Dolores “Pat” Gunnels, 82, of Lake
Jackson, Texas passed from this earth on
Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at her home in
Lake Jackson, Texas after a heroic, long
battle with cirrhosis of the liver. Pat was
born June 9, 1935 in Hawkinsville, Texas to
Robert Lee and Myrtle Maxwell. She attended
Bay City High School before having to quit
to help support her parents. She would later
finish her high school education in 1984 by
getting her GED. She moved to the Brazosport
area from Bay City, Texas in the
mid-seventies and to Lake Jackson in 1975.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents
Robert Lee Maxwell and Myrtle Daisy Vaughn,
her husband Jim W Gunnels and her sisters,
Della “Cooter” Smith, Dessie Mae “Jack”
Frick, Zelphia “Sug” Frick, Zella “Dick”
Bohuslar, Myrtle Powell and Sammy Cathey and
her brother Robert Lee Maxwell.
Pat is survived by her sons Michael
Martin, Nick Gunnels and his wife Stacey,
and Chris Gunnels, sister-in-law Lucille
Maxwell; numerous nieces, nephews, other
family members and many caring friends.
Pat was known for her caring nature and
for never meeting a stranger. She loved
teaching Sunday school and volunteering at
Brazoria County Dream Center until long
after her condition would not allow it. She
loved to talk and visit with friends, family
and people she just met, a few minute visit
often turned into an all-day get together.
She always worried about others and put
their needs before her own. As a mother, she
put her children’s needs before her own
needs or her husband’s needs. She loved
spending time with children and had many
great nieces and nephews that she loved and
took the time to be a part of their lives.
Her family would like to express gratitude
to IPH Home Health Care/Hospice especially
Nurse Carol and Anna, Dr. Raj Dalal and his
staff, Oak Village Healthcare and Dr.

4, 2017 at 10:00 am with the service to
follow at 11:00 am at Stroud Funeral Home.
