he attended Texas Southmost College in Brownsville until 1956. He returned to Bay City in 1957 and started working at Felix Petroleum. Huerta had developed a reputation as a hard worker and was offered a job at Alamo Lumber Company. He retired from Alamo Lumber on February 26, 2016, after 48 years of faithful service. Luis lived his life as an honest, hardworking family man and instilled Christian values in his children. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Maria Luisa Mireles Huerta, his father Luis Huerta, Sr., his mother Mercedes Jalomo Huerta, and his brothers Raymundo Huerta, Angel Huerta and infant brother Severo Huerta. He is survived by his children Delia (David) Castillo of Pledger, TX, Diana (Ronnie) Meyers of Wharton, TX, Dolia (Joe) Ramirez of Wharton, TX, Susie Huerta of Bay City, TX, Louise (Jenny) Huerta, III of Sweeny, TX and Mercedes (Ignacio) Hernandez of Wharton, TX; 14 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 26 great-great grandchildren. Maria Luisa Huerta, 83, of Van Vleck, Texas, passed away August 30, 2016. She was born September 12, 1932 in Goliad, TX, to the late Jose Maria and Lucas Sanchez Mireles. Maria worked as a custodian for many years for the Van Vleck Independent School District, before retiring. She was also a long time member of Peace Tabernacle Church in Wharton, Texas. Maria is preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and five brothers. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Luis Huerta Jr.; daughters, Delia Castillo (David), Diana Meyers (Ronnie), Dolia Ramirez (Joe), Susie Huerta and Mercedes Hernandez (Ygnacio); son, Louis Huerta III (Jenny); sister, Irene Estraca; brother, Reynaldo Mireles; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. The family received friends and relatives from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City. A prayer service was held at 5 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Sunday, September 4, 2016, at Peace Tabernacle Church, 1416 N. Alabama Rd., Wharton, Texas. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas. Pallbearers are David Castillo Jr., Joey Ramirez, Fred Cantu Jr., Alex Cantu, Mark Castillo and Vincent Borrego. Honorary pallbearers are Kimberly Castillo, Alison Martinez and Olivia Mendoza. Funeral services for Vernon Edward Hunt Jr., 28, of Midfield will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Palacios the Rev. Howard Harper and the Rev. Scott Edmondson officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. in Midfield Cemetery. Mr. Hunt was born Oct. 10, 1959, in Palacios and died Dec. 17, 1987 at his residence. A 1978 graduate of Palacios High School, he was an oilfield worker. Survivors include his wife, Kristina Hunt of Midfield; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon E. Hunt Sr. of Palacios; a brother, Paul Nenvy Hunt of Palacios; three sisters, Verna Lynn Phillips of Sulphur, Okla., Vickey Lynelle Maxwell of Pasadena and Debbie Sue McKissick of Palacios; a grandmother, Nettie Mae Joines of Bay City; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include Mike Hunter, Paul Hunt, Mike McKissick, Stuart Gayle, Robert Schurtz Jr. and John R. Hunt. Arrangements are with the Jackson County Funeral Service, Edna.
