Earl Grant Dies On Refugio Job
Again our community was startled by
the news of another sudden death of an early citizen.
A phone call from Refugio early
Wednesday morning told of the death of John Earl Grant.
Owing to the impassable condition of
the roads, the oil well drilling crew, of which he was fireman,
were in the habit of leaving their cars on the highway and
walking to the rig. Apparently he felt as well as usual, but on
arriving at work, he fell while talking to his companions, and
passed on to his eternal rest.
The Taylor Bros. ambulance brought
the body to the Palacios Funeral Home, from which the funeral
was conducted by Rev. Geo. F. Gillespie at 3 p. m. Thursday.
Mr. John Earl Grant, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. Grant, was born on a farm near Cambridge, Ill., Nov.
20, 1871. With his parents he moved to a Kansas farm when a
young child.
In November, 1891, he married Ina
Heacock, to which union was born one son, Floyd, living in Alma,
Nebr.; two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Gruber and Mrs. Fern Yeamans,
living in Houston. This union was broken by the death of Mrs.
Grant in April of 1900.
In 1902 he was married to Helen
Elizabeth Graham, to whom were born two daughters, Mrs. Cecil
Elder and Mrs. Genevieve Green of Houston. Mrs. Grant died June
6th, 1927.
Besides the children named he is
survived by his mother, Mrs. Minnie Grant and two sisters, Mrs.
V. D. Parr and Mrs. C. T. Buchanan all of Minden, Nebr., and
eleven grandchildren.
Mr. Grant moved to Palacios in 1910
and engaged in business and in which city he has maintained his
home, tho’ for several years he has been fireman for an oil
drilling crew in the Valley.
In early life he united with the
Presbyterian Church and Odd Fellows Lodge. Mr. Grant had many
friends made by his genial kindly disposition, his upright
business principles and his loyalty to every best interest. He
will be sadly missed by his many associates.
The many friends of the family join
with them in their heartfelt grief and extend to them their
sincere sympathy.
