Curtis Wayne Ellis’s love of life didn’t end with his death. Wayne left us on February 3, 2023, at the age of 88, surrounded by loved ones that will honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest, honoring God, and always remembering to laugh. Wayne was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, on August 29, 1934, to John Henry and Mary Pearl Ellis. When Wayne was four years old, his parents moved the family to Palacios, Texas, and later moved to Blessing, where they put down permanent roots and raised Wayne and his five siblings. In his early years, Wayne joined the army, where he received a sharp-shooter medal and a good-conduct medal. His grandchildren remember a legend about when Wayne met Elvis Presley during boot camp. Allegedly, Elvis gave him his famous peanut butter, marshmallow, and banana sandwich recipe that Wayne would slap together for his “lil monkies” regularly. After the army, Wayne started a 30+ year career driving an eighteen-wheeler for Permian Corporation. Wayne met the love of his life, Zana Rosalea Hanna, at a church in Van, Vleck, Tx, in August of 1964. Sharing their love for God, these two were a match made in Heaven. The two understood the importance of working hard for their family while never taking life too seriously. It only took them one year to know they’d be together forever, and they married on August 17, 1965. Making their home in Blessing, Texas, Wayne & Zana raised their four children. Wayne was a true family man, always putting God and his family first. It was commonplace to see Wayne helping with the dishes after dinner, folding the clothes Zana washed, or building a toy for the children in his life to explore and enjoy. He adored his loving wife & took every opportunity to dote on her, even if sometimes in his own loving, teasing way. Wayne was very active in his church & community, always lending his neighbors a hand whenever needed. If you ask anyone around town to describe Mr. Wayne Ellis, they’d tell you he was one of the hardest-working, altruistic men they had ever met. Wayne & Zana shared a love for hymnal music. Zana would play the tunes on her piano, and the two would belt out their favorite hymns wholeheartedly - Whether at home or in their church choir. After Wayne retired, he began working with his sons, Michael Todd and Laddie, on Laddie Ellis Farm and Ranch. He loved farm life, but even more than that, Wayne absolutely adored working with his sons. In the summers, the boys would bring loads of sweet corn home that they spent long days harvesting. Putting up corn became a decades-long family tradition that only got sweeter with time because it was a tradition he was blessed to share with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Ellis; mother, Mary Pearl Ellis; sister, Johnie Lucille Ellis; and brother, Robert O’Neal Ellis. Wayne is survived by his adoring wife, Zana Rosalea Ellis; son, Johnny Dwayne Ellis; daughter, Paula Rene’ Piwonka; son, Larry Paul “Laddie” Ellis (spouse, Sherri); son, Michael Todd Ellis (spouse, Kim); his brothers, Lloyd & Leonard Ellis, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces & nephews. Pallbearers are Anthony Pounders, Brad Finley, Coy Brannon, Scott Gilbert, Garrett Piwonka, and Kyle Giese. Honorary Pallbearer is Levi Piwonka. Services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Blessing, Texas. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas. A luncheon is to be held immediately after graveside services in the church fellowship hall.

Louise Estep Virginia Louise Estep, 89, of Markham, TX went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, July 26, 2021. Her family fulfilled her wishes to pass away in the comfort of her own home and she did so peacefully in her sleep. She was born on June 12, 1932 to the late Homer and Ottie Hume. She married the love of her life, Albert Kenneth Estep, on her 16th birthday June 12, 1948. He preceded her in death on January 2015. Virginia worked at a tomato canning factory in West Texas in her younger years. She later worked at Madden’s Western Auto in Seadrift, Tx. In about 1974 she started her own home business “The Bird Nest” raising and selling parakeets, love birds and cockatiels. In 1977 she moved to Markham, TX continuing and expanding her business to include larger breed birds. African Greys, Double Yellow-headed Amazons, Blue and Gold Macaws, Scarlet Macaws, Eclectus, and Cockatoos were her passion. She was very proud of her business and it was so successful she shipped her handfed babies out of Houston Hobby airport all around the United States. In February 1976 her first and only grandchild, Pamela was born. She spent every moment she could with her making memories. In 1997 she became a great grandmother and was overjoyed with excitement of having them in her home whenever they wanted. Loved and spoiled is an understatement when it came to her granddaughter and great-grandchildren. She has forever left an imprint in their hearts.
