Cannan Wade Garcia passed away on June 26, 2025. Born on February 12, 1985, in Great Falls, Montana, Cannan was raised in Blessing, Texas, where he grew up and built deep roots. What always stood out about Cannan was his brilliance, fearlessness, and unforgettable presence. He was a true original—bold, unapologetically himself, and never afraid to march to the beat of his own drum. That courage left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Cannan had a lifelong love for education, obtaining a Bachelors and Masters degree from The University of Houston. He built a dedicated career in Radiology, working for several CHI St. Luke’s hospitals in Houston and The Woodlands, Texas. He was known not only for his technical skill but for the compassion and excellence he brought to patient care, something he took great pride in. In the last twelve years of his life, Cannan became known for his unwavering passion for his faith. His discovery of the truth of the Torah, the Sabbath, and the Biblical Holy Days lit a fire in him that never dimmed. He was devoted to studying Scripture and sharing that knowledge with others. His love for God’s name—Yehovah—was profound and contagious. Whether hosting Torah teachers from around the world or gathering friends for Shabbat fellowship, Cannan created a space where truth and community thrived. He loved a good theological debate but never let differing views come between friends. His spirited cry of “Hallelu-YAH!” will be deeply missed. Above all, Cannan loved being a father. His sons, Octavian and Zachariyah, were the absolute light of his life. He approached fatherhood with the same passion and intensity he brought to everything else pouring love, wisdom, and joy into their lives every day. Whether teaching them something new, making them laugh with his signature humor, or guiding them in faith, Cannan’s love for his boys was deep, fierce, and unwavering. Cannan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe Luis Garcia, John Carrillo and Elvira Longoria Carrillo. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Barrow-Garcia, and their two sons, Octavian and Zachariyah Barrow-Garcia. He is also survived by his grandparents, Consuelo and John Resendez; his father, Joe Luis Garcia, Jr; his mother, Rebecca Carrillo; his brother, Steven Shimek and wife Geneva; and his nieces, Adalyn and Alayna; Cannan leaves behind his Uncle John and Aunt Margaret, Aunt Helen, Aunt Rachel, Uncle Ray and Aunt Kat; Uncle James Michael Garcia, Uncle John Henry and Aunt Georgia Garcia, along with numerous cousins—each of whom held a special place in his heart. Though his time with us was far too short, Cannan’s spirit lives on in every life he touched — especially in the hearts of his children, family, and friends who knew the depth of his love. Family and friends will receive visitors beginning at 9:00 am Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am. Karen was born on October 16, 1974, to Cecil and Zelma Lane (Hawk) Rooks and grew up with her brother, Coy Allen Rooks, in Clemville, Texas. Karen was a student at Tidehaven High School, where she distinguished herself academically, achieving a rank of fourth in her graduating class. In addition, she was an accomplished athlete, participating in volleyball, track, and basketball, and earned a selection to compete in softball for the Fast Pitch League in Bay City. After high school, Karen pursued further studies at Victoria Junior College. Upon earning her degree, she began volunteering at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. Her exemplary work ethic and dedication to volunteering did not go unnoticed, leading to a job offer. A new physician, Dr. Liberoni, recognized her achievements and requested her assistance in establishing his new office. Subsequently, she advanced her career by transferring to South Texas Medical in Wharton, now known as Memorial Hermann. At Memorial Hermann, she held the position of supervisor for outpatient medical coding. Despite facing health challenges, she remained resolute in her commitment to work as much as possible. Throughout her life, she consistently accomplished whatever she set her mind to with great success. Karen cherished the time spent with her husband, Don, of 24 years, frequently accompanying her husband to numerous rodeos. If she were not traveling across states for rodeos, she would still be on the road to support her nieces in their karate tournaments, even venturing as far as Mexico. It is indeed true that when one discovers a sister who is not related by blood, it is essential to cherish that bond. Karen found such a sister in Alynna Perez, who stood by her during both joyful and challenging times, as well as in her final days. Her nephew Justin Rooks, who was like a son to her, shared a strong connection with her and provided unwavering support when she needed him the most. Those who will hold her memory dear and feel her absence profoundly include her husband Don Gatson and stepchildren Malik and K’trell, her niece Amber Rooks-Bozka (Mathias Bozka III), along with Sarabeth Green, Railey Green, and Mathias Bozka IV. Additionally, her in-laws J.D. and Wilma Gatson, the late Larry Thomas, and sisters-in-law Zucchini Fraier, Tammetra Vaughn, Jean Gatson, and Yattiska Gatson will also remember her fondly, along with numerous other friends and family members. Karen, 49, of Bay City, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on September 12th after complications from cancer. At the gates of heaven, her father, Cecil Rooks, and her niece, Brianna Rooks, await to greet her as she embarks on her new life of wellness, peace and sweet rest. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Andrelin Brinkley for arranging the memorial, guiding them through difficult days, and composing this obituary. Pastor (Bam) Brinkley is remembered for his kind and healing words during the service, and his support during the many years of her illness. They are also grateful to the First Berean Church members for the food and fellowship after the service.

Jalynn Rene Gomez, age 15, of Sweeny, TX, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on January 14, 2026. She was born on April 15, 2010, in Lake Jackson, and was a cherished daughter, sister, cousin, niece, aunt, and friend. Jalynn was a blessing to those who knew her. She was known for her gentle spirit, loving heart, compassion, smile, & faith. Jalynn loved making Tik Tok’s, playing her Xbox, playing tennis, her time as an SHS Belle, baking and was always ready for her next adventure. Her life reflected love and care for others, even in moments when she quietly carried her own burdens. “Let all that you do be done in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14 Throughout her life, Jalynn faced struggles that were not always visible to those around her. She fought a silent battle with mental health, a reminder that many walk through valleys unseen. In this, we are reminded of God’s Word: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 Though her earthly journey ended too soon, we place our trust in God’s mercy and grace. We find peace in knowing she is now fully restored and at rest in His presence. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.” — Revelation 21:4 “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8 In honoring Jalynn’s life, her family hopes her story encourages awareness, compassion, and understanding surrounding mental health. May her life remind us to extend grace, speak openly, and support one another in love. “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2 Jalynn was preceded in death by her great-grandparents Ernestina and Joe Cabarrubia . Winnie Mauryne Deadrick Grigsby was born on January 25, 1930, in Palacios, Texas, to Lawrence Desoto and Myrtle Shannon Deadrick.The only girl among four brothers who absolutely adored her, she grew up surrounded by affection, protection, and deep family love.
Winnie received Christ at the age of nine,
beginning a lifelong devotion to faith and service that shaped
every season of her life. She later married the love of her
life, Donald Grigsby, and together they raised four children in
Port Lavaca, Texas. Winnie poured her whole heart into creating
a home built on faith, encouragement, and compassion. She
instilled in her children a firm foundation in Christ, supported
their many activities, and modeled a life of service both in
church and in the community. After retirement—and following the restoration of the family homestead—Winnie returned to her beloved hometown of Palacios. These years proved to be some of the sweetest and most fulfilling of her life. She treasured time spent with her brothers, Larry and Clyde, and became an active member of the local senior center, enjoying day trips across Texas. She faithfully attended the West Palacios Church of God of Prophecy, participating in Bible study, seasonal events, and joyfully helping prepare for the Church Mission Breakfast several times a year. A special blessing during this season was the return of her Aunt Dora Lewis to Texas. Together they shared countless adventures—strolling along the bay, attending women’s retreats, state conventions, playing bingo, and taking spontaneous day trips to Victoria, Galveston, and nearby towns. Their companionship filled Winnie’s days with laughter, comfort, and joy. Winnie lived a vibrant life. She was an avid reader, a devoted traveler, and a gifted seamstress who ensured her children were always well dressed for school, church, and special occasions. A talented pianist with an exceptional ear, she was often called upon to accompany singers. After hearing only a few bars of music, she could effortlessly pick up the tune and create beautiful accompaniment. As a devoted member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Winnie lived her faith both publicly and privately. She served faithfully as a clerk, pianist, and volunteer in various ministries and was a spiritual anchor for her children and grandchildren. Winnie was also a wonderful cook who loved preparing special dishes for work functions, church events, and family gatherings. Her German Chocolate Cake was unmatched, and her pound cakes were legendary. She served her community in countless ways—acting as a Cub Scout Den Mother, volunteering with the Sunlight Girls Club, and participating in activities sponsored by her workplaces. Above all, Winnie cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her unconditional love, acceptance, and gentle guidance shaped their lives in immeasurable ways. When her need for support grew, it was her grandchildren and her first great-grandchild who surrounded her with steadfast care—her “cocoon of protected love.” She was an extraordinary woman whose presence lit every room, and her legacy lives on through all those she touched. Winnie is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Grigsby; her son, Courtney Lee Grigsby; her parents, Lawrence De Soto Deadrick and Myrtle Shannon Deadrick; and her brothers Eugene Lawrence Deadrick (and wife Bernice), L.D. Deadrick, Larry Deadrick, and Clyde Deadrick.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children
Dawn Broussard (Robert), Jeri Cook, and Guy Grigsby (Jeana);
grandchildren Shannon Grigsby, Cassye Cook Provost (Gerome), and
Courtney Lee Grigsby (Taylor); great-grandchildren Nicolas
Spenser Grigsby, Dominise Richardson, Brittney Grigsby, and Ryan
Lee Grigsby; great-great-grandchild Draylin Lee Bracy; along
with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
